This game is beautifully designed and the newly re-tooled speed engine is unbelievably fast. It also has a very innovative and fun control scheme. I have been waiting for this game for some time now and it was well worth the wait. TOTALLY exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend this one!

Cheers,

Jay

I bought this game for my kids as a Christmas present to play on their Wii. It is awesome, The contrast between night and day is a good touch. The only thing that is annoying is like in the the beginning where you have to listen to them talk and talk and its like 10 minutes before you actually start playing.

Besides that I highly recommend this game my Kids are 11, 8 and 8 (twins) and they love it. I could not decide what game to buy and after 30 minutes picked this one, I am glad I did.

This game has received a lot of negative reviews both by regular players and professional game critics. The primary complaint seems to be that the werehog levels are too slow and the combat is mindless. Other complaints are that the controls are difficult to use, or that one has to button mash ([...], amazon.com). I, however, feel quite the opposite.

The night stages (werehog) are much slower than the day stages (hedgehog), but not worse. These stages are reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or Super Mario 64, so much so that when I was recently playing SM64 I shook the N64 controller accidentally trying to punch. The combat is not long at all if you don't button mash. Yes, one can usually make it through combat by swinging with reckless abandon, but to win with lots of health left and win quickly? No. The combos can be tricky and challenging, as well as using the proper combat maneuvers.

The 3D platforming in this game is made so much more fun by the werehog's stretchy arms. Jumping from the molding on a crumbling building to a teetering platform full of bad guys over a giant vortex can be pretty exhilarating! The use of the Wii remote is excellent in pulling levels, swinging on poles, climbing, and throwing crates! In the upper levels especially, the puzzles are very well thought out. None are frustratingly hard to solve. All are fun. If you don't like 3D platformers though, this game isn't for you. (n00b)

As day breaks, so does the sound barrier. Sonic in his normal form (day stages) is faster than ever before. These stages are amazing as far as the amount of detail that goes into the stages' graphics. While playing these stages you will see the countryside whip by in a blur of color, but if you slow down you can see advertisements for Japanese style haircuts, flowers, and houses with 3D objects inside.

These day stages are much shorter but (maybe I was just not as good) have to be replayed several times to complete with the best ranking. They make up a smaller part of the game but are similar to Sonic advance 2 (not really like the genesis titles), or a racing game where you beat up badniks on the track. Even my most flawless runs (take the best secrets, avoid damage, etc.) have room for improvement making the re-playability value for these VERY high. Fun to play with friends too, I just wish it had online high scores or something!

The storyline has so many cinematic scenes with great graphics and funny writing that I really didn't notice that you can't skip them! There is really only one new character in this game, Chip, and longtime fans will be pleased to note that even he probably won't ever be seen again. He is a fun maroon colored comic relief that waves farewell at the end of the story. A bit of chatting with the townspeople to find the next level adds an interesting reference to RPGs but does not go into great depth with it.

The only other thing I need to say before concluding is that it plays to a wide array of players. If you spend way too much time playing video games, looking for all the secrets, and refusing to use a strategy guide (like me), than you will find hours of enjoyment unlocking everything to get the cut scene at the end. If have a life outside of video games (like my spouse), then just playing through the main game should give you your money's worth (especially since it's cheaper than $20.00!). So if you are an average or experienced player, this is the game for you.

Overview:

Graphics: 100% (best graphics on Wii)

Music: 84% (some pieces are close to perfect whereas the town music is like elevator music)

Story: 90%

Day stage game play: 97%

Night stage game play: 93%

Re-playability: 91% (I have logged over 70 hours on it and still play it)

Overall: 97%

I got this game for my daughter and she loves it, except for the wolf levels.

Sonic started out as inoffensive, but lately he has become quite juvenile. That being said, the sonic part of this game is really fun and mesmerizing, going through stages at top speed doing crazy tricks. The wolf part of this game is fairly repetitve, boring, and frustrating. Sonic isn't meant to go slow, but that wolf...boy is he slow. The wolf part of the game wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't so much of it, I'd say 70-80% of the game is played as the wolf. This game jsut diverges too much from how Sonic is meant to run like hell to be fun for someone who is used to the early era of hedgehog. This is tailored to the younger crowd who didn't know Sonic from birth.

If you like Sonic then you will enjoy this game. This game is not meant for the younger crowd(e.g.: ages 5 and less).

Sonic Unleashed no doubt is the best graphically represented Sonic game to date. The movie clip just before you face the boss Gaia is stunning. (I saw the HD demo on the Playstation 3 and it is even more fantastic with PS3's higher resolution capability). It is fun using the Wiimote and the Nunchuk as you get more physical action than mere pushing buttons.

The typical fast Sonic pace is always the best part. I am loving the new environment, I enjoy the sightseeing.

The Werehog is a gentler pace but you get more figting sequences with the enemies. The encounters reminds me of Kingdom Hearts, even some of the enemies are similar. You do spend more time being a werehog than Sonic which can be a bit tiring.

The movies in between are somewhat long but nice and beaut. There is also a lot of loadings, not too long but still interrupting. I am disappointed not to have multiplayer games as me and my son enjoy playing together with the older Gamecube Sonic games. Some fans may also miss Chao world.

Overall, it is still a great addition to your Sonic collection. Definitely better than "Sonic and the Secret Rings".

I say it really depends a lot in your expectation of the game. Right now, it looks like my 9 year-old is having a blast and tons of fun...and that is all that matters.

Here is my review for one of the best Sonic games I've played in a while. The game is "Sonic Unleashed" on the Nintendo Wii; it is (to me) the best 3-D Sonic game I've ever played since "Shadow The Hedgehog" on the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox. The game is about Sonic The Hedgehog transforming into a Werehog at night after his archnemesis, Dr. Ivo Robotnik (AKA Dr. Eggman), drains the energy from the Chaos Emeralds while as Super Sonic in a battle seen at the beginning of the game. The plot is a little more complex for me to tell, so I won't bother explaining everything that happens unless you've played the game.

I've heard a lot of people say that the daytime stages (the levels with Sonic as his regular hedgehog self) are more to play than the nighttime stages (the levels with him as a Werehog); I actually disagree with anyone who says that. Even though the daytime stages have a classic Sonic-style gameplay to them, most of the nighttime stages are very fun to play on the Wii because of how you use the Nunchuck Controls to play the game. Ever since I played this game from beginning to end, I was hooked.

In conclusion, I recommend this title fun anybody who hasn't had much fun playing "Sonic The Hedgehog" on the Xbox 360 / Playstation 3, or even "Sonic & The Secret Rings" on the Nintendo Wii. "Sonic Unleashed" is a great Sonic game to play, and I only hope that SEGA / Sonic Team continues making games as fun as this. :)

My roommate got this game for me for Christmas. I told him I was really enjoying the game and he told me that he did his research before buying, lots of good reviews; mine is one more for the pile.

I like the Hedgehog and Werehog levels equally. The Werehog might not be as fast, but the actions he uses (to squash enemies and the like) are really fun. The Werehog levels are a breath of fresh air to the usual Sonic speed. They intersperse enough Hedgehog for the traditional Sonic feel to stay alive, I don't feel there is too much Werehog.

If you are a traditional gamer from the NES/SNES days, I think you will definitely like Sonic Unleashed.

My 9 year old received this game for Christmas. He loves this game. He said it should get more than 5 stars!!

I went ahead and bought the Wii version of Sonic Unleashed, despite the so-so reviews. After spending almost three hours playing, I gotta say that I'm very impressed.

First off, the graphics are stunning to say the least. Right in the beginning, our eyes are treated to a visual feast of 3D-rendered imagery in the form of an intro video. The graphics here rival that of Super Mario Galaxy.

And then, we have our Werehog levels. After Dr. Eggman ambushes Sonic and drains life from the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic is mysteriously transformed into a Werewolf-like Hedgehog form, a.k.a. Werehog. These levels have been universally panned for their lanky controls and annoying music. I assure you, only the ladder is true. The controls here are far better executed than that of the Xbox and PS3 counterparts. With a bit of patience, you'll be able to zip right through them.

Matter of fact, the PS3 demo for this game made me want to buy the Wii version. So far, I'm far more impressed with this version of the game.

PROS:

-Excellent motion-based controls.

-Also can be played using Classic/GameCube controller.

-Some of the best graphics available for the console.

CONS:

-Werehog levels take a bit of patience to master.

-The combat music in said levels gets annoying, as it never changes.

OVERALL: Aside from the Werehog and the tediousness of controlling him, I have no real reason to put down this game. Immensely enjoyable and wondrous to behold.

My son actually played this game and rated it five stars. He plays all of the Sonic games and really enjoyed it except for the fact that Sonic cannot swim and that poses a problem for him in this game.

As always, Amazon and their supliers pulled through again. I have no trouble with any order I place with them..Give them 100% for on time with no problems. Tim Seegel

This game has its share of fun quality. It is basically a Sonic version of Zelda Twilight Princess.

Good game for a while, but I'll recommend you to don't buy it, rent it.
