I bought this game 4 days ago and my girlfriends have been coming over every night to play! Let me just say that I had never played this game before. I bought the Xbox360 because i wanted the hd dvd player (the attachment is only 200 dollars and does wonders for my 50 inch hdtv). I figured that one day i may play a game on the machine, but i am not by any stretch a "gamer." Basically, the xbox and hd dvd attachment were less expensive than a stand alone hd dvd player, so i ended up with the xbox360...ANYWAY...Dance Dance Revolution has changed the purpose of my XBOX360, and it is the probably one of the best games i have ever played! It is so much fun and so user friendly! Also-it is a fantastic workout. Seriously. I have never written a review on Amazon before, however I had to take the time to give some feedback here because I think everyone needs one!!!

If you have played DDR on other platforms, you will probably be disappointed with this version. In particular:

The music selection was less varied than in past editions. There are licensed songs, but mostly older songs or "hip-hop" - there are not many current dance songs. There are reconizable artists doing songs for this mix (Midihead, Echo Image and Neuropa to name a few), as well as remakes of older songs (like Ecstasy, Insertion and Candy).

The doubles charts seem like they were designed at random. There is a progression of moves you expect to see based on difficulty, and they are very different from singles. The doubles steps don't follow that progression, and are not very new-player friendly. A 6-foot doubles looks like a singles song randomly tossed over 2 mats. This makes many of the doubles songs more difficult than you would expect from the foot-rating. Another problem with doubles is that you must select the pad layout EVERY TIME you pick a song. It would be nice if it would default to the last layout you picked.

The "improved graphics" do not enhance the game, but rather detract from it. DDR is a simple game - watch the arrows and step. The graphics and flashing tend to make it harder to see the arrows (although the movies are not harmful).

Lastly, the load times are significant - about 12 seconds per song. While not terrible, other platforms load faster.

The game includes "downloadable content" - there are 10 songs on the game that can only be unlocked through X-box live by paying $10.

There are also songs unlockable through "quest" mode. This is the worst type of unlocking system I have ever played on a DDR platform. In previous versions, there were finite tasks to do, which if you did, gave you the ability to unlock songs. This version is fluky - you travel around from site to site, and mainly compete to get your "fan base" up. A problem with this system though is even if yuo do a song perfectly (full combo it), you may not meet the objective. Another fluke you may see is being assigned to do 15 Freeze steps, and the song doesn't have 15 Freeze steps, so you fail again. The quest mode is more designed to waste time than add enjoyment to the game.

To the game's credit, it is very new-player friendly. It has a lesson based tutorial, and the quest mode will never kick you out mid-song (there is no life meter in quest mode).

Another good part of the game is there is a nice variety of difficulty levels for singles, right from the start. Some older versions had "gaps" where there might be only a few songs at a certain level (especially 8+). The challenge levels of the songs are nicely dispersed. One odd thing though - there are a lot more jumps here than other versions. This is good if you play for exercise.

If you are considering buying this, realize that your old dance pads will not work with this. The Konami pad included is pretty good for a thin pad, but you'll want to buy foam pads if you play the game a lot. If you are going to shell out $[...] for 2 "Beat pad pro" foam pads, you are better off giving up on the X360, and playing DDR on either the PS2 or Xbox. Both have better games, and a single set of Red Octane foam pads will work on both the PS2 and the old Xbox. There are much better games on the other platforms; on old Xbox, take a closer look at Ultramix 2 & 3. On PS2, look at DDR Supernova and Extreme 2, or "In the Groove" if you are a skilled player.

DDR Universe is definitely a very fun game that can be used to keep you moving. The only gripe I may have is sometimes the background images are kind of distracting to the actual game play and may cause you to miss an arrow. Other than that I would definitely recommend this game to everyone who likes this type of game and it's even more fun if you have a second pad where the competition just increases the fun factor and replay value.

This is a great game for teens that doesn't involve any muder, shooting or bad language. Hey, how can it be that much fun? BUT IT IS! Great physical exercise and fun for kids 11 to 18!

My wife LOVES this game, shes dancing on it every chance she gets. I can hardly play the 360 anymore!

I bought this game (and the XBOX 360) because I needed something that was fun that would get me to exercise. I have always been less than enthusiastic about exercise but loved to dance, so I thought it would be a solution. I was right beyond my wildest dreams! First, it is so easy to pop the DVD into the XBOX -- with the hard drive it saves what you have done so that there is no messing around with computer controls to get started. There is a progression in difficulty so that you start with the beginner 's Game Mode Lite (my grandaughter calls it Game mode lame, but I don't care.) The advanced modes are incredibly complex, so I know that I'm not going to run out of challenges any time soon -- probably never. You only need about a 4' x 4' space in front of the TV for the game mat, unlike exercise videos that seem to assume that you have a home gym with 20' of clear space in every direction. The songs are hot -- great rock (although I'm not as fond of some of the rap) -- and surprisingly, some of the slow songs are harder than the fast ones. You get a letter grade as well as a numerical score after each song, and for someone conditioned to school, you just can't allow yourself to be satisfied with a C, so you do it again. I had said to myself that I would do it for at least 20 minutes per day, but find I am not satisfied until I have danced for at least 45 minutes. And, I am sweating and loving it! Finally, for someone who hates to go to the gym and really doesn't have the time, this requires no more time than the hated treadmill currently cluttering up my living room (it's going to the garage this weekend and possibly onto E-bay after that). So, it is loads of fun, it's convenient, it's great exercise (although I find I'm just thinking of it as a game more and more)and it doesn't clutter up your house with ugly gym equipment. We've bought other XBox games and they are all pretty good (Never thought that I would be playing video games)but this is still the best!

Great for a family or parties. Good game, I don't understand all of the modes, and you'd need another pad to have two players play at once, but I like it. A game that actually give you exercise, lol.

One concern: this mat is slippery, use bare feet and put a yoga mat under it.

My daughter who is 15 recieved DDR as a Christmas gift this year. She absolutely loves it! My son(13 yrs.) and my husband also get in on the fun. It is also a great workout. It is kind of like guitar hero for your feet. I definitely reccomend it to any age group.

This game is one of the funnest ever. It's a great workout and get's you moving with new moves. It's more challenging then you might think but that's half of the fun. It's even better playing with friends but you won't be disappointed playing on your own.

My family loves this game, we have only had it for a week and its great exercise and brings the family together.

Once my kids showed me how to work the game, I love it! I can sign in, put in my weight information and put the game into workout mode. It tracks how many calories I've burned while playing the game. Doing challenges or going into the Quest Mode can be addicting...I keep trying to "beat" the game and before you know it I've been exercising for over an hour! Much more fun than going to the gym!!!

We started out by thinking that the original DDR for the XBOX (NOT 360) was compatible with our new 360. Not so. Pretty disappointed when we found that the plugs were different on the dance pad, and once we found a "joy box" that turned the xbox dance mat into a usb-type pad; it still didn't work. Returned it and skeptically ordered the 360 version with 2 months and counting for the release. It arrived last week, and I have to say, it is a LOT of fun! Our kids are on it constantly, it is great to get up and play a "game" and move around. Even the adults are on this thing. The beats are actually very well put-together. The tunes are beat-driven to help you learn from beginning all the way up. Once you pass and get a perfect "grade" by dancing the correct way on the mat to the song, it unlocks another song in the progression of difficulty. You can also log onto xbox live and compete against others live. Haven't done that yet, we are trying to not fall over and trip still! I recommend this to anyone who is sick of sitting on the couch and wants to try something new. Also has a workout mode. Believe me, 3 to 4 songs nonstop and you are working up a sweat without pressing the workout option. We just ordered another dancemat after exhaustive research. This pad slips all over the place, so get some velcro to keep it still when dancing. Check out the dance pad pro (on amazon). It has a port for your headset and of course eventually the karaoke games that will obviously come out in the future.

My brother gave this to my 6 year old daughter for Xmas. I thought it might be a silly waste of money, but boy was I wrong! My daughter is ADDICTED to it! She just cried herself to sleep because it's bedtime and we wouldn't let her dance one more song. What was the biggest surprise is that everyone tried it out and loved it. My brother and his girlfriend had a "dance-off" and he's buying one for himself. Even my 62 year old father tried it out. Plus it's not only fun to do but fun to watch. Perfect for parties!

Bought this for my 10 year old daughter's birthday as she liked the arcade game. It was fun, but a bit harder to operate for her. Need a hard flat surface to play it on, and the pad has no "Feelers" so as to help her center herself so she can strike the pads with her feet when needed. She has a tendency to loose her center and move out of the pad sensors so though she is hitting the pads, she is not getting the points for it.

Songs were ok, but kind of lame.

Good workout for her though and she works up a sweat playing on it alot. She loves it.

DDRU is a good game. If you've never owned a DDR game, then this is a good buy for the 360...since it is the only offering on the 360 so far, you don't really have much of a choice.

Overall the game is fun. Personally I don't care for a lot of the songs on this version. The PS2 games had much better song selections. Some of the songs on this version just don't have any beat to them, so it's hard to get into the rhythm.

The quest mode feels tacked on and is really quite confusing. There are no instructions as to what you are doing. I recommend checking out the different websites to figure out what to do in quest mode.

Party mode is okay, but some of the modes are a bit confusing. Personally I prefer to just do game mode with two people and try to beat each others score.

The dance pad is decent. It's not as nice as some of the other, more expensive pads, but that's to be expected. Just put a bit of Velcro on the bottom (hook portion only) and it will stay in place much beter.\

More songs are available on the Xbox Live Marketplace, but personally I think that they are a rip-off. You can make that decision yourself though :)

Overall, the game is a lot of fun and dancing with more than one person really makes the game much more enjoyable. If you really need a version of DDR for the 360 then buy it. If you don't mind waiting, I'd recommend waiting to see if they release another version for the 360 later on. Hopefully with a better song track.
