being a big ghostbusters fan when i saw this game i had to get it. overall the game is what you would expect from a movie. a few glitches here and there(couldnt throw my trap down, ghosts getting stuck in walls) if you get this game get the xbox 360 or PS3 version for the official game (PC game doesnt have multiplayer), the DS plays differently with sandbox style missions (like the original nintendo game) and over head camera style camera similar to diablo 2.
Im a big Ghostbusters fan , so my review is a little biased....But Its been several months and im still playing the game online...Since the price drop of the game, there are alot of new players online...Game play is great, the graphics is awesome! It really feels like you have a proton pack at your disposal!
If you're a Ghostbusters fan, this game is a must. If you've watched the first movie more than three times and would watch it again, then you should buy the game, no more reading necessary. If you're just a fan of video games, this game does something that I would have once thought impossible. It creates a feel that is something akin to the lovechild between a first-person-shooter and a fishing game and makes it feel perfectly natural. That alone should interest you enough to give the game a chance. It is short and the voice acting is at times sub-quality of what you'd expect out of the talent backing the game, but still well worth playing and better than 90% of the voice acting in the gaming world. Take a chance on this one.
First and foremost, let me tell you about the game itself. It is fun, you get the feeling this could have easily been a movie. You are a new recruit, at the station, a quick walkthrough/tutorial shows you the basics of the game and in a couple of minutes, you are ready to bust some ghosts. The mechanics of the game are excellent, some control issues are there, specially when running, but after a while, it becomes easier. The game, like I said before could've been a movie, and this gives it a extra notch of reality, specially with the real actors doing the voice, which will bring back memories and give you a bit of nostalgia. If you are a true fan, get this game, you won't be disappointed.
Now, about the Slimer Edition from Amazon, IT IS WORTH THE MONEY if you are a true fan of the series. The Slimer sculpture is HUGE and amazingly detailed and no cheap materials were used.
The Key chain I must say, is kinda of useless. Amazon claims it lights up and sounds, but there's no lights on it, only the siren.
The skins are not meant for either the 360 or PS3, THEY ARE NOT CONSOLE SKINS, although you could stick them to your console. They are basically bubble stickers you can attach to whatever you want, don't get me wrong though, they do not feel cheap or look bad, they are accurate in detail and they are definitely something you can't find anywhere else, very nice indeed.
All in all, the game is a must have for true fans. The Slimer figure/sculpture makes the special edition a must have, it if wasn't so detailed and so well built, I would not recommend it, but it is, so buy if you can.
I gave 4 out of 5 stars only because of the key chain not being what amazon claims it is.
Nothing much can let a guy down like me when I get a game in which I get to be a ghostbuster. The effects in the game are great! The skin textures, hair, and clothes all done very well! And the best part is that the proton packs are just like the movie with more new weapons to boot.
Granted it can be a pain to catch a ghost, but heck its part of the challenge.
This game is ghostbusters meets Doom 3. In fact I think this game does better then Doom 3 or most games when it comes to the gaming graphics.
The fact that it's recommended to have 4gb memory, intel Core 2duo or better and 512 mb of video memory tells me that this game and others are moving up to the next level of gaming.
The storyline also kept me interested, I kept playing this for hours on end on my PC...so i can imagine those who have this on 360 might get hooked, especially in multiplayer mode.
Very enjoyable game!
Great game package at a great price! We are Ghostbusters fans and couldn't be happier with this product package!
I ordered the special/collectors edition of Ghostbusters a few weeks ago when it was a daily video game deal. The Slimer statue is very impressive and was designed by the person who designed Slimer for the movies (Google Amazon Slimer for details). Thus this statue is not just cheap plastic junk. The details on it are very well done -- teeth, fingernails, bumps. The designer shows you what he intended Slimer to look like. It is about 10 inches high. The car is cute and the puffy stickers okay. Basically, try to determine what you would spend for the statue and add that to the basic game price. I separately ordered the Stay-Puft bank -- that would have been a nice addition to this set.
Compare this to the Batman CE, which has a cheap plastic batarang. All CE are not the same; I think Ghostbusters has one of the better ones.
Let's face it, nearly all movie based games suck. In the past, only a couple gems have been able to slip through. Spider-man 2 for Xbox and PS2...and Gamecube. And Chronicles of Riddick for xbox and PC.
This is one of those games. Terminal Reality spent alot of time working on this. And they where obviously very proud of how it was going, at every turn of development they let the "scene" know what was going on, showed off screen shots, and was more than happy to talk about the game in interviews and the likes.
I won't get into the summary of the game.. but I'll talk about everything else.
The graphics are amazing. all the little details pop, the physics are impressive and at times, it can actually be a little creepy in the dark. Sound is phenomenal the proton packs and traps sound just the way there suppose to, all the explosions, ghosts taunting you, and for the most part, the voice work is good too. honestly though. Bill Murray sounds bored, or like he's to goo to be doing a voice over for a game.. I dunno, I didn't like Murrays work in this.
This game was also written by the 2 guys who wrote the movies. (Dan Akyroyd and Harold Ramis.) So, you would think the story is top notch!.. Well, it's OK, but no where near what I was hoping for. The ending kindof falls out too.
All in all though, this is a great game, let alone a great Movie based game.
EXTRA NOTE: The multiplayer aspects are all messed up.. PS3 version and Xbox360 version ONLY have online multiplayer. Don't get me wrong, it's fun!. But there is NO splitscreen.
on the other hand. The Wii gets Splitscreen, but NO online multiplayer. and for anyone thinking about the PC version... think again. It doesn't have ANY multiplayer AT ALL!.
The game is a lot of fun and really adds to the first two movies. The gameplay is fun and the storyline is entertaining. Would buy it again.
The Slimer statue is sweet! Defiantly worth the Slimer edition!
Well there's nothing about slimer edition only the contents , i was hoping the slimer game cover as pictured (-A) big turn down for me. Well Amazon.com next time picture the actual item, damn it!!.....
This is a review of the Amazon.com exclusive Slimer Edition, not the game itself.
First of all, I was a little disappointed with the packaging. There is no special packaging to speak of. Instead, everything arrives in a plain, unmarked box. You would never know what was in it, if it weren't for the shipping label on the side. It looks like this is the exact box in which the set was shipped from the manufacturer to Amazon. Inside, there is an unmarked white box with the Slimer statue in it, the keychain, the puffy sticker sheet, and the game. It is just a normal copy of the game, sealed, with no special packaging. Check out the customer images, as I'll be putting up pics of the set (UPDATE: for some reason my pics won't show up, so you won't be able to find them unless Amazon gets the problem resolved). I see that Amazon is now offering a digital download of the Amazon.com Exclusive Slimer Edition Box Art. I didn't originally get this, but I e-mailed Amazon and they gave me a link to download it. It is just a PDF of special Amazon.com cover art, which you can print and slip into your game case, to make the game seem like a "special" edition. Now, on to the items.
Exclusive Ghostbusters Gamer Graffix Skins: Well, I'm not sure what makes these "skins". They are just a set of "puffy" stickers. You know, those stickers that are slightly raised and feel "puffy." When viewing Amazon's pictures, the picture that shows the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, Slimer, and the logo on a black background, is the sticker set. Each one of the images is a separate sticker.
Ecto1 Key Chain: This is sort of neat, but as stated by other reviewers, it DOES NOT light up. It just makes a noise. I was hoping it would play the theme song, or something, but instead it just makes the car's siren noise. So, the car itself is nice looking, but the noise is nothing special.
Slimer Bust: This makes the set, I'd say. The statue doesn't look all that great in the pictures, but it's actually nice in person. It is a pretty good size, with a nice, heavy base. All that holds the Slimer statue in place is a short pin, so the base needs to be pretty heavy to make sure it doesn't tip over. The statue is nicely detailed and would make for a good display item. According to the Certificate of Authenticity, only 6500 of these were made, though neither the statue nor the certificate are numbered. The statue includes a brochure for the makers of the statue, with a link to their website (search for their company, Solid Thought Corporation). You can check out their site and see whatever else they might be working on. It looks like they even designed a special box for the Slimer statue (you can find images of it in their blog), but for some reason it wasn't used. Too bad, since it looks nice.
I would say that the set is not worth the full $90. While the extras are nice, they're not THAT nice. If you can get it a bit cheaper, though, it's definitely worth it. I got it for $50 on sale. The extras are definitely better than those you get with other games (the Slimer statue is pretty cool), but they're also asking for a premium price.
So overall the game is good. I'm about 4 hours into it and have enjoyed the levels. There is some great variety and the actual ghost trapping mechanics are fun. Fans of the movies and Tv series will be right at home.
The Slimer Edition Extras are nice. The Ecto 1 keychain has a replaceable battery and the car makes the Ecto1 siren sound when you press a button on top. There are no lights on the car, contrary to Amazon's description. The stickers are from gamergraffix, but instead of being a console wrap like they sell on their website, the Slimer edition has 4 removable stickers that you can stick on things. I haven't found a good use for them yet, but they might go good on something like a 3 ring binder.
The big win is the Slimer sculpture. This thing is really nice. Slimer is separate from the stand and he has a peg in his hand that connects him to the logo. He does not glow in the dark but he does look nice under a blacklight.
I have reviewed the game and think it is alright. Basically, fans of the original movies and cartoon series will love this title while gamers unfamiliar with the source material will probably shy away from this in favor of better games (such as Gears Of War 2). Good graphics, great sound, and repetitive gameplay make it an OK game overall that is held together by a great story. 5 out of 5 stars for past Ghostbusters fans and 3 out of 5 stars for gamers that aren't Ghostbusters fans. One thing I didn't mention in my original game review was just how fun the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man level was. I feel like it was what should have been in the original movie.
The Slimer edition is really something that Ghostbusters fans should purchase. The ECTO-1 keychain is alright, I will probably never use it. The same goes for the puffy plastic stickers. However, the Slimer plastic sculpture is great. It retains the look of Slimer form the first movie with some slight modifications. I was disappointed to find out that it didn't actually glow (the pictures that Amazon use make it look like Slimer actually glows, as if batteries are inserted into the Ghostbusters sign) but that is something that is minor. The inclusion of Slimer bumps up my score to a total of 4 our of 5 stars. It really enhanced the experience and is something that Ghostbuster fans should have. I just wish that Amazon also would have given us a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man option as he is my absolute favorite ghost (actually a form of Gozer) from the movies and series (although the Boogieman from the cartoon series was pretty interesting).
Again, I only recommend this purchase for Ghostbusters fans as it is rather expensive but I do think that it is well worth the price.
