I previously owned Xbox and PS3 Original (fat) consoles. Very happy with this PS3 slim. I have no doubt in my mind that this is the best piece hardware for the money I spent. It is not just a game console. It is an awesome blue ray player. Excellent media extender, etc. Now I can stream all my home made videos & pictures from my PC and comfortably watch it on the HD TV. Runs very quite compare to his fat cousin (PS3 original). I like the mat finish, does not attract dust and finger prints.

The PS3 works fantastically, and is actually getting great games lately. Tons on exclusives are coming out, and they're all gonna be great. Free online play is awesome, I've never had a problem with lag. To be honest, I had more lag on xbox live, which was stupid because I actually had to pay for that crap. Not to mention I'll never have to worry about my PS3 breaking down. It's Sony's time to shine

Well, let me tell you how is this thing...amazing :) Buy it. One thing is for sure, do all your chores first before playing on this console, if not you may have problems. Play to relax.

Good gaming system but still overpriced. Maybe one day these companies are going to learn that they can make much more by lowering the prices.

i'm not much of a gamer but my 25 yr old son is he loves it... i bought it primarily to use with my home server and look at blue ray movies in excellent clarity. it works perfectly in those respects also. to put it simply.. i'm very happy with this purchase.

I previously owned a 40GB version of the Playstation 3, and when the 120GB Slim version was announced, I decided to buy it. Since the PS3 holds it value well, I was able to sell my older model and purchase the newer slim model for about a $50 difference. With the new price level, the Playstation 3 continues to set the bar for a complete entertainment system. While stand alone blu-ray players have seen prices drop, the overall value of getting a blu-ray player and a new game console in one package is still outstanding. The built in wireless means you will never have to worry about firmware updates as long you have an Internet connection and a wireless router. The PS3 makes it easy to update your software, games, and firmware with just a few steps. The new PS3 Slim is not only smaller, but it also seems much quieter in my opinion, though I never had a big issue with my old 40GB model to be honest. If the noise of the older models was a concern for you, then you will be happy with a slim model. The larger disk space of 120 GB versus my older 40GB model is a nice benefit of upgrading as well. I would like to see Sony implement some other features such as Netflix on demand in the future; however, the overall value of using the Sony Playstation 3 as your primary entertainment system is pretty amazing in my opinion.

Pros

+ Cost effective entertainment system

+ Blu-ray Player

+ Built in Wireless Internet Adapter

+ Playstation Network membership is free

The only negative I could find is that the system does not support PS2 games, however since I do not own any PS2 games, it had no effect on my rating.

The Playstaion 3 is the ultimate gaming machine, the built in Wifi and 120gb of memory are great features that make the PS3 perfect out of the box

We waited for the PS3 to drop in price before we bought it and this is a great buy. It is so much more slim than the original PS3 pack and everything came just as expected.

The PS3 is a great gaming system with excellent graphics, a bluray player, media sharing, and streaming capability. Currently, the top 3 blu ray players for around $300 - $500 are the OPPO BDP83, LG BD390, and believe it or not the PS3. This is based off of tests performed by CNET. They use calibration discs and video stress test to see how well players on the market perform.

The OPPO got the best ratings and focuses on picture and audio quality but not streaming capabilities. The LG BD390 can stream Netflix and You Tube. The PS3 can stream Netflix and You Tube but you need to use an application called Play On. There is a free disc coming out through Netflix that you can put in your PS3 to download an application so you can stream Netflix. I already updated my Netflix account to receive this disc once it is available.

I also have the PS3 synced with my Windows Media Center where I can access pictures, movies, and music from my PC's library. Of course the computer has to be on to do this. It was very easy syncing all of the programs to communicate with my PS3.

The PS3 does a great job of up converting standard DVDs. The colors are very brilliant and a bit richer then my BD390. However, the bluray picture is richer on the BD390 then the PS3 as well as the audio quality.

Since the game controllers are bluetooth, a standard IR sensor universal remote will not be able to control the PS3. You can use the game controller to power on/off the system as well as control every function. You can purchase a bluetooth remote from various manufacturers if you strive for the comfort of a regular remote when watching a movie. Also, there is a universal remote like the Logitech Harmony remote that has an adapter you can purchase that will allow you to control every function on the PS3 as well.

When comparing the new PS3 with the older PS3, the most obvious is the push button power and eject buttons on the new PS3 vs. the touch buttons on the older model, a dull black finish vs. a glossy piano black finish, and no power switch on the back like the older models have.

The PS3 is the most powerful console on the market. The blu-ray player is awesome and games like God of War III are epic. Connects wirelessly to the internet and and is way quieter than the x-box, which rumbles my floor. And the best part is it was tax free which save me $30. Thank you Amazon.

I bought the new slim for my son to replace his old ps3 that was beyound repair not knowing that the new slim was not backwards compatible. This is something sony really should look into my son has over 1000 games for his ps2 that him and his sisters play on and off than to mention ps1 games. Now if I wanted him to use them I will have to go out and buy a ps2 this is crazy. Please read the fine print I thought I did who new the new ps3 would be that much diff. I thought the software would still be the same.

Takes full advantage of my 1080P TV with the Blu-ray player. Streams Netflix for $8 bucks a month. I can surf the internet for free, talk with friends online and is very small in size compared to the original. I don't play PS2 games, so the "No Backwards Compatibility" does not bother me at all....LOVE IT! And no charge to play game online with friends...unlike Microsoft.

I had not really bothered with the PS3 before (mainly because of the cost) Now that the PS3 slimline is available for $[...] I decided to order one. I was able to add MediaTomb to my main Ubuntu computer to allow it to be used as a "media server" for the PS3 in about 15 minutes and was able to play music, videos, and photos from my home computer. That was something that I was not originally expecting to be able to do. (I was getting it mainly for games and to play Blu-Ray movies)

I downloaded about a dozen demo games the first night and will check out the demos before plunking down cash on the full versions of games. The wireless controller is nice but I opted to use wires for ethernet connection leaving the wireless free for the laptops... (wired is generally faster anyway)

I do not care too much for the built in browser but I was able to go to Netflix with it and add a few instant movies to my queue for playing with the Roku box. (I tried to play some hulu content but unfortunately it appears they are blocking the PS3)

I only bought one game and have not played many games with it but am very happy with the video quality hooked up to 1080p tv. (I do not have surround sound system so can not comment on those capabilites yet.)

I could easily see a "non-computer type" person using a PS3 as their main computer once they hooked a USB keyboard to it. If you use it as a media center, home computer, DVD / Blu-Ray player, etc it is not a bad value... I really would like PS2 compatibility and the ability to load Linux on it... but oh well...

I will probably stick to the PS2 in the RV anyway since it uses a LOT less power than the PS3 (especially when running it off 12 volt DC batteries using an inverter...)

To whoever else was asking.. YES it appears that a load click or two when ejecting a disc appears to be "normal."

I wish the software supported listening to music AND using the photo / slideshow stuff at the same time.... (but what do you want for $[...]...)

It does NOT come with an HDMI cable so go to monoprice or someplace else to get one for less than $[...] unless you want to give best buy or somebody a couple twenties...

Its small and saves a lot of space. It looks sleek and covers up for not keeping the feather touch. Final verdict is awesome console to have.
