I've played this for over 50 hours now, and I can confidently say it's the best rpg i've yet to play on xbox. The character customization is great, and the sheer amount of content is ridiculous. That being said, i found that the way enemies level up with you is a little frustrating. It feels like you're never making any progress. Anyways, a great game that's definitely worth your money.
This game is one of the best games ive ever played hours upon hours of awsome adventure and dicovery.
I was a long-time fan of Morrowind - and was completely unwilling at first to buy this continuation of the Elder Scrolls series - but my boyfriend made me - and I couldn't be more happy!
First off, I just want to say - it's BEAUTIFUL!
Secondly, I'm not one for 'following the rules.' I enjoy games where I can do whatever I want [within reason of course] and this game satisfies that need. I don't even have to do anything in particular REALLY. You can just run around and kill people because you like their outfit - granted you have to take care of the consequences of doing so, but it's fun just the same.
Lastly, the ACTUAL game - where as if I were to actually play it as intended - has a really great story line and fits together nicely. It's very enjoyable and recommended once you get the initial 'messing around' out of your system.
I realize this isn't the BEST review, but I just wanted to say how AMAZINGLY AWESOME AND SUPER TONS OF FUN this game is.
This is the best RPG ever. You will never get bored and always have quests to do. All i can say it is some of the best money I have ever spent.
This game was fun but its one of those games that I beat got easier gamer score and I don't really care about playing it ever again, but I might change my mind its still a great game.
This is by far one of the best games I have ever played! The Game of the Year Edition was well worth the money.
Bought this game for my Grandson - He loves it...plays it non-stop. It was a wonderful buy for the money....Judi
theres something im wondering.... WHY IS STANDARD XBOX 360 OBLIVION 84 DOLLARS? i think they messed up on the price or something
I absolutely LOVE this game. I have played it for close to 3 years and still have not completed all the quests and side-stories for this game. The depth of the world is amazing. I highly recommend it for anyone who likes RPG games that are not the standard cut-n-paste variety.
I purchased this game just last month and knew priorly that I enjoyed obilivion but the GOTY edition is MUCH better! The extended game play and extra missions and armor add much more game play to the already 60 hr+ game. Looking to kill a bunch of time here you go an extremely long yet interesting game!
Great deal for the money. Has well over 200 hours of gameplay, I highly recommend this to any RPG fan.
This game pisses me off because it's obviously high regarded and loved by all, yet I cant find out why. Gamespot gave it a 9.5. I can't seem to figure out what I'm missing. Just sheer size, mass and freedom of a game does not make it fun to play (to me). You will walk around this huge world and encounter only a handful of enemies, all very weak. The enemies difficulties do not seem to change depending on where you are on the map either. You can investigate caves, but there are only a few weak enemies in them, very little treasure, and nothing exciting happens, ever! The battle controls are clunky, he seems to swing the sword so slow and delayed. You can heal but it doesn't seem to do anything. And gaining experience depends on using the skills that you attribute in the beginning of the game, not fighting enemies like traditional RPG's. Yes you can steal and virtual do anything you want, but that gets old after a while. The fact that you can travel from virtually any point in the map automatically, takes away from the game big time, traveling is a huge part of RPG's for me. Also, If the action gets too tough for you just go into the menu and slide the difficulty meter to easy, WTF is that?!?
Having played about 20 hours, it just wasn't fun for me (needless to say). I am not a deviant, usually when games have such ridiculously positive ratings like this one, I end up loving them like everyone else, which is why I'm so vexed! I love the FF series, exploring caves, fighting monsters, buying and selling weapons and armor, which is all in this game, although a huge problem for me is that it lacks incentive.
The realism, the open world, the real time effects, the graphics are beautiful. The quests are great and there are so many of them that this game has infinate replay value, I could beat this game with every class and still love it. This is like the amazing Baulders Gate and Icewind games but on a whole new even more realistic level with infinate possabilites. I could just walk threw the woods in this game for hours a look at the lush enviroments because it's so breathtaking and real looking. Game play is great, the classes, character building and multi-classing as well as naming your own class and created weapons etc is great and adds that much more realism to this great game. I will be playing this game for a long long time, I have haulted playing GOW, Dark Messiah, Quake Wars, Manhunt, WWE, Viking and many other recently bought titles to play and explore this wonderful game. The even better thing is with this version of the game you get the two add ons as well for even more gaming which goes deeper into this magical world. I hope we get more of these amazing games, we need a Forgotten Realms game like this one an Icewind Dale with create your own party. The open world concept is amazing, real time, and real encounters with open enviroments. I never thought the writings of R.A. Salvadore or J.R. Tolkien would ever come to life better than Baulders Gate 1/2 or Icewind Dale 1/2 but Elder Scrolls Obilivion surpasses them all by miles. Best game ever made from an fantasy RPG standpoint. This gets better as you play it, and with each class, multi-class or created class of character there are whole news avenues to explore. I will play this for years to come. Multi-player in this would have been amazing too.
After hearing a lot of great things about Oblivion and playing Morrowind in the past, I had high hopes for this next-gen sequel. I have been playing the game for about 20 hours so far and although it has been a lot of fun, there are a ton of flaws that really hinder the enjoyment of this game.
For example, the movement system is the same as Morrowind's. There is no improvement there, which means that you still get stuck on a wall or "float" over the land when your guy should be standing. The latter mostly happens coming out of water, or when walking on a mountainside which honestly should have been refined. When you actually view the third-person view, it looks like your guy is "floating" over the land. There is no realness to your character's movement. In fact, from the start of the game, you can pretty much jump as high as an NPC's head. I'm not against being able to jump high. I'm just saying, the movement system is unrefined and feels very last-last-gen.
The game has crashed for me about 4 times so far during a load scene, and once during the regular game. The music just stops and the system becomes unresponsive. This is a brand new Xbox360 Elite I bought in September and I fear for the damage this game could be causing to the system. I have installed the expansions and the game itself to the hard drive with this GOTY package.
Something particularly annoying is the sneaking system. You can be hidden while sneaking and pickpocket, and magically every single person in town is instantly aware of your actions. A guard walks in and yells at you, and then you run outside and the whole town is after you. A majority of the realism flaws of Oblivion lie in the characters' apparent telepathic abilities. It just doesn't happen this way.
A funny example is a quest for the Dark Brotherhood where you're sent to assassinate the other people in the house. Whenever you kill a person, the other people instantly know that it has been done with their dialogue, but they don't react to you doing it. This is extremely odd. When I was down to the last person, I spoke to him and he was like "Well I know I am no murderer, and there are only the 2 of us left, so that means--" and then I stabbed him with the Sufferthorn causing his corpse to fly into the ceiling and fall upon the corpse of a previous victim. Yeah, he was sleeping in a bed like 3 feet away. This was extremely funny but in all honesty, the game should have been tweaked a bit more to prevent this stuff.
I probably spent the last 10 hours as a Vampire, struggling to regain mortality... It took a couple hours to find all the ingredients and parts so that the woman would make the cure. The Vampire system was well done, quite annoying though. It shows the same story popups after you sleep all the time, and that can get repetitive.
The AI is probably some of the worst I have seen in an RPG in a very long time. The persuasion system is a nice little minigame to help you get into someone's good graces, but if you're a vampire who hasn't fed on a person lately, nobody will like you. That makes no sense, right? If you feed it should turn you into a monster, not the other way around. But yes, you must feed on sleeping folks just to keep yourself looking presentable for your gullible friends.
There's a lot of framerate issues too, but this is to be expected with such a graphically intense game. If only they would have put more effort into revising their systems, this game could have been a lot better. It's basically just a graphical overhaul of Morrowind.
And on a last note, you can slide the difficulty slider down to nothing... It helps you get through some areas that are particularly hard, and helps you escape some of the plethora of bugs that plague this game, but it really just takes out the challenge. And yes, there is a ridiculous ton of bugs and glitches in this game. I lost about 4 hours just replaying from an earlier save a few time because of glitches. I would recommend doing your research on the glitches for the version you are going to get, and see if they are too serious or not for you to handle. If you WANT to give this game a solid chance, you may have a lot of fun... but prepare for a huge commitment with this one!
great game, great graphics, if your into games that are long and difficult this game is for you. plus it comes with awesome add on content as if the regular game wasn't long enough for you.
