Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RKC6Y5GJMCQNH This is my video review of the PS3.

There are some fine write ups here on Amazon regarding this new console. Please refer to them for detailed analysis. My video is meant as a quick primer on the new PS3 Slim and the benefits of owning it. If you want to see more detail with regard to the specs or other things just pause the video. I have all 3 main consoles now, each has their merits and shortcomings. Please keep comments focused to this model. THIS REVIEW IS A PRIMER. The video is just a fast way to watch all of the information that you may find out there on a billion other sites. Its presented here to be fast and informative without having to look all over... Also At the end I give MY review of the product. Please see my UPDATE below to see what I think of owning it for nearly a month now.

Games Featured: Some are not out yet - (Can only insert 10)

Assassin's Creed II,Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare,Brutal Legend,Little Big Planet: Game of the Year Edition,FIFA Soccer 09,Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection,Uncharted 2: Among ThievesDirt 2,Madden NFL 10,Need for Speed: Shift

One Month UPDATE:

Ok so I have had this since the day it came out and I mus leave a review as a owner of roughly a month;

First off I wont be comparing it directly to the Wii or Xbox, I am not a fanboy and do not wish to incite a riot or anything of the sort. I have played roughly 12 games on this system now. It looks fantastic. The cell engine is so smooth, I dont think I have ever seen it jerk or tear the video. I am really in awe of games like Little Big Planet, Uncharted 1, and Ghostbusters to name a few. They look just so beautiful.

Blue Ray Disc playback:

The ability to play BD movies is really a plus. If you know some of my earlier reviews of a couple of years ago you would see that I attempted to own a Toshiba HD DVD player. That was a literal nightmare to own. Since getting the PS3 I have watched about 5 BD DVD's and not one has skipped or locked up. I realize that this is in effect a computer and that may be why it plays "software" such as a BD disc better but whatever it is it plays 1080i and 1080p just beautifully. I am using HDMI of course.

Noise:

I have read some of the reviews that mention how loud it is. I cant say that I agree wholly. It is not silent by any means but my Tivo is actually louder when it is recording 2 shows. If the room is completely silent then yes, you can hear it running, but generally it cannot be heard over the TV when it is being used.

Buttons:

I like the new buttons. A friend has the PS3Fat and its lack of real buttons can be a pain. This one gives you a solid click when turning it off and on.

Some tips:

If you are just getting into the HD video gaming systems with the PS3 Slim and do not have a small fortune, I recommend a video game rental place. That way you can play games and not have to own them when you finish them. If you really LOVE it then you can purchase that particular game. Also there are full demo's available for just about every PS3 game out there that you can download and install via the PS3 game menu. I have tried a TON of games this way and it gave me some ideas of the ones I would like to rent, and its free.

Also I recommend connecting this to your WIRED network. It does have wireless but downloading several GB of data via the air takes a while. It uses a 10 base T Cat5 Ethernet connection.

If you are sitting on the fence waiting, wait no longer and get this now!

Thank you for reading/watching my review, I really hope it helps.

I am a proud owner of an Xbox 360. However, I purchased a PlayStation 3 60GB just within a few weeks after its initial launch, while I have only owned my Xbox 360 for about a year now. What attracted me to the PS3 were all of the diverse and immense features that the console contains:

Wireless Controllers

Large Hard Drive

Media Manager (music, photos, videos, etc.)

Web Browser

Blu Ray

Free Online Gaming

Exclusive Games (Heavenly Sword, Killzone, Resistance, Infamous, etc.)

I purchased the Slim in addition to my PS3 60GB simply to have an additional console in another room, and I must say, I am very impressed. The console is about 1/4 the size of the original PS3, and with the new matte finish, it no longer collects fingerprints and/or dust as easily as the chromatic versions do. The console is much lighter, allowing for easier portability and easier locations in which to store the device. It runs a lot quieter than my 60GB and at a much lower heat generating level as well. The major benefit that the PS3 has always had over both the 360 and the Wii is Blu Ray. Now, I'm not talking about graphics, or size of the capacity in which the disc can hold, instead I'm talking about the reliability of these discs. DVDs can scratch easily, resulting in discs that need to be resurfaced or in some cases even replaced. With Blu Ray it is virtually impossible to scratch the disc unless you're actually trying to do so! This can save you a lot of headaches down the road, especially if you have small children in the home who may mistreat discs. The lack of PS2 backwards compatibility at first does seem like a bad thing, but if you have purchased any of the next generation consoles you probably won't ever finding yourself going back to the old games anyway. It's a realization that all PS3 owners inevitably come to at some point. The increase in graphical performance is simply incredible and sometimes going back to the older games just doesn't feel as nostalgic as you would assume. The Slim also lacks the card reader and additional USB ports that the older consoles contained. This is a minor annoyance and can be fixed by purchasing a USB hub with multiple inputs, and a USB SD card reader. My 60GB PS3 had a hard drive that was easy to change out, but Sony made it even easier with the new Slim. Sitting at a much lower price point now, the PS3 Slim is a great way to get into the next generation of gaming. The console's library is steadily growing, gaining many multi-platform games that it shares with the Xbox 360. The controller of the PS3, the Dualshock 3, is one of the best controllers ever designed. It takes the great design and aspects of the Dualshock 2 and amplifies them with the inclusion of wireless gameplay and the ability to assign multiply controllers to the console at once. The controller's design is perfectly suited for high action fighting games, such as Street Fighter or Marvel VS Capcom, giving the PS3 an edge over the 360 when it comes to playing games that require the use of the directional pad (d-pad). Some minor complaints I have about the PS3, however, are also in regards to the controller. The controller contains a built in battery, yes this means no more need to change batteries, but this also means that if the controller is running low on battery life you cannot simply swap batteries in the midst of a gaming session. The only choice you have is to plug the controller into a USB port using the provided cable (or upgrade to a longer cable) and charge the remote while playing. A minor inconvenience but when using a longer cable this problem does not matter at all. Both my PS3 and my Xbox 360 get an equal amount of time, and I love both of them. Both consoles have so many exclusives that it's worth checking out both consoles and see which one sparks your interest more. If someone has ever been interested in owning a PlayStation 3, the Slim is the perfect choice.

I was overall impressed with my purchase from Amazon. The speedy delivery time and the user friendly website were very nice. My console was in supreme condition when i recieved it.

it's nice to have a smaller and powerfull PS3 and the only con could be the no backwards playback for good ol' PS2 Games.

other than that is the best PS system.

This is a very useful tool, not only a game console. It is better than xbox 360. You can use it to wave on web or watch you lovely blue-ray movie. It also owns reasonable price. I like it very much.

this is the first playstation every I have owned. I've always like Xbox better, but after the slim dropped price I picked one up. I actually like alot of things in the PS3 slim better than 360. PS3 has better graphics, HDMI (for those of us with original 360 who don't have HDMI), and the bluetooth controllers are awesome. The one HUGE downfall of PS3 is the online gaming, there is no party system! It is some times a big pain in the ass to start a game with a group of ppl. If you can stand that though, the difference in graphics is really huge! I actually changed a lot of my preorders for Xbox games to the PS3 version of the game just for the graphics. With this new lower price tag, PS3 should be a better competitor for the 360

I recently purchased my PS3 about 2 weeks ago and after getting some games and taking advantage of all it has to offer. Listed some that I enjoyed and were relevent for me as someone who enjoys playing games casually with friends and the once and awhile movie (not a full list of features):

-built in Wi-Fi so no wires to get on internet (simple set up)

-rechargable wireless controller with cable (with decent battery life)

-DVD and BluRay Player (not main reason to buy but was nice add-on)

-Playstation Network (great for downloading demos and buying PS1 games to download)

-Hard Drive 120GB built in (installed a few PS1 games and alot of PS3 demos)

There are probably more but these features pop out to me the most when I enjoy my PS3. Having free access to the playstation network is appreciated and the $299 price point for slim is what made me finally decided to buy one.

I am disappointed with the lack of backwards compatibility in the PS3 Slim for PS1 and PS2 games since I do own some PS2 games and can't just rely on one console to enjoy all PS games. Their commercial always pours salt in that small missing element in the console. I don't think past PS owners need it but it would have made the decision to buy the PS3 faster and easyer.

I am happy with my console in the end and highly recommend it for any past PS owners still unsure of the console or just anyone looking for a gaming console that offers alot of fun with great game exclusives behind it. (for me it was Metal Gear Solid 4 and Uncharted 1 and 2)

I got a PS3 instead of other systems because I knew that it had incredible capabilities. I didn't know the full extent of those capabilities until I actually played it. This system is amazing! It can do everything. I can't imagine being happier with a purchase.

I already owned the 60GB when it 1st came out. My daughter wanted one so I got her the Slim style for X-mas the drop in price was a big plus. I travel a lot for work 4 months at a time so I take the 60GB with me. Its a real solid investment. I love movies so the Blu-Ray player built-in was great. Now that you can buy and/or rent movies or shows through PSN or Netflix its great. I don't have to pay full price for a movie we are not sure that I will like. Rent it for probaly what the tax would cost you to buy it in the store. If you don't like it no porb 2 bucks won't kill you. You could have been out $10-$25 if you bought it first. If you like it order it off of Amazon you get the money you would have paid in taxes right back. Believe me Amazon Prime saved us LOTS of money because of no tax and free shipping.

Online is free and a lot of stores drop prices on older games everyday. If I order stuff it almost always come out cheaper. The PS3 has a good amount of kid games as well as teen and adult. So its a lil bit of fun for everyone. You have to get another controller but there isn't a system out the you won't have to buy extra. Comes with firmware updates. Controllers are rechargeable so no AA AAA problems. It only comes with 1 USB cord but you can find thoes around the house. The graphics are outstanding. If your away like I am playing games and wathing movies on a 720p tv, then come home and play it on an HD 1080p tv you will notice the difference. Unlike most I keep both in an open space. I have never had a problem with any system I have owned. Blow the dust out every now and then and keep it open space. Hey I'm in the desert and never had an over heat problem. One more thing you can always add more memory if you want just get a regular laptop HDD with the memory you want and follow the instructions and you are good to go. As a parent, and a person who plays. In MY opinion its got somthing for everyone. Hope you enjoy. GOD Bless.

My brother has the 360, which keeps on breaking down. So I decided to give PS3 a try. The Slim overheats? Well, I've completed Mirror's Edge in 1 day. I played continously, for approximately 12hrs. No heating problems whatsoever.

Can't wait to play Assassin's Creed 2 and Uncharted 2!

Just make sure the PS3 doesn't sit directly on top of carpet.

This is my first PS3 and I am very impressed with the quality of the product and the price was right. The small size is a plus and it is very quiet. There are no negatives that I have encountered.

I finally got myself a video game console after a 15 year hiatus (my last system was the original Playsation). I skipped out on PS2.

One of the main reasons I got it was because my DVD player was beginning to fail on me, skipping in some movies, and not playing others altogether. So DVD up-scaling was the first priority, and it does an amazing job. I used to have to put my TV settings on "Smart Stretch," which was great, but it would cut off the top and bottom slightly. Now I don't have to worry, since the image fills my screen the way it should.

I also wanted it for its Netflix streaming, although I haven't tried it out. I know the XBox 360 does this also, but what really made it a no-brainer for me was the Blu-Ray player.

So, bottom line, instead of getting a Blu-ray player (that may or may not stream Netflix), a Roku, a media player, and a hard drive, I decided to get the PS3. On top of that, I'm getting an awesome gaming system. All for $[...] shipped. Can't beat that.

I have owned just a XBOX360 for some time now. And I have played my friends PS3 and thought it was cool. But until you actually own a PS3, you don't realize how AWESOME it is. The interface, the ease, the 'not having to PAY EXTRA' for internet service. You can't even put batteries in the controller if you wanted to!!

In short, PS3 does edge out the 360, get one!!

  • from Amazon

Have had the PS3 for about 2 months. Geat for games, but we use it mostly for watching blu-ray movies. Chose the PS3 because it can steam Netflix, play games, and play blu-ray discs. Fast load time and great picture and graphics. I does it all!!! Got it at Amazon.com with free shipping.

Runs great so far...no complaints. Can download tons of demo games and video clips. Blu-ray looks great! Games are fun. Gets a little warm but it's faily quiet.
