One of the best theatrical games ever released. A definite step up from COD4 in game play and graphics.
First off let me say I'm a huge fan of the Call of Duty series, I have literally played 6000+ games of CoD:MW. I have been excited since the announcement of Modern Warfare 2, and apparently with good reason!
I installed Modern Warfare 2 to my HDD and started it up. Everything from the menus to the ambient sounds have been changed and enhanced...now of course these are just small details, but worth noting after you've been used to CoD:MW for so long. I played a few hours of campaign, and its nothing short of incredible. The visuals and sounds are razor sharp and make it hard to keep your eye on the prize.
I found myself venturing off to look at level details and textures, but hey that's all part of getting a new game right? I don't wanna ruin any of the story details but let me tell you, it doesn't disappoint. And one note to parents: this game really isn't for kids under 16 in my opinion, its got some pretty brutal scenes which were even hard to swallow for me sometimes.
Multiplayer is just as addicting as Modern Warfare and the levels in my opinion are a huge step up! Levels like high-rise and estate are just fantastic, great size and proportion whether you enjoy sniping or full out run and gun each level has something for you. I didn't get to spend much time with the online portion because of work but the digging around I did do was mind blowing! The amount of perks, kill streaks, death streaks, and equipment is night and day with the previous Modern Warfare. Just get ready to mess around with those configurations because their are tons of possible combination's.
Anybody who's seen any Youtube videos or TV commercials knows this game is one of the best looking out right now, so I'm gonna let your eyes tell your brain how crisp and detailed the visuals are! I am however gonna mention the audio, I'm playing with a 7.1 setup and the sound is hands down the best I've ever heard in a video game. The little things that catch your ear, just wow you. You hear crickets, flies, florescent light ballasts humming, guns reloading way off in the distance, seriously the amount of audio detail just surrounds you!
The only problem I found with this game so far is trying to put the controller down, I literally kept saying "okay one more game", "I think I'm gonna check out this perk then I'm done"...this went on for well over 3 hours. I would suggest anybody with a 360, PS3, or PC pick this game up, you aren't complete without it!
*Update* Just a quick update here and since Amazon wont let me change my stars just take my original 5 and multiply by 100! Spec Ops mode is incredible! 2 player "co-op" game play that gives me back the double team game type I missed from Halo 2&3 and the action and excitement that far rivals Horde Mode (Gears of War 2) and Terrorist Hunt (Rainbow Six: Vegas 1&2). Playing these scenarios over and over again is well worth the price of admission alone!
I won't make this a long-winded review. I'll keep it short:
Technical aspects: the game looks amazing. Seriously, the graphics are superb. You get a variety of missions that literally take you all over the world to very diverse locales. Each environment has been really well rendered, for the most part. The D.C. missions were particularly noteworthy, in my opinion. The weapons are much improved over COD4, and I thought the weapons were pretty good then too. What I like about MOD2 is the enemy weapons are just as good as the ones you are carrying - didn't always feel that way in COD4. The weapons themselves feel modern: a few of the weapons have thermal vision and a heartbeat sensor. I definitely feel this game is worthy of the "modern" designation in the title. In COD4, you the player were definitely modern, but let's face it, the enemy wasn't always up to par. Now your enemies have the same gear you have, meaning they will also use thermal scopes and helicopters against you, for example. Other than that, it's not that different from your typical FPS, it's just done very well.
Campaign: The campaign is really all about shock value. It's abysmally short, as other reviews have noted. I think we are seeing a very unwanted trend of shorter and shorter campaigns in FPS in general. Developers are relying more and more on the multiplayer aspect of the game to get your "money's worth". I call it laziness, plain and simple. They know they can get away with shorter campaigns because of the big emphasis on multiplayer, and we the consumers are suffering for it. Anyways, back to the story. The plot is mix between a tom clancy novel, the bourne identity and 24, all rolled up into one steroid driven package. To say that the plot is a little chaotic is a bit like calling a tsunami a big wave: it's an understatement. It's really a shame the game isn't longer, because the plot could have been pretty decent if it had more time to develop. As it stands now, it's somewhat difficult to really follow the direction of the game. You feel like you're getting an abbreviated cliff notes on the plot, and that just doesn't settle well with me.
Multiplayer: I haven't gotten to play multiplayer yet. I will eventually, but I'm not that big on multiplayer in general, so I can't really comment on it.
Spec Ops: Some of these missions are good, and some aren't all that great. I would have preferred the developers to have extended the single player, rather than tack these missions on as an afterthought. They add value to the game, but not much more than multiplayer already delivers.
Overall, MOD2 was technically an amazing game, and fun to play through, but it ended to quickly and I'm pretty sure you need to have ADHD to be able to understand the plot. This game will sell a lot, and it already has, but the game has many flaws that you should be aware off. If you are a big multiplayer, then this game is a definite buy. If not, then consider renting.
Game is a very good shooter. Spec Ops mode is my favorite. It is a great Co-op (or single player) mode that can be quite challenging. Online play is pretty good as well. Worst part of game is online matchmaking. The game does not seem to put ranks with ranks they should be with. I am only a level 28 online but get paired against level 70s all the time. There is a huge advantage as you rank up and unlock much better weapons as well as perks. The A130 gunner is a very cool addition and does not happen too much to be annonying. Overall this is a great game for any FPS fan. I would recommend Rainbox Six Vegas 1 and 2 as well if you like the more real feeling game.
I'm a huge fan of Halo and the Call Of Duty series. This game is by far my favorite with regards to the Multi-player Slayer type game modes. The story mode is also good and overall this is my favorite FP Shooter. The hosting gliches and teaming up issues in COD World at War have been fixed in this release and that was my biggest complaint in the last WAW.
Awesome Game. Great Graphics. Too short leaves a lot of questions open towards the end. Creator's made it open for a third Modern Warfare! I suggest to play the 1st Modern Warfare before playing this one. I was a little lost with the character references until I looked them up.
Simply stated, this game is extremely fun. I'm no professional gamer, but I do play a lot of video games and I can say that if you like first person shooters, this game is for you.
Pros:
-Great graphics, better than the original Modern Warfare.
-Cool Storyline, interactive, realistic, and downright cool.
-Great Online Multiplayer, customizable classes with custom guns, perks, and killstreak rewards.
-Spec ops, great for when friends are over. Kind of like the campaign in a nutshell.
-Good campaign AI, the other characters in the campaign act like real people.
Cons:
-Campaign is short, something common among Call of Duty games.
-People cheat/mod way too much online, enough said.
-Way too addictive =P
-Doesn't clean my room for me.
All in all, this is a great game with hundreds of hours of online multiplayer play.
The expectations for this game were probably higher then any other game ever! Some people looked for the story to be more amazing then COD 4's and others (like Myself) were looking for alot more to be added on to the multiplayer. Now if you wanted a better story I can say it is good but it doesnt have the same effect as the first Modern Warfare. This one is more about the action and excitement compared to the first which led up to it and surprised you with a big epic moment! I still like the story alot but others may not.
On the other hand, the was multiplayer a lot more then I was expecting! Everything is great and will keep you playing for a very long time. The perks are the biggest change. There are so many perks to make each person unique with what they choose. Off the top of my head I cant remember the names of the perks, so I'll say what they do. They have ones for: two different weapon attatchments, not being detected on enemy radar and Restocking ammo from dead enemies. Every perk also has a pro ability which is an upgraded version of that perk and very much worth earning it. The multiplayer is also very in depth as well. Everything is at your disposal! You can upgrade anything and everything to make this experience even better. One thing that really dissapointed me was no Party Chat during alot of the multiplayer game modes. What a downer for me and Im sure for a lot of others! I usually will chat with about 4-6 friends that I have playing in the same game because We're all of either African-American or Latino descent and its a lot of racism on X-Box Live believe it or not. Hopefully there's a patch or a new game mode for party chat. Also you can't change the look of your multiplayer character. Sucks but it isnt necessary. Everything else is great though.
Last but not least is the Special Op's mode. They are short and straight to the point missions either solo or Co-op with a bud. It reminds me of Rainbow Six: Vegas Terrorist hunt or Gears of War's 2 Horde modes. They are very fun and add a lot to extend how long you were going to play this game anyways. In a nut shell, this is probably one of the best games ever for the 360 and PS3 Gen. This game is clearly a shining diamond and should be tried out be everyone. :)
I highly Recommend this game Got mine on Nov 9 at 11:50 pm.This game is the best game this year. The Campaign is great Special ops is crazy,i love this game.Everything the Critics r saying is true Believe the hype. Is it me did anyone notice 50 cent talking 4 1 of the characters. It's crazy i thought thye first MW was great but this 1 u have 2 get 2 believe me.
The Solo game sucks big time, there is no cohesion in the story, its just a mish-mash of small plots.
The Solo game is also very short.
The multiplayer plays n feels a lot like MW1, except for better textures in graphics and the death streaks.
All in all a disappointment. Thts my opinion.
They did it again!! Once again Infinity Ward has created a highly enjoyable multiplayer experience. The game itself offers three different modes: Campaign, multiplayer, and spec-ops. The Campaign mode is enjoyable, but brief. I finished the campaign on Hardened in about 5 hours. Its a short ride, but what a ride it is! My only complaint would be the manner in which the story is presented. It is told inbetween missions through a muffled conversation that is hard to understand, luckily there are subtitles, but the text goes way too fast and I usually missed about half of their conversations. Luckily the missions are challenging, engaging, and well done. The spec-ops mode is new to modern warfare, it gives you specific missions to complete solo or with a partner, in which you do everything from eliminate waves of enemies, snipe juggernauts, and defend objectives. The missions can be played on three difficulties, and by completing them on multiple difficulties allows you to earn more stars for completing such missions. The missions are quite challenging, and offer sum replayability, but once completed on all three difficulties there isn't much sense in playing them again. This mode is definetly much more enjoyable when played with a friend in a local match or online, especially an experienced player since these challenges are anything but easy. But the real 'Heart' of this game is its online multiplayer!
The Multiplayer mode is highly addictive and offers near limiless replayablity. The Maps in multiplayer are pretty varied, and each one has its own uniqueness. Modern Warfare 2 has upgraded the 'perks' in the game, giving you new options to create classes, and mix up different combinations of perks, and each perk can be upgraded, ultimately creating two perks for one. i.e. the 'commando' perk allows greater distance of melee atack, and the upgrade allows you to suffer no falling damage, so by equiping an upgraded perk you get a two for one! The weapons in this game are more accurate than in COD4, and they look better, and even the camos look nicer. Multiplayer has multiple modes to play in, from team deathmatch to capture the flag, giving you a different experience depending on your objectives. In MW2 they have added callsigns and emblems to unlock that you can assign to your profile to show off how 'cool' you are. You unlock them by completeing challenges, and gives you more desire to complete challenges, since now you are getting more than just XP. Again you can prestige, while I deem it pointless to prestige more than once ( by prestiging once you are able to unlock more challenges and ultimately get more callsigns and emblems)you can again prestige to level 10. The only thing you get by doing this is more create a class slots, I got one extra by prestiging once, and I think you can have 10 classes once you prestige 10 times, and unlike me, some people have way too much time on their hands and actually do. By prestiging you get your guns, cammos, and perks taken away, basically everything except your callsigns and emblems get reset after your prestige, and you get to start all over again! Yay! Me personally, would much rather keep killing a bunch of level 3's on their 8th prestige with my AK47, It makes me smile :) The best part is customizable killstreaks. As you level up, you are able to unlock killstreaks, and choose any three you wish. The killstreaks range from 3 kills, to 11 kills, to 25 kills for a tac nuke (which wins the game automatically), depending on your skill level you might want to have killstreaks that require less kills, since if you are unable to get an 11 killstreak, you will never get that chopper gunner you so badly want, and you are essentially wasting killstreak slots. Care packages and emergency airdrops provide players that are unable to get those higher killstreaks a chance to get an AC130 or an EMP, they offer everything from ammo, to all the killstreaks except the tac nuke. When I started I used killstreaks of 4, 5, and 6; and the better I got I now use 7, 11, and 25; so every now and then I am lucky enough to drop a nuke, which is pretty satisfying. All in all, the multiplayer is something you need to experience. Any FPS fan will love it. That said, here are my grievances with it: Noob tubers are ruining the enjoyability of online play. with a grenade launcher (AKA Noob Tuber) attatchment to an assult riffle you can be unstopable. With just about every aspect in the multiplayer you can counter by using a different class, there is nothing to counter a noob tuber. They have incredible splash damage, and when being used with the scavenger perk and damage close perk, an experienced player can be unstopable given the increased explosive damage and infinite resupply of grenades, and jus ruin your online game. The other problem I have with the game, is that no matter what mode you play on multiplayer, unless your playing with a group of your friends, don't count on much teamwork, everyone is out for themselves, trying to get killstreaks or level up, or complete challenges, even in team based modes, almost no one works together, and there isn't any incentive for people to work as a team, so it can get frustrating when your entire 'Team' is a lone wolf. Most of my other complaints have been resolved with Infinity Wards last few updates on Xbox live (suckers that own a PS3 are still waiting for the care package marker glitch and infinte care package glitch), but I really wish they would do something about the noob tubers, seems to be getting more and more of those cheap S.O.B.'s online, and in my opinion thats just not what the game is about. All that said, its still not enough to keep me from coming back for more, for another chance to take revenge on a cheap noob tuber, or repeatedlly headshot a level 3 8th prestige. This is definetely one of the best multiplayer online games out there, so if you don't have it yet, what are you waiting for, go get it!! And all you wii owners, don't expect to see the game on your platform until they release the next installment, weak I know, but thats how it is.
This game introduced many improvements over the previous Call of Duty Modern Warfare.
First, the graphics are a thousand times better. They are just stunning.
Next, they introduced in game host switching, so no more "Game Ended, Host has left game!"
They introduced several new perks, weapons, etc.
Campaign and multiplayer are both amazing.
I highly recommend this game!
While the campaign is short, the multiplayer makes up for it. Spec Ops is very fun with a friend. There are some party poopers that ruin a fun match every once and a while, but most of the time its solid gameplay.
I'll keep it short:
Yays:
- Very polished (e.g., graphics, cut scenes, voice acting).
- Good story.
- Fun to play.
- Online multiplayer is a blast.
- Maps are large and well designed.
- Love the Special Ops standalone missions (single or multiplayer).
Nays:
- Campaign was a little short for my taste.
- Would have loved more vehicle based levels.
- Needs more maps for multiplayer because they get old really quickly.
For a first person shooter, this is the best game available. If you don't have the stomach for a war game, then don't buy it. If your Xbox 360 is on its last days, then don't buy it. This game was designed for Call of Duty fans/players. If you buy the game because of hype, and never played a COD game before, you'll probably be offended by what you see and give it a one star rating. The game is rated M for a reason. War is bloody and unfair.
