i just bought this and ill tell u i sold my 360 after playing metal gear and killone.its true next gen console.
For one price you get a BluRay player, DVD player, an entertainment center to stream things from a computer, and a gaming console all in one! Definitely worth it.
wow and wow.
the console is so cool. i've played it for hours and no heating. i bought my system in the USA and took it to Africa and was a little worried that the power would be an issue especially since the lower part of the console stated 120V.
anyway i took the big leap and plugged it direct into my 240v and its kicking.
i definitely prefer this to the old console.
im not really bothered about backwards compatibility....why focus on the past when there so much to come in the future.
i defintely recommend a "BUY" to anyone.
A great system with much more than meets the eye. Of course the playstation, but then blu-ray, internet, many more extras. Take this with a grain of salt though -- I have not been a serious gamer since Donkey Kong...
This is a terrific console, well worth the price tag of 120gb. I will not describe each of them features, but i am a happy customer.
I have beed looking at this PS3.a very long time now.and now i actually own one i can tell you that this player /game console is awsome.especially when you have a wireless network in your home, you can sign-up to the Playststion Network and download games.
And so so many things. All i can tell you just get one.
Tony
Great value since it is a blu-ray and a console and comes with everything you need to go online.
Excellent gaming system. The wireless controllers, HD display, and overall function are fantastic. Too bad the fan is still too loud. Playing games in surrond sound with a large display is a blast. I'll probably never go back to the computer game versions with the patches, hardware drivers...etc.
Too bad the fan is still loud. It would have made an excellent movie player.
I bought this about 2 weeks ago for the full price [...]. I would have waited for the BF sale but my Samsung 52" arrived sooner. SO I had to make sure PS3 was there to compliment it.
I am a tech support engineer and I know when a product is designed with technically challenged consumer on mind. This is a good example of plug and play product. I purchased Logitec Keyboard, the remote (a must I say) for the PS3. How pleased I am to see that the PS3 detects these equipment with no issue.
To top it all, it recognized my wireless signal and configured itself. Man, this is a amazing product. Bravo to SEC!
This thing has utterly blown my mind. I've been more of a PC gamer for the last several years, but when I saw the price and all that came with the PS3 slim, I couldn't resist buying one. Anyways, here are some pros and cons that pop into my mind, and hopefully they help with the decision in whether to purchase or not.
Pros:
-Amazing overall build/construction.
-Quiet (or at least with a game or movie on I sure can't hear it).
-Great graphics.
-Compact size.
-Bluetooth wireless accessories.
-Built-in wifi.
-Free PSN access.
-120gb HDD.
-Solid menu system.
-Streaming-media works flawless.
-Has held up for almost non-stop running for a few months now, doesn't even seem to hiccup.
-Great cost/value
Cons:
-I guess 120gb HDD, although that can be replaced if more storage is necessary.
-The accessories are pretty expensive.
-No PS2 compatibility.
-Hulu doesn't currently work on it.
-PSP/PS3 don't really make a good combo (although are both great pieces of hardware, just nothing special to owning both; the linking/remote play is weak).
I owned a PS2, but other than Final Fantasy, it pretty much collected dust; too loud and too many load times. I can't emphasize how much I've been blown away by this thing; if only it had Hulu, I wouldn't need my bulky media-center PC in the living-room. You can't load Linux on this version I believe, but personally the entire reason I wanted a console was so I don't have to mess with 50 things just to play a game, just pop in a disc and whatnot; I have plenty of PCs for that purpose.
This is the best video game ever. Amazing video quality, incredible sound, access to internet wireless, HD 120 GB, a lot of fun games, simply the best.
I am very pleased with this console, it can do anything you are expecting and more, it a very recomendable purchase. The battery on the sixaxis controller last for a week playing 2 hours daily, the video and sound quality are excellent, plays BD movies flawlessly.
The online experience is very good, the integrated web browser works with everyting you throw at it.
In resume, I would buy another one with my eyes closed.
For anyone looking to get a PS3, now is the time to do it. At $299 you really cannot beat this. Blu-ray, excellent games, 120 gb hard drive, movies, online, etc. There are so many things to do on the PS3. I have both an XBOX 360 and a PS3 and I love them both. I will say though that the PS3 is a better media hub, but the 360 currently has a few more games. The PS3 should be catching up though with some great exclusives coming out (Gran Turismo 5, Uncharted 2, MAG, God of War 3, etc.). All in all this is a great machine at a great price.
I just got the slim...for 300 you can get a blu-ray and a game system. I wanted a blu-ray player and then I saw that Sony dropped the price...perfect timing. Very cool machine and fun to play with all of the features. I wanted the Xbox but it doesnt have blu-ray so I got the PS3...I am not disappointed. Buy it if you havent already. Only thing though is that blu-ray remote kind of sucks because you can't see the buttons in the dark and its like 60 dollars for a harmony remote adaptor. The blu-ray doesnt have resume when you power off the unit...unless I am doing it wrong. Blu-ray is beautiful.
Be wary against buying this... I purchased 2 slims and both yellow lighted out of the box! They currently have reports of these issues after I spoke to the guy at the story they get returned almost daily!
I was upgrading from my Original 60gb PS3 to the slim and the slim was complete trash!
Sony is taking out features to make it cheaper.
No Linux or 3rd party OS installing
Slower Blu-Ray player...
Not backwards compatible
After finding out that they only have a year warranty on the PS3 on any issues and it's 150 dollars to mail it back to them to get it serviced. The Xbox360 has 3-4 years for free on the red ring issues.
I returned it and bought a 360 instead and i'll be keeping my big fat PS3.
Save your money until Sony gets the yellow light issues replaced! If you are a gamer buy an xbox360 the online service is better and it's a much more solid console.
If you want bluray buy a PS3. (but wait at least 6 months for them to get this resolved.)
There is a watchdog report from the BBC's UK that can be found here about it.
