I'm a Biggest Loser fan, so I thought I could do this and follow along with the TV show. The workout selections are good, but I have problems with:
-Setting up - you don't get a chance to preview exercises or programs to get a sense of them, or plan what you're going to do. Data saving isues as others have mentioned
-Navigation - once you're in an exercise or program there's no way to pause, stop go back or modify. I just stopped working out and watched "Bob" go to the end, and then finally was able to get back to the beginning. I didn't want to press Home or Power on my Wii remote as I was afraid I'd lose my data.
- Exercises/Exercise Routines - very little instruction. I tried Yoga with Bob and it just launched without any instruction as to stance or form. I know I was doing some of the poses wrong, but the programmed feedback said I was doing it correctly.
Wii Fit Plus is much better at instructing you on things like Yoga poses and how to do other activities. The navigation is better in most respects and your data saving options are clearer. I also like that it uses your own Mii character and tracks its progress vs. choosing a Biggest Loser contestant to represent you. I like and would recommend the Biggest Loser DVD's before the Biggest Loser Wii program.
This is a game for people who are really out of shape
It goes two slowtalks toomuch and has slow exercises
I ended upby returning it
I would have liked to see what is in the program before making the purchase
I have used Bob Harper's and Jillian Michael's workout DVDs in the past, but I didn't expect this game to be a rehashing of those. It's pretty much the same moves that Bob always does which are effective but boring. And when you make a workout longer instead of adding new exercises it makes you repeat the same circuit until you reach the time you set on the workout.
The fitness program is annoying because it's like virtual Biggest Loser except you play like a previous contestant and you can fast forward through any of it. I just find it time consuming and pointless having been exercising and health conscious for so many years.
I can see how this game would be good for someone with little or no fitness or health education or experience. Great basic info, but if you've ever been down this road I would say move on and find another game.
Based on the amazon reviews, this sounded like a fun product and a good workout. After using it once, I already have 3 major problems with it.
1. It is quite hard to move the Wii remote arrow around the screen. It seems to move way too fast/far with a small movement of my wrist. When I'm trying to select OK, or to adjust my weight loss goal on the screen or select a day on the calendar, it makes it hard to get the arrow in the exact right place and hold it there long enough to press "A." This is such a basic part of the interface that you'd use each time you play, so it was quite frustrating. I have Wii Fit and several other Wii games and have never had that problem.
2. The user interface does not seem as intuitive as I'd hoped. It says you can change your work out schedule to determine your own off days. It was initially set up so that my first workout was Saturday and Sunday was an off day and then I work out the next few days in a row. I wanted to change it so that Sunday was the 2nd workout and Monday was an off day. It wouldn't let me do this. I could have moved the first workout to Sunday, but not the second. It was confusing & there was no tutorial or anything to explain how this process works. Maybe now that I've done the first workout it will let me move the 2nd workout to today (Sunday). We'll see.
3. The cuing was awful. I have been doing workout DVDs since I was 12 and have had Wii Fit for a year. I was expecting more pointers on form (especially because it's harder to tell what the cartoon Bob & Michelle Aguilar were doing vs. a real person in a video) and some kind of vocal cue before starting a new exercise. Well sometimes I'm on the ground facing left for a plank pose (I don't have room to face forward based on my living room configuration) and not looking at the screen straight ahead. Several times they had started the next exercise without me knowing and I lost "points" for that exercise because there was no vocal cue. I have done some workout DVDs where there's a visual cue--maybe a small flashing sign like "up next squats." No such thing on the Biggest Loser Wii game.
All of this being said, the workout was pretty solid and that's why I gave it two stars. I did the intermediate level and it was the perfect challenge. Some stuff was easy for me to complete and some I couldn't quite do all the reps. I did have a light sweat going on the whole time. But am I really going to be motivated to play this game when I have many other options that are equally good workouts with none of the frustrations? We'll see, but I'm skeptical.
I got this game for Christmas. I put in the game at least once a week to give it yet another try and I just can't get myself excited about the workouts or this game. I find other workouts either on DVD, or other Wii games: Walk it Out!! and Wii Fit(Plus) just more fun, and more rewarding. I find the Biggest Loser game discouraging. After completing a 30 minute moderate level routine according to the game I only burned 50 calories. That just doesn't seem accurate for 25 minutes. I find the comments by Bob and Jillian repetitive and don't go along with the exercises. There isn't any physical change in the characters selected and they don't match my body type. I have tried to like this game but I find the exercises boring; the circuits uninspiring and there isn't any great motivation while playing the game. The exercises are the general calistestics from gym classes; knee bends, squats, mountain climbers, marching in place and other variations. The muscles in the body are worked hard and I am sore the next day but I just find the workouts discouraging. It doesn't inspire me to keep coming back to play again.
This game could be given a "pass" if you aren't expecting too much and you just need something that'll make you move and burn some calories.
But if you want fun and variation and serious workouts, I'm afraid this game can't hold a candle to EA's "Active".
I did a lot of research before I chose this game, and a lot of the reviews had good things to say about it.
The workout itself was ok--but many older games (like yourself fitness) have the ability to get easier or harder as you do it to adjust to your needs. That would have been a plus.
I really didn't like that you can't use your own name. I'm ok with playing as a contestant, but when I did my weigh in it showed the contestant's weight, not mine. Really discouraging to see a number 70 pounds or more higher than my actual weight. I lost over 3 pounds, which is amazing--but my character was disappointed and almost booted off the game. Also discouraging.
I find most of the recipie information to be kind of useless, I haven't had a game where I use that feature. I wish they'd spent that time developing the actual game, graphics, and personalization ability.
The calorie input tool was difficult to use, and increased or decreased by 1. Really, 25 would have been close enough for the use of the game and would have made it less frustrating.
Nothing against the Biggest Loser--getting the game got me hooked on watching the show, and it is fun to work out to. For me though, the game, the challenge part of it was what I was excited for and it just wasn't personal enough to be fun in that way.
I've never written a review before, but this game is so terrible, I just had to try to warn others to stay away! I just received this game yesterday. I used it for about 10 minutes then threw it away. This is a complete waste of money!!! The idea behind the game is good, but the execution is terrible. Problems include:
- needing a ton of room! In order to do plank, side lunges, and triceps dips, you need tons of room all the way around the balance board. If you don't have the room, you'll have to keep repositioning the board something you don't have enough time to do, and if you do have enough time, when you move the board, the game may think you are ready to go.
- constantly needing to move the remote from one pocket to the other...and what if you don't have pockets?
- inaccurate weigh-ins. WiiFit is mostly accurate when weighing in, but the Biggest Loser game shows a different number!!
- need to constantly look at the screen. What others have said about the exercise changing with no notice is exactly correct. It is very difficult to keep up with the game. The Biggest Loser workouts are challenging, but at least with the videos, you have someone talking you through things when you are supposed to me looking down. This problem coupled with the need to move the balance board, and continue to change the remote, makes this game worthless to me. I spent more time moving things around than I did working out.
- the game doesn't tell you what you are doing wrong, and many times will tell you that you are doing well even if you aren't doing anything!! If you aren't doing a motion correctly, the game won't register it...but there is no feedback to tell you what you need to correct, or at least what kind of motion the balance board is looking for.
This game is a work out, but the frustrations associated with it aren't worth it's $50+ cost. STAY AWAY!!! If you really want the Biggest Loser kind of experience, get a video instead. You could get two for the price of this awful game.
purchased the game, i love the show and i need an exercise program. i use wii active and wii fit plus regularly so i'm familiar with the video exercise games.
this game sucks!!! there is no instruction at all. can barely read the bottom, the booklet does not explain how to use the game. it's so bad that i don't even want to spend time writing a detailed review. if you want to exercise and get an excellent workout, try wii active or wii active more workouts!
My mother who is an over weight diabetic bought this game and I did it with her over the weekend. But what we discovered was that things are as they appear. What do I mean, well we picked the option to enable the balance board with the game. But as my mom got tired and sat down, the game kept going, kept giving her calorie burns and kept counting as if she were still doing the game even though she wasn't doing anything not even moving the remote. So if you play it as if you were watching a DVD it is a really good work out but doing it and thinking that it is acknowledging your moves is another. Also once you start a session you can not stop without loosing all of the work you have done. And even the easiest work out is a lot for someone who is really over weight. There were somethings I couldn't even do and I am 36 yrs old and 35lbs over weight, and hike on the weekends. So my mother had a really hard time with it.
The price of this game goes higher and lower every couple of weeks. It's worth the lower price, but not the higher price. The workouts require a lot of space to play with the balance board, so I usually choose my own routine with the space I have.
The reason I say pay the low price is strictly for the challenges. The challenges are FUN, give you a great workout, and make you feel like you're somewhere else. The challenges don't require a lot of space, or the Wii Balance Board. My favorite challenge is the the Light Cycle, which is essentially running while moving your Wiimote the same time as your trainer. The video shows your character in a gym riding a stationary bike. Also, I really enjoy the Hangwire challenge. The video is your character over a pool climbing across the length of a pool. In this challenge, you're using your upper body strength to move your arms at the same time as your trainer. Mountain Climbers require you to keep your Wiimote in your hand and simulate climbing a mountain. Wood chops, the other exercise in the Hangwire challenge requires you to move your arms across your body, simulating chopping a tree down. It's all about timing also. Too fast or too slow and you lose the challenge. After you complete the challenge, you move up in rank. You start off in 7th or 8th place, and you have to move your body exactly when your trainer does. If you're last, you are eliminated and you're the biggest loser. See, I'm telling you the challenges are FUN!
After the challenge, you'll have the option of cooling down with stretches and yoga poses. I usually do this. It's very relaxing! I'd even bet it's better than the new Yoga game for Wii.
I'm about to get rid of this game but I wanted to write a very honest review. I have been a big exer-gamer, and I've lost about 40 lbs so far just by using my Wii, adjusting my diet and going on cardio walks. So I wanted something new having used a bunch of other games. I had my eye on Biggest Loser for a long while, and thought about buying it, so when it went down in price on here, I caved.
Upon starting it, I was excited to see the variety of exercises. I did a full week, doing all of the suggested workouts...when I discovered my first beef.
The calorie count was SUPER LOW. I know this has been mentioned in other reviews, but let me tell you, the counter is WAY inaccurate, and unless you have an expensive monitor, you have no way of really knowing what kind of workout you are getting. The game uses the Wii mote to do a simple point check to see if your arm is moving or in a position, but it doesn't have the accuracy of EA Active. So I'd workout for 30 minutes, be soaking wet and the game would tell me I burned 60 calories. Excuse me?
On top of the fact that the calorie counter is completely inaccurate, you have the fact that there is zero guidance in if you are in the right form for exercises. I'd be doing the Mountain Climber exercise, and the game would not credit that I was actually doing them, despite me flailing my arms. And other than watching Bob or Jillian, is there any kind of directional video on how to do the exercise? NOPE! So you often will be doing an exercise and the game will not even tell you if you are in the right form, and even if you think you are, the Wiimote may be off at an odd angle, thus not registering it, making the calorie counter even LOWER.
The icing on the cake was today, when I got a phone call. I put the Wiimote down to answer it, and decided to let the exercise go on. And it did, without me being there. I know I could have hit the home button, but it really annoyed me that the game could care less if its player is actually playing! The best part was that it gave me credit for doing some exercises I wasn't even present for. Unless this game drops price, spend the money on an exercise DVD. This game is a great idea, but the implementation leaves MUCH to be desired.
there are so many negatives for this game... 1) no personalization; 2) you pay good money for the game and bust your butt working out, and you can still get voted off...you're the only one playing- how can you get voted off your own game?!?!; 3) workout clothes are not ideal for pockets (the game tells you to put the wiimote in your pocket for a lot of the exercises); 4) there's no music; 5) jillian isn't involved enough; 6) same 5 phrases by both trainers... the list goes on...
while it's fine for just working out, you can do that on your own without paying for this nonsense...
My husband and I are doing a Biggest Loser contest with each other. We bought this game because it advertised that you could compete against friends. Nowhere can you weigh against each other. You don't get to be "you" but have to choose a contestant who has actually been on the show to represent you. When you weigh, there is no hype like on the show. It just shows you the amount lost then does the beeping of it going through different numbers before showing it on the scale....but you already know the loss before this! You aren't allowed to weigh until you do a last chance workout challenge. I have only played this 2 or 3 times because it is such a disappointment. To think I wasted $40 on it.
I'm no fitness guru, but I am well versed in fitness video games, my wife is trying to lose weight, and this "Game" doesn't cut it. I watched her do the exercises and at one point she stopped to adjust something and Bob (The Trainer) just kept right on going like she wasn't even there. She could have watched her character finish off the reps and gotten credit for losing the calories. C'mon people, is that what it's really about? At least with EA active you get a stern talking to if you can't keep up and worse if you're working out with a friend and stop, that woman on Active will let you know that the other player is smoking you.
With so many games out there this one isn't worth getting, especially if you're serious about losing weight. My wife has mixed up the wii fit plus with a healthy dose of EA Active (And More Active work-outs) and combined that with a balanced diet and she's lost 15lbs in three weeks. If you just want to have fun, go for this game, if you want a serious work-out, avoid this one.
