picked this up and i'm having a blast with it so far. borderlands and battlefield bad company 2 keep me from being bored during my free time. free online gaming is definitely a major plus (if you complain about free stuff then there's something wrong with you). watching HD movies with blu-ray is awesome too. you really get the more bang for your buck with this system and you won't be let down.

I use it for a blu-ray player and it does a great job. Quick Blu-ray live updates and easy to use, though not plug and play as the Blu-ray DVD ability is not is primary function by design. Very happy with the purchase.

My son has no complaints about the system. The only negative I can see is the high cost of new games.

This thing is great. I switched from x box to ps so this platform not playing the old PS2 games was not an issue for me. It fits great in a tight space and plays games, blue ray movies, and cd's perfectly.

I have to start this review by saying I own an Xbox 360 Elite, and just sold my 40gb PS3. I heard about the PS3 slim and thought I'd give it a try. I play alot of Xbox, and will admit I'm on my 3rd, thanks to the RRoD. I didn't play my 40gb PS3 very often, until Little Big Plant came out...that's the game that got me hooked on PS3.

After selling my 40gb model, I decided to run out and grab a PS3 slim. I was literally in awe when the sales associate handed me the new thin, light box. I rushed home, and unpacked the box, this thing is seriously small. It weighs close to nothing when compared to the classic design.

I must say this thing is a piece of art! The design is amazing, I was never a fan of the shiny black PS3, it collected fingerprints and showed every spec of dust. The matte black on this unit paired with the mirrored disc front bevel is gorgeous. I must also add the new "push" buttons are much more functional and the white back lit buttons are extremely slick looking.

Now onto the internal functionality. The PS3 has always been a solid built machine, and this model is no different, despite the new thinner, lighter form factor this thing is still solid. I turned it on and set up the wireless connection, which is a great feature, considering I have this installed in my bedroom. I put in a Blu Ray and sat back, just as I suspected, gorgeous picture on my 46" Sony Bravia. I never thought my 40gb unit was loud, sometimes the initial disc start up buzzed a bit but nothing to take away from your viewing enjoyment. This one is completely dead silent.

I must say this model is a 100% improvement over the previous design...until I turned on Bravia Sync. My TV instantly recognized the connection, labeled my HDMI 1 input as "PlayStation 3" and added a favorite icon labeled PS3. I think this is one of my favorite features hands down! My TV remote now fully controls my PS3 and TV, and even automatically turns on my PS3 when I select its input, or turns on the TV when I press the power button on the PS3.

To wrap this up, I must say this is an excellent product, I've always been a Sony fan, and have owned nothing but Sony TVs, Audio Receivers, etc. I have a good feeling with this new design and 100 dollar price drop Sony made a good choice...but, it wont stop me from enjoying Xbox too. Both of the consoles bring so much to the table...you're cheating yourself if you don't take time to enjoy the features and fun of both systems.

I use this mostly for streaming Netflix and DVD's at the time, but plan to expand on the other features at a later date. Multi uses, great purchase

The PlayStation 3 is one of the best products out there. I have owned One for coming up on 3 years, and have never thought about getting another one. I just recently bought the Ps3 Slimmed down version, and it is more quiet, less heat, and has an ever bigger hard drive. There is nothing about this system that is not worth the money. Amazing FREE online game play. Hours of Fun. Big hard drive for Video and Game downloads. Great interaction with all sony products, It is virtually a Plug N Play system, you can plug almost ANYTHING with a usb plug and it will work. ALot of games you can directly upload gameplay to youtube. There is a built in internet browser, Wifi, Blu ray player, 7.1 surround sound. Full HD video playback (HDtv Required With 1080p Capabilities and HDCP) EVERYONE should own this Gaming/entertainment system. People will say get the xbox because it is awesome, it has Facebook, netflix, twitter. Well the ps3 has an internet browser and you can access facebook, and twitter. Then you can download a program Called PlayOn by media mall and watch ur netflix queue as well.. There is no comparison to other systems, this is the way to go! Buy it or you will regret your desicion

I had the older 80g ps3 and all the sudden my games started freezing up on me. I took it to get it fixed and they said it was the blue ray lens. The only warranty they could give me was 30 days and it would cost almost $178 dollars. They also could not guarantee it would not happen again because it was older. I decided I would check out Amazon for the new 120g ps3 and decided to purchase it. I overnighted it and received it exactly when they said I would. It was packaged nicely and I have had no problems with it. I would also recommend getting the 3 year warranty cause my older PS3 was purchased in june of 07 and it would have been under warranty if I had it, it broke down in April of 2010. Lesson learned. Warranty's are just insurance for peace of mind and with spending this much it is worth it.

The new slim model has been said to be ugly, and a crappier version (Display-Wise) of the Original PS3.

I have never owned the original PS3, so I cannot make any comparisons besides the three following:

There is no Linux support, which is fine because I wasn't planning to use it.

Bigger Hard Drive, with the same price as a original 80GB PS3.

Smaller, (Not sure about lighter) than the original PS3. Except when placed up-right, the width is larger than the width of the original PS3.

My first review, so I'll just do the standard cons, and pros. I'll ad a "neutral" for a opinion thing.

Pros:

Bigger HD for the same price.

Lighter than the original.

Same texture as the PS2, which is great if you don't like fingerprints on your PS3.

Same as Original PS3 basically.

Cons:

Heats up pretty quickly. Used it for about two hours, and it had already heated up a fair amount. Though I kept playing for another two hours or so, and the heat never increased, so it won't overheat quickly. I'll get a cooler, if one ever comes out, just in case.

Neutral:

No Linux support. Whether or not you were going to use this would depend on if it was a con, or pro, or not.

Buttons, instead of touch-sensitive pads. Some have said that they prefer the touch-sensitive eject, and power buttons, instead of actual buttons. I personally, don't care.

No hard power switch on the back. I know the original had a power switch on the back to do a hard power off, and on. This is easily fixed by disconnecting the power cable, but it would have been pretty convenient if the Slim had it as well.

Overall, if you were planning to get a PS3, get a slim, or the "new" PS3, or just, "PS3", as the slim version is actually officially called the PS3.

If you want a PS3, but wanted Linux support, and like the older look instead of the newer look, get a original.

I've owned a 360 and Wii since shortly after each launched. The price of the PS3 always held me back, but when the slim came out with the new price tag, I decided it was time to take the plunge, and I'm glad I did! It's sleek low profile looks great in my entertainment center and is nearly silent when compared to my (twice repaired) 360. The games look just fantastic! Be aware that this doesn't come with an HDMI cable, (only composite) so if you are hooking up to an HDTV, be sure to pick one up. I had to go out and get one after getting my system, so save yourself a trip. Other than that, I heartily recommend this system! Bravo Sony!

My son loves it. i wish I looked at it more closely because he can not play ps2 games on it

This was a great gift for my boy. He has a few games and just loves the unit, except for Rock Band.

Which brings me to Ion Drumrocker, which he also has. If you feel that you need the Drumrocker, back away, now.

Back far, far away. You have been warned.

The PS3, however, has delivered on its promises. five stars. RED

It has some bad stuffs:

- During the game there are a lot of installation dialogs, which takes about 5-10 minutes to complete!!!... It's incredibly annoying having to wait 10 minutes to be able to play... I have an Xbox 360 and it doesn't have that problem... I mean, you can install games too, but only if you want to... and it's a one-time process which actually decreases the loading times in the future (the loading times are reasonable anyway without installation)...

- Everybody keep saying that technically, the PS3 hardware is better than Xbox's... In fact, the PS3 has so much CPU and GPU processing capabilities that not all the games are 1080i/p compatible... Instead, you may find some games which only run at 720p max...

- That without counting that most multiplatform games look much better on the Xbox rather than the PS3... Just an example, Call Of Duty X (X means any version, hahaha)...

Anyway, I prefer my Xbox 360, but it doesn't mean the PS3 is not good... I think it's a great machine and having wi-fi, blu-ray drive and free online gaming platform (for the same price) is definitely great... And the console it's a little smaller than Xbox... It includes only 1 controller (Xbox 360 elite includes 2)...

So... Think about it and take your conclusions... Mine is just an oppinion... Cheers!

I bought this to replace my old XBox which was streaming media from my network. The PS3 outshines the XBox on every facet; not to mention it is an awesome Blu-Ray player as well.

I had been waiting to by a new game console for a while now, but when sony dropped the price of the PS3 I went ahead and pre-ordered the Slim. The facts that it plays blu-ray movies and has built in wifi were the main two deciding factors over the Xbox 360. So far the console has been great and meet my expectations.
