This game is nuts!! Anyone who has a remote interest in platformers or even shooters should get this game, or at least try the demo. IMO this game is even better than uncharted and as good as ratchet and clank
inFamous is by far the best game of the years so far. The people who complain about the graphics are the people who are waaay to picky about stuff. The graphics were awesome. The gameplay is great and anyone who thought the missions got repetitive probaly never used more than one of your numerous powers. As you play through the story you unlock many powers such as gliding to calling lighting from the sky. when you unlock these powers your whole fighting style changes and when you upgrade these things get even more intricate.
The story is phenomanal and is even better in the fact that it gives you choices that effect the later story. These choices are one of the best parts of the game because its fun to be able to let that character that always annoyed you die or to save the civilian whose getting rocks thrown at him. These choices also greatly effect the city itself and the way the story goes if you spend your whole time in the game killing people someone may hate you and if you spend your time saving people you may have a better relationship with that person. The city could turn out to be a bright cheery place with a sunny sky and happy people or it could turn into a desolate wasteland with people crying in the streets, this all depends on the choices you make.
The story itself is great without the choices it has plenty of twists and turns and a jawdropping ending. This is a definate choice for any PS3 owner, so if you want a good game with a great story pick it up.
P.S.
Its a PS3 exclusive which is really nice to be able to shove it in the face of you friend who owns a 360.
I already managed to get 100% of all three districts completed. I must say that really enjoyed the game. The missions, powers, and the ability to scale anything, make this the most enjoyable sandbox style game I've ever played.
I think InFamous succeeds where others (Spiderman & Assassins Creed) have failed, because of the number and variety of the missions. The missions range from the quick and simple, to the more elaborate and complicated. They can at times be difficult, but the generous check points, ensure that they never feel like a chore to complete.
Even the optional side missions add to the over all game. Collecting dead drops help to flesh out the back story via audio logs (similar to BioShock). Collecting shards helps to increase the amount of electricity Cole can store in his body. They are optional, but they are very worth while.
The only fault I can manage to name would be that there are some slight graphical hiccups along the way, but it's never really anything major that detracts from the overall experience.
Over all, I would give Infamous a 9.5 out of 10.
I found this game to be quite a bit of fun, it can be frustrating to learn at first, but once you get your powers up and running you turn into quite the engine of destruction. The Karmic choices you have to make become genuinely difficult, and you may find yourself playing this game twice to try multiple routes. The city is beautifully animated, and you experience few visual glitches or pop ins even when jumping through the rooftops at high speed.
Infamous did something no other game has ever done. It got me to play the whole game through to the end. And I did it twice. The only other game I have ever been interested enough to finish was Resistance - and that was only because my daughter and I played it together. I get bored or stuck with every story game I have ever payed until now. The controls are set up perfectly. The story is not one you have to follow exactly. It is an open environment and you just do the missions as you come upon them, and only if you want to. There's plenty to do when you aren't ton a mission also.
One of the best features is the fact that you can play as a good guy or bad guy. Everything you do contributes to either being a nice guy or a horrible person (which is more fun I think). that was the main reason I played it through twice. The weapons do different things also depending on what kind of person you end up being. The actual story I thought was great. The ending was really good and unexpected. Of course, like I said I don't play these games that much. I am more into sports games. But I Recommend this most definitely.
I was very pleasantly surprised at how much i enjoyed this game. My only regret is having waited so long to buy it. It would have definitely been worth the $59.99 at launch.
The game is extremely fun, very challenging at some points (last fight is brutal), and it actually makes you want to do all the extra stuff. Not to mention that the game changes quite a bit when you decide to play it through with the opposite Karma, so it has at least one good replay in it.
Cliff Notes: Buy this game, you won't regret it!
This is an A+ title from the PS3 if you enjoy the sandbox/open world game genre. Here is a quick breakdown:
Story:
The story in this game is solid after playing one playthrough on good. I still have yet to play on 'evil', however the ending/storyline is well worth the effort. By that I mean it is a great payoff without giving anything away. It drags at points, as some of the main story missions do not advance the story more than a little bit at a time but with that being said it must be noted that this is par for the course for a sandbox game. The delivery of the story is very effective in my opinion, as they rely on a graphic novel/comic type delivery with stills and wonderful color delivery in this manner.
The ending alone has made me want to play through the game again to see another ending/storyline unfold. If story is your thing in a game, this game is above average in this capacity, short of great.
Graphics: Very well done as the game is broken up into 3 'city portions' and is basically a nuclear-waste looking city. The atmosphere by the graphics are well done, however it suffers with a drab looking palate most of the time relying on greys/browns and mostly dark cool and warm colors but nothing flashy. This is the mood they wanted to go for no doubt, but it does become a bit repetitive. The character models suffer from a blocky look aside from the main character but given the capacity of this game, as are with most sandbox games, this is excusable in my opinion and is not why I play sandbox games. If you get hung up on character models, this might be a problem for you.
As stated before, the cutscenes are delivered through a comic/graphic style that fits the game perfectly. The reason for this is because it suits the drab/dark mood of the game well. What is nice about many of these scenes is that they do utilize flashy colors at times which helps these scenes stand out apart from the game.
Sound: The techno-type beats during missions and fights are well done and not intrusive. Not much during the game in terms of "theme" or 'mood' music as there are in other games, but, again, this quite par for the course in sandbox games. Not a problem. The sound effects are great with your powers of electricity.
Gameplay: This is where the game shines, as it is more than fun to jump around throughout the city, scaling walls, sliding on tracks (train and telephone lines) and the progression of the powers you get as you progress is wonderful. They allow you to travel the city portions faster as your progress and are actually very fun throughout the game, though you will backtrack throughout the city much (especially if you are collecting the shards and other stuff).
The powers are very fun to use as well. While you have one type of power/weapon, this is also the 'hook' in the game. The lightning powers you utilize are varied and fun to use. The enemies do get much more difficult as the game progresses (on hard anyway) and the power ups you recieve accordingly (both spending points on and normal game progression power ups) make the reptitive fights very fun. By repetitive fights I mean the enemies follow the pattern of "fight here, move to another point in the city and encounter more fights". This is just fine and this is contrasted to one of my big gripes with GTA 4, for example. There is not enough city-wide fighting in between missions in GTA lest you provoke fights with cops. There is not enough "territorial" type attacking going on against your character in GTA - on the contrary, this game has plenty of this and makes the player want to progress their character to have more powers to handle this.
This is certainly not an exhaustive review, as there is much more to mention, from choices your make and the karma-path mechanic.
This is a gem of a game if you are into the sandbox genre, if you like action and a gratifying play-control mechanic that is plain fun to scour the city.
9.5/10
The game play is smooth and seamless. Even when both good and evil missions, I continued to play just to explore and engage the bad guys that appeared. It's open world is easily navigable and there was no lag when traversing between the cities. This game is sweet! I can hardly wait for other games from Suckerpunch.
I would be willing to put money on this game for GOTY. I'll start off with the graphics which I give 9/10. Even though Killzone 2 and MGS 4 may be better graphically, this game's graphics are still very exceptional.
Gameplay I give 11/10...lol. I don't know if any other game will be able to match the amount of gameplay this game has. Throughout the entire game, you will be presented with story missions and 3 different kinds of side missions(Evil, good, regular). The regular side missions will have you destroying surveillance cameras, unpolluting water, protecting armored busses, racing past satellite uplinks, etc. For each of these missions that you complete, you will free up part of the district that you're in. There are 3 districs in this game which are the historic district, Neon district, and warren district. Also, throughout the game you will continue to receive new abilities like the thunder drop, megawatt hammer, shock grenade, and many others. Some powers you can only unlock with positive Karma and others you need negative karma. My first playthrough I was doing all the evil missions and choosing evil karma when given the chance. Since i've completed the story mode, i've been working on finding blast shards and finishing all remaining side missions to see what trophies I can get. Next time i'll be playing in Hero mode.
Bottom line is, this game does not disappoint and is worthy of a first day buy.
Graphics - Awesome...While not Killzone 2 quality it easily puts other open world/city games (GTAIV, Saints Row, Mercenaries 2) to shame as far as texture quality, scenery, etc.
Gameplay - There are tons of different powers/combinations at your disposal that make taking out enemies far from repetitive. You can do anything from a regular shock to a force push, grenades, and others (I won't spoil it for everyone!).
- Mission layout -
Extremely addictive. There are regular sidequests, evil/good sidequests, and storyline quests that populate different areas of the city....On my first playthrough I've chosen the hero path and when I finished the game (last night) I had completed 37 quests total and put in approximately 10-12 hours of gameplay...This might appear as if this game doesn't offer enough gameplay per mission but the bulk of quest types I've completed are the regular or "yellow" quests which are fairly simple and fast paced, storyline quests range from 15-20 minutes to 30-45 minutes.
- Replayability -
I guess this ties in with mission layout as well but as I said I've completed 37 missions and only have 17% done on one island, 45% on another, and 15% on the last one...Also, I've only completed 3 good sidequests out of 15...If I were to guess I'd said that there are around 80-100 quests altogether which is very awesome.
You do see repetitive sidequests in certain areas but do not dispair, this game plays off of its strengths and only repeats what's fun...Beyond different quests are the morality choices which will change the way the game is played...Depending on if you're good or evil you receive different powers, different quests, and different rewards. I can't wait to start my evil playthrough tonight...
Difficulty level - It's difficulty has a very broad range which is surprisingly refreshing...Certain sidequests you will blow through, others you will spend 10 minutes on attempting to locate a package that's 3 city blocks away with only a picture...Boss fights and massive enemy battles do see difficulty spikes which will make you take cover to figure the situation out before you run and gun, there are definitely some very tricky situations (an entire war between 2 rival gangs going on right in front of you) but IMO these provide a welcome challenge....
-------------------Summary-------------------
****The good****
- ALOT of replay value which = more bang for your $.
- Non-repetitive storyline quests. Thank you Sucker Punch for making me forget about the monotonous P.O.S. that was GTAIV.
- Smooth flowing gameplay which is very easy to learn and master....Simply put, sliding from wire to wire and flying off of buildings is just awesome.
- Beautiful scenery. Wonderful graphics that truly make the city come alive and show off the destructive force of your hero.
- IMO, the best mix of open world gameplay combined with platforming elements I've ever seen.
****The bad****
- Semi-confusing storyline. Maybe it's just me, but it seems as if this game contains so many tiwsts and turns it's hard to keep up at times....Also, certain plot holes with Moya arrise towards the end BUT I'm trying to keep this review as spoil free as possible so I won't go into it.
- Mr. Sticky pants is not so sticky sometimes. You will notice that in certain rare situations your character will not stick to the object you're jumping to...It doesn't occur often and usually only requires tapping x one more time...But does get annoying when 15 guys are shooting at you while you're trying to scale a building.
- Annoying side kick. Shut up Zeke, just shut up, I don't need to hear anymore one liners or have to save your azz anymore, just shut up, get a box of doughnuts and go back to your ghetto roof top home.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ In conclusion _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
It's easy enough to pick up, has an engrosing storyline (for the most part), is jam packed with action, and provides a very broad freedomn of choice...Combine this with platforming elements and it's almost impossible not to recommend this game to every PS3 owner.
this is an awesome game.
i wasnt expecting for it to be detailed. but its beautiful in terms of graphics.
the game play is great.
the story is every thing you expect out of a great game.
i love it over all.
This game is great, and it has a lot of content. Great buy over all
I bought this game for my fiance who is a huge video gamer and he says its the best game yet. He usually beats games pretty quickly and he still has not beaten this game and its been over a month of him playing it every day. He said that there are defferent ways to play the game so even when he does beat it he can start over and do it a different way.
Infamous is about a guy who get's electrical powers from a bomb that goes off near him somehow he survives and developes superpowers because of the the electricity. The Story line is nothing new but it takes you in a world all of it's own. You can either be good throughout your story or evil. If you ask me good is more fun and a little easier because people are not throwing rocks at you the whole game. The biggest complaint i have is the gangs they themselves are not really tied into the story well but that is pretty minor.
The graffics are great there are a few times in the game where it kinda glitches but what game doesn't overall great graffics especially the lightning effects. One thing that really impressed me right from the start was the falling. When you jump off of a building you accelerate like you would in real life and it almost gives you the tightening up of your stomach like you were really following. This only happens till you get used to it though then you don't get it anymore.
I highly recommend this game even though there is not multiplayer which would be fun to add later on hint hint wink wink... It's fun the grafics are good and if you like to blow stuff up in new creative ways this game is a great fit for you.
Hope this helps.
Infamous is proving to be a pleasant surprise for me as I'm not historically into sandbox games. GTA IV was ok. Crackdown and Saints Row had their moments. Infamous is in another league. The graphics are fantastic, considering it's an open-world, seemless game. The plot is cool and easy to understand. The "motion comics" cut scenes are a nice touch that gives this game a real super hero vibe. Most importantly, the controls work very well and are intuitive. It's just fun to play.
I like how you can spend your XP on power upgrades (e.g. energy grenades, healing, low damage, etc.). The quests are relatively short and entertaining. They can seem a little repetitive (go turn on the power in this sewer, now go turn on the power in that sewer, repeat), but the fact that they are short allows you to get to something new in no time.
I was sitting on the fence regarding whether or not to buy this game, but I'm glad I pulled the trigger and got it. I think it'll convince some folks to get a PS3. It's that good.
