First of all, if you're going to buy a PS3 Slim, MAKE SURE you buy a PS3 Slim Starter Kit by Rocketfish. The best vertical stand available for the PS3 Slim, it's sturdy and covers both sides of the unit, unlike the Sony one that only covers one side. Also comes with a dual-charge station and a bluetooth headset. It's a great starter kit for the PS3 slim at a great price. Now onto the actual PS3 Slim Review.

Couple of differences I noticed IMMEDIATELY between this PS3 Slim and the regular PS3:

1). PS3 Slim runs SO much cooler. I don't think many people notice the heat unless you play in a small room. I thought the games must have been really intense or something because I'd be sweating sometimes while playing in my bedroom, but then I noticed how much HEAT the original PS3 emitted. Unreal, my room was like a furnace! Didn't realize how hot my room was until I'd open the door and step outside the room. Huge temperature difference. This new PS3 Slim runs SO MUCH cooler, I'm sure my energy bills will be a bit lower now, and no more sweating it out while playing for a few hours or watching a couple BluRays.

2). Same small room arguement, but you don't notice how loud the original PS3 is unless you play in a very small room. This new PS3 Slim runs much quieter. Again not the biggest of deals but it's nice if you're playing with a headset while someone is sleeping in the room, it's a little less annoying.

3). And finally, portability. This unit is so much SLIMMER (go figure), it's perfect for vehicles now. Mini-vans or Impalas, it's now realistic to install a PS3 in your car. The old version was just too big for that, but this unit is just compact enough to be able to finally get that car install done. Also, if you're like my little cousins, always lugging around the PS3 to a friends house, carrying this slimmer version is much more easier to move around from house to house or even room to room.

Obviously I wouldn't recommend simply purchasing a new PS3 Slim to replace your old one, but if you have someone interested in buying the old one or if you need a new one for whatever reason, don't even hestitate to pick up the PS3 Slim. And don't forget the PS3 Slim Starter Kit!!

The PS3 is flat out excellent. I do not play games. I bought it as a Blu-ray Player that can access media files off of a shared PC (PS3 Media Server) and stream off the internet (Playon). It boots up quickly, plays BD's instantly and has an easy to understand cross menu to access PC media servers and video files copied to the 120GB HD. Easily connects to a home router (wired or wireless). It puts out a beautiful picture (1080p) and sound (up to 7.1) via the HDMI output. I hooked this up to a Sony CT-100 ($230) then from there to a 1080p HD LCD TV. The result is awesome! If you are looking to upgrade to a Blu-ray player, this is by far the most robust and for the money the most value.

I also recommend getting the BT remote and connecting it to the Sony CT100 sound system via HDMI.

Next is connecting an IPOD to the CT-100 via a Sony DMport IPOD docking station.

When the first Playstation 3's came out they cost over 700$. Pure insanity, especially for a brand new system with practically no games for it. The only game back in that time was resistance, a blah shooter, and maybe some sports games. Now with this iteration their is no reason not to own a PS3. The blue-ray player alone is worth the price. This newer version is very sleek and compact, although I wish they would have dumped that stupid curved design for a more orthodox shape. The games catalog is staggering and the Playstation network is free. Overall great product, Sony finally got it right after more than 4 years.

I finally got my hands on these, they look like the ps2, all in all its good, got nothing to complain about. The graphics sometimes make me feel dizzy, but I guess that's just me. I think I'm getting to old for gaming

Let me just say, the PS3 Slim is such a great value! You get a top Blu-Ray player (it also upscales standard DVDs), free online play, great HD graphics, and there are some awesome Playstation exclusives out (including a great lineup for next year).

Also, the redesigned slim uses less power, which means it runs cooler and quieter. The new design is also super sexy!! I have the ps3 slim vertical stand and it saves a lot of space next to my entertainment center. I highly recommend this system to anyone interested in HD gaming and with the recent price drop to 299, it is definitely the best deal out there!

The ps3 slim so far is a great system. Same game play as the launch ps3's but a better price, runs cooler, and it has more memory. I did run into a few issues, mine was running very loud (apparently from some of the other reviews) and it was freezing up. I understand that a new system is bound to have some bugs on a few select systems. I would not hesitate to buy this system because from my experience sony makes excellent products. I was just very unlucky to recieve a DOA. I called Amazon and they are replacing my system without discussion. I feel confident that my new system will be just fine. If you do recieve a DOA do not worry about getting your money back or another system. Thank you Amazon for your excellent customer service. I would not hesitate in purchasing this item.

bought this 99.9% because of the ratings the Blu-Ray player received - they are all accurate. Nice sleek unit that runs quietly in contrast to the "up in smoke" Xbox it replaced. Fast shipping by Amazon.

Alright, I'll keep this semi-short since there are plenty of good reviews for the PS3. I've personally, as of now, owned all consoles of this current generation.

Wii - Great fun for the first few months, I sold it because I just couldn't find any more enjoyment out of it. It's great for families, but for an average 20-something with nothing to do there isn't a whole lot going for it.

XBox 360 - I have to admit I loved a lot of the XBox exclusives that are available and XBox Live is definitely ahead of the game as far as DLC and media are concerned. However, the hardware is barely sub-par. I went through 3 cycles of the infamous 'red ring of death' on the same system. The quality of the hardware should exceed the quality of the software in all respects to give the customer a sense of pride in what they're purchasing. No BD playback. Pay-to-play/communicate with other users. Constant battery replacements without built-in rechargables. The list goes on and on.

Finally, with warranty money from my XBox 360 and Amazon trade-in gift cards from my games I went with the console I should've bought 3 years ago - The PS3.

I've only played a few games thus far, but they all appear staggeringly better defined on BD as opposed to the standard DVD format that is currently being used by the other guys. I'm not a big fan of 'Playstation Home', but I understand it's currently in beta. Also the PSN has a lot to make up for, but it's free. Controllers are rechargeable via USB and have a better feel, in my opinion, than the XBox 360 controller. The PS3 also has built-in wifi, not a proprietary accessory. BD playback, Netflix streaming, better hardware, and increasing better software. So far it's been a win-win with my PS3.

This is the power I was needing in a console. The PS3 slim rock... the only thing I'll say there is not a bit of negative in this product buy it right now...

Sony (and the PS3 in particular) has really turned itself around within the last year or so to become a massive force to be reckoned with. With the recent inclusion of the Slim, the price drop, the increasing popularity of Blu-ray and HDTV's, upgraded firmware and a list of Exclusives the size of my arm: really, Sony is King. Or soon will be.

I'm proud to own a Playstation 3. :)

I traded my Xbox 360 for the PS3 and have never looked back. You don't pay a monthly fee to play online, you get a Blu-Ray player built in. No special equpiment or "proprietary" peripherals needed. I love it!

There is not much more (if at all) to add to what "Aragorn" wrote in his review. Just wanted to comment on the issue of the temperature of the unit. After playing online for about 3 hours straight, the unit's exhaust temperature is still less than 95 deg F. My PS3 is in my media cabinet but the back of it faces a cut out so the exhaust is not hindered. Also, I leave the front of the cabinet open when it is in use.

Love the unit. It paired immediately with my Motorola H350 headset and off I went. It is really a remarkable machine. My wife immediately commented on how good the graphics look and the true social networking application that is Playstation Home. I think I will get a wireless keyboard and mouse for it soon just to complete the package. It would be cool if FPS could use the keyboard and mouse rather than the controller to play but that is not a deal breaker for me.

For all who decide to purchase this amazing bit of computing genius, enjoy!
