I've had my PS3 for approximately 6 months and love it. This is the best deal for a combo game console + blu ray player. GET IT!
I already owned a original 60GB model that had PS2 backward compatibility. I was planning on getting another BD player for my bedroom. I was considering the new Samsung players when this was announced. It's cheaper and it plays games plus it has a HDD. It was a no-brainer for me. The PlayStation 3 is far and away the best console or for that matter Blu-Ray player you can currently get for its price range. There are many advantages to the 360 and the Samsung BD players, however if I had to have one without the others, my honest and objective recommendation is the new PS3.
Like I've said it's a great bargain for a great system, but it is not without its shortcomings.
-No PS2 Backward compatibility. (important to me but not everyone)
-No Netflix (360 has Netflix and so do the Samsung BD players) (also, important to me but not everyone)
-Backup Utility is awkward (nobody uses FAT32 format anymore and it's actually a process to even format a HDD that way) (You can do it with Swissknife though)
-Online play isn't as good as 360's(but it IS free and is being improved even as I type this...)
-No mic jack on controller (Bluetooth Headsets are not as easy, so people don't bother. The result is a lot less people are not talking in multi player games. A plus side to this is that you don't have to listen to a bunch of 13 year olds screaming the N-word and insulting your mom).
I hope I didn't complain too much about the system it really is a great machine and the best deal out there.
PlayStation 3 120 GB
This video game machine is the best I've ever used. The graphics and sound capability are unsurpassed, and online gaming is a breeze with the wireless internet adapter. Plus lots of great new games have been released recently, making the experience even better. Also, it comes with a built-in Blu-Ray player and web surfing with instant movies available from Netflix, how awesome is that?? I don't care what anyone else says--Sony has once again blown the competition out of the water with the PS3 console, and now under 300 bucks brand new!
I'm not a fanboy. I own a 360 for 6 months now and i felt the need to get a PS3 to complete my gaming experience. I am a satisfied customer. I still play multiplatforms and online multiplayer on my 360 since all my friends have one, and i use the PS3 for exclusives . I feel whole now that I added the PS3 to my little gadget collection. Thank you SONY!!! And thanks to amazon for getting it to me so fast...
I got this PS3 for Christmas to go along with my Sony Bravia surround sound system and my Samsung HD LCD full 1080P television 37 inch. I had been waiting for almost 4 months for this! And all I can say is WOW! Full 1080P high definition output, great games (I have Madden NFL 10, NBA Live 10, Assassin's Creed II, DC vs Mortal Kombat, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, and X-Men Origins), great sound, sleek design, great everything! I was able to hookup wirelessly to the internet with my second DSL modem. That's right! It has internet too! It will scan the available networks for you, all you need is the pass code. The wireless controllers are awesome! You can turn this thing on and off with them. Games are easy to put in and take out. And the blu-ray player? Wow! Simply amazing! It plays blu-rays in full 1080P and will upconvert standard DVDs in full 1080P as well! It can hold videos, photos, music, everything! It's so easy to configure different settings to your personal taste (audio, video, etc.)
You will only want to play this on a full HD television (1080P) via HDMI. A surround sound system brings this thing to life! When I play NBA Live 10, the bounce of the ball on the court is so life like, it was almost as if I were there! The gunshots are real and life-like too! What a Christmas gift!!!!!!
Great makeover for the ps3! My only complaints are that the buttons are no longer touch sensitive, and I miss the shiny finish. The size reduction and energy savings are definitely welcome! I love blu rays too!
Well, i play with the Old PS3 a few times and the new one is 30% smaller, less noise and a Blu-Ray player. Don't have the PS2 support for old games, but... who cares?
I you want to buy a Blu-Ray Player Like the Sony BDP-S360 ($179.97) vs the PS3 ($299.99), Go for the PS3, you obtain a excelent Blu-Ray player and one of the best Game consoles available.
Great product. was skeptical at first reading all the reviews about overheating and not running blu-ray movies but I took a chance and do not regret purchasing this product so far. I have only had it for 2 months now but have not had any problems playing movies and downloading a few demo games from playstation.
I was unaware you could access netflix but I was pleasantly suprise when accessing the playstation network. I have not tried renting anything though.
I do have an older 40GB PS3 I use for the livingroom and have not had any problems with that unit either. 5 Stars!
Could not believe the ease of use, and the different areas of access,
Sony has struck it big with this console!!
This gift was for my husband. He absolutely loved his PS3. He told me that this game system has a lot more and better features then the PS2. This was a good buy for the price.
if you want the best console ever and when I say ever is taking all generations into account this is by far the most superior console to this date.
It's back and slimmer than ever with the same home entertainment. My mom wanted a blu-ray player and I wanted one of those exclusive games for th ps3. So we got it and man, this is the king of features and has the best blu-ray player. It includes a dualshock 3 controller and 2 cables, it has a hdmi output so you get an hd experience.
i used to own the original 60gb version with backwards compatability, and i sold my 80gb one to make way for the 'Slim'.
the 'slim' is what it should've been when they first released the PS3!
btw, backwards compatability is not an issue with me, i never went back to play any PS2 games. that's just me though.
I had okay expectations regarding the PS3; I am overwhelmed by the graphics and overall performance of this machine. My only regret is that my 14 year old son may slowly become a Video Zombie(then again I could always pull the plug).
I was a little skeptical about purchasing a game system on line, however because I purchase other Items from Amazon and have always been pleased, I decided to take a chance and the PS3 is greeeat we play it every day, Since purchasing it we don't even turn on the Xbox 360 anymore. I am very pleased with my purchase.
