We bought this Xbox 360 Charge Base for our teenage son, who, like most, games A LOT, including massive Xbox-Live gaming. We were constantly going through batteries. Not since this arrived! It really does work exactly as it says it will...Hmmm...What a concept, eh? And a very welcomed one! He just drops them easily into an open slot in the charging base, and, voila! They are perfectly charged. Consistently. They've held their long charges as described, and this is after well over a year ago(so long i can't remember exactly, even Amazon doesn't show me anymore, as they will usually display at the top of the screen on the product's page, the date you last purchased that item. I guess after awhile they don't)? Not sure, but it didn't this time, so i couldn't tell you exactly when we purchased this awesome unit, but I did think it was important to review it after it working well for so long; to share with you, our experience at least, w/its durability and how it seems to be holding up so well over time. One more plus is that it's also a good little storage place to keep the chargers neatly w/out taking up much space at all. I HIGHLY recommend this GR8 product!!!
This product is just awesome. First off it's small it don't need a lot of space so you could put it just about anywhere. It charges quickly around 4hrs for both. Plus for the price you can't beat it, it does everything it suppose too.
I had purchased some other products such as USB cable "Charge as you play", and a USB cable and rechargeable batteries, but nothing comes close to this product. I WISH I had known about this product before. I would never have bought the other stuff. This rechargeable station is small and light, and perfect for storing you XBOX 360 wireless controllers. It charges SUPER fast, and the battery life is REALLY long. What I really like is the fact that it turns itself off when its done charging a big plus on saving electricity. It has its own A/C power cord so theres no strain on the XBOX. I would highly recommend the product to all those gamers out there that love XBOX live and spend lots of time using their Wireless controllers. The only down side is you can't charge the batteries by them self. Otherwise this is a great product. I give this item 9 out of 10.
My friend owned of these for 2 years before I finally got an X-Box 360...and this was at the top of my "things to get" along with another controller.
The charge base is a very simple and easy to use product. It charges your controllers, it does it quickly and the charges last for a long time (I can do casual gaming for about 10 days before I have to charge my controller. Plug it in before sleep, wake up with a fully charged controller).
There's a lot of reviews that hate it that Nyko's charge base has it's own battery packs and that those battery packs aren't supported by any other companies chargers. I'm totally okay with this, as I don't plan on buying anymore charge bases so compatibility isn't an issue at all for me. With my friend and I living together, we've got 2 of these things and 4 controllers so we know that our controllers will charge fast, hold the charge and be ready to go quickly. No need to buy an additional station.
Pros:
Charges quickly
Red/Green light tells you when it's charging and when charging is finished. Green light turns off after a few minutes.
Two batter packs, one for each charger spot. No need to buy additional accessories (except a second controller if you don't have one)
Battery packs last a long time... 2 years and counting on one, 3 months and counting on the other
Cons:
not compatible with any other charging station (no big deal, as no other charging station is compatible with this one anyway)
Pros outweigh the cons and this product is great. If you're looking for a charging station, you've found the right one. Buy it!
Addition to my sons gaming system for Christmas and it continues to work well, no problems and no surprises.
This is so much better than the Microsoft one, don't bother with the crappy Quick Charge Kit!!
Awesomeness (charge base)
-Nice place to put your controllers when not in use, always charged!
-never have to take out the batteries...but if you're at a friends house and you bring your controllers for whatever reason, they can be charged by the Microsoft kit, so you don't have to lug around the charge base if you don't want to
-LED indicators for when the charge is complete and charging
-Battery life is really good, the Microsoft batteries aren't any better, if they are, it's such a small difference. These batteries have lasted me weekend Halo parties while Microsoft batteries have needed to be charged. (My batteries were brand new and I don't know how old the other batteries were so this isn't necessarily a good benchmark) but regardless, the batteries are high quality.
-Charges two batteries, same as the Micro$oft
-ridiculously fast charging, I've gone from completely depleted battery to full charge within 1.5 - 2 hours. Even if you don't charge fully, a 30 min quick charge will give you plenty of juice for a couple hours.
Crapness (Microsoft)
-no place to put the controller
-take out the batters which is just annoying and pointless
-great battery life, but no better than the Nyko ones
-more expensive!!!!!!
-slower charging than this.
In conclusion, this charge base is FAR superior than the Microsoft charging...stand thingy.
I really enjoy this charge base. Many of it's pro's have been already discussed.
Pros:
-You don't have to take the batteries out, obviously.
-LED's provide notification for charging / charged. Eventually turn off when charged.
-Provides a stable home for your controllers so they're not sitting all over the room.
Con's:
-As discussed, you can't charge the controllers with the microphone attached. This is HARDLY a con. Just unplug the microphone. You have to take into consideration that if this unit was designed to keep the microphones attached to the controllers it would probably be an overall larger unit.
I picked one of these up on the advice my friend gave me. All I have to say is WOW. Before, I had been relying on recharging double A batteries. They worked fine at first, but started acting up in the controllers, taking some time after being pulled out until the controllers got used to them. They would turn off constantly, sometimes in mid-game which was becoming unacceptable for online stuff like L4D2. All I can say is forget that these are even third party. There's nothing negative about them. Sure, had Microsoft made them, they might look a little cooler, but the price would likely be close to twice as much. They work like a charm and hold a better charge than any of my batteries did before hand.
The only negative thing I can really think of is that the light on them, which is a pretty bright. Enough that it illuminated my ceiling tiles. If you have them in your bedroom and charge them before you go to sleep, this might be a problem for you until the lights go off, which shouldn't be that long unless they're totally dead. Even with that, I still give them the five star rating. The charge is great and the ease of the docking station beats wasting cash on normal batteries, fumbling around with rechargables or even Microsoft's own Play & Charge Kit. The double dock is great as well. If you have an extra controller, even if you single player most of the time, it's really nice to have. If one does die, you have a backup ready to go while you charge the other.
My own piece of advice is that certain brick & mortar stores tend to put these on sale every so often for twenty bucks, so you may want to pick them up then and save the ten. Still, I think the asking price is a great deal for this product. Also, you'll need two of these if you use want to charge four controller at once.
Bottom line, with a close to five star rating on this product, believe the hype.
If your sick of buying more and more AA batteries than the Xbox 360 Charge base is exactly what you are looking for to help you out. After your done playing video games just put the controllers right on the Charger and the next time you go to play you will have fully charged controllers. The most annoying this is during the middle of a game your controllers shut off on you and you have to go pull batteries out of the TV controller or find them under the couch. Overall this product is great and has given me no problems what so ever. Hopefully this helps out anyone looking to buy this Xbox 360 Charge Base
I have used this charge base for over a month now and I am extremely pleased. Fast charging time, just as it states in the product description. They last longer than my longest gaming sessions go, which can be between 6 and 7 hours. Great value for the price. Also makes your gaming area look more sophisticated as the controllers are docked with the charging lights on.
I was looking for an easier way to charge my 360 controlers, but I got so much more than I paid for. Just the fact that the base come with 2 batteries makes it worth it. Also, each chargeing station glows with a bright red LED when the battery is charging and a bright green LED when its done. You have to leave the battery in the 360 during the charge, or the contacts wont hold down, but its not a big deal.
So after doing a lot of homework on various play and charge/battery kits, I decided to give this one a shot. Sure glad I did, because it's been fantastic. The charging base looks great, keeps controllers orderly, charges em' quickly and the battery life is great. If you're looking for the best charging kit out there, this one is it. Well worth the price!
I have looked at the other charger dock by microsoft and when adding the other rechargeable battery this is actualy cheeper and I believe better. The controllers charge quickly, only two hours a piece if completely dead. The battery life is great also. The dock is very convenient.
I was not satisfied with the look or performance of another Nyko battery charger which you have likely seen in every single store - the one where you pop in two batteries etc. It didn't fully charge anything and eventually just stopped working.
This product is wonderful! It charges VERY fast and the batteries seem to have a longer life. I have yet to have a low battery during my marathon gaming sessions. It also keeps things organized, which has been an issue for me in the past with cables and batteries getting scattered.
The charging station encourages orginization and I wish had spent the money on this thing a long time ago. Once you get in the habit of returning the controller to the station after you're done tearing it up on XBL you're be throwing any and charging related items in the trash.
I even bought one for a friend at Xmas. He was still using the USB charging cord or batteries. It was a wreck around his TV! With this product that issue has been eliminated.
Buying this product is on absolute must for anyone with two controllers. It's an investment in my opinion and well worth every penny.
I read a few one star reviews on this product and would like to comment:
- One person stated to just use the MS hardware. That's fine for some, if you enjoy a mess of cables and short battery life. There was market demand, by adult console owners, for a space saving and organized approach to the gaming setup. NYKO has exceeded any expectation I could have had.
- Another stated incompatiblity with other batteries. The station is made for two controllers to dock and charge without the mess of wires. It is a space saver. When you have a place of your own you'll understand. Further - it comes with 2 long life batteries. Made for the station. You're not having to incur extra cost. That's voluntary, no one forced that upon you. If you have 4 controllers invest in another station.
- Long and short of it - if you're an adult, in your own place, and are a gamer then this a "no-brainer" purchase. Orginization is something I didn't firmly grasp until living with my fiance.
If you have an XBox 360 and wireless controllers then this is something I HIGHLY recommend. Battery packs fit perfect into the controller, and the charger holds the controller very nicely (I would almost buy it just to hold the wireless controlles!) :)
