I am glad i finally bought a PS3 for our home. So far i love every game that came with it(LBP, R+C), and all the additional games. It's really been fun having friends over playing BUZZ, or playing online with friends. I really couldn't comprehend what we could do with it, but now that we have one, i can't imagine my life w/o it. i use the logitech bluetooth adapter, and it works seemless with our harmony remote. there is so much that you can do with it, movies, games, online games, download demos, surf the web... etc. it's a well rounded console, and tho this is the first console i've bought in a decade, I am very pleased. i live in a house with a bunch of roomies, and we are all 27-33.. and we all enjoy it!
I have an xbox 360 for over 2 years now and bought the ps3 slim the day it came out at a local bestbuy. i've played with it for many days now and got what i expected. i bought metal gear solid 4 with the system since it was only 30 bucks and am still enjoying the game, its great.
the good is that the system has a bluray player so i don't have to worry about that in the future. another thing is that the online play is free, which is nice. those 2 things are the main pros that the system has for me, aside from games that are released exclusively for the ps3.
the cons are the interface, which is the lack of some options that the xbox 360 has which i wanted, especially the chat function out of games and in games isnt as streamlined as i would like, the same goes for the friends features and voice features and the online store.
so the ps3 in terms of online features and overall social features is still behind the 360. but because it is free, i don't mind, i expect the 360 to do something with the 4 dollars i spend a month on it.
anyways i give this ps3 slim a 5/5 and am looking forward to many of the games being released on it. my next game to buy will probably be either killzone 2 or little big planet.
if you have a 360 and not a ps3, this is a good time to buy one since they are smaller and cheaper.
i love my ps3 and so lookining forward to great games in the future for it and what make it even better is its blu-ray drive that makes games look better and movies im a veery big fan of both nintendo and sony both deserves a soild 5 star..
The PS3 is a very good system and it's online and wifi is great. The games are all fun and the blu-ray display is nothing special if you've had an upconverting 1080p DVD player but the sound it a MILLION times better that anything in DVD-format. The games are varied enough so that when my little cousins are over I can still play fun games that won't give them nightmares. Plus, the games are in Blu-ray-rom format which means they are made like blu-ray movies in that the disks are virtually unscratchable. I had a PS2 prior to my PS3 and i hava 360 and I lost a few games to scratches from both consoles because of my little brother mistreating the games. But the PS3 games don't scratch unless you take an engraver to them. This is a really nice perk because then you don't need to keep looking for replacement games. This is a really nice perk that isn't really talked about alot.
It does everything.. now for a hundred bucks cheaper. And Amazon's is the best way to buy products, fast, safe, secure... do it!!!!
I have been now using the new slim version PS3 for about 1 month. My use includes a mix of Bluray movies and some gaming. But primarily movies. Great system. This is the 2nd PS3 I have. My original "fat" version is still running well, but in anther room.
I had no issue getting a 2nd system for another room, it's that good.
I purchased my PS3 with a copy of Final Fantasy XIII and received it about 3 days after ordering, so I was very impressed with shipping. It came in a larger cardboard box with the PS3 box inside of it with bubble wrap all around it and some foam so it was handled with care.
I haven't even used the system with an HDMI hook-up yet(have a cable on order), but even with an RCA cable I am extremely impressed with the systems graphics and performance. Out of 30 hours of gameplay I have only noticed the video slow down twice, and when it did it was only for literally about one second. It was barely noticeable and didn't bother me at all. I have been a hardcore PC gamer for years and this system in just one week is convincing me of the power of a console.
Also having Netflix on the system is a bonus, and the console came packaged with a disc so I didn't even have to log on to my Netflix account and have them send one. I have Netflix on my Wii as well but prefer using a controller to browse through stuff rather than pointing the Wii remote at the screen and clicking.
It really does everything and has everything I need.
Pros:
~Value, no need to purchase additional hardware to make my remote and internet connection wireless ready.
~Remote has built in battery and charging cable
~Built in WiFi and Ethernet ready
~Plays music CD, DVD and Blu-Ray discs
~No Fee for PlayStation Network (online gaming)
~HDMI connection
ps3 is way better than x-box, graphics, games, blu ray. the crap box(x-box) doesn't come close too competing with it.
Bought the PS3 for my husband and he loves it. Good value, excellent graphics, etc. etc.
mine is coming tomorrow (September 10) and i cant wait just wanted to let people know xD
This is a preliminary review. I bought this playstation slim approximately 1 month ago to play baseball video games primarily and am quite satisfied with the realism and the graphics. I've also uploaded several CD's into the player, so it also doubles as a jukebox. You could do the same for photos and videos as well as play blue ray dvd's which I do not do. The wattage drain for the slim is 250 watts per hour so 4 hours of use will have you using a kilowatt. That aspect of the product could be improved but I'm a casual user so it's not a huge issue for me. The controller needs to charge up every time you use the machine but that only takes about 10 minutes and you can use the controller while it's charging. When it's fully charged you can detache it from the usb cable and use it wirelessly. When the lithium ion battery inside the controller finally dies you're supposed to remove the battery and recycle it and then throw the controller away. Then you'll need to buy another controller. From my reading of the directions the battery is not replaceable by the user or by anyone else. Now that is just weird. How long will the battery last? Sony says it depends on use and circumstance but is otherwise vague on the issue. I'm thinking 2 to 5 years but that's just me. Why did I go with the PS3 and not with the X-Box 360? Well mostly on Sony's reputation for excellence in consumer electronics. The Sony products I've bought in the past have all proven themselves to be reliable while offering levels of complexity I could appreciate. It's my belief that Sony is a notch or two better than it's competition in other words. Sometimes that methodology works but not always, reference the Toyota debacle. Hopefully lightning won't be striking twice here and anyhow I doubt if the PS3 is going to explode and kill me. As for software, well you'd have to give the edge to Microsoft there being that's their core business but I'm not going to be purchasing a huge number of video games. 'God of War' notwithstanding holds litte appeal for me. I'm a sports guy, not a guy trying to get inside a movie and destroy the evil hordes. No thanx ! I've considered buying another PS3 for my bedroom T.V. but might hold off on that being that I really am a soft core user. I haven't tried to connect the unit to the internet yet. If I do I'll come back and describe that experience if it's warranted. All you need besides what's in the box is a good quality HDMI cable. 10 bucks should take care of that if you buy one online. See my other review on the HDMI cable I bought here at Amazon.
Excellent product! Connection and set-up is very easy. Menu's are easily navigated. Quality of games is excellent. I watch blu-ray movies using the PS3 and it is fast, quiet and produces excellent images.
I bought The PS3 as a family gift and I have been very pleased with it especially with being able to play games with others on-line. I also am pleased with the unit as a Blu-ray DVD player. I have always been a Die-hard Playstation owner from Day 1 with the original and have never owned any other system.
I never really planned on getting a PS3 as I already have an XBOX 360 and most of the games are more or less the same. But, I have been wanting to get a Blu-ray player for my new LCD, and with the new low price on the PS3 it just seemed like a better purchase than a stand alone. It is a great blu-ray player, good picture and sound, loads quickly and updates with the wireless connection. The interface is easy to navigate and it has lots of storage for demos, videos, music etc. The hardware is way better than the Xbox except that it is missing IR receiver and doesn't work with universal remotes (like a harmony) without a work around (I have a Sony Bravia TV and Bravialink works great to control the PS3). Overall I am very happy with the product it offers a lot of features for the price and is the best deal on a blu-ray player period. If I had to choose between an XBOX and PS3 I would keep the PS3 (but I would miss Halo and XBox Live).
