well, what can i say? it's the ultimate star wars game, probably my favorite game overall, it has action, it has good graphics, excellent control scheme, in conclusion: a marvel.
BUT, there is a BIG problem, at least for me it got stuck yesterday, and i mean STUCK, i left the xbox on for like an hour and nothing happened, but it was really weird, it didn't froze, i was in the middle of a conversation (after getting out of the leviathan, which is what another reader said before) and after carth talked the subtitles disappeared and carth kept moving and the music playing, but that was it, just carth's face moving.
PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME WITH THESE POST A MESSAGE, I LIKE THE GAME SO MUCH THAT I'M DESPERATE!!!!!HELP!!!!!

This game is probably one of the best ever made. From customizable characters to interacting with your environment and overall story line, you can really immerse yourself in the Star Wars universe. While playing the game, you can't help but feel the sheer size of an entire Galaxy at your fingertips. Beautiful cinimatics, excellent plot twists, and the best of all, you can choose your own path. Okay, the best of all is that you can weild two lightsabers and walk into a room and force lighting everybody within 10 feet.

The only drawback is that while it is fun to play on XBox, and originally designed for if I understand things correctly, it's much easier to play on PC, what with the whole mouse thing and all. Plus on PC you can que up moves instead of having to click attack every 1 and a half seconds. It may be turn based combat, but it's still in real time, so it doesn't feel like it at all.

I have to admit I was skeptical of a Star Wars RPG that was strictly turn based, but due to lack of good RPGs on the XBOX I bought it before renting it. Well good thing I did, because this game continues to wow not only myself, but critics as well. While the idea of a turn-based RPG may cause classic (Final Fantasy) RPGers away I bid you to stay. When playing this game you hardly notice the turns, because everything is done in real time, yet you can pause the action and set up all your actions such as heal, attack, defened, etc. With a create-a-hero at the beginning of the game you can play the game with a different character almost every time. It's the standard Star Wars plot minus the big-screen names (Luke, Han, Darth Vader). Good versus Evil, Light vs. Dark, Hero vs. villian, but the best thing is that you can pick any one of those sides to make your character into. How would you like to save the galaxy from the evil, or how bout destroy the galaxy as the new sith leader. This game has you react in such a manner that you can have a different experience every time you play, because your actions affect the game. If you want to be a jerk to one of your crew members don't be surprised if she attacks you or turns to the dark side just to spite you. A very impressive overall display with HDTV graphics and surround sound, I can gurantee that you will become one with your character, feeling emotions (love, hate) and with 50 + hours of gameplay you will have plenty to experience in the best Star Wars game ever.

I got this game two weeks ago and it is awsome. It is also hard and i am only on the second world and will be there for a while. The graphics are really good and so is the music. If you dont like turn based games you wont like this at all but a must for star wars geeks.

finally a star wars rpg iv been waiting a while but my patience has paid of with this gem of a game. players start of in ship thats being attacked by a dreadful sith lord called darth malak as players move through the game they connect with the force and find new characters for there party.kotor has a dynamic story with a giant twist @$%& are revan.the sound is offical star wars orchestra which gives the game an extra ommph. Its very lengthy at about 50 hours first time with all the side quests done. this is the greatest star wars game ever created it leaves jedi academy for nothing this really is another starwars gem

This game looked like it could be good, I wanted it to be as good as everyone says, and the star wars feel was definitely there (which boosted my rating), but there was something really missing in the gameplay of KOTOR. I despised the whole targeting/round combat system as I felt I was merely watching as opposed to playing the critical fights. I understand that the game engine is based on the dice system used in paper and pencil RPGs, but I felt it very quirky as a videogame engine to the point of being detrimental to the game's action. This system detached (instead of engrossed) me from wanting to play more of it.

However, the graphics, sound and music all seemed very well done, but I guess this game was not my cup of whiskey.

This game won't leave you breathless with its pretty visuals or incredibly intuitive controls. It is not that type of game. But let's face it, the oppotunity to run around with a lightsaber that acts and sounds exactly as it does in the movies, is well worth the price of admission into this fantasyland.

RPGs are not for everyone. Big fans of FPS (First Person Shooter) games typically don't enjoy sitting around letting the computer do the actual combat - you, the player, decide your character's actions on screen but the computer actually handles the tasks as you assign them. Nor do they really want to spend lots of time building up a character tweaking this skill and that skill until they have, in their opinion, the ultimate killing machine. You can choose to be male or female, change your facial features, what you're wearing, and, as the game progresses, what color of lightsaber(s) you weild in battle. If you're a fan of Star Wars and not so set in your FPS ways or have been waiting for a decent RPG on the box - this game can provide hours of entertainment.

The graphics are perhaps the most disappointing aspect of the game. The box is capable of so much but the top down style common to gaming RPGs often fail to visually impress. The battles and environments often make up for this lack. Once you achieve Jedi status the battles sound and look so impressive that you may forget how horrible some of the other graphics look. The dialog is pretty straightforward, and while I wouldn't consider it overly corny, it definitely could have been improved. There's some good humor to be found in the dialog if you aren't looking to consider it too seriously.

The paths of good and evil, excuse me, the lightside and darkside are very apparent throughout the game but nothing inexcusable. Choices have to be made as the game progresses and while most of the game is non-linear something has to help progress the game to a finale, an acceptable game limitation in my opinion.

Bioware has been making great D&D licensed RPGs for many years now and they don't really disappoint when working with the venerable Lucasarts. They've learned what works and what doesn't. Character skills/abilities are deep enough to provide some decent variety but not so deep that fleshing out your character takes up 75% of the game.

I certainly wouldn't consider this the best game the Box has to offer, but most likely one the best RPG to found on the Box to date. If nothing else this is a quality Star Wars franchise game worthy of owning.

Wield your lightsaber, fire up the hyperspace drive and choose your path. Welcome to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a game that allows you to choose either the light or dark side of the Force and to become a Jedi along the way.

This game is like playing in your own movie. The action starts 4,000 years before the events of Episode I. You start off as a Republic soldier (or rogue or scout) on a doomed frigate. You have to fight your way off the vessel to escape. From there, you meet up with a number of characters, both good and bad, who will assist you on your quest.

Even if you beat the game once, your gaming experience isn't over. Let's say you beat the game on the light side. Try beating it on the dark side. Character interactions vary based on the choices you make throughout the game. Without spoiling this too much, you may find yourself a little disturbed if you beat the game on the light side, then play it again choosing the dark side.

KOTOR is a compelling, complex RPG, and the best game on the original X Box. Kiss whatever social life you have goodbye for a few days; you'll be playing this game non-stop.

For years the void between computer and dice RPG games has been great, but now we have a game that crosses that void. SWKOTOR is a very well done game that has not only a deep plot driven story line with several characters whose own back stories and personal problems can be explored or exploited for involving side quests. The battle system is one of the the best of all RPGs and is one of the real reasons i say that this game bridges the 'game gap'. In SWKOTOR you will find that you dont really control your character in battle, you just select actions, and that is just what dice RPGs are about, in fact while playing KOTOR, The game system is making diffrent "rolls" to determin random effects that occur during gameplay; These rolls also effect combat as far as damage and accuracy. due to this, THIS GAME IS NOT FOR ALL TYPES OF GAMERS.......so you gamers who get bored taking the back seat and watching something truly beautiful unfold had better just go play some other game.....but for those of you who sit down to play KOTOR, you will find a rollercoaster joyride of drama, action, adventure, supense and twists, not to mention a beauty graphic wise, YOU WILL LOVE THIS GAME, it will become your free time until you beat it-but then youll download the new stuff from XBOX live and play it, and love it.....
TO close my review i must say that this game has one of the best story lines in the Star Wars universe, I would go as far as to say that it is up there with the original 3 movies..

JUST PLAY THE GAME ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This game is beyond words. The environments are massive, you can talk to anyone you see, and there are tons of sidequests! The best part of the game is being able to choose whether your good or evil and that enriches the aready good storyline. Before I played KOTOR I was not an RPG fan but now I'm hooked. The game has a high replayability rating and you can't play the same game twice (unless you want too) thanks to the incredible storyline. All in all... a good game for any gamer period!

This is the best RPG I have played in years. What an incredible game!

I like the variety of characters and interactions. Some of the characters, such as HK-47, the assassin droid, are downright hilarious. The story is certainly better than either of the two new Star Wars movies by a long shot.

There is not only a detailed main storyline, but numerous sidequests as well.

This is more of a classic turnbased combat system, rather than direct, real-time combat. This may disappoint players looking for an action RPG. Nevertheless, combat looks great, and sometimes it's fun just to sit back and watch the battles unfold.

This is one of my favorite games for XBox. I consider it a must-have, especially if you enjoy RPGs.

First off: this game is awesome. Best Star Wars game I've ever played, surpassing even Bounty Hunter, which is saying a lot.

Now, here's the thing that prompted me to write this "review" in the first place. I decided to take a look at some of the less flattering reviews for this game, and what do I find but pages of reviews in which a bunch of [people] neglected to actually rate the game (Number one on the review list, people! Wake up!). What really irked me about this was that a good deal of these no-star reviews were positive, heaping nothing but praise upon this excellent game. Please, prospective reviewers, I beg you, I implore you, RATE THE GAME. Its overall rating is down because of those who neglected to do so.

Yeah, well, anyway, KotOR pwnz j00z. "Savior, conqueror, hero, villain. You are all things, Revan, and yet you are nothing. In the end you belong to neither the light nor the darkness. You will forever stand alone." Best line in the game. Doesn't that line pwnz j00? I thought so.
