Ace Combat 6 is an outstanding game andbrings all the great things about the series to a next-generation gaming console. It is based on a war between two countries, it seems as if it is between two countries like the US or UK, your country versus Russia, the enemy.
The visuals are absolutely stunning and it is able to be displayed in Full HD, 1080p. The levels are detailed and expansive. Xbox Live allows online line play and downloading additional variations of aircraft. You now have the ability to command your wingman and sometimes your forces to do things such as attack or cover.
There are many different levels of difficulty, so that both a new gamer and a competitive professional can have fun. The game is intentionally single player; however, you can play cooperatively over Xbox Live.
One thing that is dissapointing compared to the previous games is that it only has 15-20 aircraft types. However, the ones that are included are fantasic and very popular. The only opposistion to this game is Tom Clancy's HAWX, which is horribly nonrealistic and has low quality graphics.
There is a reason that this game is a platinum hit; it is because it is an overall excellent game!!
I have played all the Ace Combat series game and this is by far the best yet. It's graphics on the XBox 360 are amazing first off and I have have the pleasure of flying on a 50" plasma which is just the best. You can save your favorite replays of missions. The missions themselves are much more interesting in that many of them have multiple operations going on at the same time and by accomplishing mission objectives you can call upon allies to help out in defense or attacks with you. The story line is good and I'm playing it through a second time now trying to win various medals I didn't achieve the first time through. Stategy and choosing the right plane and weapons is important for success although there is also a medal for keeping the same plane throughout the entire campaigne for which I have chosen the Raptor as my plane of choice. If you love Ace Combat you won't be disappointed with Ace Combat 6.
So, the ACE series finally comes to the next generation. It has been a long wait, that in my opinion was worth it.
My favorite part of the whole game so far ( I am still playing it) is the abality to call for either Allied Attacks or Allied Cover. As in the past it would always be up to you to take out everthing either land, sea, or air. Now you actually get help. And they actually take out stuff or cover you if you are getting fired at.
The planes are the same as all of the other Ace Combat games, graphically they are sharper but nothing new. I will say that your planes are now more equiped with a huge payload of special weapons and regular missles, not the case in the old games. If you run out of ammo you can go back to the base and restock up, which was not the case in AC5. I am glad they brought that one back.
Missions are alot better than before, here you actually get to fight for longer than five minutes, I would say on average the missions last anywhere from 20-30 minutes, I am only on mission 10 so I dont know how many missions the game has.
Graphics are much imporved from the old series. When your plane gets hit by a bullet for example a little amber will be burning where you got hit for a moment, then it smolders out. Explosions are awesome, and the terrain looks pretty real.
As a fan of the series I am very happy, and I can see for me, this game will have a good replay value to it.
Story line, what can I say it's Ace Combat they have never been known for a great storyline, they could have done alot more with this, I thought they would seeing how it's next gen and all.
It is so good I can not pull my 13 year old son away from XBOX!!!
i have always enjoyed all the ace combats. This one has a bit of a cheesy story and seems a bit short (finished it in 3 days when i was home sick) but is as good as ever. i actually have an xbox360 with only this game. I will continue to replay this for a long time. i wish they would release it for PS3 though because the membership for xbox live for a family household is ridiculous.
I cannot say enough about this game! After not having flown flight sims for many years, I bought this for the low price ($28) they are selling for now and was very pleasantly surprised! The story-line in the game is engrossing and I couldn't wait after each mission to see the next part in the series. Some have expressed the opinion that the acting is bad, wooden, etc but I thought it added so much to game and really pulled me in. I felt as though I was actually helping free Gracemeria in each mission.
Unlike some of the PC flight sims I flew before, this requires only to go through the tutorials to get you ready for flight and combat. Each mission is detailed out for you and then it's off to the hanger to purchase/pick your plane. Each have different strengths and weaknesses and it was fun using the different planes for the different mission types.
The single player mode is excellent, I can't say enough about it. The multi-player mode was a little tricky to start as the manual didn't cover enough of the details but after a few tries, my brother and I were having a blast on the co-op missions over Xbox Live. Real team-work (one flying an air-2-air platform covering for the other flying a slow air-2-ground platform)was required for some of these missions.
Buy Ace Combat 6, you won't be disappointed!
This game is a very good game for a few reasons. The first reason is the graphics, I cant believe the graphics on this game it looks so real (especially the airplanes). Second reason is the game play, The missions vary so you never do the same thing over again. The third and final reason is story, the story makes sense and it is understandable.
There is only one con to the game but it isn't a big one the dialog is stupid and corny but i don't play games for the dialog so it doesn't matter.
I didn't play the previous versions of the game, I started with 6. It is a BLAST. The planes are cool and the fighting is FUN. The graphics are AMAZING. I don't understand some of the other negative reviews. Yes the cut scenes are silly but they have a certain melodramatic humor to them, and we buy video games for the game play, not the cut scenes.
I needed something good after BioShock, it took me a while to find this game and now that I have I'm digging my Xbox again.
GO ACE COMBAT 6!
The controls are semi-intuitive, and the only thing the tutorials taught me that I didn't get from playing the first mission was "yaw" (a useful trick for when you're out of missiles and need to take out a few more targets with your machine gun, if you want a small gameplay tip), though the button to switch between secondary and special weapons is a bit awkwardly placed (the "back" button, or "select" for most people), but even then you grow used to it.
The plot is just horrid, and the only reason I didn't skip the cutscenes is guilt. Before purchasing this game, I read several reviews (on amazon and otherwise), and one stated "If this game has 500 lines of dialogue in it, then about 495 of those lines have to do with 'dancing with the angels'.". I naturally assumed this was an exaggeration, as do you, and I was right, but barely.
The gameplay itself is fun, though the difficulty curve might make some amateur gamers have difficulty on the third-fifth missions, at which point the difficulty stabilizes more. If achievements matter to you: The achievements range from some that are just ridiculously easy (e.g.: For each mission, there is an achievement for beating it), to the insanely difficult (beat the entire campaign without using missiles or special weapons).
The AI is reasonably smart, though my wingman at times seemed to serve little purpose, other than telling me what the red lights, sirens, and text warning already had (Missile Incoming!), and occasionally doing so twice (or more!) for the same missile. Regardless of if you play in the 3rd person view, 1st person w/o cockpit, or cockpit view, you'll feel like you actually are flying a fighter jet (or at least, you'll feel like you imagine you would if you flew a fighter jet). I personally play in the cockpit view, and have to say there is nothing in a game that can help achieve immersion quicker than turning left to watch a missile streak past your wing.
The handling in game is... Functional. It's not realistic, but it's fun. You can make sharper turns, go faster, be more acrobatic, etc. than you could in real life.
Now for the last point: Graphics. It's my personal opinion that graphics-wise, games really have reached a plateau, in that, though graphics can still improve, human eyesight won't be able to tell they have. The back of the box boasts of "photorealistic" scenery, and this is true... To an extent. When you're high up, the clouds look real, the contrails look real, and the ground streaking past you from below looks amazing. But if you are close to the ground, you'll notice that almost all details are "flat". Images of trees that looked just like you'd expect them to from 20000 feet from up above look like a map that you've pressed your face to from a thousand feet or so.
In short: If you want fun, buy this game, if you want immersion in the battles, get it. If you want a plot, look elsewhere.
This game is the best of the series - pretty much. Only a couple of things I didn't like. The main thing was the motto was, "go dance with the angels", although in the previous games you were known as the Demon Lord or the Demons of Razgrize (?) but that's just me. Another thing - I didn't like the side stories, they were like a drama and they didn't exactly fit with the rest of the plot.
The game is very good the online game playing is not that great but other than that its a great game overall
Excelent Game... I love to play war flight games and I think this is one of the best games I've ever played.
This is the only fighter simulation I played since Wing Commander (I know that I'm dating myself). Simple enough at novice difficulty to play through the entire game without getting frustrated. Difficult enough at higher setting and missions to compel replaying without becoming a grinding chore.
Pro: feels realistic with good learning curve.
Con: storyline is a bit contrived. Seriously, a place called "Gracemeria"? However, this is not why I bought this game for.
Tip: playing the same mission with different aircraft makes the mission feel entirely new. Using the "worst" plane on the last level was actually a lot easier for me than the "best" plane - go figure.
ok to begin with i bought ace cobat zero then 5 and now six. five has about fifty planes wich rocks and the storyline was good. zero has the aces and better graphics and some cooler looking planes than five. but six... well it doesn't have a lot of planes (about seventeen or so) but it does have aces that put up a struggle. and ace combat six definetely has the graphics and style to keep the franchise going. but it seems like the storyline is where they really Failed. i know how everyone says the storylines in five and six were lame but i liked them, but this one... well i would have preffered flying missions just because your ordered to over the weak storyline this one has. i can't really explain it but the storyline mostly follows you (the pilot) your wife and an officer of the enemy country who was once a pilot and was grounded because of an injury. the overall and annoying saying in AC6 is "dance with the angels" yeah it gets annoying because everyone says it a lot. anyway enough ranting. the gameplay looks good, the planes fly well, and there is enough missions. each mission may have around 4 or so areas to pay attention to. with you having to help ground forces spread over vast mountain ranges or seaside beches, fight off enemy planes, shoot down UAV's, and avoid missiles being fired from outside the battlefield, all at once. and on top of that this ace combat has the A-10 so it's practically a winner in my book. hey the A-10 is for close air support and i believe we should try to make sure that as many troops as possible make it home. yes even in a video game its great, not fast (top speed just over 400) but hey with fuel/air bombs and about the biggest machine gun you can find on any 1 pilot aircraft (30mm firing larger than normal 30mm rounds).
This is a great game, but the story is simple, too simple. The plot is sometimes touching, but mostly plain.
The graphic is fantastic. I'll recommend to get a widescreen LCD, the graphic detail will look amazing.
