I love the R.E. franchise and henceforth bought this. This would be a fun action game under a different title. I say this because RE5 plays more like an action game than a survival horror one. Part of what takes away from the eerie/scariness that the franchise is known for, is the addition of Sheva. For me it's not as scary when you have someone else with you all the time. It loses the isolation experience of earlier games. And the in-game interactions between Chris and Sheva are kinda corny and over acted. Like when you tell her to pick up some ammo or something on the ground. But I DO love the fact that you can strafe left and right which makes looking and moving around easier and less of a chore. It does have amazing graphics and the setting looks beautiful, but the setting loses the dark creepiness of old. if you're looking for a cool action game with crazed villagers to kill, I'd say pick this up. But if you're looking for a satisfying Resident Evil game, I can't say you'd find it here.
When RE4 came out, I was hooked! I thougth that there would never be another game like it. Little did I know that only 4 years later, a game would come out that would change that opinion. Every thing about this game is GREAT!!!!! Even if your not really in to games with zombies in it, it still is a awesome action game. It is not so much scary than it is just plain INSANE!!!!! For those of you hardcore Resident Evil fans that really liked the originals better than RE4, then maybe this just isn't the game for you (but give it a whirl anyways!). It really doesn't have that classic Resident Evil feeling that you're "always afraid that something is going to jump out at you." That's what makes the game so great. It gives you that feeling when you're least expecting it. Throughout the whole game, I NEVER wished "come on, just end already!" Throughout the whole game you are always on the edge. Whether it's the Chainsaw Majini, the 800 pound Bat, or the Giant Majini that is in the Marshlands that just randomly jumps out and goes "AH LA LA LA LA LA", Resident Evil 5 is just a great game!
I absolutely loved resident evil 4 but 5 is very disappointing. The graphics move really slow and it just isnt that much fun. I really wish they would come out with an extention of resident evil 4. I would pay double just to have it. Video games are a nice diversion from an otherwise stressful life
Resident Evil 5 is very similar to Resident Evil 4 regarding the game play, but obviously the graphics are amazing and you have a partner, which actually bothered me at first, but which I now appreciate.
For all fans of the series Resident Evil, this is a must !
Strongly recommended!
However, I would also recommend to complete Resident Evil 4 before this one, for those who haven't done it yet.
One critic though: the main character (Chris Redfield from Resident Evil 1) is a little too muscled... I preferred a thinner body size, such as that of Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil 4. But I forgot this little inconvenience very quick while playing...
Now I have played many many games. Superhero ones, shooters, and rpgs. This game is the best looking game i ever played. The controls are fantastic. I played other resident evils and have always been a big fan of the series.
Heres how i rank the ones i played:
1.) Resident Evil 5
2.)Resident Evil Remake for gamecube
3.) Resident Evil 4 gamecube
4.) Resident Evil Zero gamecube
Buy this game. Online is great, it looks amazing, it scared the crap out of me, and the story is awesome for resident evil fans. The end sequences were insane. I loved it and will be playing this for a very long time... Online coop is awesome too. I could go on and on but thats all i got to say. Jill Valentine is my all time fav by the way. PEACE
I love this game. It's not repetitive, and you can play with a buddy is where the fun really begins. Helping your friend escape near death or running from a boss gets your heart really going! I recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of the Resident Evil series or just pure shooting down the baddies~
I didn't really play RE from the beginning. I played around with the first RE a bit, but got bored with it just because of having to conserve ammo and all that. I'm not what people would consider a 'Serious Gamer", but I like playing games none the less, I just find that the more they pack into a game, the more of a headache it is to play.
With that said, I LOVED RE4. Over all it was just well done, it was fun to play, and being able to play it over and over is a plus, I'm still playing it off and on. So I was very excited for RE5 and the day it came out I ran to get my reserved copy. While the game looks amazing (PS/3 Here) I was very disappointed in the game play. I personally find the controls VERY different from RE4 and a LOT harder to get use to. Right off the bat you are thrown into a scene where you are being descended upon by a whole mob. Good luck on doing any good with that if the controls are screwing you up. On top of that, there's another character with you that you need to watch out for which is something that I find VERY annoying. Those 2 things right there just ruined the game for me right off the bat. I only played the game for about a half hour and not getting past that first mob because I couldn't master the controls, I had enough.
I turned it off and have not turned it back on since. I have been thinking about giving it another try, but not sure it's going to be worth it. If that's the kind of game play to expect for the rest of the game I'm not sure I will be that interested in it.
I'm glad that some people liked the game, but this one was a HUGE let down to me after how much fun I found RE4 to be..
So far it's awesome... The controls were a little tough at first, then I changed the scheme to the RE4 scheme, and it's smooth sailing from there.
Fantastic game and probably my favorite out of the series, Ive played 1-4 and like this one mainly because it is the most replayable RE. I do miss the scares and puzzles in the earlier titles but looking back now they really were only fun the first and second run through. Theres much more gunplay, crowds of enemies and intense moments in RE5 making use of all the weapons available (and to upgrade). Gameplay is very similar to RE4 but I like the environment and enemies better in this one. If I were to try to explain it, RE4 felt a bit more mystical whereas RE5 feels more tactical, focusing more on firepower because of faster, more lethal enemies. The new inventory system felt a bit iffy to me at first but is pretty good once you get the hang of it, I definitely like the quick weapon switching. My only real complaint is that it is shorter than RE4 but again there is a good amount of replay value considering all the unlockables, weapon upgrades and difficulty settings. Also I just recently started getting into the mercenaries mode which is incredibly fun and addictive, nothing like chain blasting hordes of zombies with the magnum and shotguns. Graphics and cutscenes are beautiful as well, one of the best looking games Ive seen. In conclusion, this is the one game I felt was worth the full retail price. If you liked the new direction RE4 took then I think you will enjoy this one.
I've played several RE games over the years (1, 2, 3, 4, Umbrella Chronicles) and have enjoyed them for the most part. The moment I popped RE5 in my PS3 I was immediately underwhelmed by the game play. Visually it was stunning, not doubts there. Maybe I've been spoiled by Gears of War and Uncharted. The ability to run and gun adds an extra dimension to game play that every other 3rd person or 1st person shooter provides these days (you can't do that in RE5). Realistically, I'm not going to stand there and try to shoot zombies as they come after me. I'm going to keep moving while I'm shooting to keep them away from me. Duh. I guess I can understand why Capcom wanted to keep some of the same elements from previous games to satisfy fans, but it's time to evolve.
There is little to no scare factor in this game. When I first started playing and had my character walk down various streets I waited in anticipation for monsters to jump out at me. That didn't happen. I could see the zombies coming from a mile away. Yawn.
A lot of other troublesome details have already been described by other reviewers, so I won't droan on about them. Suffice it to say, you should probably rent this first to see if it's your cup of tea.
Resident Evil 5 is the long awaited new entry in the Resident Evil series and like many my expectations were through the roof. After getting hooked onto the series with Resident Evil 4 (one of the best games I've ever played), I soon snapped up copies of the other games for the Gamecube, once again having an experience with the first game and a good romp through the second and third. All caught up with the series, I got my copy of the new game and after a solid week of playing, come up with my consensus.
You take control of Chris Redfield, one of the original protaganist in the first game, now a member of the BSAA, a special group devoted to the eradication of bio-terrorism, as he is sent to Africa to investiagte a string of ominous events that may have something to do with the events that transpired in the last game. You are given a partner, Sheva Alomar, who will assist you as you make your way through hordes of ravenous villains, difficult bosses, and fast pace action to uncover the truth.
First off, Resident Evil never looked so good. If you thought the graphics in the Gamecube reboot or RE4 were awesome, then you haven't seen anything yet. The graphics are absolutly stunning, I mean orgasmicly (did I spell that right?) good. The characters are sharply rendered, movement so fluid, clothes so real, I mean the producers truly went all out on this game, injecting as much detail as they could into this game.
Other then the graphics though, RE5 left me a bit dissapointed. For me, this whole game acted more like an expansion pack of RE4, with nothing there to truly distance itself from the other game to make it a stand alone. Also, as far as scare facor goes, I give this game about a four out of ten, the game relying mostly on cheap, jump out of nowhere scares.
Next is Sheva, who I am very split on. For those playing co-op, she can be a valuable assist, having someone watch your back in case combat gets too hectic. While I think this takes away a bit from the tension factor, it's still a nice addition. Now when you get to solo play, things get frusturating. While she is good to have for added fire power and carrying around items, she can be a bit of a nuesance. Though she comes with two commands that will have her be less or more aggresive, either way, she still burns through a lot of ammo and by the time the chapter is over, you find yourself trying to compenaste for her gun happy ways. Overall, Sheva is more suited for co-op game play.
The biggest gripe I have with the game is the inventory system. Gone is the grid system from the last game and instead your given something reminicent of the original games style, with nine inventory slots that can hold guns, herbs, and a certian amount of ammo. Okay, cool, I can deal with that. What I can't deal is the added cruch of trying to exchange stuff with my partner by having to bring up the inventory slot, selecting an item and then exchanging for stuff, which wastes valuable time if your in the middle of a hectic battle. Really producers? If you were trying to make things more suspensfull, then it fell flat.
While RE5 may not exceed past its predecesor, it is still a tension filled ride that will please every big RE fan.
Resident Evil 5 is very additve. I can not put this game down. Graphics are great. And can get very intense at times and you start to worry what is around the next corner...
This is not Resident Evil. This is a third-person action shooter. Does it follow in the steps of the Resident Evil storyline? Barely. This game is basically about this group of people harnessing a new virus similar to the one in RE4, and Chris along with his new partner are chosen to stop them. This is about how deep the story gets. You'll run into a couple familiar faces, including your final showdown with Wesker, but really this is a very poorly-done chapter of the Resident Evil series. As a stand-alone game it's great at what it does, but even as a fan of #4, I felt like this game was almost ridiculous at times...and boring at others. At least #4 constantly had you coming to places where you were like "Oh, I love this room" or "Man, I hate this part." This game, not so much. Every area was either just more of the same or ridiculously difficult. Remember the mini-gun and chainsaw guys from #4? [...]
As an old school RE fan I felt like I needed to play this game for closure, but trust me...if you like and appreciate the older games, just respect the fact that Wesker finally gets done in here...don't experience it. I don't want anyone else to be disappointed like I was. Oh, and Sheva...why the hell was she in this game? Couldn't they have brought back Claire or something? I mean, honestly...she does not deserve to be in the same league as Jill after being in this lackluster title...
Without words, one of the best and excellent additions to the Resident Evil saga!! Way awesome graphics and very very sweet! Since Resident Evil 4, THESE ARE THE BEST GRAPHICS I HAVE SEEN FOR THE SERIES! You can customize your controller layout which is pretty good for the people used to the RE 4 controllers. My recommendation for this game is that if you are a true RE fan, don't doubt it, just buy it. Amazing and a true masterpiece to every gamers collection. But also I recommend playing RE (Resident Evil) 4 for you to know what is happening and understand the story line arc. Serious recommendations for it, I have a PS3 and it blows away everything!
One word best describes this game ... awesome ! The storyline is good ... the gameplay everything the last time i played a good resident evil was resident evil 1 and 4 .
Buy it
