This game is great if you want to get in shape, but like all other ways of getting in shape you can't quit after 2 weeks and expect results
I pre-ordered this months ago and was very disappointed. It works better if you don't use the balance board but it still is frustrating. The response time to the controller is the worst I have seen, though the ideas for the workout sessions are cool, when you play all you get is frustrated. There is a whole lot of just walking time too. My advice is not to buy it, wish I could get my money back for mine.
This "game" is terrible. We played it one time and never looked at it again. It has ugly graphics, terrible mini-games (which is the death knell for any Wii game!), and isn't easy to use.
That said, my family and I use the Wii for fun, not health. If you are someone who is looking for an interactive workout program that keeps track of your weight loss and health then this could work for you.
If you want the best of both worlds go with Wii Extreme Challenge or Wii Fit Plus. Both of those games have excellent calorie burning mini-games that can help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Ever since I bought Wii fit I was anxiously awaiting a complementary program. Wii Fit is great but we all know its huge flaws. So when I found out Jillian Michaels was coming out with a balance board game I thought great, a fitness buff should bring a fresh perspective.
Well, in a nut shell what was created was not a fitness program that you can build a lifestyle around but more like a game that you can play for a few weeks and then move on to something else. The Big three as I call them (Yourself Fitness, Let's Yoga, and Wii Fit) can be incorporated into a fitness lifestyle on pretty much a daily basis. No so with Fitness Ultimatum
So just where does this game fail as far as an exercise program? For one thing, in this game you are mostly not doing the on screen exercise but doing some kind of physical gyration to get your on screen avatar to do the screen action. For example running on screen is done by alternating heel lifts and swinging your arms. In boxing in order to get permission to throw a punch on the bag your hips have to be swaying to the music.
Oh, and the music. Have these game designers ever been in a gym? I feel like I'm listening to some-one's Ipod shuffle mix. Exercise music is supposed to drive you to working out, not someones idea of good tunes. In one paint ball hand grenade activity I was throwing paint ball grenades to country western music. What???????
The game does work without the balance board. I found that out today becasue the balance board game sync menu is not user friendly, the controls are too sensitive and you don't get enough time. Thus I failed the balance board sync test and went without the balance board today
And finally the game has no exit. Once you get back to the opening flash screen the program dead ends. Yesterday the game crashed my Wii so I had to unplug to take out the disk. Today after I got to the flash screen, I ejected the disk and inserted Wii Fit. After a couple seconds of the disk turning, I got a screen message that said please insert Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2009.
Jillian would have done much better to turn one of her own DVDs into a Wii Fit game.
So I tried Jillian Michael's Fitness Ultimatum 2009 for Wii. I really wanted it to be good, but here's what I experienced:
-It's not user friendly like Wii Fit. It was hard to figure out how to jog using the balance board, you have to shift your back heels in sync with your arms. This is definately a step down than even running in place on Wii Fit. Many of the other activities, monkey bars, log jumping, also take a while to get used to, as the speed of the demo avatar is going VERY fast.
- Half the game is getting Fitness Tips from Jillian Michaels. This might be valuable info for hardcore Jillian fans, but all the tips seemed common sense and lacked incentive for progressing through the game.
- Four modes: Weight Loss, Strength training, Hill climbing, and Intervals. So, to give you an idea of how they spread the events: Hill climbing is dodging punching bags. Strength Training is monkey bars (waving your arms above you). Kind of strange how they classify events!
-Multiplayer: This was a little more fun, however, the person who had never played before couldn't grasp the controls, so the more experienced person won, regardless if they were less fit.
-Overall: Anticipating this game for months, my expectations were much too high as a replacement for Wii Fit. This game might get a few more plays, but I'd just as soon get a more effective real workout.
Why Jillian!! This could have been great, but it feels rushed.
OMG - this Jillian Michaels' game is so lame! Compared to the game/DVD that came with the Wii Fit, Fitness Ultimatum 2009 is more like Fitness Joke 2009. The graphics are poor, but worse the coordination between hand controllers and Wii Fit board is horrible. You can literally sit in your chair and do the exercises. C'mon Jillian, you should be embarrassed to have your name on this. Majesco Entertainment, the game publisher, should be embarrassed too. In one event, walking on a log in a river, the character I created swayed left and right as he was walking, like he was trying to balance himself, and I am presumably supposed to counterbalance to keep him steady. I just stood there still, but the character kept swaying left and right and walking forward. The event completed with me not moving a muscle, and Jillian Michaels saying something like "way to go!" Way NOT to go.
I was so excited to see the Jillian Michaels fitness game for the Wii that I went and bought the Wii system. I pre-ordered the game and was all ready to get going on a super fitness program. I LOVE the Wii system (I purchased Wii Fit) but the Jillian Michaels game is a sad disappointment. It simply does not work. The Wii balance board is a very sensitive and responsive interface for game play. In the Jillian Michaels game, it seems not to work at all! I kept wondering what I had to do to get my character to move. I was following directions but my avatar moved slowly or not at all. I am keeping the Wii and Wii Fit but Jillian is going back to Amazon. I hope they take her.
I love this workout. It is much harder than the WII Fit game. I did a 30 minute workout yesterday and buy the time I was done. I was shaking all over. It was a little tricky getting the moves done at first but once I did it was great. Jillian really kicked my but, she gives advise as you workout and the music is great as well and helps alot while exercising.
I purchased this believing that Jullian's Wii fit would be excellent. I was let down from the beginning. It is not a good tape at all, do not purchase it. The avatar is a joke, and the movements are terrible. I consider myself computer savy, however, I could not figure out most of the items within this dvd. Sorry, this is not worth the money I spent. It doesn't even deserve the 1 star I have rated for it.
I tried the wii fit out at the nintendo store before it was released and loved it so much I waited at Meijer the day it was released to be sure I could own one at midnight. Love the wii fit although I wish it had more games and was really excited for other games to come out and was really awaiting this one.
The description is very decieving. I figured this would be a great work out game. It isn't. you don't even break a sweat and it's mainly just swinging your arms. I haven't found anyway to do a warm up (not that you need one for this light of a "work out") and I am left handed and when you configure it for a left hand person it doesn't work.
While I recomend the WII balance board and wii fit I wouldn't waste my money on this game. I would just buy a work out DVD instead. I am really disappoitned she would associate her name with such a lame product.
I hope this isn't an indication of future wii balance board games to come.
Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2009 is another Wii games that uses the Wii Balance Board. As video game fitness games go, this game is "okay"...it could be better.
This game is not intuitive so it felt clumsy to work the Wii remotes. I opted to not use the nunchuk and to use two Wii remotes for my activities. The cord to the nunchuk continuously got in my way.
There are four different levels of training: weight loss, intervals, strength training, and hill climb. Users are allowed to set their own length time for each session and the intensity you'd like to train. This allows you to string together a comprehensive workout, unlike Wii Fit. This is a major difference between this game and Wii Fit.
I worked out for about 30 minutes and I sweated slightly. Not as much as I do with Wii Fit.
However, with that being said, if your purpose is to get off the couch and move, this game will move you if your honest to the intentions of the game. Now you can decide to not do anything and Jillian will continue to give you encouragement as if you're really doing something. But I figure, that's the purpose of you purchasing the game. You want to get some exercise in, on the cheap and fly with no hassle. This will do the trick.
Is this game fabulous? Not like I thought it would be. My assessment is that between Wii Fit and this game I'll be able to get a workout of some value. Not necessarily the one I'd get at my gym, but one that won't make me into a couch potato. So on a rainy day or cold day and I don't want to head out to my gym, I have no excuse as why I can't work out in some fashion.
What a shame that Jillian got talked into putting her name and likeness to this game. This is by far the worst fitness game vere. The wii does not respond with the movements, sometimes it takes 2 tries to even start the game. Once you get it moving, you cannot speed up running because it only runs at one pace and will give you an error message. I really had high hopes for this game seeing Jillian was connected with it but boy did she get taken (like me)
I've been Wii Fitting for a few months and love it - I do it every day, but my problem with it is that I spend 20 minutes on yoga, 25 minutes on strength, and end up only having another 15 for cardio. I was hoping to use this title 3 days a week for a full-on cardio hour. Sadly, it ain't gonna happen.
Here are my problems
- Avatar selection is crap compared to Wii Fit. You can't even change your hair color! On top of that the graphics are terrible - the quality is low and it's the same thing over and over.
- The instructions don't show you how to do the exercises. Often, the animated character "showing" you how to do it conflicts with the text explaining how to do it below. It would be nice to have a video of Jillian doing it.
- Most of the time you have to do the exercises completely different than the instructions to get the game to actually sense what you're doing.
- The game doesn't respond to movements well at all. The first day I had no problem with the Grenade Toss game, but today it wasn't registering my squats to pick the grenades up. I had to whip the controller and nunchuck downwards for the game to realize I was going down, which threw off my balance. It was pointless.
- The music, out of the blue, will stop. I found no way to get it back.
- The music screen will only stay on the screen if you hold b, but if you do that then you can't select anything!
- The log walk is pointless. Stand still and you'll get across the same speed and balance as if you were trying!
- With the Wii Fit board it's impossible to do anything! I used it for the cannon game and couldn't pick up a cannon ball. I turned off the board and suddenly I could pick them up just with the remote/nunchuck.
- You can't use the direction pad in menus, using the remote is really show.
- The voice tracks done by Jillian are repetitive and boring and not inspirational at all.
- Most of the tips given are common sense, and some baffle me - in one she recommends putting skim milk in your coffee. She recommends drinking coffee? Caffeine? I just can't imagine a trainer who recommends coffee!
- There's no way to find out how many minutes you've done so far in the workout without quitting.
- On Rowing you have to throw your arms around so savagely to get the highest power that I actually hurt my shoulder doing it.
- In boxing you're supposed to "jog in place" to get to the next punch or kick, but you have to move the remote/nunchuck up and down RAPIDLY to get to the next move, which doesn't happen naturally with jogging. The worst part is you're moving them so rapidly that it ends up doing the punch for you. The left kick, though, is next to impossible to do - it just doesn't register.
- Tire Trail requires you to slam the controllers down so hard that it knocks you off balance as you're on one leg.
- The Punching Bag Dodge just does not register your movements, except for 2 times I squatted.
- Today I did a 60 minute work out, but in the stats menu it tells me I did 0.
The only benefit I found from an hour with this title was my shoulders and upper back were worked out well with the rowing, monkey bars and logs (before I realized it was fakery), and my legs with the cannon ball and grenade pickups. I didn't get a real workout, though, as my heart rate didn't go up very far. I'm going to go back to my Wii Fit and just add in some squats and lunges while one of those non-board Yoga moves is running to keep my timing, or maybe the tricep workout to keep count. I might even do some of the balancing arm moves too... but this game is getting traded in tomorrow.
Excellent game you would never realize you were exercising until the sweat starts pouring off. I would reccomend this to everyone.
The games that come with the Wii fit are fine for someone who doesn't excercise much and works up a sweat just going up and down 1 flight of stairs. But, if you want a REAL WORKOUT that will help you burn some calories, get you toned up AND is entertaining, This unfortunately, ISN'T IT! The game has so many glitches in it that its problematic at best to play. The response time between the Wii Fit Board is so delayed that you can start the game, not even touch the board or the controllers and it will play itself! This game should have opened the door for future possibilities for home workouts using the Wii Fit. But, instead its like a Bill Gates/ Windows Vista fiasco. At least with windows, you could download a patch for the system. You can't with this game, to my knowledge anyway. They need to RECALL every single one of these games and reissure the new ones with a coupon for another FREE game, since those who purchased it became Wii Fit Gunea pigs. Jillian Michaels needs to kick the game programmers butts for putting this piece of garbage out on the market to early. Afterall, its HER name thats on this piece of junk. She probably could too! ;-D
