My wife and I are super Mario Cart Fans. We've bought at least 7 or 8 other race games but none hold a candle to Mario Carts. Will now we have one that does. Sonic Sega All-Stars is a ton of fun. It's a big game with lots to do. 24 colorful, detailed tracks that will keep you at the edge of your seat. Lots of power ups that are unique to the game. You can also use your Wii person that you may have made to drive the car. It makes me look fat. If you like Mario Carts, I don't see any way you would be sorry for purchasing this game. I bought mine from Amazon (free shipping) and had it in three or four days.
I bought this on the day it was released and Im glad I did.
I was a little worried with the price being $40.00 but i bought it on the day it was released and found it to be a really fun game.
It's basically like mariokart If it were more fun and had sega characters. One cool thing is that all of the tracks are designed around sega games. ( sonic green hills, curien mansion from house of the dead, sonic spinball) The controls are nice and tight and the graphics are pretty solid too.
The drift feature works great and it's alot of fun trying to pull of multiple quick drifts while going around sharp corners that come one after another. The game unlocks tracks and characters as rewards for winning championships and also pays you for everything you do so that you can unlock things you want in a hurry. Each character has a special attack that is fun to use. I would recommend this to anyone who likes racing games and say that is was worth every penny.
Got the game and spent hours last night playing (and laughing out loud at times, M Kart doesn't have the sense of humor this game does). The cars feel heavier and slower than Mario Kart at first, which a few laps around the track lets you adjust. They need this for the drift feature which you use heavily to speed up. Have to say the thumb gets a better workout here than on M Kart due to using this feature so much. If you are a Sega fan you will love your characters, I played as Amigo, Beat, BD Joe and Ulala so far. Love Ulala the best, she is funny with all that dancing while driving. Tracks are good, and it's easy to unlock stuff. Having some problems playing online but that may be my router that keeps getting me disconnected, not sure. Definitely worth the money and no regrets on the purchase!
Want another racing game that's up to the standards of Mario Kart? This is it! As some reviews have said about the pros: 24 tracks, great drift, tricks & weapons, and each car has a special move. Lots of challenge games, missions, etc for the single player. My only downside is there's no "Team Racing" as in Mario Kart, with more racers on the track. Every race is a single race. But my 9-year-old son loves it. Other than that, go out and buy it.
When I first played it, I didn't know what to expect. The starting characters are sonic, tails, amy, knuckles, shadow, eggman, and the rest you have to unlock.Okay lets fast forward in say what made the game good was, the ability to: drift,(at level 3 you can run over another racer),the ability to use a giant rocket that can dentonate in its surroundings, and also the mega horn(which stops the racers in there tracks). The backgrounds looks just like the classic an new sonic boards, and they also have real life Tokyo tracks. In finally the hip hop beats, and the mettallic music is off the chain!I hope they make another Sonic & Sega All Star Racing, with more unlockable character, like the master of nature, the master of disaster, the master of transformation, "Vectorman" as a all star. In how about some others like alter beast, golden axe, mortal kombat Luke Kane & Shao Kane.
This game is brilliant. I love having a racing game using ALL of the Sega games not just Sonic (BTW: to make the races fair Sonic's driving a car because he can run at the speed of sound). This game is very much like Crash Team Racing and Mario Kart Wii but with more tracks to race and much better graphics. It's cool that instead of go karts they all use soap box style vehicles they've made from their own individual game worlds. The more you play the more points you earn to unlock tons of features ranging from mission modes to new playable racers. The massive amount of secret content is very reminiscent of the Smash Bros. series. You can use the Wii Wheel (like in Mario Kart) or the Classic Controller to play and there's online races as well.
I snagged this awesome game for $40 bucks with a Wii Wheel separately for $10 when it first came out and I'd do it again. For my money it's the best racer on the Wii for all the content they packed into it. If you're lucky to see it for less it'll be a steal. Buy it now.
I don't own Mario Kart, but I couldn't wait to get my hands on this game. I love all of the characters that you can be. It's tons of fun, graphics are great, and controls are easy to learn. Every time you race you earn miles which can be accumulated and used to purchase additional characters, tracks, and even music. My nephew has Mario Kart and likes this better. We played for hours. He's way better than me, but I had just as much fun watching him win. I even won a few times - so it's not that hard!
I was a little bit disappointed that you don't have crashing graphics. Every time you crash it just pops of the game logo and you start again. It would have been more interesting to see your car turning end over end or having your character make a rude comment like others racing games do.
This is a great family game. Easy and fun for gamers of all ages and abilities. Very addicting too!
I thought this game would be short like most "kiddy" racing games but it proved me wrong. Although the cup series isn't THAT long, they have different difficulty settings which makes it that much more challenging and worth your money. There are plenty of missions to play and the Wii wifi was a cool feature that I didn't even know about. Overall, great game and even as a college student, I play this game myself whenever I have downtime.
I am a big fan of Mario Kart Wii and have been playing it now for about two years, finding most of the hidden items. When I found out Sonic "All Stars Racing" was similar, I played it. The game is similar to Mario Kart, and one of the pluses this has over it is an opponent's weapons are not as devastating as they are in Mario. I don't know how many games I've lost because someone hit me with an object at the end of a race, but I still didn't find the game to be as entertaining as Mario Kart. It's not original enough, and I have had a hard time finding people to play online.
I wanted to play with this game a full solid week so that I could give a solid review. I could not wait for this game to come out. I am a big Mario Kart fan and have been looking for a game just as good as Mario Kart. I've purchased some other racing games like Speed Racer, Excitebots and Sims Racing. All these games are pretty good but they do not compete with my favorite Mario Kart. That is until now with Sonic & Sega All Star Racing. The similarites to Mario Kart are pretty much the same. You have your Grand Prix Racing that you have to come in top 3 to move on to the next level. You also have your Time Trial Racers. The most fun I have is playing live on Wi Fi with other people. You have different courses like Mario Kart but the racing syle is different. In Sonic it is all about the drift. When you curve around a corner you have to drift. In doing this you get a turbo boost that moves you ahead. You also pick up weapons to use against your opponents like Mario. When you are towards the back of the race you may also get an All Star move, sort of like the Rocket in Mario to move you ahead. So the similarties are really close when it comes to Sonic Vs. Mario. The only difference is learning how to race in a different way than Mario. Also when you are in the air you can flip your vehicle up to 3 x's and this will also give you a Turbo Boost when you land.
Now, what I don't like about this game is that you can't destroy your fellow racers like you can on Mario. You really can't crash into them and knock them off the road. You can use your weapons but that is about it. Mario is more fun when you get your opponents and speed ahead of them. Another thing that they did wrong was when playing the Grand Prix games you cannot quit or leave in the middle of a 4 course game. After each game there is not option to quit. So if you lose your first game and want to restart you are going to have to reboot your wii. Another thing that I don't like about the game is that you play Live you enter a lobby. The first person in the room is in charge of what games you are going to play and you have no say in the matter. You can leave the lobby and come back in but that is a hassle. Also there doesn't seem to be that many people playing live yet. Probably because the game is still new. The last problem I had with the game are alot of error readings when playing live. It seems like I have to wait a long time to get in a game and then sometimes not often I get an error message saying I have been disconnected. I think that it has something to do with that other people have left the race.
All in all I would have to say that this has become one of my favorite games. Is it as good as Mario? No Is it pretty close to Mario? Yes. I have been playing this game every night this week just as much as I do mario and even find it to be a little less frustrating than Mario at times. All in all a must have for any Mario Kart fan.
I purchased this game for my grandsons birthday. He likes it very much.
He likes Sonic and is a big fan of racing. "The perfect gift"
Fun racing game. Plenty of stuff to unlock to keep you playing so you can purchase them, and unlock them. You can play as any of the characters or as your mii. Most of the tracks are fun, the monkeyball tracks are pure evil. No matter how much I play them, I still lose miserably. This is not a deterrent from the game, though. I do like my racing games, and this is a very fun one.
The biggest plus is it is way cheaper than mario kart, for those who are penny pinchers like me.
If you are looking for a serious racing game, obviously this is not for you.
However, if you enjoyed Mario Kart Wii this might be of interest. The two games are alike in many ways, but they play quite differently. For example, if you were frustrated by the over abundance of weapons in Mario Kart, that is not the case here. While the weapons are simliar in usuage, they are much more rare and not nearly as devestating. Winning a race is much more about knowing track layouts and skillfull drifting than pelting other racers with items. Especially with online matches, this is a definite plus.
Yes, this game supports online matches, and despite a few missteps or oversights by SEGA they tend to be quite good, although finding a match might take awhile. To be fair, I purchased this game day one, so perhaps there simply weren't many players availible yet. BTW, friend codes are required to race specific people. Of course local multiplayer is always an option.
Track variety is pretty good, featuring levels from Sonic, Jet Set Radio, House of the Dead, Samba de Amigo, Monkey Ball and Billy Hatcher, but given SEGA'S rich history, it feels kind of skimpy, especially considering the lack of Outrun or Virtua racer courses. Character variety is in the same boat, and while it is great to see Alex Kidd and Ulala, why no Gilius Thunderhead? Where is Toejam and Earl? How did Big the cat make the cut and not the cast of Streets of Rage?
There is a good amount of content here: Grand Prix, challenges, time trials, and a store where you can unlock racers, courses and music. This game is definetly worth a look, and I feel confident recommending it to any Sega/kart racing fan. It's a close second to Mario Kart, and hopefully will sell well enough to warrant a sequel, one that fully utilizes Sega history.
Its not nearly as good as mario kart wii but ok. i got bored in 45 minutes and than ejected it and put in mario kart. since than (1 month) I have not touched it. but its fun at first. then BORING. if you wew decieding between this and mario kart. get mario kart.
