This little dandy saves so much time when trying to send messages over XBox Live. Instead of selecting letters one at a time from the on-screen keyboard, you can simply thumb type your message like on a cell phone, only easier.
Great addition to xbox 360 experience. Fits comfortably on back of controller. Takes very little additional battery power. Even has jack in back to apply headset. Not just for chatting, also works in any text box in xbox 360 dashboard or games.
MY HUSBAND LOVES IT AND WAS HAPPY I BOUGHT IT FOR HIM (even though i dont like him playing all the time)
I would buy from Game Zombie again great seller
It's great. Since I text message a lot, this was easy to use. Plugs right in, headphones work great too. Really saves time from typing on the controller.
OK, so I was having kind of a hard time texting while playing, or even answering to ppl that writes me when I'm playing, this little toy puts an end to that, its confortable, it doesn't get in your way while playing, the package includes a headset (wich I didn't notice, so it was a surprise when i recieved it) and 1 month of xbox live GOLD, so it's a good deal.
The shipping was speeeeeedy, today is saturday, ordered with FREE 2-day shipping on Amazon Prime :D on thursday and recieved it today in the afternoon, SWEET.
Very kewl stuff, stop reading this review and buy it........NOW
The 360 chatpad is a much-needed relief from the thumbstick method of typing messages on Xbox Live.
I have larger hands, so leaving it attached to the controller doesn't bother me while I play games. If you have smaller hands or the chat pad bothers you while playing, you can simply detach or leave detached until you need it to type.
Since it takes up the space on the controller normally allocated to the Xbox Live headset, MS has included a new headset that works with the chatpad.
I found it very easy to type with the chatpad, and overall I think it is a must-have accessory for anyone with a friends list!
The keys light up for easy use in the dark, and there is a one-press MSN button for those that want to chat in between gaming sessions. MS has really outdone themselves on this one. The 360 chatpad is an exceptional accessory for less than the price of a new game!
If you like to send text messages over XBLive or wish to use the MSN support, this chatpad is a must. The keyboard has a nice solid feel when you click the buttons. The unit is backlit, letters are east to see. Works very well, you can type fairly fast without an issue. This is especially useful if you have to fill out forms or input settings and things like that. I would have given it 5 stars, but its not yet supported in many games (like in chat lobbies for example). It does work with EA's skate (when you see the virutal sidekick), so thats pretty cool. For the cheap price its going for, its totally worth it. It also comes with an extra headset (that only works with the chatpad) but then you can use the old headset for the 2P controller so it works out. Overall a fun little accessory even just to make your controller looked tricked out.
Hate asking for a game invite and having to record a message? Hate typing in codes one letter at a time with an on-screen keyboard? Hate the onscreen keyboard?
This fixes that. I even like the way the controller fits your hands better with it on.
The QWERTY keyboard is SOOO much better than regular typing for 360 and everytime you have to enter info for a game or chat you thank yourself for buying it. Also, no one every mentions how much better it is for your hands. My hands cramp from curling my fingers around the grips of the controller after a while but with this attached it is a much more comfortable grip.
I bought this for my husband whose on the Xbox 360 alot. he loves to chat with his friends and needed this to type faster. He has no complaints. He said it's a very comfortable and useful keyboard and loves it. He types much faster now instead of using the on screen keyboard.
I bought this keyboard as a gimmick, but ended up depending on it. I hate the software based keyboard, but I put up with it since I don't really type on my 360 except for registrations and wireless setup as I change my network needs. Once in a blue moon I had my messenger contacts type and hated the fact that it took forever to get a message out. I bought the keypad and been happy since, easy to use, keys properly spaced out, and believe or not, comfortable(to the point that I don't even remove it from my controller when I play).
Looks cumbersome,, but it's not.
Really, the only thing that could even be taken as a negative about this product is that it takes a little while to get used to. I now play with it always connected, because I have gotten used to it. It is very light weight. And also, it is a great deal. It comes with a headset (which costs $15-20 individually) and the keypad (which would only come to be about $5-$10).
I really enjoy, so if you think you are going to be sending plenty of messages and chatting on messenger, then this is a must have.
I'd longed for a thumbboard even before I heard this product was in the works. Using the gamepad to enter text is a serious drag, especially for entering prepaid codes. Once MSN Messenger support was added to Xbox Live, I almost considered plugging in a USB keyboard. But there's just something annoying about switching between a gamepad and a keyboard.
The Chatpad does exactly what it's meant to do. If you've used a Sidekick before, the feel of the keyboard should be immediately familiar but with more of a click. It's easy to use, lets you type fairly fast, and has some nice little features, like a backlight and a dedicated Messenger button, which when pressed will pause the game and pull up a small overlay box of your current Messenger conversation.
The included headset seems like a slight improvement over the original and includes the volume/mute control in the middle of the cord. Because of the change in the plug from the original, you can also use the headset with a phone, if you really want.
The only complaints I have:
* The backspace key is placed in a pretty awful position, to the right of the space bar. That takes some getting used to.
* Occasionally, you might type too fast, and rather than a delay before your typing shows up, characters are simply dropped. Hopefully, that's just a software bug that will be fixed soon.
Overall, this is a good buy if you don't like using a USB keyboard and especially if you are a Messenger user.
I really do like having this on my controller so I can type properly to people. It really isn't in the way and I no longer have to tediously and slowly type on the screen. It's a bit hard to get on but it snaps right into place. It also has a hole so you can still plug in the headset.
I don't use this for chatting at all, but I've found this to be an excellent addition to my other 360 accesories for 1 reason. I have a lot of music stored on my 360 and it's a real pain going through and naming everything using the controller alone. The chatpad makes this tedious process a breeze in comparision. It comes with a headset which I'll use to communicate on live instead of messing with the text messenger. Another thing that's probably been mentioned in the other reviews, it's very well designed and contrary to what I was anticipating before using this thing, it's almost unoticable when connected to the controller, it doesn't add enough weight to notice and it's still comfortable to hold while gaming. Personally I think it looks pretty cool too. Not a must have accesory, but far from useless and unecessary.
