The PS3 USB ports dont work correctly / they dont charge the controllers ... both controllers ran for 15 hours then dead! The NYKO PS3 guitars we bought for GuitarHero stopped working after software upgrade
2nd day after Christmas.
The online SONY PS3 Warranty website had not the model 250G in its dropdown menu so I hope they warranty out this. I had PS ,PS2 (which been the worst gameconsol ever) and now in for a 'fresh new start again' ...XBox anyone???
I didn't buy it for games, but mainly for media streaming and Blue-Ray. So this review does not reflect its gaming capabilities.
With media streaming - photos and music streamed beautifully (I use an HP EX495 1.5TB Mediasmart Home Server ( Black) media server (tried one or more of Tversity, Twonky Media, Windows Media, PS3 Media servers) and D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Wireless Router). Video streaming over this wireless network has been quite poor, choppy and unreliable (main reason for getting this PS3 - please Google "PS3 and choppy video" - it is a common problem). While one could fiddle with settings, transcode media manually, etc. etc. to make it work, it is too much hassle for something that should run out of box. Conversion to mobile versions on media servers stream fine, though not large AVI files.
NetFlix streaming has been wonderful, and better than Roku because of better access to more movies. Didn't check Blu-Ray so no comment there.
HOWEVER, lately the PS3 started going blank - just a black TV screen. Usual approaches of restarting, unplugging-plugging, pressing ON-OFF from the console, or controller, or remote didn't work. It happened once, but then it started working fine on its own after a while. After a few days, the same black screen returned, but it wouldn't recover. Wasted too much time on a so-called entertainment system. Returning this dead PS3 to either get an XBox or settle for a dedicated Digital Media Adapter instead. Very disappointed - but much thankful to Amazon for their awesome return policies - PS3 and remote are going back.
I do miss the backwards compatibility, and out of the box there were enough bugs that it couldn't even process sound smoothly, froze up on every game played in it, Uncharted 2, Borderlands, Orange Box, etc. Loads times are unheard of long. After several updates over a 2 week period the sound smoothed out and no more freeze ups, load times are still painfully long. I bought this unit to replace an 80GB 4USB "Fully Backwards Compatible " Unit, and the controllers I used on the 80GB will no connect to the 250GB unit even using the charge cord to connect it, when they do finally connect the directional pad (up right down left) buttons have no function and the controllers are numbered 5 or 7. Over all, sony hit it line drive, no more out of the park products from Sony in a while, even their tv's and cameras have been down graded from their usual level of quality, their PC's still seem to be of competitive quality, but for the price, lol, buy 2 dells. Sony, I was once brand loyal, you have let me down across your spectrum of products, as for the new PS3, a $700 used 80GB with 4 USB is a far superior unit.
i order the ps3 pay extra tu ship next day they say ship vith A1 company in local delivery spend 361 lost 361$ packege never show up A1 say left in door in porch well i don't have porch and nothing in fron door , ben home oll day see every one coming tu me townhouse the driver never come tu me house so i lost 361 $ thanks AMAZON and A-1 International i never cona order from AMAZON again this is the worsest service ever .
My new Ps3 250g had arrived on Christmas Eve with great excitement. Turn on the power button for the first time and receive this error message "The hard disk's file system is corrupted and will be restored" and then it asks me to format the hard drive. During the formatting process the system freezes at 99%. I'd tried formatting the harddrive 3-4 times but still recieved the same error messages.
On Christmas day, I'd called Sony Playstation 3 tech support, and we went through a series of troubleshooting (no luck). The sony technician was unable to fix my issue therefore they will be sending out a prepaid package to my house so I can mail my console back to be fix/repair. He also mention that this error message only occur for use system, and not brand new system. (Did amazon send me a used ps3 after I pay for a new one) What really upset me the most... is that I had purchased a brand new console and I got a defective system in return. Also, the tech stated that If Sony could not fix my Ps3 then they will send me a Certified Approve System (NOT A BRAND NEW ONE THAT I PURCHASED FOR STRAIGHTOUT OF THE FACTORY) but a used one, a pre-owned system. That doesn't seem fair to me. I am not happy
"Side note" I will try to return this item back to amazon for a replacement beside Sony.
I got my PS3 250GB a couple of weeks ago and am extremely disappointed. At this point I am assuming I simply got a defective unit, as the behavior cannot be normal. I first had problems when installing Uncharted2. Either playing the game before installing the patch, or trying to install the patch at the beginning will quickly lead to a frozen system. Same with Assassin's Creed 2. System seems to get way too hot (>65C) very quickly, though fan appears to be working. Again, perhaps I simply got a defective unit.
Just a heads up on the 250GB model. NEVER and i mean never pay over 350 for one. Amazon is allowing price gouging. Just have patience if your local stores are out. 466 is far to much money. think about it, Sony does not include a HDMI or a game with it, so you are still looking at about $550 out the door for somthing that is supposed to cost $350. I called my local ultimate electronics and best buy, BOTH confirmed thtat the 250GB was sold out, BUT does infact, cost $350. Sweet job on runing off a potential buyer amazon! I will also be contacting sony and letting them know about these buissness practices.
PLAY STATION 3/250 GB ~ The recipient is a seasoned 'gamer' and I felt just awful when the excitement went down the drain....New and out of the box an "Error" message came up and the PS3 was unusable. He called Sony who told him he could send it in to them and they would fix it or send him a 'reconditioned' one! (WHAT THE HECK??) I had just paid for a new one, with an additional $350.00 of accessories and games and they will "send him a used/aka, "been broken box" in 6-12 weeks!" Well, the PS3 is packed up, in transit and when it finally gets 'credited' back to my account I will send him the $$$ to buy a new one. This is a product better bought LOCALLY than on line. If that had happened in the first place he could have taken it back immediately, exchanged the gift for another new PS3 and been enjoying it! (* I don't know much about game systems but the Sony guy informed my son that his was NOT an isolated incident with this particular box). Hope this helps you!
Not only was I completely underwhelmed by the menus and the chunkiness of the GUI... I wasted the better part of two days trying to get it to connect to my wireless network and to the Sony remote purchased separately. I did a number of searches on tech support sites and was on the phone with Verizon with no solution at hand. While it is likely I got a defective unit, there are a number of people extremely frustrated with the difficulty in setting these up to a wireless network. If you cannot run an Ethernet to the back - proceed with caution. Note - my kids have a wii and I was able to set that up in under 10 minutes and it works flawlessly with our home network.
I've never had such a bad experience as I did this time on Amazon.com. I ordered this PS3 for my son's birthday. Paid $300 and got absolutely nothing. I am now waiting for Amazon to get my money back. Needless to say, I am very hesitant to ever do business again on Amazon.com. It only takes one very bad experience to make you wary of doing this kind of transaction ever again.
The PS3 is over rated...There is all this talk of Xbox 360 RRoD, but what about PS3? My PS3, all of a sudden stopped reading any media. It's a little over two years old and I really took care of it. Now, I have to pay $150 to get it repaired...Microsoft did not charge anything to fix my 360. The more people that i talk to, the more I realize that the PS3 is not very reliable. I paid $400 for a device, to last two years...

My Ps3 still works because I have not updated it. I have friends whose ps3s died after the 3.00-3.10-3.15 updates.....My advice, if you're thinking about buying a PS3, don't update it. Sony won't resolve the issue, they don't give a damn about their customers.
I posted the link to the playstation3 board, so you guys can read for yourselves. 800 People and counting, can't be wrong.
As for the 360, it just plain sucks, just like the ps3. It'll die on you, they don't last long, trust me. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!!!!
I purchased a ps3 console. it worked well until the warranty was up, then i just bought god of war 111.
the console started to download the game when it stopped and said to call customer service, they said to send the console in for repair for the price of $180.00 with shipping.the console worked fine before i tryed GOW111 now it wont play any of my old games ether.
so their own software caused the problem. but i must pay for their junk wrecking my console.
