This is nominated for Chris's Xbox Game of the Year. It's so coool that you would catch a cold from a stray bullet. It's Halo: The Game of all Xbox Games. I only made it past Level 1. I can't beat level 2. Level 1 is called the Pillar of Autumn. You start in what they call a cryo-tube. You were made by some scienctists and you were made to save the world. 1st you have to do all of this testing stuff. 2nd the enemy break in the upper level room. They kill a scientist up there. After that will run with the scientist to safety. Don't run with him for too long or else you will get injured. Whoops! I got a little carried away there. Anyway it's a great game and you should try it before you buy it. Rated M for Mature.

I first played this at a friend's house and I realized that this is a great game. The graphics are awesome; this is one of the few games in which objects become clearer as you get really close instead of blurry. It also has some great music and sound effects. It is also extremely realistic e.g. if you are in a firefight not only do you see the spent cartages come out of your gun, you also see tem on the ground. This has great game play with really fun levels. The only problem is that it tends to get a little repetitive in some parts. Over all this is a great game. If you have read this much of the review you clearly have some spare time get Halo.

I have to preface my review by saying that my computer of choice is the Macintosh and I am 36 years old. If you wanted to game on the Mac in the 90s, you had to buy the Bungie Marathon and Myth series. Marathon was fantastic, it incorporated great action with strategy and epic story telling and the graphics were pretty good for the time. The multiplayer action was incredibly addictive. I worked for a biotech company where we would have 5 guys playing until midnight a few times a week. Captain Keyes in Halo has a Marathon emblem on his uniform; I thought that was a cool touch added by Bungie. And when Myth came out we did the same thing. Bungie just builds incredibly fun and immersive games.

When I heard Microsoft bought Bungie, I was broken hearted. I was really looking forward to Halo on the Mac. In fact, Jason Jones of Bungie gave the first public peak of Halo at the MacWorld conference.

Well, I was getting sick of consistently having to upgrade my Mac (or purchase a new one) to play the latest games like Unreal. So I broke down and bought the Xbox. Paying [the price] for the Xbox is cheap; I have bought video cards that were more expensive than that.

The first game I bought was Halo and I am still playing it 9 months later. The game is fantastic. The graphics are incredibly detailed. The enemies are intelligent and tough to kill. The soundtrack is excellent. The game is state of the art.

To go from being a foot soldier to actually driving or piloting a vehicle is seamless. I was actually a bit unnerved when a new enemy appeared two thirds of the way through the game. The game has that sort of visceral hit where you actually feel like you are in the world of the Master Chief.

I do have some complaints such as when there are lots of enemies and Marines in a fight the game seems to slow down and it feels like you are doing little or no damage to whom you are shooting at and there always seems to be a lack of ammo hanging around (although you can pick up any weapon you want, I just love using the pistol!). And the game is brutal to play at the Legendary skill level, but I guess that is the point.

If you are a fan of first person shooters, you must get this game.

I really enjoyed this game especially because of the split screen feature. My husband and I are able to play together instead of taking turns. The only fault I have is when you play single player it will save each time you get to a check point. This is about every 5 to 15 min. When you play split screen it only saves every time it has to load a level, which is up to 3 hours of play at once, or you loose the whole level. Hopefully this will be corrected in the next Halo.

There are a couple gripes you'll hear throughout the gaming community about Halo, the killer-app for the new Xbox. Make no mistake about it, people who focus on these gripes know nothing of what true entertainment is. I will pick out these small issues and defend them, because I feel the game is SO superior to most games out there now. You can read all the other user reviews and probably see all the high points and low points, but very rarely are the low points focused on and explained, so that is what I will do.

Yes, it is true that the level design becomes extremely repetative in certain portions of the game. As long as you aren't too fixated on checking every wall and crevice for detail and change, you won't really find yourself saying "This game sucks because this room looks the same as the room before". The AI and combat makes up for this, because of its high quality and quantity, you'll be focused on fighting your way around, not looking at a wall and becoming annoyed. This is called "Halo: Combat Evolved", not "Halo: Level Design Evolved". Focus on the great gameplay, not the walls people.

I've heard control issues with vehicles and the like, which is complete nonsense, since the explaination of how to drive is far more complicated than it really is. To drive any vehicle, it's the same as walking or shooting. Point the crosshair where you want to go and move forward. Just like in real life! Wow! The warthog is incredibly fun to drive and shoot with.

The great points of the game, probably explained in detail by the other 250+ reviews here are the coop mode, which has been severely overlooked by most games. The cooperative modes are the best in my opinion. Why fight against your friend who has better accuracy but slower reactions when you can use your fast reactions with his better accuracy? The AI is magnificent, of course, so the replay value is highly increased just because of how smart and varied the tactics are of your foes. The graphics are incredible, with per-pixel shading used in so many places, along with self-shadowing and tons of reflective lighting effects. Great great game, despite its few and far-between flaws. Buy it if you have an Xbox and like first person shooters or just quality games.

Halo is the avatar of the Xbox system. It is also one of the best games in the history of games. If you don't have this game, buy it now. It's as simple as that. The 30fps as opposed to 60 is not noticable except for the rare occurance in multiplayer when you smash 2 banshees and 2 warthogs together at the same time. And if there is one thing not perfect about this game, it is that the excellent music is not played often enough.

Halo demonstrates an exemplary combination of game play, graphics, and sound. The game offers ltos of gameplay, and also offers replay. The fun part is trying to tackle it from different angles ever time! You will not be disappointed with this game!

When I bought a X-Box in 2001, I wasn't sure what game to buy. The clerk told me about Halo and for once I listened to somebodies advice. This game now is slightly outdated because it's 2004, especially when you compare it to Doom 3 and Call of Duty. However, it is a great game and especially if you play the multiplayer deathmatch or co-op feature. The story line is better than most other Fps and the graphics to this day aren't all that bad at all. If you have a X-Box, you should really own this game. I don't know why other people slam this game but in my opinion it is a good game. Halo 2 will be interesting because of the technological leap that PC's have made since Halo and thus the PC will always be X-Box's ultimate competitor. If your looking for a good Fps on the X-Box, Halo is definitely the game for you. If your looking for a good PC shooter, Call of Duty definitely takes the cake (and it's coming for X-Box).

I really didn't know how good Halo was until I played James Bond AuF. James Bond is a good game but Halo is better in every single aspect. Specifically, I think it's the feel of the weapons as much as anything else. They just feel right in my cyborg's hands. The bullet speed and rate of fire are realistic and still the game is so hard. Credit to the awesome AI which actually knows how to duck, retreat, regruop, recover and then outflank and kill me if I'm nnot careful. For the weapons, there's the zooming pistol, machine gun, shotgun, sniper rifle, and rocket launcher, and standard grenade for the humans. The aliens have some weapons but they're all plasma weapons so they are not as much fun to use. The needle gun is really only good for killing tank sargeants when in multiplayer mode. The best game ever made and the only game I know to let me use my machinegun as a sledgehammer when I run out of bullets in the middle of a firefight.

The game Halo in my opinion was and still is the best game ever created for a game system. It's filled with tons of killer fps (frist-person-shooter) action and is nicely complemented by and amazing story-line. You take control as a character only known as the master cheif, a genetically enhanced cyborg with a virtually indestructable suit of armor. (for more information on the master chief i would recomend reading Halo: The Fall of Reach by Eric S. Nylund. It's a great book filled action and sci fi themes that could put any other sci fi writer to shame. Eric Nylund did a great job on this book and I would recommend buying it also. 5 stars as well!...) As the master chief you can choose between an arsenal of 7 human weapons including a rocket launcher, assault rifle, and shot gun, or 5 alien weapons including a plasma rifle and a gun that shoots explosive needles. Both races also sport grenades. Besides the weopons there are also a variety of vehicles you can use in the game such as a human all-terrain vehicle sporting a 50mm chain-gun or a human tank with a 90mm barral and a 7.62mm armor peircing machine gun. The aliens in this game known as the Covenant also have some intersting transportaion including a one person reconnaissance vehicle that sports 2 plasma connons and a ground assault aircraft that has 2 fuel rod cannons as well as 2 plasma cannons. Besides these vihicles there are many other that you will see but not be able to operate. (Find out about them in the book or in the game what ever u like.) As u play an incredible story unfolds that will be unforgetable, and it even has an unexpected plot twist at the end. But,even with all that I think the best part of the game is the multi-player mode which allows for cooperative play or just playing against friends. But its not just fragging, o no its much more than who can kill who more times, u can play in variety of modes such as king of the hill or capture the flag or a game where u have to have possecion of a ball for a certain amount of time. All are fun and even just that regular fragging style is fun too. In conclusion all i can say is buy this game and buy the book too because they will keep you entertained for a long long time(I've been playing since February) So in conclusion all I can say is you won't regret buying this game and I would suggest playing the game before reading the book, it's better and easier to understand that way.
P.S. if u like the feel and sheer size of computer games better than system games than dont feel sad. Halo is coming out for the pc also. So have fun gamers and buy this game!...

Halo is a must have for your XBOX console. I was primarily an occasional PC gamer, but when I purchased my XBOX, Halo was the first game out of the store. The story is original with excellent gameplay. The game sounds awesome and takes keen advantage of the power of the XBOX. The game is not too difficult, but still provides engrossing and challenging gameplay. Overall, I would have to rate this game 5 stars.

Halo is a great game that I would recommend to anyone. The single player missions are great but the thing that makes Halo shine is the multiplayer. There are a ton of different multiplayer modes to begin with, but you can make your own custom multiplayer game modes. Also, with the system link cable, you can hook 2 xboxes togetherand play with eight players. You can also play 16 player, but I've never done this. It's just so cool to play a 4 on 4 game of capture the flag! Anyway, halo is a must buy for xbox owners. With a great single player and an awesome multiplayer, I can safely say that Halo is the best shooter that I have ever played.
