Last year's Call of Duty Finest Hour was a totally new game, using a similar engine to Medal of Honor on the consoles. It didnt feel like the PC game in any respects really. People who complained then, will now be totally happy. Big Red One not only looks fantastic (near PC graphics), it feels and plays just as great as it's PC brothers. I feel a hint of Medal of Honor European Assault every once and awhile but this game is far more polished and thought out. The storyline is a major draw in, offering some great character moments. I read some of the guys that starred in the HBO mini-series Band of Brothers do some voice work in the game, however I haven't picked up on it quite yet, although I've got some ideas. On thing is for certain...Mark Hammil (star of Big Red One movie from 1981) narrates this epic game and does a very nice job. I recently bought Brothers in Arms Earned in Blood for xbox aswell and if your asking me to make a buying decision for you I'd say...

1. Big Red One is more run and gun, Earned in Blood is tactical.

2. This game is far more family friendly, Earned in Blood ISN'T.

3. Both games offer unique gameplay and are both worth 50 bucks.

If your looking for a rich new experience that has the polish of a great PC game, please do yourself a favor and buy this game. There are at least 5 WWII themed games coming out for the Holidays this year and Big Red One is diffenetly a winner. The A.I. is revolutionary for a console game offering such epic action scenes. The weapons are standard fare in a WWII game, but are more enjoyable than ever, seeming more powerful. Levels are diverse and I was thouroly impressed with each one, the D-Day beach landing is a very special thing for me in this game as it was the recreation of this scene in Medal of Honor Frontline that sucked me into the WWII franchise. Activision and Tyrench's take on the greatest invasion of all time is incredibley intense. And yes I have managed to cruise through the game very fast. The Battle of the Bulge, as well as the early Africa levels are great, as are the Normandy levels (its just Normandy has been used so many times in videogames) The ending levels in Germany are very fun and you feel such a great sense of accomplishment after beating the game, which should take 12 to 14 hours. 10 out of 10. Thanks for reading.

The Call of Duty titles give you the rush of war, heart pounding crazed adrenaline as bullets fly all around you. But to experience this in it's full affect you have to get online. The Xbox live multiplayer action is what sucks you up everytime in endless hours of battles. As to expecting more from this title, the Xbox version to me is great. Obviously from having played the Xbox360 title of Call of Duty it looks and plays even better. But the current version on the Xbox is still one I recommend to anyone who enjoyed the first Call of Duty.

HI I would like to say thank for the promptness of my order and the condition was great, a very fair price too. I say thanks for the memories as my father was in the army in the big red one division he is gone now but when I play the game I think of him thanks again.

So, I have been hearing from people how this isn't like the PC/360 version, it's too linear, blah blah blah. No it's not like those versions. It's a completely different game, for starters. I'm not going to go over in detail the background on the game's storyline, as several other reviewrs have already done so.

This game is a throughouly enjoyable shooter. The graphics are excellent, the weapons are rendered faithfully, and the overall gameplay is excellent.

The one thing keeping this from getting a five star overall rating is the fact that I was able to beat the game in under 10 hours, without using any cheats.

Where this game shines, however, is on XBox Live. That alone is worth the price of the game. There are your standard games, Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, but the one I find I play the most is team Deathmatch. This is closest you can come on the original XBox to actually being in World War II. Now, in three weeks, when my 360 arrives with that version of Call of Duty 2, I'll be there more. One advantage to the orginal XBox Live Call of Duty 2:BRO is that you can have 16 players at once, the 360, only 8. Until you can get a 360, this is one of the best shooters and Live games out there for the XBox

I'm relatively new to the XBox, and found this to be an amazing experience. In a way, it's a game merged with a history lesson. The more I played it, the more respect gained for those who fought the actual battles. Approaching the beach in the landing craft gives one a sense (though nowhere near that of the real experience) of what these guys actually charged into...amazing. This game requires strategy, planning and a lot of attention. Amazing environments and realism. Looking forward to #3.

Thank you, 1st Infantry.

Some reviews have knocked how "easy" this game is and it's brevity. Honestly, I play games for fun and entertainment, not to be overly challenged to the point of frustration. (Real life is frustrating enough, I want games that are fun to play!) If you are looking for a great WWII game that is done well but is done in such as way as to be managable to play, COD 2 is for you. I have the "collectors edition" which comes in a silver case and includes interviews from the real men who served in the Big Red 1 division, etc,....very cool. Highlights include: the sound quality, the sheer variety of missions and weapons used (anti-aircraft guns, panzerschreck, .50 cal, etc., playing with distinct squad-mates who have unique personalities, realistic and relevant intersquad "chatter". I have and enjoy Brothers in Arms but it involves a bit more strategy and planning to do well so I save it for when I have longer stretches of free time to play. If you want more of a run and gun type WWII game that you can pick up and play a mission through from start to finish in about 15 minutes, this is a good game for you. I am a fan of the Medal of Honor series but I think this beats it in the graphics, sound and realism departments easily. As for "replayability"...I anticipate running through the levels again on a higher difficulty level once I finish the game on "easy".

So I played this game the other night and finished it the next day. The campaign itself is pretty varied. You fight in a lot of different places throughout which helps to keep it fresh. In some levels you will be driving a tank around the desert, in another you will be flying around in a B-24 Liberator manning the guns and dropping bombs. You can even call in artillery strikes at some points in the game. There is also a pretty wide range of weapons to use. Unfortunately the game does not nail down the feel of actually shooting the guns. The infantry combat can be pretty weak at times; it just seems to lack that visceral intensity that other Call of Duty games have. The AI in the game is actually pretty bad and makes the shooting even worse. Teammates can't seem to hit anything at all and like to get in the way a lot. They are constantly trying to shoot through walls to hit enemies as well. Overall the teammates are pretty useless besides just being extra targets for the enemy to shoot at. The graphics in the game are good. The fire and smoke effects (which you see a lot of) look pretty good. The characters, weapons, and vehicles look nice and have a decent amount of detail. While the levels are completely linear, they are actually designed pretty well and look good.

Overall the game can be pretty fun at times. Although it's clearly inferior to the original pc game, it's the best Call of Duty game on a current generation console by far. Since the campaign was pretty short and the multiplayer wasn't anything special, I would suggest this as a rental.

If your like me, you saw the medal of honor franchise stagnating, not exactly in decline, but there was little forward movement. Then along came Call of Duty Finest Hour. Wow. Well if you liked Finest Hour but didnt see what else could be done, look no further than Big Red One, which takes gamers into chapters of WW2 history that many people sadly dont know. Beginning in 1942, Two years before D-Day, and thus two years before any previous WW2 video game, this game brings the gamer, with the same squad of characters through the entire European theater, from the First clashes against the Vichy French in Algeria, to clashes with Afrika Korp and Italians in Tunisia. Unlike other games Africa is not merely a small two level affair, BRO gives it the sense of importance it deserves with over a quarter of the game happening there. Then its off to Sicily where you help knock Italy out of the war. I especially enjoyed fighting the Italians for a change, new weapons, vehicles and such. Once you get to France you realize just how tenacious the Germans are, and the game progressivly gets more challanging until you reach Germany itself. Definitely an amazing perspective, and a more realistic one. The average soldier did not, as Medal of Honor would tell you, end up in the OSS blowing up endless secret german or japanese weapons behind enemy lines, they would in fact be fighting inch by inch with their squad for the duration, and thats what stays with you when you finish this game, the sense of how long and hard the war was on the average soldier. Knowing that for the guys who landed in Algeria in 42, the odds were against them living to see the war end in 45

I was able to get my hands on the xbox 360 version of this game at a walmart kiosk for a good 3 hours late at night. INCREADIBLE to say the least, game play was amazing, graphics blew away any PC or console i have seen hands down. Of course it was being show in HD and I felt like i was in the action, the characters were the best pixeled almost like real life. The standard xbox version is good, i own it, but the xbox 360 version which can only be played on the 360 is increadible....It is worth buying the xbox 360 just for this game its that good!!! I can only think the xbox live will be outstanding.....

Worth playing all the way. Storyline and game playing are very good. Best deal on Amazon as 'good as new'; worth the money.

In Call of Duty: Big Red One the combat mechanics are amazingly realistic. Members of your squad are screaming telling you to move to different positions, your gun constantly jars while bombs explode all around you, and don't try to take on all the Germans yourself or you will have a fellow solider standing over you asking for a medic! In Big Red One you not only get to fight as a ground troop, but you get to man tanks, anti-aircraft guns, and be an airplane gunner. The great part is that these aspects of the game are also realistic. Planes explode in different manners, the gun fire sounds excellent, and so on. You will get to know your squad very well too. The story line is great, plus you get to listen to other chit-chat your fellow soldiers have. This game is a for sure buy...but I warn you, it realistic.

It's no secret that the gaming market has always been flooded by WWII FPS's.With other blockbuster series like Medal of Honor and it's more technologically advanced cousins to compete with, can the Big Red One hold it's own? As a matter of fact it can. For those who have entered the series just recently with Call of Duty 4 or 5, Big Red One won't prove to be too strenuous a departure for you in terms of gameplay. Weapons and vehicles handle quite nicely, but the A.I. can sometimes prove less helpful than preferred. The graphics are very well done for a game of this generation and the musical score fits the game perfectly. The Weapon variety is decent and the 13 campaign levels are well designed and filled with breathtaking set pieces and scripted events.Truth be told, The Big Red One has managed to pull off a pretty rough task,it has succeeded in becoming a solid WWII FPS while still dazzeling the crap out you with a great story and stellar gameplay.

This game is awsome. The game has all of the qualities that a gamer can look foward to in a WWII game. There are a lot of weapons to choose from along with great graphics, and many maps. You can actually depend on your teamates in this game. O.K., I admit that they are not the best distance shooters, but they are very good at close combat. For example, there was a time when an American soldier meleed a German to the ground and the American just kept on shooting the German to make sure that he was dead. Your teamates don't die easy and there are some characters that just can't die because they are part of the storyline. Aside from the guns, the grenades are very effective when the Germans are hiding in small corners and you just can't see them. Just pull out the grenade and it will do the rest for you. Well, thats about it. I hope my review came in handy. Remember to buy this game if you don't have it already. You will get more out of the game than what you paid for. I guarantee it.
