This game mixes two things I love RPG & FPS into a fun as well as funny game, but where the game really shines is the 4 player co-op. Looting and fighting with or verses you friends is so much fun also it always seems to have new stuff you find. The game has its problems like the driving parts are not fun, its setup like Halo but any little thing you bump into stops the vehicle and it has invisible walls but what's worse no warning death do to borders that somehow in a open word game you suppose to just know that's the end and not to pass it or you die. Beside a few problems with the game I love it, so much fun and one of the best co-op games out now a must buy.
I can't really write anything more that other reviewers haven't already, so I'll just leave you with this little tidbit:
The other day I found a shotgun that not only had unlimited ammunition, it fired BALLS OF LIGHTNING that would ricochet around the map until slamming into something soft and fleshy before electrifying and, ultimately, melting their faces from their exploding skulls.
If that one sentance does nothing for you, then avoid this game at all costs.
where to start.. Gearbox has delivered on nearly every front possible with Borderlands. gameplay is extremely polished, a blast to play with controls similar to Call of Duty and near perfect hit detection for bullets/melee.
comparisons to Fallout 3 are inevitable given the RPG/FPS fusion in a post apocalyptic setting, but both excel in their own areas. where fallout delivers a deep RPG experience in a massive, fully explorable wasteland with some questionable gunplay - Borderlands is more shooter focused, with 4 player co op and more polish on the FPS gamplay with mild character progression/exploration. not to mention hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of guns for your arsenal. everything from damage level/rate of fire/recoil/clip size/reload speed to elemental add-ons including fire/explosive/acid/electricity/ect varies between guns. youre almost constantly finding new gear thanks to the revolutionary random content generation system based on your level.
when starting a new game you must choose 1 of 4 characters. a fast, stealthy female character - the extremely accurate sniper (deadly at long range) - the well rounded soldier character - and the tank, a beast in almost any combat situation. each character has their own advantages in battle, and a unique special attack. specials vary between a shielded turret, invisibility, an attack hawk, and berserk mode. the unique feeling of each character adds tons of replay value to an already lengthy game.
the campaign plays out similar to an open world rpg, tavelling from place to place, picking up new quests and loot along the way.
the cell shading graphics offer a unique flare not often seen in games, especially shooters. it may not have the detail of a game like Gears of War, but its got its own unigue style that looks great considering the size of the game and th amount of content.
vehicle controls are very similar to those of halo 3, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your taste.
dont get me wrong, i still hold Fallout as the best game of 2008, but if you liked the ideas behind Fallout 3 and were pushed away by the questionable gunplay or the depth of RPG character progression, Borderlands may just be the game for you. its a more accessable, more polished rethinking of the RPG/FPS fusion.
9.5/10
This game is great. I've play the RPG's and they take forever. If you want to rush through go ahead or if your like me, you want to get bigger and better guns and loot. This is a really great game and i can't wait to get the new DLC and kill some zombie midgets lol. holla
Borderlands is a great game with one big flaw: Cheaters! Single player is fun; Co-op is fun; DLC is fun. However, aside from those big upsides, you'll often find yourself in a game with a person who cheats. There are many of these people too. They use guns that don't require any reloading and fire 5 rockets with every shot. Just think of a gun that will wipe out even the toughest opponents in a few shots. That's what they use.
This ruined the game for me. I hope it doesn't ruin it for you too.
First off I'd like to say that I can't believe people write reviews before, and the day of a games release, seriously...I believe to thoroughly write a review, beat the game for heavens sake. Second, I love this game, better than Fallout 3 in my eyes, especially with the insane amount of odd-ball guns and loot. People who have downgraded the game for its cartoon-ish looks are sadly mistaken, for gearbox left the realistic view for this and I believe it's fresh and original. The only reason I gave the game an overall rating of 4 is because after making level 35, my game does not read (the disk is in perfect condition), but every single other game I own does. So for now, I wait impatiently for the Modern Warfare 2 console with the jasper chip to arrive at my door step. This game is beautiful, but if you're looking for realistic CG, stay away, but if you're looking for A WHOLE HELL OF A LOT OF FUN, this is the game for ya.
So the first time I tried this game out was at my brothers house. I only spent about five minutes playing and didn't really give it much of an opportunity. On a long weekend my brother convinced me to try it out again but for at least an hour. We played that first day and into the night for 14 hours with only bathroom breaks and one food break. I ended up finding the game here on Amazon for an awesome price and deal. I am now trying to find as much time as I can to play this game. It is one of the best games I have played with friends and family. It's a great stand a lone game, and even better to play with friends. I rarely ever rate anything with five stars, but this game has kept me wanting to come back for more. There are so many different weapons and upgrades in the game that it makes it worth while to keep checking and playing it.
I'd like to preface this review with the fact that I'm only 1/3rd of the way through the game. However, my experience with it thus far combined with discussions I've had with other gamers makes me feel that my assessment of Borderlands is accurate enough for me to write this review.
As the title of this review would suggest, if you have played Fallout 3, this game is basically the same thing with a more "comic-book" feel and a little more direct humor (as opposed to Fallout's understated, often tongue-in-cheek jokes). The atmosphere and the core of the two games are one in a same... A lone hero (or villain) out in the wastes, preforming various tasks and trying to survive. As a fan of Fallout 3, I was a bit skeptical when I first heard about Borderlands, but after several hours of gameplay, I'm having a surprising amount of fun with it.
In Borderlands the menus are often just as clunky as they are in Fallout. Often times it's difficult to navigate them efficiently and access even basic information. For example to scroll over descriptions of missions you need to use the left and right triggers instead of the D-Pad or Sticks (Who on earth thought that was a good idea during development??) Comparing weapons with one another also can be mildly confusing - each time you compare one gun with another you are shown a green up arrow or a red down arrow indicating that the compared weapons are better or worse then one another based on three criteria (reload time, accuracy and power). More then once while playing I found myself asking... "Ok are these arrows giving me stats in relation to the two guns I'm comparing, or are they in relation to the gun I currently have equipped?"
One place where the two games differ is in the leveling of enemies along with the player. In Fallout, some enemies will always be more difficult to beat then others, but defeating them is at least within the realm of possibility as the game is programed to adjust AI difficulty as you gain more levels. In Borderlands, this is not the case... there are some enemies you are simply better staying away from while you are relatively low in the totem pole. You will not beat these guys, and the AI is not adjusted to even make it feasible to *maybe* beat them. You will be destroyed plain and simple. This can be somewhat discouraging at times...
However aside from those little annoyances I do find myself itching to get back to Pandora (the planet Borderlands takes place on) as soon as I can. I don't think this game will ever win "Game of the Year" or be nominated for any kind of special awards, but it is a lot of fun and a good break from the often harsh realities of Fallout's "Capital Wastes".
Overall, three stars.
Suggestions: Buy it when it goes on sale and you won't be disappointed!
This was a fun mix of first person shooter and RPG. The animations and graphics are pretty cool. It gets more fun as you develop your action skills and get better guns. The ending was a little of a letdown, but still worth it I think. The Zombie Island add-on was cool, but I don't think it had enough missions. Overall, I'd recommend it. I killed many an hour playing this game.
this game starts out slow lot of grinding because of the RPG part but once it gets going it is a very fun game. If you play with friends communication is key.
The graphics were a fitting combination of realistic detail with a cartoon look. The stories and objectives were fun, challenging, and kept the game rolling along. The numerous guns are awesome, can't get enough guns. The whole game is just great.
Fun Game I really enjoyed it. It is very stylized and exciting. Left me playing just one more quest before I went to bed at night lol.
Defiantly a fun single player game, but the more players you have, the more exponentially fun it gets.
I can't stop playing his game! Even though I have Modern Warfare 2 sitting there I still have the most enjoyment playing Borderlands. There isn't another title like it on the XBOX 360!
I just finished this game in co-op mode a few weeks ago and it was a great ride. The four char. classes work well together and the game really shines when it's in full co-op madness.
There's tons to do in this game and plenty of DLC once you finish the main storyline. As for a rating I'd say the single player mode is fair to good and the multi is excellent not to be missed.
