First, I liked the idea of the splitter to use as a second pedal for dual base that can be used for both games. This was my only reason for wanting this, as both my RB2 pedal and my GHWT pedal is in fine condition after much use.
The problem with this product is that when the splitter is used, pressing the secondary pedal in the down position between notes restricts the other pedal from registering. Therefore, you must have both pedals in the unpressed position for the opposite one to register. This causes fatique quickly for the leg that is not in use as you constantly must have the pedal in the up position.
The second problem I had with this pedal is that it had to be released about 75% upwards after pressing it down to register the next hit. So for quick base notes, you almost have to raise your foot up and down the entire full range of the pedal to register the next note. Basically you have to work a heck of alot harder than you should. My original pedals register notes just barely bringing your foot back up from the down position. The only thing I liked about this pedal was the width.
So for me this product failed on both fronts. After an hour of trying different things, I went back to my orignal drum pedals and it instantly felt much better. I put this in the closet and will only keep it for temporary use between original drum pedals if they should ever break.
My Rock Band 2 kick pedal had broke completely in half (what I get for buying a used kit), so I decided to buy this pedal at my local Best Buy. At first, I was only slightly disappointed it didn't come with the splitter that it said it came with. No biggie, I already owned a splitter.
I set the pedal up and was all ready to zip away on some Rock Band 2. Immediately, the kick pedal didn't respond at all. I went to Freestyle mode and played with the switch. Each time I switched modes, it responded as if I had hit the pedal. Still though, even as I pound the pedal it does nothing.
Angrily I call Nyko, and to make a long story short, the guy said it was basically defective and to exchange it for another one. NO WAY! I exchanged it for the Block Head Rhythm Maker Professional Drum Pedal. I wish that pedal was available on Amazon, I'd write a glowing review for that pedal.
This one's a waste of perfectly good money. If you need a new pedal, go with the Block Head pedal. It may be $32 but it's way better than this piece of junk.
This was a purchased for my son, I asked him how he like the drum pedal and his response was that he really like it and it seems to be a little bit more better than the one that came with guitar hero.
This product is an excellent repalcement or an additional drum pedal for playing the Metallica Guitar Hero game. The pedal is much sturdier than the one that comes with the drum set and it is much more sensitive to the touch. Works Great!!!
This pedal is awesome! Just received from Amazon and i started playing and wow does it work great! I have both the Rockband and The Guitar hero Drum sets and it is better than both of them by tenfold.[...]
This was a replacement peddle for guitar hero world tour. It actually works a whole lot better than the one that came with the game. It's bulkier that the original so you don't feel like your going to break it easy. The only gripe is that the cord is shorter than I like but thats just a minor gripe. This is a must by for any guitar hero or rock band player.
this pedal its amazing!!! You can improve your movements with this pedal! and the performance its so cool!
I got this pedal for the Xbox 360 after buying a used GH:WT drum kit and having the stock pedal fail epically. It was way too sensitive and the USB/Midi cable tuning method didn't work. So I started to do some research on good pedals to use as replacements.
Apparently there are a lot of people that use real bass kicks from actual drum kits combined with a practice pad. I for one do not have the money or the patience to put that setup together, although I'll admit it'd be cool. This was one of the only other alternatives that I could find that was compatible between both RB1+2 and GH:WT kits.
The low ratings around the net made me a bit skiddish, but it was my only hope to play drums on expert ever again in a normal fashion. So I bought this pedal and how I've improved! Not that I'm a retarded carrot and this magically made me better, but the response this pedal provides is miles above and beyond the stock GH pedal.
It has a switch on the cord that allows you to change from RB to GH (depending on which kit you've plugged it into) and it has the little, uh, notch thingys to set it on the crossbars of the RB kit for placement. There are rubber grip dots on the bottom to provide added friction on surfaces like linoleum and whatnot. The functionality of the pedal itself is a combo of both pedals. It uses the magnetic sensor for RB and the piezo-whatcha-ma-bob for GH and is constructed just like the two of them got mashed together. The contact post for the GH part is flat and has a little rubber thingy on it to help maintain flat and motionless contact too. (Smart move. Nyko 1 - Activision/RedOctane 0)
It does bounce a little and move during the more kick crazy songs, though that could just be the way I play. The pedal is wider and feels steadier than both the GH:WT and RB kicks and is also a little quieter, even with the harder thumps, but that could be just my opinion.
All in all, I couldn't find much at all to complain about with this product. Most of the time Nyko makes some seemingly disposable crap, but this feels and performs incredibly sturdy. I would recommend this pedal over any other for both RB and GH:WT replacement pedals any day.
This pedal works wonders. I use this pedal for rock band 1 & 2 and it is alot easir to press down. My original footpedal broke so i decided to try this one. This pedal has increased my scores for every song. I can now beat songs like panick attack with 92%. I would of bought this pedal even with out mine breaking.
I bought this pedal the other day hoping it would replace the pedal I just broke, but took it home and opened the box and it didn't look nearly as sturdy as I thought it was going to be.
But then I plugged it in and tried to use it and to my shock it didn't register at all when I tried it. I fiddled with the cord a little bit and it started going rapid fire every time I put my foot down (just as useless), but when I let go of the cord it continued to not function. It seems most other people have had similar problems.
Enough said! I took it back to the store I bought it from and got my money back.
I purchased the Nyko Metal pedal to replace my GHWT pedal. I had already broken one GHWT pedal, and my current one was showing signs of wear, so I decided to go ahead and purchase this pedal to see if it was any better than the stock pedal.
My first impression out of the box was that the pedal feels nice and sturdy. It feels like this pedal will stand up to a bit of abuse. Unfortunately, that is really this pedals only good point.
After receiving the pedal I plugged it in and started playing, my scores were noticeably lower than they were when using the stock GHWT pedal. I thought maybe I just need to get used to it, so I spent the last two weeks using this pedal in order to form a solid opinion: This thing is no good.
One problem with this pedal is that the spring has very little tension, and there is no way to adjust it. Due to this lack of resistance the pedal has no "Bounce". You press it down, and you practically have to lift your foot completely in order for the pedal to come back up. This makes fast kick notes extremely difficult.
Another problem with this pedal is that if you have carpeted floors this pedal will slide around everywhere. There is nothing on this pedal to give it good surface friction on carpet. You can add a PVC cross-bean to your drum set to hook this pedal on and keep it more secure, but you then lose the ability to place the pedal wherever is most comfortable.
Lastly, the response of the pedal leaves something to be desired. Songs with fast kicks or double-kicks are practically impossible to keep combo going. It seems to work okay on songs that don't have a lot of kick, but even then the pedal seems to drop notes occasionally (maybe a 3% drop note rate).
Connecting this pedal and the GHWT pedal in double-bass configuration does not work. Drops notes like crazy when set up like this.
After a couple of weeks I decided to switch back to my stock GHWT pedal(with some modifications to hopefully keep it from breaking). My scores were immediately higher again. I can keep combo on fast songs without problem.
If you are looking for an improvement to the stock GHWT pedal, this pedal is not what you are looking for.
I finally received the Nyko Metal Pedal (NMP), and put it through a quick test on both Rock Band 2 (RB2) and Guitar Hero World Tour (GHWT) on my Xbox 360.
As far as video game drum controllers go, I have the Rock Band, GHWT, RB2, and even the Rock Revolution controllers.
My first RB1 pedal cracked into two pieces. My second RB1 pedal developed a similar crack, and I purchased the Blockhead Hit Kit for its replacement pedal. My first GHWT pedal went defective as well. (My RB2 pedal has since replaced the Blockhead pedal, and is going strong.)
The NMP seems like the Rock Band 2 pedal design, super-sized. Both the base and the pedal itself are wider, but the overall design is similar. I prefer the larger size, as opposed to the Blockhead Hit Kit's smaller pedal.
In addition, for GHWT, you finally have a pedal that doesn't move during gameplay or tilt from side to side.
Also included is a dual pedal adapter, which is basically a splitter for the input jack. The NMP + RB2 pedal seemed to work fine for me in RB2. However, the NMP + GHWT pedal did not; the NMP would not always register. As soon as the GHWT pedal was removed from the splitter, the NMP would register every time. Perhaps on GHWT, you need two NMPs for it to work properly.
I'm not a fan of the art design, but it's under your foot all the time so who cares!
Pros:
* Like a super-size version of the Rock Band 2 pedal (that's a good thing)
* Includes a splitter for double bass pedals
Cons:
* Double pedal doesn't seem to work with NMP + GHWT pedal combo
Bottom Line:
You need this if you have a cracked pedal OR you want a Rock Band 2-style pedal for use with Guitar Hero World Tour.
Before purchase this pedal I have read the Customer Reviews, as has been noted here: "the response of the pedal leaves something to be desired. Songs with fast kicks or double-kicks are practically impossible to keep combo going. It seems to work okay on songs that don't have a lot of kick, but even then the pedal seems to drop notes occasionally (maybe a 3% drop note rate)."
Reason of this effect is that pedal has a magnets with a very strong field of scattering. As a results magnetic sensor triggered on the halfway between the upper and lower points of the pedal movement -- instead lower point.
For improving response you should remove one of these 2 magnets - which will reduce strength of magnetic field twice. It's very easy: (look at customer images)
1) Remove the red short metal axis on the back side and release the moving part of pedal.
2) Unscrew two screw on the top side of moving part of pedal, remove plastic panel.
3) You will see the two little disc of magnets--remove one of these (this will require some force).
4) Fill the space from both side of magnet with piece of paper (for fixing magnet)
5) Assemble the pedal - enjoy.
This "upgrade" applies just for RB2 mode -- GHWT used piezo sensor.
Also there is preferably to replace the spring on a stronger (with more tension)
P.S. By the way I use this pedal (besides RB2) with... Korg nanoPAD USB Drum Controller!!! For this purpose I have built drum pedal controller from... USB PC keyboard! but this is a quite another story ...
The first review is a lie. Amazon never shipped this item. I ordered it in January and waited a month for it to ship, then received an email that the pedal was unavailable. I was to be notified when it became available. Now it has a price and you can order it, but it has a 1-2 month shipping estimate. It releases in-store March 23, so buy it then. Amazon is usually good, but this was a rookie move.
I recommend this only if you can't find a better product. It doesn't work correctly half of the time. I can play a song that I used to perform at 99% with my actual guitar hero kick pedal, and with this pedal I am lucky to hit 93%. I know that is picky, but when I buy something I expect it to work. I am also a perfectionist, so I hate screw-ups, and this product does that a lot. So, if you can't find the original pedal somewhere (or perhaps even a great after-market pedal), then buy this as a last resort. However, I can't complain about Amazon, because they were very quick in getting this product shipped to me. I still highly recommend Amazon when purchasing anything directly from Amazon.
