great game
creative, great gameplay
much more difficult than the first game
it is the same environment but feels new
worth 60$
Ok. To start things off i'm gonna say up front When your playing this game forget there is a storyline. Now that thats out of the way you wont be dissapointed. Crackdown 2 was obviously not made for its storyline. All of crackdown 2's fun comes from blowing people sky high, catching renegade orbs, upgrading your stats and watching your Character (Agent) Evolve drastically. The game never ends until you have 100 % everything so there is so many things you can do once the story is "over". The 4 player co-op online makes the game better because its always alot easier to beat things with more agents. the story line itself ...Quite easily...SUCKS. but just because the storyline sucks doesnt mean that jumping off a 20 story building, and ground pounding the ground to kill a block worth of enemies sucks. Quite easily this game is great, not for its story but for the thought and development that went into the characters, the abilities, the upgrade system and the all around playability of it. if your still skeptical ...Rent it... the storyline itself is very short cant give a time estimate because i didnt keep track.
Ok so weapons wise they added alot of rocket launchers including the flocket launcher- which is a homing missle launcher that can attack in rapid succesion (think machine gun only slower with dead aim accuracy it will literaly do circles around the target until it hits it sometimes) the other launchers are a turret missile launcher and a homing missle launcher(think flocket launcher but alot slower but highly explosive and deadly.) there are numerous machine guns and sub machine guns mostly all the same shot and damage wise. and then there are the shot guns heh. ok so there are regular shot guns and then there is my personal favorite... the UV Shotgun!!! basically its self explanitory its a shotgun that shoots UV rays to desintegrate Freaks (or zombies as i like to call em) not very effective on cell enemies except pushing them back ... way back.as far as grenades the only two in this catagory that stand out to me are the Duck bomb as i like to call it (its literally a rubber duck that is trigger activated and sets off a highly explosive all while quacking lol. and then there is the cluster bomb which sets off 4 explosions in rapid succession. Vehicles are basic you start with a normal agency car - slow but gets the job done, the agency buggy quick acceleration a little faster than the agency car but also has a top mounted turret you control while driving, my personal favorite the supercar- very fast and when impact is made head on with another car it will send that car flying out of the waywithout reducing ur speed!!!. the trucklike suburban thing (forgot what its called because i dont really use it) can jump over certain objects by holding down B and then releasing. enough about the vehicles. Once you upgrade your abilities to a certain level you unlock new actions such as the ground pound basically its where you can jump from any distance in the air and pound the ground to send enemies flying, theres the shoulder charge where you run while knocking any vehicles or people out of ur way, both of these are upgraded through the strength ability another ability is the glide suit where u jump off buildings and glide (self explanatory). now as you can see this is only a few of the things you can do there are far more things you can unlock and do you just have to play the game for yourself ...Good Luck!!
All i have to say for a game that's been in development for 18 months they took a game that i loved and made it even better. Can't stop playing it. And with 3 other friends it's a ton of fun. A game like this does not need a story. If you're looking for a story read a book if you're looking for a fun additive game get this. If you are a true fan of the 1st game there is no reason and i mean no reason why you wouldn't love this game.
Normally I am not a fan of sequels, but this one is good. If you are unsure you can download the demo on the game marketplace on xbox live, it gives you a feel for what the game is like. There are probably more features to this game but I've only played it for a few hours, but here are a few that stick out right away.
I was surprised by the first one and was not sure what to expect from this one. Cool new features on this game:
1) Rogue orbs that you have chase down in cars and on foot. Online orbs only available when playing multiplayer
2) Freaks, the new gang, they come out at night and they are many
3) New weapons (UV for freaks) and other.
4) Same city - post-apocalypse theme. You'll see familiar parts that have been run down and destroyed.
Same side games with rooftop races, road races, and stunt rings. You still have to take over gang (Cell) territories. They have added destroying "freak" hives as well.
This game seems a little more thought through than the first. There is more of a point to the story rather than just taking out gangs that rule an area of the city. The game play is fun with character building keeps you going back to places and if you play side games it will add hours to game play, outside of multiplayer.
I'll begin by saying, I played the first Crackdown and enjoyed it quite a bit, so I was looking forward to Crackdown 2. The game play is very similar to the first Crackdown, and just as rewarding in the skill boost/evolve-your-character category. There is a lot of "capture this territory, protect that territory" sort of game play, but while the premise can seem repetitive, each territory/area has its own flavor. Building up your character is always rewarding; reaching new heights, smashing enemies with greater ease. I find it rather satisfying.
You are in the same city as the first game (Pacific City), but it's ten years later, and you can see the advancements and ravages of time at every corner. The vehicles are familiar, but in my opinion, are easier and more fun to drive. The menu/mapping system in Crackdown2 is more detailed and thorough, keeping track of your collected orbs, rooftop races, etc., which makes pursuing all of the 'extras' that much more enjoyable.
And with a fast paced and evolving multiplayer, you've got a good story and a unique sandbox worthy of a gamers attention.
Before I get to Crackdown 2, I want you to remember the glory days of games like Metal Slug, Gunstar Heroes, and any type of vertical flying shooter. In these games you have the guilty pleasure of going around blasting like hell at everything to make it to the end of the level. Even if the game had a weak story, it was fun back then... right? Many people won't complain about those old 2D shoot'em ups. What Crackdown 2 is (in my mind) a 3D version of any type of shoot'em up, it is just hidden under the new age of gaming and 3D explorable worlds.
If you come into this game having super high expectations and you did not really enjoy the first Crackdown, then steer clear of this game as well. As for everyone else, listen up. Yes it's set in the first city as Crackdown 1, and yes the graphics haven't improved, but I am here to tell you this game has its sights set in the right direction and offers a lot of fun and mindless shooting and collecting game play. (just like a certain generation of older games I already mentioned.) It is great to run around as a beefed up super cop and take down crime, while being steadily rewarded from your kills and driving with the orbs. Seeing your character get bigger and faster is awesome and the power suit he wears even changes as he levels up and looks more badass which each level (think Iron Man on steroids.)
The "Freaks" at night are fun to snipe from rooftops and blow up, and there are tons of them on the screen at once. The first time I jumped off a tall building and then glided over a swarm of freaks finally dropping 100 feet out of midair and groud-pounding the crap out of them was amazing and never gets old. Shooting swarms of enemies really took me back to those mindless shooter games that I loved and still love today.
Every game has its flaws and Crackdown 2 has several. (Things I thought were noticeable)
- Auto aim is pretty clunky sometimes, but free aiming is also optional and fun
- Melee combat is stiff and needs more combos
- Character Customization is very limited, I wish they added some more options to make your agent reflect your own style
- No pistols, I really like using pistols
- Wish they added a dual wielding weapon option
- Shooting from ledges would be sweet
- You can't aim down the scope with a sniper rifle, but with crap tons of enemies everywhere it would take too long and I found sniping people from a distance to still be satisfying.
- The "ramming" ability doesn't look fast enough when the agent is running.
- City kinda looks like LEGO Land in some places: blocky buildings, solid colors.
- Climbing can be frustrating sometimes. If they had the climbing and lock on jumping system of INFAMOUS this game would be so much better.
- A wall run feature would be amazing as well
While this list seems long and bad, most of these comments are things I wished they put in the game. There are plenty of good parts too!
-Suit looks badass
- !!! Jumping off of rooftops and GLIDING is complicated and seems crappy UNTIL you figure out how to do it! You have to jump off a high enough place and once you activate the gliding and see his limbs splay out and the BLUE trail of lines behind you, you gotta aim his body downwards: once he dips low enough the lines will turn RED and then you slam the control stick back (I play with inverted Y axis) to make him shoot back up into the air and you just repeat those steps and you can go really far! You will eventually land, but it is so COOL!
- Ok, despite what others say, this city is ALIVE! I found a guy playing an acoustic guitar SINGING a SONG about the agency and the cell and there was a crowd watching and some were dancing to the beat! I was quite impressed! I also saw a guy on the street trying to sell a miracle drug to a crowd...LOL awesome!
- guns are awesome and sound great, I love the crack of the non silenced sniper rifle.
- driving is really fun, great stunts
- Draw distance is quite amazing from even the tallest building
- People in the game will comment on your actions; bad guys cuss and yell at you
- freaks sound very good, especially for this game which isn't even a horror game.
- orb finder is helpful
- Renegade orbs are a nice new challenge
- freaks will chase you on the rooftops
- explosions are epic
- jumping is just as awesome as the first Crackdown
- Scaling buildings may not be realistic, but it gets the job done, plus I don't wanna spend 5 minutes trying to climb a building anyway. I want to scale it as fast as I can; it's a super hero type game!
- Ramming into cars and freaks is fun as hell
- Power drop from the air is great and looks sweet and does lots of damage
- Helicopters! And surprisingly they control excellently!
- Sticky mag grenade
To all of you who loved the first Crackdown and just want some more orb collecting, gun shooting, roof jumping, freak killing goodness then definitely get this game. I am sure it is fun online too. Overall I give this game an 8.7 out of 10 for the few actual flaws that stand out to me, but overall it's a blast to play!
And as side note: If you are deciding between this or Red Dead Redemption, choose Crackdown 2. RDR has some of the most boring game play I have ever witnessed in all the games I have ever played, do you really wanna tap the "A" button for 8 minutes while riding a pony to get somewhere?! Or would you rather being jumping massive buildings and blowing up hundreds of zombies in a badass agent suit?!
I don't know how to send this to amazon, but I just want to say i'm so glad i'm a customer of this site. About 5 minutes ago I sent an email stating that I didn't receive a download code for a pre-order bonus. TWO minutes later I got an e-mail containing the code. TWO MINUTES. amazing customer service. amazing.
THANK YOU AMAZON
This game is simply a blast to play with or without friends. The co-op mode is the best since Borderlands and in many ways is similar, as a result playing with a group is a blast... literally.
If you enjoy open world, free-roam games that are just fun to play then you will love this. If you are looking for an on-the-rails game that is heavy on story then this is not for you.
The critics are wrong on this one.
This so far is a great game. It is a nice expansion from number 1. If you were a fan of Crackdown 1 you will definitely love this one. The mass of freaks in the street is a nice addition. Driving in your agency vehicle and doing powerslides taking out hundreds is FUN!
There are a few things that I have some problems with that I cannot remember happening in the first one. I feel like I am "leveling" my skills up way too fast. I have been playing for roughly 2-3 hours and my skills are already 3 of 6. I know towards the upper levels it takes more to level up, but it seems that they didn't put much into section.
One of the things that it appears everyone doesn't like is the announcer - I feel it is a nice comedic relief. I also love when he announces my achievements.
Overall I would give this game a 4.5/5 stars. Since there isn't that ranking on here, I went ahead and rounded up.
OMG LOL CRACKDOWNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This a brand new game call CRACKDOWNS where you play a character name THA AGENT But this ain't no travel agent know what I saying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In crakdown you (akaa the agent) has to stop the evil from taking over Passific city only problem is the evil already done took over dawg!!! So you has to jump aroun and shoot guns and make esplosions and totally pown the freaks that are lose in the city of passific city and let me tell you it is FUN too dawg. The best part of about crackdowns tho is that you not just jumping high for no reason no way hosey!!! you are jumping around to colect adjilidy orcs!!! when you finely jump on enuff adjility orcs then it level you badd a$$ up and then you can jump even more higher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats where crackdowns really start to shin! Once you can jump up real high then the game transform into almost just like HALOE!!!!! you just jump around and pown and own noobs and f@gs and dooshes who try to step to you it's ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
now, down to busness, the tecknical specks:
Grafficks- WOW totally cool graffiks with SELL SHADINGS! They are photo realistical and the frame rates are good.
Draw distance: It draws real good graffiks and I stood way far back from my TV and they still looked AWSOME so the draw distance is real good
I/O clocking performance (in Hz3) Input output refresh rates clock at 250 Hz @ 3 seconds, 500 Hz @ 8.78 seconds with true differential nano-splitting thanks to tru-biz gigahertz interface capacitors, and that means more badassness for you, holmie!!!!!!!!
In short, if you like to pown noobs and totally own like me than you should get this game CRACKDOWNS!!!!!! If your a noob or a puss maybe you should stay awaye and play Mareo Carts or Villa Pinyada or some other wantabe punk looser game! LOOSER!!!!!! But if you can step to me like a man then maybe crakdowns is 4 U. HOLLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First off, the best part of the Crackdown games is collecting orbs! Don't get me wrong, it's fun to pick up cars and throw them, but orb collecting is where it's at. It's fun to figure out how to get to the top of buildings and other structures to reach the orbs. As you level up your agility, you can jump higher to reach places you couldn't before. You have to backtrack at times to reach orbs you've passed before. It can be a chore, but if you're a completionist, you'll find a lot to do in this game.
Crackdown 2 plays just like the first Crackdown. The graphics are cel-shaded, so it looks like you're in a comic book. Don't expect Alan Wake or Dead Space quality graphics in this game! Gameplay is just like the original. You run around, powering up your abilities such as strength, driving, guns, and agility. Orbs scattered around the city help increase your skill levels.
New to Crackdown 2 are freaks. They are mutated people who've been infected. You learn more about them in the intro. The terrorist group in Crackdown 2 is called Cell. I haven't gotten far enough to find out if there are multiple factions like in the first Crackdown.
I've played a variety of missions. In the first mission, you have to reach a drop point and secure it by killing the Cell terrorists. Another mission I've completed was securing collectors for the power beacon, which is used against the freaks.
There is a variety of weapons in Crackdown 2, you get automatic rifles, shotguns, pistols, rocket launchers, etc. There are energy weapons in this game, which is new from the first Crackdown. I received a UV shotgun which does heavy damage to multiple freaks at close to medium range. The freaks disintegrate into a yellow/orange fire when you destroy them.
If you've played and enjoyed the first Crackdown, you'll like Crackdown 2. Don't expect an big improvement in graphics or gameplay. There are some added abilities and weapons which keep things fresh, in addition to the freaks, so it's not just a rehash of the original, although it takes place in the same city.
If you're new to Crackdown, don't expect a blockbuster AAA title with Crackdown 2. For what it is, Crackdown 2 is a really fun game. As I stated before, the fun is collecting the different orbs and powering up your character.
One thing to note is that the lock-on targeting is sort of hokey. If an enemy is standing next to a vehicle or barrel, sometimes it'll lock-on to the object instead of the enemy. I only use lock-on targeting when there are a lot of enemies coming after me. You can also aim freely to pick your targets. With the lock-on targeting, you can move the right thumbstick to select different body parts such as head, arms, and legs of enemies. It's a nice feature, but I rarely use it because it slows you down when there are tons of enemies on screen.
This game is alot like the old one but this has the co op. well should i say alot smoother co op (1-4). You gotta love this game but you gotta talk your friends into buying it. Be sure to work together and it turns into shear awesomeness. Choose your guns wisely and don't everyone get the same weapons. I'm still playing this on the hardest mode and it's talking me a long time to beat and get all the achievements. Well worth the money. Heck the first one i broke it out and played it about once a month after i beat it. It's just addicting. I'm not big on 3rd person games but this is the best i've ever played. Don't get it for the storyline. Get it for the action and longevity. The only bad thing i can say is it's repetitive. But they break that up with all the stuff you can do from A to B. Also you got multiplayer(2-16) game modes outside of the co op. Best 60 Bucks i've spent this year.
I loved the first Crackdown to death and can honestly say that I would not choose to play any other game in preference. Crackdown 2 hasn't changed this except I now need to decide which Crackdown I want to play.
What really works for me is the open world where you can just ignore the missions and go off exploring. It's a lovingly created environment - each building has been individually designed with exploration in mind. The new Pacific City can be a sad place as all the buildings you knew and loved from the first game are dark and broken. If you spent many happy hours exploring before then the whole feel is different now, more dirty and run-down in parts, for example. I still get the sense of vertigo when climbing the really tall buildings, though - this feeling of immersion is such a positive aspect of the game.
Orb hunting has been extended with the addition of ones that have to be chased down and those that are static, available in Coop-only XBL mode. The HUD has a short-range scan feature to help locate the orbs which is a nice touch that I make use of a lot.
Roof-top and road races are as before, as are the stunt rings except with the addition of those for the gliding ability added to the Agent's suit at higher agility levels. This limited form of flight is sweet and helps remove the risk of pancaking when climbing the Agency or Hope Towers (the latter building being a new addition). The star of the show, though, is the helicopter which allows you to navigate to anywhere in the city and blow things up.
There are missions to step you through the story, should you so wish. The Cell are a straight swap for the crime groups of the first version and don't offer too much of a challenge if you take your time. Dealing with the freaks in their homes, though, is another matter as you are battling a horde and need to quick and resourceful.
Other people have complained about the plot and I don't really understand what they are griping about. There is actually a story which unfolds - first through the five downloadable webcomics and then with the in-game audio tapes that you can discover around the city - and one I am interested in following. Sure, you don't have any deep Fable-style RPG interaction but Crackdown isn't that sort of game - Crackdown is ... Crackdown.
In summary, with Crackdown 2 you get an FPS, a driving sim, a flying sim, an Easter egg hunt, and puzzle solving (how to climb buildings), all in a co-op sandbox world.
This game has receieved alot of hate, mostly due to some extraordinarily high expectations, which are unwarranted. This game is not unlike the first, in that it is completely sandboxy and expects you to fool around in it. Many of the professional reviews would have you believe the game is broken, the controls suck and its a total bore. I implore you not to read into these reviews. You have sites on Metacritic like Destructoid and Gamecritics which love to entice hits by putting up low scores. If you look at some of the most trusted review sites, such as Gamespot, Eurogamer, Gametrailers and IGN, this game ranges from a 7-8, which is good to great by most scales.
The game is not perfect. Once and a while you wont be able to grab onto a ledge and say "WTF" and the auto targeting sometimes targets the wrong thing (like one of your police vehicles) but this is hardly as consistent as some reviewers would have you believe. The addition of the freaks at night (think zombies) adds another layer of Left 4 Dead/Carmageddon type fun to the game, where you can literally mow hundreds of them over with your car. Not only that, but once your strong enough you can just run through them or ground pound them from the sky. The mission types can get repetetive, but when your bored of that you can simply hunt for orbs or tool around in the city with your car trying to improve your driving skills.
So take my word for it. I play alot of games both in general and in this genre (RDR, GTA4, Just Cause 2, Crackdown 1, Saints Row, Mercenaries), and have been playing games since the NES days, and this is the very definition of limitless freedom in a sandbox. And not even to mention, you can add three friends with you and cause a ridiculous amount of carnage in this world. So even if this game is more like Crackdown 1.5 then Crackdown 2, it is still an incredibly fun experience and a great summer tie over until Halo: Reach hits in September.
I played the original and didn't find it very fun but everybody was going on about the second one so I thought I would give it a second chance. I didn't find much difference but I actually enjoyed just jumping 20 feet in the air and running over the freaks with my car. The graphics aren't like Heavy Rain or even COD MW2 but has more of a borderlands feel to it but third person. The menu when you press start is terribly confusing to anyone. I really enjoyed the weapons and powers but I found it repetitive playing the missions since they are a lot the same. If your looking for more from this game from Crackdown 1 dont expect it because this is not much different from the 1st If you own the 1st one don't buy this game unless your a die hard fan its exactly like the first one.
