This is the best basketball game for PSP on the market. It puts NBA Live 08/09 and Sony's NBA 09 to shame. Great gameplay and graphics. Highly recommended!

NBA games are the only games I buy for my PSP nowadays. This year, I've bought both this game and Live 10, and this is the better game. Here's a comparison.

Pros:

- In 2K10, the graphics are better optimized. On Live 10, whenever the game zooms out to half-court, the graphics become pixelated, which is annoying. In this game, the aliasing is better, which makes the animations look better.

- The characters here are also better animated. In Live they're more robotic. In 2K10 you can actually tell what's going on just from watching the animations. If someone fouls, you can tell who it was because they looked pissed off. Meanwhile the guy who's going to the line pumps his fists. If the ball gets knocked outta bounds, you just watch the ref to know who's ball it is.

- Gameplay is way better. The simulation and pace feels more like an actual NBA game. Computer controlled players will actually cut and try to set up plays, as opposed to Live where they tend to go through the motions.

- The instant replay is programmed better. You'll see the same dunk from different angles. In Live you get one replay and a lot of times it's from a crappy angle.

- Free throws use the analog stick, instead of trying to line up an X and Y cursor like in Live. It's more intuitive.

- A ton of cut scene animations. During a timeout, you'll see the coach call it. After a big play, you'll see bench players high fiving each other. Halftime you see cheerleaders. If there's an injury, you see the player going to the lockeroom. I've seen one cut scene showing the fans doing a wave and one fan getting mad at the guy next to him because he messed it up. Live has none of these.

Cons:

- Everything except the players and the cutscenes are low res. You can especially tell when looking at the court and the logos are so low res they look out of focus.

- The skins they used for the players are ugly as can be. The player faces in Live actually looked like their counterparts. Here all the players look like pitbulls. Wait til you see Gasol's face in this game. You'll be like WTF is that??!

- The camera always follows the ball and doesn't zoom out far enough. So say you're playing D, if you're not covering the man with the ball, both you and your man might be off screen.

- Live's commentary with Marv Albert and Steve Kerr is better. In Live they even tell jokes and argue with each other. Here it's cut and dry. IE. every foul, the commentators announce "DEFENSIVE FOUL" or "OFFENSIVE FOUL," which is helpful, but it takes you out of the game.

- I've noticed sound tends to cut in and out sometimes. I'll be playing and the crowd will be cheering then all of a sudden it's dead quiet except for the dribble. I've also seen video freeze for a split second when the disc is being read. Live has some bugs too so I guess it is what it is.

In the end, 2K10 is the game to get.

The gameplay for NBA 2K10 is the most fluid and flowing of all the NBA games. The graphics are not as good as NBA 10 The Inside, which has crappy gameplay, but is better than NBA Live 10, which also has terrible gameplay. The graphics do not look good on review videos, but played in person they really are not that bad, and are certainly not a deal breaker if you want a legit basketball game. You can create a player, edit rosters, dynasty, playoffs, adjust any settings, and basically do whatever you want with the game. It's the best basketball game for the PSP.

I am VERY pleased with this game! I have played Live on psp since 06 and I then switched over to sony's NBA series. Live's graphics are not good at all and nor is the gameplay. But I continued to buy Live because I needed a portable basketball game. I then found out about Sony's NBA series and the first one I bought was NBA 08. Now I can say the graphics in that game is pretty good! But the gameplay stinks! They run around so fast like ants! Its annoying! So when I heard NBA 2k10 would be out on psp, I was ecstatic! After playing the game a few times, here are my pros and cons:

PROS:

-Amazing gameplay! Is actually very realistic.

-Fun games modes

-Super deep Franchise mode (called The Association in 2k10)

-Ok graphics (good for PSP. Reminds me of PS2 graphics)

-Create A Player (Finally!!!) is very detailed. Can even choose what type of shoes the player wears

-Music for the game is GREAT!

-Amazing and very realistic cut scenes (including crowd cut scenes!)

-Players and coaches on the sidelines

-Many dunk styles (not just one simple dunk like in Live)

CONS:

-Framerate issues at times (not much though)

-When using a camera angle that is zoomed out very far, the graphics look pretty weak.

-The players DO NOT look like their real life counterparts...they look like pit bulls.

-The game menus can be confusing if you are not familiar with 2k Sports games

-Sound issues. Sometimes the crowd is deadly silent

But those cons are not a big deal. The good definitely outweigh the bad!! I can sit and play this game for hours! I have yet to touch my Xbox 360 today because I have been playing NBA 2k10 on my psp! I highly recommend this game if gameplay is a big thing for you! If you are into graphics, you may want to look at NBA 10: The Inside and just suffer with the terrible gameplay. I recommend this game over Live and NBA 10!

NBA 2k10 is an amazing buy for the psp, it is much better than live 10. you can do a season which i really enjoy and also the quick play and the graphics for this game are definetly above average especially for the psp. nonetheless this game i would highly recommend if you are looking for a great sports game.

THIS GAME IS OK. THE GRAPHICS LOOK NOTHING LIKE THE NBA PLAYERS IN MOST CASES. THERE ARE ALOT OF GLITCHES IN THE GAME THAT YOU CAN LOOK PAST BECAUSE IT IS STILL FUN TO PLAY. PLAY CALLING AND DEFENSIVE CALLS ARE NOT RESPONSIVE AT TIMES. IT SEEMS NO MATTER WHAT YOU CALL THE PLAYERS ARE STILL REACTING THE SAME WAY AS IF YOU DIDN'T CALL A PLAY. I TRYED TO GET A SEASON GOING AND SAVED AT THE END OF MY PROGRESS BUT SEEM TO LOSE EVERYTHING ANYWAY AND HAVE TO START OVER - NOT SURE IF ITS A GLITCH AGAIN - OR ME???? HAS LOTS OF MODES TO PLAY IN AND YOU CAN CREATE SCENARIOS WHICH IS COOL. IF YOU SEE IT UNDER $15 I WOULD GET IT, OTHERWISE SAVE YOUR MONEY. I WOULD LIKE TO PLAY NBA LIVE TO COMPARE THE 2. ANYHOW, IT IS ONE OF THE FEW BASKETBALL GAMES ON THE PSP SO ITS A GOOD TIME KILLER.

This game honestly I got it for it's price and like the saying says 'you get for what you pay for'. Then again this is the first nba 2k for the psp, so I'll wait to give an honest review. For now, go with NBA Live 10. The graphics and gameplay are obvously better with EA since they been doing the game for a longtime. I only gave it two stars for having Kobe on the cover.

Definitely see if you can borrow this game and play it first. I bought it without reading the on-line reviews because the ps3 version is so much better than Live10. I haven't seen Live10 on psp but I can't imagine it being worse than this game. The graphics are much worse than the psp is capable of and the game play is lacking. The AI is horrible on every level. There is a reason its only $30!

Edit:

I have to drop my review of this game down to 1 star from my original 2 stars because I just found out there are no roster updates from 2K. Either you play with the season opening rosters or you update them manually yourself.

The first thing you should know is that I am giving this game 1 star so I can write this review. The game really deserves zero stars. There is something that makes this game better at one thing. I am comparing this to the PS3 and XBox 360 versions of this game. Here it is: It is possible to hit a 3 on the PSP. On the back of the box it should say this. "Make a 3 on the PSP" as the head line and "Don't hate us that much" underneath. But you should hate it that much. Every game has its bugs but 2k has more. It seems that for height they have 4 settings: Short, Medium, Tall, and Extra tall (Yao Ming). If Yao didn't jump he would be in the perfect position to dunk with his elbows. Instead he jumps, and his hands stop 2 feet above the rim. I know all games have some sort of invisible bubble around the ball and rim, but this is ridiculous (did I misspell that?)! And the replays change the way the net moved. The net might have barely moved, but in the replay the net moves to its mirror image. Another bug is that they give momentum to whoever is losing (usually the ai) at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Occasionally, they'll give it to the ai even if I'm losing! I have lost many games to the T-wolves because of this. They have no long hair. This isn't a big quirk, but one that stands out. I only noticed this on Louis Scola and Joakim Noah. I was a 2k fan who was new to basketball video games (I had only played Live 06 and just discovered 2k in 09) and this sent me crawling back to both EA (NBA Live) and Sony (NBA the Inside). If you are looking for a good game for the PSP, get NBA the Inside (any year). It has the most to offer,so you don't get tired of the game. Kobe was the perfect person for the cover. A stupid person for a stupid game!
