I have been a gamer my whole life, starting with the Intellivision in the 80s (Burger Time, anyone?). Never before has a game been so addictive and has had me coming back to it when I swore I'd go out and interact with the real world for a while. It took me about 15 hours to complete (I only did 6 side-quests, there are many many more I'm told).
Fable is designed to allow you to be whoever and whatever you want your character to be. You first start off as a child and you grow into an old man as the game progresses. Every move you make changes the way your character turns out. As a result of everything you do you can be evil and make children run from you and villagers fear you, or you can be good and have people clap for you and cheer at you everywhere you go. Also, the way you prefer to do battle will determine your class. If you use your sword a lot you'll end up a warrior; if you use your spells most of the time you may end up a caster; or you can use your bow and become a ranger. You can combine them as well. I beleive the stats menu said I was an "Arcane-warrior" or something to that nature.
The graphics are very detailed. The story is captivating and deep. And the sounds and music are very well done. Despite my giving it 5 stars it does have its flaws. The villagers get annoying very quickly, the game is rather short for an RPG and another 10 to 20 hours more would have been great (I did ignore a lot of quest cards toward the end which may have made it longer, and I didn't do all the demon doors), and there is a small amount of spells and equipment (which is understandable since the game is so short).
After wasting a well spent 15 hours of my life on this game trying to be on the side of good. I think I'll waste another 15 or so and try to be evil next time around. I highly recommend this game to any gamer, whether you like RPGs or not.
FABLE,is the best adventure/rpg game I've played since Lengend of Zelda. Hearing all cry babies out there, complaining the game is too short. Yes, you can probably beat the game in under 13 hours (if you dont have a personal life) but you'll never have the same experience playing it through again. Playing as a good guy,bad guy or something in between, changing your appreance with hair cuts or tatoo's is a cool idea. So, stop reading this and play FABLE loser..
I could not believe how short this game was and how little variety of monsters there were! It took me about two and a half days to beat the game!!! That is with lunch, supper, telephone and snack breaks. The variety of armour and different things to do was poor to say the least. Save some money and rent this game. I keep wondering why this game took so long to build. It should have been called Fable: Act one; the quetion is where are the other three acts that should have been programed in? Watch the price on this game drop quick in the next little while.
Many of the reviews mention that this game did not live up to the hype. From the perspective of someone who's playing the game 3 yrs after its release, I missed all of the hype. That being said I probably rank this game higher than those who bought the hype. Apparently within the hype were a lot of broken promises.
This game shares a few similarities with GTA San Andreas. (hence my title) It offers a large open ended world where you can kill random people. If you choose to kill innocent people, the guards/police will come after you. In both games you can have multiple wives/girlfriends in different cities (both of which give you gifts if you keep them happy).
That's about where the similarities end. You can't steal cars, boats or planes (obviously). In fact there are no modes of transportation (except teleporting). You get so lost in the game that you don't even notice that there isn't a single horse in the entire world. That aspect of Fable is nothing like GTA. The actual game is more comparable to Zelda.
This game has an excellent journey with a very abrupt ending. My biggest complaint with this game is that once you take your final quest the game is over. They should follow the lead of GTA style games, where once you've completed the main story line you can continue to free-roam and complete side quests. After you've worked so hard to get the best weapons, and max out your attributes you should be able to actually use them.
Edit: I played through the game a second time and found out that if you watch the credits at the end (don't skip them) you can continue playing. Also if you make the evil choice at the end of the game you get an awesome weapon after the credits roll.
When people complain about a game being too short (I'm looking at you Gears of War, Bioshock, Halo 3) what they're really saying is, now that the game is over I wish I were still playing it. I consider it to be a compliment.
This game has tons of secrets and plenty of things to do every step of the way. After switching from PS2 to Xbox 360, I'm finding that there are a ton of Xbox exclusive games that offer hours of entertainment! This is only my second RPG (KotOR was my first). I'm not a big fan of turn based fighting where you queue up your next move. Since Fable offered live action fighting this aspect was better than KotOR, but KotOR had a better story line.
The bottom line is; Fable is a deep action adventure RPG where the journey is greater than the destination. This game is great even 3 years after the initial release (maybe even better because you avoid the hype).
I've got an Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine that says some tester killed the mayor and his wife to inherit their things and if you can do that just imagine what else you can do!Oh,and have you seen the screenshots. They're so cool.I dont have a X-BOX but that makes me want to go out and buy one or get the game for my freind so I can at least watch the game.
If you like the halo games then you'll love this game. you can be good or evil. if you're evil than you grow horns. this game is a great i played it at my friends house and i shot a guy in the neck and his head fell off. my friend started kicking. the graphics could be better but this game is much than halo or halo 2.
Fable has reached the point where all RPGs dream of going. It's absolutely the pinnacle of the Adventure criteria. The creators put you in the game, they make it fun, and they make it interesting. Fable is the game that absolutely defines the whole light side/dark side thing. Because no other game concentrates on the subtle, small, important details and leisures quite like Fable does. People will learn to adore you, and people will learn to fear you, you have a life, you're not just some dummy on a string being instructed on exactly what to do.
You hear that? Fable is life. It's adventure. With a hint of unrealism, just to the point to make you eternally amused to never decease until the fat lady sings.
Battle System: 9. It's not guns, it's not shoot'em up blowing their brains out. It's classic swordsplay and acrobatics, blocking, stabbing, leaping, lunging, ducking, dodging, running away, nothing to say except 'die'. Not to mention, you can eat pie. And it's all realistic, hitting someone in the back, the head, the torso, all cause different amounts of damage, there's decapitations if you're lucky. And the game even keeps track of your decapititations, how cool is that? There's archery, shoot someone with and arrow, the further you pull back your arrow, the more damage it does, but the less accurate it is. You see? Realism. Plain, clear and simple, just like the drive-thru guy ordered.
Leisure and life: 9. Flirt with chicks, flirt with guys. (Eww..) Flirt with chickens. Whatever. Flirt with anything with a face. Get a special haircut, facial hair, tatoos, some chicks find them attractive, some scary. Some may think you're Michael Jackson with a sword and get the heck away from you. Hey, that's life, right? One of the first games ever to allow you to get married to any woman, (or man) and actually have sexual intercourse with them. Yep, you heard me, sex. Don't get cought up on the kinkiness boys, it lasts for 5 seconds when the screen goes blank, it's only for crickets and giggles. Buy a house, rent out your house, live in your house, steal from anyone, kill anyone, picklock doors, fish, dig, kick chickens, abuse your wife, whatever you wanna do, you can probably do it in Fable.
Main adventure: 10. Yes, this game is not all just chicken-kicking. There is a plot. Filled with with surprises, cliff-hangers, and ultimate rewards.
Gameplay: 4. Quite possibly the only downside to this game. It's TOO EASY. I completed the game naked and didn't die once. There is no way to change your difficulty. This does, however, make the game much more fun as you don't have to reload and just get lucky in order to defeat an enemy. But in all sincerity, you may very well just whiz your way past this game in mere hours if you put your mind to it.
But then again, that is why I am thankful for all the bonus material in the game, because the actual game itself can go by pretty fast.
It may seem confusing and hard-to-get at first, but all RPGs do, so just stick with it.
Let's get one thing straight- I typically despise RPG's. But this game was different. I...I enjoyed it. For the first time, I began to respect RPG's.
Here's Why:
On the + side:
1. Awesome graphics
Simply Breathtaking. My only problem is, night doesn't seem that dark.
2. Fun and varied gameplay
There's so much to do! Go on a quest, go fishing, or even turn evil as you run through a town, killing everything in sight.
3. Great sound
Both the effects and the music are good in this game.
On the - side:
1. The controls
While they felt okay for this game, they felt a little clunky.
2. The story
Even though the developer promised a varied story, it ends up being the same for every game.
Overall, this is a great game and definitely worth the money you pay for it!
Fable is, simply stated, a great game. But, IMHO, it is not a "groundbraker" as many people defined it.
PROS of the game:
1. Your character will evolve based on your decisions. He will age, show a Halo over his head if he is good, horns if he is evil, grow fat if he eats too much. Scars will cover the body of fighters used to close combat, magic induced wrinkles will wear out the skin of mages.
This, ultimately, links you a lot to your character as you have a vivid image that shows your characters demeanor.
2.Lots of sub quests, and they are VERY cool. Almost better than the ones that are part of the main plot.
3.Vast economy of game, lots of weapons and equipment. Enormous possibility of character personalization.
4.Awesome graphics and fighting engine. Some spells are so well done you'll just want to use them over and over again to see them in action.
CONS
1. This game is sort of a "the sims" meets Kotor. What comes out are lots of emotes, possibility of getting married, having sex, getting drunk, people liking you... etc. I really didn't get too much of a kick out of it. NPC (AI driven non player characters) do not have names, unless they are main characters from the main plot. You can get married, but what you base that decision on is probably just the looks of the maiden. You can rent and live in houses, furnish them, etc... but I couldn't really understand if the effort of putting such features in the game was worth the gameplay boost they should deliver. But I'm not a sims gamer so, this may be a PRO for other gamers.
2. Talking about KOTOR... the game reminds of it. Actually the real time fighting engine is even better than the turn based Kotor one (expecially for those who like more action and less tactics)...BUT... Kotor had an awesome story, which fable lacks. Fable's story is as simple as the name of the videogame.
3. Your character will NEVER say a word. I wen through the game and started thinking he was mute. People will talk to him and you will not have any possibility of interaction. It made me feel I was getting "talked over." Very annorying.
Bottom line:
Overall Fable is a strong game and a MUST BUY for:
1) Rpg lovers
2) Those who loved the Kingdom Hearts and/or Kotor
3) Those who enjoy sims games and would like to see it applied to a fantasy world
Thank you so much for the product. I enjoyed it very much, but most of all thanks for the speedy shipment. It is always nice to receive a purchase in a timely fashion. Thanks again!
This game rocks!! Great graphics!! Interesting play, you can make your character good or evil. Hours of fun!!! Buy this game if you love RPG games!! This game is so much better than the stupid game The Bard's Tale!!! It beats every game for the Xbox hands down!!! Yes, even Halo 2!! You will not be disappointed with this game!!
As being one of the most anticipated role playing game at the electronics convention (the e3), Fable diffently is going to be quite a game. The life of the world is amazing, people do there own things while you are on quites, they react to things you do from the past to the future. They also have a gesture system that allows you to swoon or make people laugh or just be rude! Those are just a couple of them. As far as the battle systems goes i heard it is easy to use. You can use magic or bows and arrows or swords and over 50 other weapons. Its all hack and slash, its not turn based you dont have to wait for a turn. Its like zelda, you can attack when you want too. Another interesting thing about the game is that you can either be evil or good. If your good, people in town will cheer for you and praise you. If your bad, people will hide from you and just fear you. Your apperence changes as well, evil side you grow pale and grow horns and have an evil aura. Good side you have a halo appear over you and you look glowy and good. You also have 3 primary stats which will effect your body. Melee weapons (swords, etc). Will might you a bruting hulk. Ranged attacks (arrows) will make you nimble. Will(magic) will make you look wise and bald. This game is entirely by choice, you do what you want to do!
Okay, there are numerous ways this game is gonna rock. I list my top ten reasons right here.
10. Battle scars and what-not
9. Out of battle life (marraige, offspring, etc.)
8. Appearance change
7. Start out as a kid
6. M-rated
5. Realeases really soon (Sept. 14)
4. Much interaction
3. Rumored to have music from Danny Elfman (Batman, Edward Scissorhands, etc.)
2. Can be good or evil
1. Crazy huge options and many, many ways to end the game
It is basicly like the previous fable just a few more spells and stages but very similar.. For me it was worth the purchase cause i love fable games..
Fable: The Lost Chapters is a flawless masterpiece and a must have for any RPG/Action Adventure loving xbox owner. A game that in my opinion is better than the new Fable 2 on 360
