This is a very fun game.

Briefly, concerning the other reviews, you can naviagte on the board. There are easy, medium, and expert skill levels.

There is a free skate mode as well.

This game has everything all the other tony hawk games have in it. There is a learning curve though with the board. You wont start playing it and instantly be a pro. once you have gained control with the board the game is extremely fun to play.

The bad reviews you read are from people who haven't gotten past the learning curve.

[...]

i'm glad i bought it and since getting past the learning curve i dont have any problems with it.

I read the reviews before I purchased it and told my grandson that it did not seem to have good reviews. He wanted it anyway. To my surprise he liked it and mastered it. His mom verified that with me. He is 10 years old and said that you just have to know how to move with it.

I used to skate when I was younger and my daughter is into it now. This game takes me back to the day when I used to skate. Admittedly took a bit of time to get used to it but once past that it became a game we obsess over. Deceivingly simple like an arcade game should be.

got this for my 8 y/o son for Christmas. He likes it but likes to play sitting down instead of standing. We can't figur out how to turn off the board so the batteries ran down the night after the first play and now we just take the batteries out when he's finished playing which is a pain. Other than that, he has no complaints.

My TH Ride board arrive in the mail just days after purchasing it which was awesome. I open the box to a skateboard looking Controller. I was hesitant at first, the last thing I wanted to do was stand on it the wrong way and snap it in half!

After using the Ride for a couple of days you realise how rough you can play. The game its self is different to the past TH games as you aren't skating around the suburbs and cities (Free Skating), there are levels and each level has its own challenge. The levels only last a couple of minutes but there are a lot of them and at the beginning there is a huge learning curve to get used to controlling the game through the board.

The more I play the more I love the game and the board. I can see huge potential for this board in other games and more TH games!

If you love TH games you will love RIDE!

I love the Tony Hawk series. The original was the first PS game I got seriously hooked on, and I've bought every installment since with exception of Downhill Jam. I received Tony Hawk: Ride as a birthday present and was completely stoked when I unwrapped it. I'd seen the TV ads and had mentioned how cool they looked to my girlfriend, and she totally came through. Unfortunately, I tried three different sets of batteries and at no time did the skateboard controller show any signs of life whatsoever. The packaging included a little "need help?" flier that refers to an Activision warranty site. Maybe when the games around a little longer the site will feature more troubleshooting options. For now it basically says that if you switch out the batteries and the board still doesn't work, you need to send it in for service/replacement. Then I watched a few review videos - it really looks like the development budget all went into the controller. Gameplay has been dumbed down to the point where it actually looks hard to fall down (at least in casual mode). Maybe they just wanted to get this out the door for the holidays. At any rate, I decided in the end to get a refund on the game and get Uncharted 2 for the PS3 and two Wii games for the price of this clunker. My advice: skip it - maybe Tony Hawk: Ride 2 won't be so rushed and will actually work the way it ought to.

I am not impressed with this game at all and isn't what I expected. I have owned every single Tony Hawk game and have loved each and every one of them, with this one being the exception. The board/controller that comes with the game is too sensitive in some aspects and not sensitive enough in others. There's no way to adjust it, for example: You use the board to navigate through the menus and I found this frustrating because the ever so slight lean towards any dirrection will cause the curser to scroll through menu after menu and select something I wasn't even trying to pick. Durning game play it seems like no matter how hard you lean to the right, left, up, or down the game is slow to register your motion. The motions you do make on the board/controller do not mimic anything of a real skateboard maneuver. Growing up on a skateboard, I expected this to be somewhat of a simulation of real skating... it is not! The most disappointing part of this game is the "levels." No more free roaming around skate spots, your character follows a predetermined path as you can't not steer in the game. Each level is a challenge of race to the finsh line, high score of tricks, and "do this _____ (ollie, grind, fliptrick)here." The Best thing I can compare this game to is the video arcade game 'Top Skater' that really sucks. I wish I hadn't wasted my time with this one... Thanks THPS for letting me down.

I bought this game for my son for Christmas. Despite the bad word of mouth... I mean.. my kid wanted it for Christmas... how do you say "no" to that?

I brought the game home and wouldn't sync up with the dongl... a bit of a buzzkill on Christmas morning. So, I exchanged it and the second board fired right up and we started playing.

After calibrating the board and trying a few challenges.. here's what we decided:

Pros: Um... the board looks cool. It seems well constructed.

Cons: There seems to be a tiny lag in what you're doing on the board to what you're doing on the screen. For example, when you lean slightly to turn, your character doesn't turn right away... so, you instinctively lean a little harder and suddenly your character is turning too much and going in circles! My son quickly became frustrated at this. Also.. I may not be the most graceful guy... but I know how to ride a skateboard. I find it difficult at times to balance on the thing. I played on a well worn area rug... but I think it would work best on heavy carpet. I can't imagine playing on a hard surface (they give you sticky fabric pads to stick to the bottom for this). I'm surprised I didn't see a hundred disclaimers saying that Tony Hawk isn't responsible if you fall and crack your head on a coffee table.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone... not unless there's some sort of update pushed out by Activision to correct the board's sensitivity issues.

The game is just impossible to play because of the controller! You gotta make a certain move at the certain time, which is impossible without getting your legs tied. So I barely completed the first 5 missions. I regret that I didn't buy DJ HERO for the same price.

Bought the game... Got it home... unboxed it, and the controller failed to sync up.

Tried all kinds of different ways to get it to sync and it never would.

Tried calling the support line, and after only 2 or 3 selections, was told by the ever helpful automated system we'd have to RMA the board and do it only on the internet. I kinda wanted to talk to a real person but this was NOT an option.

Went onto their primary support web site, into their knowledge-base, and, after following THEIR directions, was told it needed to be RMA'd (again). Tried to follow the link on their web page to RMA, and it pulled up an error (a PHP error it looked like).

I sent an e-mail to their support, and they e-mailed me the link to the bad RMA page. I mailed them back saying that I couldn't even GET to the RMA page on the web, and they said they would look into it.

Mind you, over 48 hours had elapsed by this time. My flavor for the game, controller, and manufacturer had soured and I was done. I returned the game to the original vendor and wash my hands of anything from Tony Hawk again. Looks like Skate from here on out.

I got this Game for Christmas and was really pumped to plug it in and play. I grew up with tony hawk games playing all of the original games through High School. This Game is far from what the old games used to be. when i first heard of Ride i thought to myself this is a great concept i figured it would bring an aspect of the Wii to my playstation 3 but i was Wrong. The board Sucks, the gameplay is Terrible and everything about this game is ridiculous. This is by far the worst THPS game to ever be released. Its a real shame becuse this game has alot of potential. Some of my bigest gripes with RIDE are No 2 player mode(other than online), No option to play the game without the RIDE board. Bring back some feeling of the old school tony hawks 1-3 those are still the best ones. anyways I hope this review was helpful save your $120 and buy a used Wii for $30 more you will be far more satisfied.

We are sending this game back. Never even got to play spent hours trying to set up the controller without any luck. We decided it just wasnt worth fooling around with. They kept saying we would have to set it up with battery changes and it is way too much work and I think the product is defective.

Don't waist your time and money.

I bought this game for my nephews - skateboard fanatics.

After many hours on X-mas day trying to get the thing "synched" or "calibrated", they had to give up.

It simply would not work at all.

Quite a bummer!!

To Amazon's credit, however, they make returns amazingly easy.

We'll see how long it takes for the refund.
