This has been the busiest gaming year in recent memory. With games such as Batman: Arkham Asylum, Halo:ODST, Fallout 3 GOTY, Borderlands it would've been a great year for many a gamer. I've picked up all of the aforementioned games and I've gotta say MW2 is the best out of all of them.

I haven't been able to beat the story yet, but the first few missions are absolutly amazing. Each one was better than the last. The graphics were also revamped, and this is definitly the best looking Call of Duty game ever.

Multiplayer - Lot's of new additions, including more exp for more objectives. For example you get extra exp for killing the person who last killed you(Payback), you'll also get extra exp for stopping someone from getting a killstreak (Buzzkill), and so on and so forth. The multiplayer no longer has the perks Juggernaut and Martydom, as these were the 2 most commonly hated perks in the game. Martydom is still in the game, however as a death streak. A death streak is also something new in the game, where if you die a certain amount of times in a row without obtaining a kill, you'll temporarily gain a perk until you get a kill. Martydom requires you to die 4 times in a row, and once you finally kill someone, you'll lose it...until you die 4 times in a row again. Juggernaut has been seemingly replaced with a deathstreak of it's own called painpills. Once you die 3 times in a row, you'll spawn with extra health for the first 10 seconds after you spawn. As weak as it sounds, it's saved my life and my opponents life countless times already.

In terms of gameplay online, the multiplayer is the same as before. Kill, get objectives, etc. The weapons seem more balanced, and with the new perks, deathstreaks and addition of customizable killstreaks, it's rare to have 2 people use the exact same thing. The game has definitly gotten more tactical, and is a huge plus. The maps are gorgeous, however they all have a certain familiar scenery to them. The first time I visited certain maps "Oh, this looks like _______ from CoD4", yet are completly different, it's hard to explain, but you'll understand once you play.

From what I understand there is no co-op in campaign. This is the biggest let-down in the game. However the addition of Spec-Ops partially makes up for it. I've spent already more than 5 hours in Spec-Ops and it's truly the most fun, yet challenging thing I've ever had in a Call of Duty game. Spec-ops is only 2 player (Again, another let-down. I hope they decide to 4-player DLC soon), and throw you into situations with an objective. My personal favorite, had me as a ground soldier, and my co-op partner as the gunner for a helicopter. I had to make it from Point A to Point B so that I could get rescued. While I ran around, my partner was shooting down enemies to help clear my path. It was insane. Other missions include racing on snowmobiles, running a training course, and of course defending yourself against waves of soldiers, helicopters and Jeeps!

EDIT - Thought I'd just add a tiny bit about the Hardened edition. The artbook is amazing. It's amazing. Sorry for being repititous, but...it's amazing. I opened it and was in shock at how great the artwork looks. The steelbook case looks nice and for those who care about having special covers and boxes etc. this is the version for you. It also comes with Call of Duty Classic (XBL Arcade game, Pretty big too, I believe it was 1.5+Gigs).

This is the definitive game of the year. People have been saying for a while that it's overhyped and overrated. I'm sorry, but this game deserves all the credit it's due. It's amazing in every sense of the word. I give this game a 10/10. THE ONLY flaw in my opinion that this game has is that it does not have campaign co-op online. However the "replacement" Spec-Ops is so much more exciting and fun as a 2 player co-op.

Believe the hype. Buy it. Now.

Single player campaign is alright, I can get through it in a few hours. It's short, but fun. The game really comes to life with the online play. I can spend weeks playing the online matches and still won't be bored.

Title says it all.

Amazon had this delivered at my home the day of release, along with the $20 credit for a future game. What a deal!

For FPS peeps that haven't got it yet, what are you waiting for?!

I'm going to keep this review short and sweet and right away say Modern Warfare 2 is without a doubt 2009's game of the year and could arguably be the greatest shooter of all time. Although the campaign is a bit cramped at just around 4-6 hours, the high intensity action across all 3 game modes (campaign, multiplayer and the all-new spec ops) makes Modern Warfare 2 the most adrenaline pumping, heart racing shooter I have ever played. I guess you could say Infinity Ward brought out the big guns with this release, and have made this title an instant classic that you must experience for yourself. I picked up the hardened edition at midnight and although I wouldn't say the $80 price tag is worth the small amount of bonus content, I couldn't resist spoiling myself for the game I have been anticipating since I finished Modern Warfare on release day 2007.

I will leave a detailed review to somebody who actually has time to write one out instead of spending the time playing this unbelievable game! For now though, go get this game if you haven't already...you absolutely will NOT be let down.

Modern Warfare 2. One of the most anticipated games of all time. Infinity Ward set the bar extremely high with their first installation of COD4: Modern Warfare. Do they meet that mark, or is modern warfare 2 an overhyped money machine?

Story: Just like in other COD games, you play in the shoes of multiple people throughout the story. You play as part of the marines and task force 141. This time around you play a guy named "Roach." Mctavish from the previous game (AKA Soap) is now your CO, and you are yet again on your way to saving the world. So the story is kind of 'meh.' It's cool that you can go to all these random places all within the span of 5-6 hours, but seriously. The game seems so scattered. The storyline makes sense, as long as you don't miss anything, but I'm not sure I get everything. There are amazing action sequences and the shootouts are great. But the story could have been better.

Graphics: IW did some improvements to the COD4 engine. This game looks a lot better. There is more destructible environment doodads, enemies are more detailed, guns are amazingly detailed, lighting has made a huge improvement. The game is breathtaking in campaign mode. Looking across the ocean in a helicopter is an experience that I would like to have in real life.

Gameplay: The game plays just like COD4, but a little easier in campaign mode. they removed that 'unlimited spawn' crap. You can actually clear out an area before moving on, rather than having to run forward and taking the chance that you will get torn apart by bullets, randomly. It makes the game a lot more enjoyable, realistic and less of a grind. There are a ton more guns in the game, including machine pistols, shotguns, launchers (not just the RPG like last game), different rifles, TONS of attachments (nearly ever gun has 5-7 attachments now) with a bunch of new ones, like heartbeat monitors and thermal scopes.

Multiplayer: This game is a jewel for multiplayer. The depth that IW added to the game is amazing. There are probably 5 or 6 times more challenges to complete than in COD4. This gives you a lot of incentive to keep playing. finishing an challenge or unlocking a new attachment gives you a sense of accomplishment that makes you come back for more. The matchmaking on Xbox360 is not bad, although it can have some issues with parties and what not. Guns in quake mode seem to kill much faster in this game, than in COD4. You no longer need to pump a guy with a full clip to kill him. The game's pace feels a bit faster and there are more factions that you can play as. The maps are varied in location and you will undoubtedly find favorites (mine is the sub base). Prestige adds another dimension to the game, allowing you to reset your challenges and unlocks to get a cool emblem by your name. The newest addition to the game is emblems and titles. These unlock for finishing certain challenges and can be very cool titles. The emblems are like avatars and are unlocked in a similar fashion. Perks also have been changed around. Perks now have a normal and pro level. The pro level of the perk gives an additional benefit to the normal effect and are unlocked by doing the associated challenge. For example, stead aim increases hip fire accuracy, the pro version also gives you longer hold breath time. In this way, the perks so of merge many of the perks that were found in the last game. Finally, MW2 adds in the concept of unlockable kill streaks and the idea of deathstreaks. There are MANY more killstreaks available than in COD4. You can now call in air drops, predator missiles, AC130's and even a nuke (if you're good enough :P). It offers for some great feelings when you call in an AC130 and control the guns to kill people on the ground.

Finally, the spec ops mode. IW added in a new mode called Spec Ops. This pits you and a friend to complete isolated missions of varying difficulty. You get stars for completing them, 1 for regular, 2 for hardened and 3 for veteran difficulty. There are 69 stars total. The missions vary from evade and extract, kill all the enemies, survive along a set path, and even two missions where one player controls a gunner from overhead and the other is on the ground moving on foot. Spec Ops is loads of fun with a buddy and offers for some OH SNAP moments. You can also play by yourself, but whats the fun in that?

Overall I really am enjoying this game. I sold the COD classic code on ebay for more than it is going now (XBLA has it for $15, I sold for $20). The hardened edition has a cool picture book and the case is very sturdy and a nice addition to my game library. If you want a great fps, with action, depth and hours of fun, GET THIS GAME.

The best first-person shooter I have ever played...PERIOD! What more can I say? Hardened edition for $48 on Amazon, how can you beat that?

Amazing game! One of the best first person shooters out there! All the more fun than the last Modern Warfare!

Infinity Ward did it again, and came out with what will be the best game out there until they release the next iteration of the series. If you liked CoD4, you will love MW2.

Got this for my husband and he finished the game in a week. He said it's a very good game.

Let me start off by saying that I am a PC snob. Yes... I admit it. I prefer to do my first person gaming on the PC rather than the Xbox. I have always been a big fan of this particular franchise and originally planned to buy it on the PC (I may still do it).

In my case, I really only play the 360 in order to game with a group of friends - who all used to be PC gamers (the disloyal buggers!). So why do I mention all this? Believe or not, there is a point.

First, I know for a fact that there are many folks out there in the same boat I am. For first person gaming, the mouse is what we all want to use for looking around and aiming. If you are one of those people, you may just find that this is a first person game that you can stand - even without the mouse control. It took a relatively short amount of time to get into the groove with this game. So if you have been resisting getting any first person shooters on the xbox until now, this is a good game to test the waters with.

Next, Modern Warfare 2 falls short on the PC side. You cannot run your own server (there is apparently a hack out these days that will allow it... but its obviously not supported). You cannot create your own maps (again, there are hacks, but not supported method). The bottom line is that many of the things that made PC gaming better than xbox gaming just are not there with this title. So the only really compelling reason to buy for the PC, is to keep that mouse control.

The graphics are outstanding. Whether in story mode or playing online, the effects are great.

The maps are good, but in my opinion, they are too small. I want the kind of expansive maps we had in the Battlefield series.

The number of players on multiplayer maps is a bit small as well. Again, I am used to being able to get something like 60 players on a map in some battlefield servers. For the console, 18 players is about all your going to get. The PC side allows for more.

There are 3 different play modes. Multiplayer, story and special ops. The special ops mode allows you to work through some fun challenges with a friend in either split screen mode (with them sitting next to you sharing a screen) or online with that friend playing from their own xbox.

Some of the standouts in this game come when you are able to call in air support that you can partially control. You can get behind the guns of an apache helicopter or a C-130. Let me tell you, THAT is some big fun. There is nothing like being in a multiplayer game and being able to fire rounds on the map from a C-130! You get these abilities by surviving. The more consecutive kills you make without dying add up to give you different toys. Early on, you can get the UAV flyover or the automated turret. This escalates all the way up to being able to call in a nuclear strike - a game ender!

All in all, this is not only a good game for the xbox 360 diehard, but for the PC lover like me who is trying to find that first FPS game on the 360.

I wont bother reviewing the game itself as there are plenty of reivews up for it. Needless to say, it is phenomenal. The $20 credit on Amazon is awesome, and the main reason I buy games from Amazon.

For an additional $20 over the regular addition of the game, the Hardened Edition contains:

The game packaged in a Steelbook case with a very short, black and white manual

An art book

A card/token for a free download of the original Call of Duty

+The original Call of Duty was previously only available on PC. I havent seen a price for it yet, but I'm guessing it will sell for $15 on XBLA and PSN. There is a lengthy single player campaign, as well as 24 player multi-player. The value of the Hardened Edition completly depends on if you're interested in playing Call of Duty 1. I beat the game for PC years ago, and it's great. It will remind you of the old Medal of Honor games, and after playing it on my XBOX 360, it seems the graphics, sound effects, and the story have held up relatively well. I think most Call of Duty fans will enjoy the original and will be glad they played it.

+The art book is about 38 pages, and it's interesting. It actually has commentary from the developers at Infinity Ward, not just pictures. I am really enjoying Modern Warfare 2, so for me it was worth checking out the art book and getting some additional insight into the game. For example, it looks like Infinity Ward originally planned a motorcycle chase through the streets of Washington DC (or possibly Brazil), but it didnt make the final game.

+I love the steelbook. It is the coolest steelbook I have seen, possibly only rivaled by the Gears of War 2 steelbook in the limited edition. It combines colors like gunmetal and black, with a gold and green Modern Warfare 2 logo on the front. The picture on the front is of a soldier, kind of like the regular version of the game, but with cooler colors. The back of the Steelbook is a picture of the White House. If you have never seen a Steelbook before, it is about the same size as a normal XBOX 360 game case, but instead of plastic it is metal. The hinges are heavy duty, the inside is made of very nice and thick plastic, and the case closes perfectly. A Steelbook alone isn't enough to justify much of an additional cost to a game, but when combined with other items in a "special edition" is a cool and collectable item for fans of the game.

-The only thing I would have liked to see in addition to what is in the Hardened Edition is a dvd with some extra content. This could have included some documentary-style "making of..." videos detailing the development of Modern Warfare 2, in addition to some music, concept art, and so on. I think a dvd like that would have added much more value for your extra $20, but unfortunately is not included.

Thank you for reading!

Whether you are purchasing this because you are an offline or multiplayer gamer, or both, you won't be disappointed. Extremely fun offline campaign (the story isn't great, but it makes up for it in terms of overall entertainment) and it never lets up. It looks and sounds great and is a perfect way to show off your new home theater system.

Multiplayer is fun too but the Stimulus Package is pretty pricey ($15). Without it though, you can still expect tons of hours of additional fun as you climb the ranks towards prestige.
