This game showed so much promise. Finally a game similar to Zelda and GoW on 360? Sign me up! I was sorely disappointed after playing for 6 hours that this game is a mess. The controls are HORRIBLE...especially for a boss fight like Tiamat, where you need to click 10 different things to throw sticky bombs onto a moving object while trying to avoid fire blasts and the dragons charges. I am an avid gamer and rarely have i been so frustrated by how CHEAP a game can be based on crap controls. I am taking this piece of dung to Gamestop and trading it in toward a prepurchase of Dante's Inferno. Lets hope EA handles their end better than THQ.

Why this game is Awesome.

I love this game. The graphics are great, the story is straightforward yet compelling, the combat is amazing, and the puzzles are challenging. Darksiders is a terrific game and a blast to play. All of the negative comments seem to be based on the fact that it is like "Prince of Persia, with elements of Zelda and God of War mixed in" or something to that effect. Well, I have never played any of those games, so to me it is just a great game. Imagine if someone told you a new movie was out that had the story and character motivation of The Lord of the Rings, the space battles of Star Trek II The Wrath of Kahn, and the hyperkinetic light saber fights of Revenge of the Sith. Now imagine you had never seen any of those. You would probably think it was an awesome film. That is Darksiders. Don't listen to the negatives. This is a great game, and more to the point, really fun and enjoyable to play, which is what a game should be.

So, I was looking for a new action game to play, when I came across the trailer for this. It included some interviews with the programmers, also. I was very intrigued by the story, so I jumped on it. Once I got the game figured out, it was actually pretty fun. I guess I can do as some others did, and say its kind of like God of War, but hey, I love God of War! Instead of axes attached to chains, you wield this very large sword, which looks pretty good, and gets stronger as you move along in the game. Yes, it has plenty of puzzles you need to solve in order to move...but, that's a good part of the challenge. I gave it 4 stars, because for some reason, it felt like something was lacking...I just can't figure it out. But, well worth playing...can't wait to see what they do with Darksiders 2!

I almost didn't get this game due to some of the bad reviews, but I figured I would give it a shot. I personally LIKE when a game has familiar controls or a style because it is easier for me to slide into playing rather than learning the controls (Too Human took forever to get used to!). This game reminded me a lot of God of War, which being one of my favorite games, was not a bad thing at all. Over all, I really enjoyed the entire game play experience and even the storyline. Usually I just fast button through the cut scenes but this time I wanted to know what was going on. I liked that there was a load of things to find but that they weren't all totally necessary for the end game. Sure there are the achievements, but spending hours checking and rechecking every location for the one item out of 30 you missed is boring. Some of the puzzles got a bit confusing, but nothing was so hard that I gave up (The first boss fight was a personal nightmare for me though).

Overall, this has quickly become one of my favorite games that I can easily see having a lot of replay even if it is just to ride around and kill bad guys.

I was first interested in this game because it was well received by a few review sites, but was hesitant to pick it up because hasn't this all been done before?

Darksiders is an immersive and fun game that stands on its own merits as a game you want to play. I am having a blast with it and hope that more will support Vigil on their freshman venture so we can see some more from them. The controls are easy for novice's like myself while there are more advances combos that veterans will enjoy, but the end result is the same, destruction and lots of it!

The graphics, controls and voice acting are top notch. The load times on the 360 are short as well.

Go pick it up, if you like action games this is a must have!

Okay Okay...

I wanted to look at the reviews to see how people felt about this particular game. I do own it, and plan on playing it again on a higher difficulty. I must say, this game is AWESOME!!! Good graphics, GREAT storyline, challenging enough but not unbeatable and FUN to control the Horseman especially when fighting your enemies (like the large worm) The game itself gets even better once you upgrade your weapons and get more upgrades from Vulgrim which is a very well detailed character that has the perfect voice to go along with his personality, reminded me of the Crypt Keeper from Tales from the Crypt, lol. I see the lowest rated people mentioned the controls sucking, the graphics not so good, or it has bosses that are unbeatable. The controls DO NOT suck, you have to play a bit to get a feel of how to control the Horseman, having to use multiple controls to throw bombs or what have you only add to the challenge!! The graphics are great, at times I felt as if I were there, honestly not bad and I never witnessed any item being there one second and not the next. The bosses, yes they can be quite a pain, I admit.

You just have to figure out what steps to take in order to do damage because using only your sword may not be enough. There is always a way to beat a mini boss such as the jailer, I died about 5 times before I finally took him down. I did this by throwing my crossblade toward all of the yellow points which of course represent his weak points but you have to this them all by targeting them all first. Once you do this, he will fall to his knees then you can attack the puppetmaster once you do this a few times, he will eventually fall for good. This game isn't only about FIGHTING but greatly involves strategy, sort of like Laura Croft Tomb Raider, the older Playstation games. The only negative point in my opinion is how at times the Horseman jumps and no matter how many times I press the button, his shadow wings do not appear, it's as if he picks and chooses when he wants to fly. There are boards that require strategy with little bloodshed, but it makes the game that more interesting, because your progress isn't given to you, you have to think things through to get far in this game.

Five stars in my book, finally a game that gives you a challenge, is fun, has a great storyline to accompany the good graphics, isn't too easy to beat, and the character realistically progresses in experience including weapons and skill. This is one game that had me playing for hours at a time, thinking "I will stop once I get to this point but then I end up playing another hour or so without realizing it! I will NOT be selling once I beat it a few more times, I will want to play it again in time. COME ON DARKSIDERS 2, I'm waiting for it!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's get it out in the open right away...

Darksiders blatantly rips off the gameplay of God of War and a few others (Portal?!?!?). But, unlike other games that copy the gameplay of God of War and others, Darksiders actually gets it right, straight on. This game is a blast and Xbox 360 owners finally get their "God of War".

I would definitely recomment this game. The gameplay is awesome, the visuals are amazing and the story, although a little skimpy, is well-played out. Don't wait, just buy it. You'll be glad you did!

I think this is a really underrated game that a lot of people would enjoy. Although its very similar to games like Zelda it still feels different enough for it to stand on its own merit in what it accomplishes.

All in all, I had no expectations going into this game but was very pleasantly suprised.

Great graphics

Great gameplay

Good sound effects and music

Decent Story

Decent Replayability

Difficulty was just right and pacing was pretty good.

Combat was fun

I was very dissappointed to see some of the mediocre reviews that a lot of websites gave this game. My first playthrough took me about 18 hours on normal difficulty and that was with a moderate amount of exploring. I have since put it back on the shelf in my "No Trade" pile. I will be playing though it again on the hardest difficulty at some point and am eagerly awaiting the inevitable DLC (I hope!)

I purchased this game, as I do all my games these days, through Amazon. Release day delivery? Yes, please. I got it the day that it was released, and played into it quite a few hours before I had to take a break. Many other reviews have stated that it takes elements from other games out there, and yeah, they're right. But then again, as the song says, "It's all been done." I challenge you to find a game that's 100% unique anymore. That being said, on with the review.

Gameplay - 5/5

I've got no issues with this, at all. The control scheme is very intuitive, and there's no room for improvement, so far as I can tell, with one exception: when you've gone and lifted a car and used the aiming system to actually target a target, you end up being stuck in that targeting mode until you click out of it. This may jive for some people, but it just doesn't do it for me. That being said, all the buttons do what I'd logically expect them to do after years of playing other great games like Twilight Princess, the Jak and Daxter series, and so forth. The puzzles are quite challenging, the dungeons are labyrinthine as they can be (I confess: I actually had to Google my way outta one of them), and the level of interaction with the environment is perfect.

Transitions between combat and finishing moves are seamless: once you've done enough damage and press B, you move in for the kill at the end of the sweep of your blade. What's more, I absolutely love the way that Ruin (your steed) feels more like an extension of War, rather than a separate entity. More times than not, I've noticed horses in terms of gameplay become a tedious vehicle more than anything else. Not so with Ruin.

Graphics - 5/5

Even before the patch was released to address the screen-tearing issue, I had no real qualms with what screen-tearing there was. The scenery is beautiful, even when you're using the Serpent Holes to get from point to point (which I thought was a very clever method of navigation, vice choosing your new locale and insta-popping there). There's one fight in the game where the boss has a teleporting ability, and I'll say this: I was blown away. The cinematics were lovely, and I'll admit that at certain stages, I got more than just a little misty-eyed with what was going on. "Ruin... I won't fight you."

Sound - 5/5

Everything from the score to the labored breathing of Ruin as you speed through the Ashlands is masterfully done, as far as I'm concerned. The star-studded voice cast just adds to the awesomesauceness. Among the many talented voice artists are Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker and the voice of the Joker) whom plays the Watcher and Phil LaMarr (so many roles to mention just one) voices Vulgrim the demonic merchant. Simply superb.

Replayability - 4/5

I can't give many games perfect marks here, as there's nothing that makes me want to come back and play it again once I'm finished. There are the achievements, sure, and maybe even the Abyssal Armor, but they don't add anything to the game, really. They're just something for trophy hunters to pursue, and well, that just doesn't do it for me. Be mindful, however, that like a movie or a book, I'll definitely be coming back to revisit the world of Darksiders from time to time.

All in all, Darksiders is a game that I'd recommend to anyone and everyone. For the first release of the new company, this is just downright beautiful.

First of all, let me say I do not own this game. I rented it. That said, I will most likely buy this in the coming days, it is that good. The reason I rented it is because I, like most people, read lots of negative reviews concerning the screen tearing on the Xbox 360 version. Well, after playing it for a bit, I can say that there is no visible tearing from what I can tell. If there is any, I cannot tell and it doesn't affect gameplay at all. OK, now on to the actual game review...

What would happen if Kratos and Link had a love child? Well you would get something very close to Darksiders. This is a game that truly appeals to gamers, (like myself), who were longing for another console Zelda. Well knowing Nintendo, this very well may be the best Zelda we get. The graphics are awesome, not cartoony like some other games... The game is very dark, a lot like God of War, which is good considering we Xboxers can't play GoW. Another aspect I really like is the puzzles, and the simple combat. To use a cliche, the combat system is easy to learn, but hard to master. OK, being a 21 year old male, I must say that the amount of blood and gore is perfect! Instead of just continuing to kill the enemy, if you press B at the right time, War will rip the enemy apart and/or decapitate it, with blood gushing. All of this is displayed awesomely and in slow motion.

Bottom line: If you are fans of Zelda, GoW, Prince of Persia or other similar games, then buy this immediately. If you want to see for yourself without dropping the cash, rent it from GameFly. If you like it, then you can keep it for $42.99, the same price as Amazon.

I'm enjoying it very much.

Completely worth buying.

Going into Darksiders, I wasn't expecting much -- an action adventure game released in January by a new development studio.

The game borrows heavily from The Legend of Zelda in terms of gameplay and mechanics. Players can expect wide open (but linear) environments, puzzle-littered dungeons, and a satisfyingly smooth combat system. Clocking about 14 hours, the Darksiders' campaign is well paced -- it doesn't feel like it is neither too short nor too long. The settings are well envisioned, but the story, at times, fails to hold my interest.

All in all, I was very pleased with this game. I would recommend Darksiders to any fan of the genre and especially to those who enjoyed either of the N64-era Zelda games.
