I was a little hesitant considering the $350 with the bigger hard drive but whatever hardrive size you get, this machine is AWESOME. Blu-Ray, internet, game console all top of the line. Probably one of the best "extras" is the fact that you can also sign up for netflix and stream it straight to your tv. No downloading, just add it to your list and watch. Again this machine is A+++++.
PS3 is great! I love it would recommend to others. Shipped out in a timely manner and arrived in excellent condition!
I believe that people who own a 360, and people who just own this (a PS3) should just get along and see the real threat...the Nintendo Wii lol. Anyways, I've had this system for a good week now, and I am just in awe how rich colors are, and how much fun Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is on the PS3. Sony has yet again out-done themselves. Does this mean that the PS3 is superior than the XBOX 360? No, it just means that it is more versatile than the XBOX 360. Look at it this way, if you're an advent gamer, who prides his or herself in buying a next-gen console that will fulfill their craving for explosions, high-intense moments, and out-of-this-world graphics, then I suggest both systems, because you'll never be satisfied owning just one and not the other...kinda like Married w/ Children (cheap pop!).
The PS3 is a must buy this holiday season simply because changes are coming in the form of exclusive titles being port over from *coughs* XBOX 360 (don't listen to the fan boys about it not happening, it's a billion-dollar business, and profits must be had...case and point Metal Gear Solid Rising), update to the chat & party system (you'll experience XBOX Live like chatting and party-gaming), and even more unknown, yet high anticipated titles being released (i.e. Hard Rain and Mag). I've own every Playstation that Sony has ever made (some even from Japan), and I've been happy with every one of them. What people fail to see is that Sony has set trends that others either improve, meet, and may beat, yet Sony has never made a bad system no one wants to buy. This is a Blu-Ray player, video-game system, web-browser, and media player all-in-one. Your son will never leave his room, your daughter will love Zach Efron and the Twlight Sagas in full 1080P, your husband will secretly be playing Uncharted while you're sleeping, and your wife won't admit that she loves Killzone 2 while having unlocked a 100% on it. This is an awesome machine that does it all! I have both a 360 and a PS3 now, and I must say that there's a slight difference, but nothing huge that makes one system better than the other. This system is perfect for those with an XBOX 360, or just getting a new system. I highly recommend picking this, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, and Infamous this Christmas...best decision I've ever made. I recommend the 250GB PS3 Slim only to those who download a lot of extra content, but not enough to shoot past 100GBs. Another reason why I like the PS3...you can swap-out your hard drive to upgrade to a 500GB hard drive! Just make sure is a SATA notebook hard drive with 5400RPMs, b/c anything else will not work with Sony's PS3 OS.
BTW! Make sure you pick-up an XtremeMac HDMI cable (or any HDMI 1.3 Category 2 cable will do...I just like XtremeMac's accessories...BTW do not be too cheap w/ HDMI cables, make sure it's a Category 2...trust me), or Sony's Component Cable as Sony was too cheap to give you a Hi-Def cable. To me this was the only negative, but this, taking-out the backwards capability (playing PS1 and PS2 games on the PS3), removing extra USB ports, and taking-out the memory slots helped keep the cost affordable so they could help out us very "thrifty" gamers lol.
In the words of my 18 year old son, "Dude, this thing does everything!" All other game systems (save the computer) were sold off to buy more PS 3 games. Not much more to say!
Not only do you get a great gaming system, but you get a web browser, blu-ray player, music video and picture streamer. You get free online gaming, unlike xbox 360. The system is smaller, slimmer, more energy efficient and doesn't overheat. Overall A+. Satisfies kids and adults both.
By now, the PS3 has been extensively reviewed and this latest iteration (the "slim") has been out in the 120gb format for 2 months now (since September 1st, 2009).
To summarize the benefits:
- Slimmer, lighter, and more energy efficient than the prior "fat" PS3
- Blu-ray player built-in
- Netflix streaming (yay!)
- Free online service (vs. subscription based X-box live)
The negatives:
- No backwards compatibility with PS2 games
- Bluetooth remote only (and not included, so need to purchase a remote to use as a dvd/blu-ray player, no IR (but a number of bluetooth-to-IR solutions like Logitech Harmony Adapter or Infra-red to Bluetooth Adapter)
- No more Linux support
With Blu-ray player prices now dropping to the $100-$150 range, the PS3 makes for an expensive option as a Blu-ray player only. As a home media center player/HTPC device, it really shines and is a great deal (you can't build a HTPC with a blu-ray player for less). It IS somewhat limited, however, as a HTPC as its browser is not up to par. Too bad Sony dropped linux support for the PS3. The addition of Netflix streaming (currently requiring a disc but supposedly becoming native in a future firmware update) just ices this cake.
Bought as a gift for a close pal who hesitated getting a Blu-Ray for his HD home theater. Sorry I didn't get one for myself, especially now that Blu-Ray movies are down to $13. The firmware update feature makes this one of the best ways to go. Serious video guys want menus to tweak the picture, serious movie fans want to sit and enjoy the film. The second group should be using one of these, plus it plays games!
I bought the PS3 250 GB a few months ago after my 1st gen 60GB PS3 kicked the bucket (dead video card, probably). Anyway, the new PS3 rocks. No bugs, No running out of space any time soon. Awesome graphics and amazing high definition sound too. Works seemlessly with my Sony Bravia TV using Sony Sync Technology, which is a nice added feature if you happen to have a Sony TV (will automatically sync with the PS3 when you put in a DVD or Blu Ray disc or game, or even when you just turn on the device).
So many reviewers have talked well about the many great features already that I won't go into that. One point I could make is that I wish it also had a headphone jack. But other than that it is a flawlessly designed machine, so far. Definitely the best choice if one is looking for a blu ray player. Even if one is not into the games, the PS3 is a great device for storing digital media such as photos, movies and music, and for browsing the Sony Playstation store, from where one can download HD movies (rent or buy) right to the PS3, as well as games. It is really great! Movies take an hour or two to download but are spectacular in full 1080P HD. Really fun stuff! And then there is Playstation-Home, where one can get immersed in a virtual world, meet real people and play games online. It's pretty fun. So no matter what you are into there is bound to be a happy place on the PS3 for you. They have thought of pretty much everything. If you use it for playing your music tracks it has a nice visualizer (digital lava lamp type deal) which looks great on a large screen (especially if you have a front projector with a full-wall screen). Handy at parties for lots of visual impact, which goes nicely with the HD music experience.
The games are, of course, the main attraction on the PS3, with incredible graphics and sound, and the dualshock controller really delivers (glad to have rumble feature back). Very intuitive controls with lots of amazing games to choose from. There just aren't enough hours in the day.
My first purchase of gaming system, but had nice blu-ray player and this does maovie every bit as good. Love gaming graphics and game play, but still learning more about it. High quality system and could definitely recommend.
I finally purchased a brand new Sony PS3 slim version with 250 gigabytes along with a new Sony Bravia HDTV. This made the graphics look very wholesome with a burst of colors that are very alive and vibrant. The Sony console is connected through the HDMI and the HDTV is connected to my amplifier. It made my gaming experience very exciting and I am happy with my PS3. The Sony PS3 with 250 gigabytes is sold out. Do yourself a favor. Buy the new PS3 console and you will have no regrets.

The first one my grandson got was defective. I had no problem getting it replaced with a new one.
This version of PS3 is more quite, frendly with the enviroment (use less energy) and with 250GB lots of music, movies and pictures to access in any moment.
I bought the PlayStation for the Blu-Ray player. It is one of the best players on the market. You can buy a player cheaper but you don't get the added feature of being able to play games. I was not a game player when I bought the machine but I received a game for Christmas and I must admit it is a nice additional feature. Some of the new games are quite sophisticated and fun to play. So with this device you can play old DVD's, Blu-Ray DVD's and get games as well. Not a bad deal for the price.
Love it.. Got it within 24 hours... was able to purchase the game for the amt that i would have paid going to the store for a less gb.
what a time consumer this product is.... i bought this product for a very close friend, he was very anxious to have it on his hands, he owned before a PS2. He is a devoted fan of gaming consoles... if i had enough money i would buy each gaming consoles on the market, he told me once. But im a devoted fan of PC games (only Half Life, Halo and Flight Simulators) and rather prefer a computer keyboard and a mouse than a game controller or pad. He teased me with Half Life Orange Box version on a 42" plasma TV.... was f#$%@$#% awesome, graphics were incredible, that day i didnt wanted to leave his house... now you know what i meant with time consumer ????? He is looking forward to buy the remote control to watch Blue-Ray movies.. ill let you know when the time comes. And i do recommend this product !!!!!
