To paraphrase Alfred North Whitehead, all 3D platformers are but footnotes to Super Mario 64. With Super Mario Galaxy, Nintendo tries to reinvent the genre it defined.
"Galaxy" looks great; fantastic graphics leave future developers no room to blame sloppy visuals on hardware limitations. The game's structure involves multiple hubs from which players go to different worlds ("galaxies") where they complete missions to earn stars. The missions are brief (rarely longer than 15 minutes or so), but this conciseness is achieved through a sharp focus on objectives. Many of the tasks play out in a linear fashion as the mission keeps Mario on a particular path from one planetoid to the next until he reaches his goal. This may feel constraining to those who wish they could explore a given galaxy at will.
Besides the new gameplay, Mario now finds himself right-side up, upside-down, and sideways relative to your television screen. Though an interesting concept, sometimes-counterintuitive joystick controls make the experience more cumbersome than it should be. In addition, the computer-controlled camera restricts the field of view such that looking around an area for something particular (switches, coins, even oncoming enemies) can be next to impossible--perhaps the game's one genuine design flaw.
Super Mario Galaxy somewhat lacks the pick-up-and-play simplicity that characterized Mario 64, but there is still much to appeal to players who appreciate the gameplay style and are willing to master the niceties of controlling Mario in his new intergalactic environment. "Galaxy" is a deft demonstration of the Wii's potential and worth a look for system owners.

Mario is Nintends most iconic charater and the charater most often thought of when some one say nintendo. A Mario game is usually shipped out with the new nintendo console but this one came a year after the launch of the wii and was worth the wait.
Story: Mario is delivered a letter to Mario from Peach inviting him to the star festival. A usual Bowser shows up and kidnapps peach and it's up to Mario to save her. There's more to the story really but it doesn't matter. If your looking for deeply involving story with substance and sub plots read "Lord Of The Flies" or Play "Final fantasy VII". The story in Mario games is the same as the "Die Hard" series, a thinly veiled excuse for our hero to jump into action and do what they do best.
Graphics: This is the wii so the graphics aren't as powerfula as the PS3 or XBOX 360 bu there great for the game. Everything is bright and colorful and cartoon like suiting the games enviroment. You'll find yourself loving the simple and straight foward designs of the levels and enemies.
Music: The soundtrack is great. So much so I wish Itunes had it aviable for download. The remixes of old songs and new orchestral pieces that fit each enviroment. Grand for levels that have you passing throught large area and slow and spooky for ghost levels.
Gameplay:The controls are great and spot on. Most of the cotrols are the same as from Super Mario 64. you have the jump, double jump, triple jump, side jump, long jump, wall jump(Now improved since when you hit a wall you hang on and slide dow it so you don't have to be absoultley perfect when you do it." the only changes are your 3 punch combo been replaced by a spin attack and the wii-mote is used to collect star bits and shoot the as an alternative form of attack. The game slowly introduces to the diffrent game mechanics so you'll master on ebefore you get another to learn. there's plenty of mission variety so you'll nevr go "I did this mission already".And if you collect every star as Marion you get to replay the game as Luigi!
Cons: Ihave alot of praise for the game but a few minor gripes. The life sytem is pointless. It's doesn't matter if when you quit you have 5 or 50 lives you'll always start with 4. Swimming under water is still a pain to do especially on missons were your reacing or under a time limit and you need to not waste and movment. The bosses are incredibly easy. Once you see and get down there pattern it will only take 1-3 tries before you can win. Even with the big bad bowser. The final boss battle is a huge let down. You faced Bowser so many times up to this point you know all he's tricks and only takes 1 try to win. I died more times gettin to bowser on the final battle then in the actual fight. Ocassionly the camera while greatly improved will get stuck behind a wall and you can't see. The mission difficulty is strange. You'll get a mission so easy your baby sister could do it foloowed by apull your hair out of your head mission that takes hours.
Bu tthese are minor thing sin a great game. While the bosses are mostly easy there much harder under Daredevil comets where you can only get hit once. And there are much harder mission that make up for them. If you got a wii this is a must have game for your collection. 5/5
I was a fan of the playstaion every since the first one came out in the 90's. I was a PS3 owner until my step son got a Nintendo WII for his birthday. I found mario galaxy on ebay and bought it used. I was hooked from day one. I sold my PS3 and all the games and bought myself a WII and this game. A must for all ages of gamers
This game is the latest entry in the great line of Mario titles in video game history. It's similar to Super Mario Sunshine (but better) and Super Mario 64, and as much fun as the best Mario games of the past.
The central conceit of this game is that Mario journeys through many small "worlds" each with its own gravity. As a result, there's a lot of strange, disorienting gameplay, but it never gets frustrating and is always fun. The controls are intuitive and responsive, and the gameplay is polished to the high standard that we expect from Mario games. Although the game starts out fairly easy, some of the levels are quite challenging, even for veteran gamers. Fortunately, it's not necessary to beat every level to finish the game, so newer players will be able to enjoy this game as well, while still having challenges to tackle.
The structure of the game is similar to previous Mario titles, with Mario adventuring through various worlds trying to find stars. After obtaining a certain number of stars, the final level is unlocked and if Mario beats Bowser you can see the ending. However, there is a tremendous amount of content to do even after seeing the ending. There's the challenge of getting all 120 stars, and even after you've done that there's a pleasant surprise which greatly extends the length of the game...
The music and graphics in Super Mario Galaxy really deserve to be commended. While the Wii is not nearly as powerful as the PS3 or Xbox 360, this game proves that you don't need the strongest technical specs to have great graphics. The game is a bit cartoony, but in a beautiful and aesthetically pleasing way. The music is also superb, which is slightly surprising for a game which does not have a tremendous amount of plot or narration.
If you're a veteran gamer, you won't be disappointed by Super Mario Galaxy. If you're new to games (as many owners of the Wii are), pick up this title to see why Mario is so popular. This is one of the best games to come out on the current generation of consoles and will not disappoint.
Super Mario Galaxy is just the best game in the history of video games. After playing a while with this game I'm really surprised how this game is. The graphics are totally amazing. This game proves Wii doesn't need HD. Game designers who creates games for the Wii must look at this game, so they can know Wii is capable of having good games with good Graphics. I really recommend this game to everyone... It's a must have game for Wii owners. If you had play before Super Mario Bros series in Nintendo and Super Nintendo and if you had also play Mario 64 in the Nintendo 64... you'll definitely love this game. This is a Masterpiece and
Pros: *Amazing Graphics
*Excellent Soundtrack
*Great Story
*Mario with new powers and suits
*Great use of the gravity
*Perfect use of the Camera
Cons: *The Game is not too long when you're getting the first 60 stars (There are 120 stars in the game, so getting
the other 60 stars is harder.
*Boss Battles (especially the Bowser ones) could have been more difficult
Best game ever! If you dont have this game buy it now i dont know how i survived without it!
Be prepared to like this game more than you think you will. It feels as though this is the game they were trying for when they made Super Mario 64. That was a great game. This is much, much better. You think you'll just play a level or two, next thing you know it's four in the morning and you haven't done anything but collect stars. Buy it now and try not to get lost!
As a new owner of the Wii but having owned other Nintendo systems in the past, such as the original NES in the late 80's, I have to say this is another great Mario game. There are lots of galaxies to explore and it will provide hours and hours of gameplay with new bosses in each galaxy.
The game was in perfect condition! Came before it said it should have by 2 days!! I love the game and I suggest it to alot of my friends!!
This is my favorie game for Wii. It's just so awesome in every way. I wished the game would never end. Very fun, you have to get it.
Before I start talking about the countless pros and the VERY few cons,I want to say two words: BUY THIS. I have already sold my copy, having already beat the game myself, and I loved every minute of it. Sure, the final epic boss battle with Bowser at the end of the main story is puny. But at heart, this game ended up becoming one of the best-selling games on Wii. And it deserves it. Brace youself, everybody, because the Yoshi-filled sequel to Super Mario Galaxy is coming this year. So go buy this game to sharpen up your Mario skills before the next "Miyamoto Masterpiece" hits in 2010........
This game is so far the best game that I have played on the wii. This game is not a game that you can beat in a week, but this game is just fun to play and watch. I really do like the music that they brought back from Super Mario Bros 3. The different stars that you can get as power ups are really cool, lasting only temporarily. This is a game that has brought the old into the new. This game is a must for your wii collection.
Graphics: A
Sound/Music: A+
Gameplay: A+
Controls: A
I have so much fun playing this game. It relaxes me and makes me laugh when I make stupid mistakes. So far this is the best Mario game that I have played on the Wii. I love the different levels/galaxies.
Mario galaxy is a very good game and has no evil or blood which makes it less violent and even more fun then T rated games! I have a great 10 and 8 year old who fights for the player one remote! I tell you, if you want this, then you better get it!
This game is awesome. I have waited years to be able to buy this at this kind of price. Very fun game!!!
