Great game and great series. A lot of people write off this game as a kids game or dismiss it for being too cartoony. I really wish those same people would give this game a shot, its filled with great characters, great writing, and gameplay that is a fun as anything out there now. Part shooter, platformer, a schmup, and puzzle game, this title makes them all come together as a seamless experience. For me, it is R&C's lighthearted feel that makes it like slipping on a pair of comfortable pants and is worth its weight in bolts. My highest recommendation.
Loved Tools of Destruction ? then you'll love this too! Can't stop playing it.
I have enjoyed the Rachet Clank games from the start: unbelievable graphics, interesting story, and fun gameplay. I gave this game 5 stars, as I was impressed with the whole package overall, though I enjoyed the last game more, more action. But this one is great for all ages, no swearing or bad stuff for the kids, pretty comedic for the adults. Highly recommend this game.
Ratchet and Clank team up again to save the universe from another bumbling villain. Lots of unique weapons and some creative time puzzles differentiate this game from the previous lot, yet somehow it all feels very familiar. If you're a R&C fan this game is a must play. New to the series... don't worry, you'll miss a few inside jokes but the new zany dialog and weapons might mean you have more fun than R&C regulars.
Absolutely an incredible game. I love this game. I am 35 and a life long gamer. I miss platformers. They've been my favorite type of game through the years. I don't care for FPS or RTS or most "online" endeavors. I like the story, the cutscenes, the dialog, the graphics, the puzzle solving, the characters, the jumping, exploring, completion of tasks, etc. Luckily, if you own a PS3, you get this dying breed of game. The Wii and especially the xbox 360 lack them. Uncharted 1 & 2, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank Series, and InFamous were all not only great games, but the best games I have ever played. Incredible games. The effort in musical score, level design, challenge, reward, puzzle development, artistry in the scenes, voice work, etc. are at an unprecedented level in gaming. You lose yourself in them like never before and simply have...FUN. A crack in Time stands out as a truly brilliant piece of gaming with the time manipulation elements being pure genius by Insomniac. Kudos to Insomniac for making this game, Sony for supporting platforming, and you for looking to buy it! HAVE FUN...with ALL AGES, ALL SEXES, ALL CREEDS. This game is a BLAST! (Literally) :)
Not much to say. If you love all the other R&C games, this one will not disappoint you. Get it!
As a fan of the series ( I've played all of them except one) I can say that this is hands down the best one yet! The controls are tight , the graphics are gorgeous, and the story is great! Oh, don't forget the weapons! Thay are crazy as always! The final thing i will say is It is like playing a pixar movies! Fun times will be had by players of all ages and if you are curious I would advise to go ahead and check it out it will be a blast!
This is a typical game in this series, meaning it is incredibly good. They have made an open arena to fly around in, alot of cool new gadgets, and if you have HDTV it is in 720p. My only complaint is the game is over pretty quickly, unless you like going to a bunch of moons instead of planets. How about a longer story next time Insomniac!!!!
I was unsure as to how much I would enjoy this entry in the ratchet and clank universe. The time puzzles seemed like an interesting idea but i was worried that it would slow down the pace of the game. Well I'm glad to say that they were great. There are a few that will frustrate you for a bit, but not to the point were you want to put your controller down. The ratchet sections are more of what we love from the series. There is a lot of action and many of the battles are immense. I played this game to completion achieving 100 percent of the trophies. I played on the hardest difficulty and can say that the entire game took me about fifteen hours to complete. What's also nice is that you can unlock a hardcore difficulty so there's more to come back to if you so desire.
I'll keep this review short. Having played through tools of destruction. I have been a die hard ratchet and clank fan ever since. I didn't think any game could top tools of destruction. Well A crack in time I think is even better! There's alot more variety and although it feels like ratchet and clank through and through it adds alot of neat new stuff to the table. This is yet just another reason to own a PS3. Great job insomniac.........you guys never disappoint.
I've heard many people say in reviews and gaming forums that this title isn't as good as Tools of Destruction, so I would like to offer my own thoughts on the matter:
After completely playing through A Crack in Time, I played through the first few levels of TOD again (a game I've played through 4-5 times, but not in a while). I will agree with ACIT detractors that TOD's story definitely starts out better with its great opening sequence. By comparison ACIT is a bit slow. However, the graphics of ACIT clearly exceed those of TOD (which were pretty good to begin with). There's just more texture, detail, and colors.
Once you get the hoverboots in ACIT (early in the story), that's where the game really takes off, literally and figuratively. It is so much fun zooming around, bashing through crates, and flying around in them. I used them every chance I could.
The space battles in ACIT are also a much welome improvement over TOD's, which I totally dreaded. With ACIT, you have a greater variety of weapons and defenses as you level up, perform a variety of "good samaritan" missions, visit moons for clever platforming and bolt/zoni hunting opportunities, and blast away at hordes of enemy ships.
While I did like the way you could purchase weapons upgrades in TOD, the customization opportunities in ACIT is a cool alternative. Weapons in ACIT in general are pretty much like TOD, some are great and really fun to use, some are frustrating and a complete waste of time.
I am also one of those people that really enjoyed the Clank sections in ACIT. While it does tend to break up the story's momentum at times, it was still a lot of fun to use Clank's scepter to fix things, bash crates and fight various enemies. I also really enjoyed the platforming/puzzle sequences in which you had to replicate Clank to execute a number of actions and trigger switches to open a door.
Like TOD, there is an exceptional amount of replay value. It took me 25 some odd hours to get through ACIT on normal difficulty while collecting all the bolts/zoni/etc., winning all the Battleplex tournaments, playing My Blaster Runs Hot, visiting all the moons, completing all the extra missions, and engaging in all the space battles. And I still have completing the game in Challenge Mode, on the Hard Difficulty setting, and earning all the skill points to look forward to.
If you like fun action/platformers that offer tons of replayability and variety of gameplay, this is a AAA must-buy title.
A Crack In Time is the best installment in the series yet. I really enjyed myself playing this game, the graphics are amazing and it feels like your actually plying a pixar movie, the story is always good and quite hilarious, but the gameplay really steps it up. You can do so much i especially enjoyed traveling to different moons and collecting items. Clank part of the game is just as fun but the puzzles can get tedious. All in all if you love ratchet and clank you have to add this to your collection.
Similar to the previous game but different enough to be a lot of fun, a lot of new fun weapons, new characters, interesting story line; like visiting an old friend but with new tales.
Every year or two, Insomniac drops another Ratchet & Clank upon us, and every time, I tell myself that I'm done with the series. Platformers have always captured my imagination more than any other genre, and it's not as if the series' trademark funky guns/double jumping formula doesn't work. But with the first two Future games - Tools of Destruction and Quest for Booty - something felt off. They were well-made and came close to the idealized Pixar visual standard, but the action itself hadn't evolved much since the PS2 days. You can only strafe around so many aliens before you begin to long for something more. And with A Crack in Time, we finally got just enough new content to justify picking up the OmniWrench once again.
However, this isn't immediately apparent when the game starts up. Despite amassing a half-dozen incredible arsenals over the years, Ratchet begins with yet another pea-shooter and bomb glove, while Clank has his own segments that seem far-removed from the rest of the adventure. The latter sections hint at some time-bending puzzles to come, but the extent of this new style doesn't become apparent until a few hours of play.
The Future trilogy started out exploring Ratchet's lombax roots before separating the titular heroes in the second downloadable installment. A Crack in Time picks up with Clank defending a clock tied to the heart of the universe and Ratchet hot on his trail. Ratchet is aided by a fallen lombax hero, General Azimuth, who believes he can use this "Great Clock" to right the wrongs of the past. Once you get past some early tedium, this clock reveals itself to be one of the game's biggest innovations.
Like indie gem Braid and the upcoming The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, A Crack in Time allows Clank to record copies of himself. Early puzzles are pretty obvious; an early example might have Clank using a recording to hold down a switch so that he can pass through a door. But these segments later require a reliable thinking cap, as the number of switches and obstacles between Clank and the door increase dramatically. Though all of these rooms can be solved with a little patience and keen observation, it's impressive that Insomniac was able to integrate such intricate puzzles into a series known for shooting first and thinking about it never.
Ratchet's segments, which make up the bulk of the game, have also been upgraded. While the planetside stuff is familiar - move from point A to point B while buying an upgrading weapons - the spaceship rides in between are no longer so linear. There are four or five different sectors to which you can warp, and each one has its own sidequests, hidden items and mini-levels that you can explore whenever you want. This galaxy isn't exactly a sandbox, but it's more open than any other R&C games.
And while the guns are pretty ordinary - even the belching monster gun, by series' standards - the new rocket boots allow you to speed through battles with newfound agility. Many planets have been designed as jet boot obstacle courses, and you have a level of control not seen during lame rail-grinds.
By the end of the game, most of the minor blights associated with the series are erased. Even the storytelling improves. While I've recently said that Ratchet is to Dreamworks as Sly Cooper is to the more heartfelt Pixar, I found the lombax's loyalty to Clank to be endearing. Ditto for Azimuth; you see his arc coming a mile away, but his final sacrifice is still well-executed. Hell, series' ne'er-do-well Qwark even helps out for a change.
Without spoiling anything, I can say that Future concludes on a high note, and I'm eager to see where Insomniac goes from here. This universe is far more colorful than the one established in Resistance, and the time-related tomfoolery could probably be expanded into its own game. With infinite stretches of space for a canvas, Insomniac could take Ratchet & Clank into any direction from here.

Initial setup took some time as title required a download to start. Download then install kept failing. Had to try several times and finally got to play. Game working fine now and each revision gets better and better.
