I have never owned a Playstation in my life. I had played off of the original playstation like ten years ago. I have always been an Xbox/PC fan, but decided that I needed a playstation 3 so that I could play Heavy Rain when it comes out. Good thing I waited, because this awesome slim version came out with all this memory. The machine is delightful! The internet is free (unlike Xbox Live) and it looks great in HD on my big screen TV. It also plays blue-ray flawlessly. If you are going to get a Playstation 3, go with this model!!

Seriously, for the same price as this version (250GB) you can get the 120GB version, spend 60 more bucks for a 500GB Harddrive. Exact same amazing console, twice the storage, same great price! Even if the 500GB drive you find is more than 60 bucks, remember you're getting a Blu-Ray player and Free Online Play!

As a Whole is an amazing price and value, Ps3 always had this amazing value, previously had an 80GB backwards compatible, but while in a storm a thunder burned it with my DVD. Then this option came out. My 80GB where always full so I had to delete things every week, demos, movies, music etc.. And for these price, I get 250GB!!!! I know I can chage de Hard Drive, but I really dont want to(laizy I know), there for this option was the one for me, both PS3 are excelent price point. Plus, incredibly silent, it doesnt have backwards compatibility sadly, but its not that bad. PS3 games have become for my opinion far better than those on 360, exclusives etc, and some third party also. But its good to have both choices. I just dont like Microsoft products, its far more expensive in the end, always.

Have had the PS3 for almost 3 weeks now and don't have anything bad to say, other than falling asleep waiting for an install....

I owned an Xbox 360 for almost 2 years and just picked up the PS3 for a Blu Ray player as i just purchased a 50" Plasma. Right off I have to say the PS3 seems much quieter when it comes to the optical drive and overall fan noise so I am already impressed seeing that was one of my main concerns when trying to watch a movie not wanting to hear the whine of your player.

One thing that Xbox handles a bit better is the game installations. Xbox appears to install the game completely and only accesses the disk one time for authentication at boot but the PS3 appears to access the disk regardless. Now maybe i just missed something but doesn't seem to be a way to have no acess to the disk once installed on the PS3. With that being said it's almost a moot point seeing how quiet the drive / fan are so it's really not that big of a deal.

Other than that having the 250gig HDD is sweet as i don't forsee needing much more than that but like the idea that if wanted a larger HDD (haven't checked how much the PS3 actually supports) that i can just buy one and install. Unlike the Xbox and there proprietary HDD which the prices for them are ridiculous when compared to similar sized 2.5" drives.

So all in all the PS 3 rocks even with me being an overall Xbox fan. It does it all.... Gaming, Blu-Ray (pretty sweet on the plasma in 1080p), Netflix (with a disk at the moment, app soon to come), Internet and able streaming almost all media from the PC directly.

A definite buy.

Oh wait, One thing to note is the controller... I think it's kind of "Wonky" that there is no removable battery therefore if it dies i have to have another whole controller on hand or plug directly to usb and sit closer / buy an extended usb cable... Xbox has it with removable / rechargeable 3rd party Lithium batteries.

let me start out by saying i dont have THIS model i have the 80GB, but all and all its the same. okay i said it. now on with the review. people say the system is trash, bulky, heavy ,violent playing, trouble some, and compare its graphics to 360 and its shape and size to a george foremen (apparently its a grill). but let me say ps3 has the best thing going for sony by restricting ps2 play back, PLEASE ALLOW ME TO EXPLAIN. THE LAW OF SUPPLY & DEMAND STATES "when demand is high, price soon will rise" when ps3 1st came around $600 U.S. people were hesitant to buy during the recession while he U.K. things Weren't as bad and prices rose. but when the "demand is low, price will drop to the floor." this "low" happened when ps3 sales stalled & ps2 sales continued to flow. so they stoped ps2 circulation & restricted ps2 play back for all models from there on (ps1 game gems ARE ALLOWD to play) . the price was cut dramatically as well (almost in half) to raise sales. i also studied ps3 & 360 graphics on 2 separate screens (same brand, same setting, all in all same TV)while playing the same game ps3 gives off a more vivid but a little more blurry of a picture 360s graphics were sharper but but it seemed a little washed out. inmy opinion ps3 is a winner. last but not least the violence, sony did not have really violent games in the beginning of ps1 sony again going by supply & demand saw the demand of gory, bloody violence, the type that makes you sick to you re stomach to me that kills the "play" in PLAYstation (thus i gave 3 stars) i remember Atari, NES, and the arcade master sega back when games weren't cut neck, stab and paint the walls red, not going in much detail of other graphic detail of rape ,sex (yes there is a difference between rape and sex) , perfect woman imagery(what makes a girl "hot" in other words) , abuse, gang relations, profanity(bad words, cursing same thing) & substance abuse (like prescribed drugs and alcohol) & all in a life of a convict or criminal (if you think being a criminal is cool, well you cant say criminal with out saying anal) . that my reader is is the ps3 controversy in a nut shell.

A wonderful product and has worked just as described. It does take a little getting used to as the instructions could be better detailed. Setting up Internet access is a bit awkward and time consuming but once done, makes for a favorable experience. My biggest reason for choosing the Playstation 3 is the high defective rate of the XBox 360. Of the many people I know who own one, it appears they have all had problems with it. Thus far, the Sony Playstation has worked flawlessly. I also like the feel and responsiveness of the controllers, although I would advise anyone purchasing a Playstation 3 to pick up additional controllers and the associated remote to control the Blu Ray aspect of this unit. Ahh yes, the Blue Ray is wonderful.... although be sure to use a HDMI cable (extra) as opposed to the supplied RCA input cables. There is a HUGE difference in the picture quality (also noticible upon playing games).

The Sony Playstation 3 has provided a wonderful outlet for our entire family!

I bought this PlayStation 3 250GB for myself after seeing a commercial on TV. It was the one where this lady was watching a BlueRay movie, and the little boy just wanted to play a video game(he was complaining to his father?). His whining turned on deaf ears, because the lady was sitting there not moving enjoying the movie.

A light went off in my head - Hey I can watch movies too on my Sony Bravia KDL-46. I already have a Toshiba HD-DVD(gathering dust)player, and I wanted it because, Sony PlayStation 3 250GB can do other things besides play games. Voila - surf the net/watch movies/netflix(I will hold off on it for now though) etc. Who could ask for anything more?

I hope there are no other systems upcoming - we already have a WII/XBOX 360/PS3/DS & PSP.

Prior to getting the PS3, we had a Sony BluRay player, an Apple TV and a PC hooked up to our Sony Bravia LCD TV. PC was used for Netflix and backing up the Apple TV, Apple TV was used to rent and buy movies, and the Sony BluRay Player simply played BluRay DVDs. After learning about the functionality of the PS3, I was sold.

We've had it for about 2 weeks now and I am ever impressed with it's capabilities and quality. Keep in mind, this is the first type of gaming system like this we've owned (we do have a Wii but I put this in a different class). Here's my take on the various functions and their quality, smoothness and quickness of processing/playing.

Gaming - Amazing quality with no hesitations at all (playing Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2) and I've been playing quite a bit since we first got it. Like the Wii, you can download old games like Mortal Kombat II and new ones for PS3 and the PSP. Initially, I didn't think I was going to play that much but the graphics and the games have been really cool. Not much of an online player at the moment but it seems that most have this option available. Even Mortal Kombat II. You can create user profiles on the PS3 which automatically link to saved game data. Automatic and very nice. Create additional users so they can advance at their own pace.

BluRay - Discs load quicker than the Sony BluRay player we bought about 9-12 months ago. Thoroughly impressed with the quality of the picture. You can also play older discs and they'll work just fine.

Netflix - You'll need to get a disc from Netflix to be able to do this. We've watched Instant Watch movies via PC/Internet on our TV and the quality wasn't too bad. I say acceptable and sometimes the movie would freeze for a few seconds. On average about two freezes per movie. We were expecting the same thing via the PS3 but were dead wrong. The quality is AMAZING and there has not been one hiccup in the video. This really impressed us...and I'm a picky [...] so don't take that compliment lightly. :)

Renting/Buying Movies/Shows via PlayStation Store - Lots of shows available for viewing, including the current season of whatever season you're into. We don't rent these but it's nice to know we can in case the DVR gets goofed up for some reason. As for movies, the files are larger compared to Apple TV/iTunes downloads but with this the quailty is much better. HD movies are available but they're pretty big, about 6 GB! If you're buying movies then it's worth the wait and the extra 5 dollars. SD movies are still good quality for basic rentals. However, if you have a good cable connection you may want to rely on your On Demand Rentals to bypass waiting for long HD downloads. Again, PS Store is good for purchases and I encourage it to save on materials/resources...go green where you can. :) Only downfall with buying/renting movies this way is that the files don't have chapter markers so you can advance through sections of the movie like you can with a DVD. Hopefully they change this.

Internet - If you need to access the web you can but you'll probably want to pick up the Logitech keyboard to do this. The speed of browsing isn't too fast and the viewing area isn't the largest. I'll walk over to my computer to do a search rather than use the PS3.

Photos/Music - Depending on your computer setup (Mac or PC) you may need to get some additional software in order to turn your computer into a media server. Then, through your wireless network you can access the music and play it through the PS3. Same goes for photos...or you can load the photos onto the PS3 directly, same goes for the music. Really amazing features but take a little research on what file formats are compatible, etc.

PS3 Backup - With an external drive attached, you can back up the PS3, which is great.

Overall, I say go for the 250GB if you're into being green like me and wish to download games, movies and load photos and music. This device is truly an all-in-one and like I said, I'm picky. Not to mention I understand technology pretty well. If, after taking a realistic inventory, you will use all or the majority of the services, grab one of these suckers. I'd also recommend going Sony for your TV and surround sound. They all work really well together.

I'm an Amazon Prime member so I get special shipping! So I ordered this on 12/30/2009 at 1:00 am and paid extra for overnight shipping less than $10.00 by the way and at 2:30 pm on 12/31/2009 the fedex man handed me my package. It's freezing outside so the unit was cold so when I got it as much as I wanted to set it up and plug it in and turn it on. I just took it out of the box and set it on the coffee table I took all the contents out of their plastic bags to let them warm up to room temperature. Because I know that something that cold coming into my warm house it going to sweat and it already was sweating SO THE LAST THING YOU WOULD WANT TO DO IS PLUG IT IN! Although from reading some of the reviews on here it's sounds like some people didn't wait and short circuited their PS3 with all that condensation. Well after about 3 hours it was not sweating and was room temperature so I plugged it in and set it up. WOW! THIS IS THE GREATEST GAME CONSOLE OUT THERE! I immediately connected it to my Wireless network which was a breeze! The first thing I did was surf the web watch a couple videos on youtube. Then looking through the menu the ps3 had found my computer and was showing me that I could stream music and pictures wireless to the ps3 to my hdtv which I have my ps3 hooked up through HDMI what an awesome picture. So we had some friends over for new years and we showed them a slide show on our tv of our pics from Cancun last year. Then I downloaded Tiger Woods and played a couple games it looks just like your watching it on tv. I also have the NETFLIX disk so I entered that and we've been streaming movies it works flawless. Like the title says buy it now I'm glad I did!
