I remember back when collectors edition games were first coming out you really got a lot of stuff, it was like opening up a big gift on christmas morning. The GOW3 collectors or "ultimate" edition is far from ultimate.
You get a flimsy plastic "pandoras box" then inside is just the art book and the game and a piece of paper folded up into a box, that goes inside the box, to fill up all the empty space leftover. Theres other things listed on what you get, including multiple soundtracks, a documentary on how it's made, and an extra skin for your character. Cool in concept, but i was expecting cds and/or dvds or something, but instead all i got was a sheet of paper with "codes" that i go online to receive my goods.
It just feels cheap, like they wouldn't even shell out the money to give me something physical. It's like they'd rather opt out of the 20 cents for a CD and dollar for the DVD despite my paying 99 dollars (about 20-30 dollars more than most "collectors edition" games) The art book is about 1/4 the size of most other art books that come with games too, it's slightly larger than a deck of cards, which is quite the departure from their last art book that came with the game which was a little bigger than a graphic novel and chock full of great art, which is what i was expecting.
The game is great, 5 stars for the game, but only 2 stars for the collectors edition. It would get 1 star but the art book is still really good; their artists do amazing work. But unfortunately their marketing team does not, they seem to only be good at selling snake oil & plastic boxes. Don't get the collectors edition and DO NOT pay the outrageous 150.00+ that some people are selling it for. All you get is a plastic box, with the game, a list of "codes" to redeem online, and an art book roughly bigger than a deck of cards. I'm very disappointed...
Hi, I decide to write this review, because I feel disappointed with the ultimate edition of GOW 3, and here's why
1. The box is on cheap plastic.
2. Downloadable Content skins, if your codes works, but is not a great deal.
3. The music, also downloadable content, again if your codes works, is pure mp3(not a good format for music, only for weight of the files) I will prefer physical discs.
4. The documental, again downloadable content, and like the music it will be better in a physical disc.
So is $100 for a disc that is a game, a book with art and a box of cheap plastic, and the rest is downloadable content, so the rate is for the content in the ultimate edition, but the game is a 5 star.
I recommend Don't buy it, is not worth, buy better the standard edition and you will save a lot of money, don't make the same mistake that I did.
GOD OF WAR 3 ???
1-Simply the most amazing game i ever played!!!!!
2-the single most epic experiance you can have in your life.
3-brutal grand scale game that i have ever played.
4-Stunning visuals and a grand sense of scale make it a game you won't want to miss.
5-No game can match the epicness of this game.
6-The most epic part of the series.
7-unforgettable moments!
8-Everyone that got a PS3 should absolutely have this game. When you get it, you will understand why.
The "Pandora's Box" that comes in this edition is really low quality. Everything in my box was covered in tiny black hairs from the low quality velvet material they lined the box with. The box itself appears to be thin black plastic dry brushed gold, very basic and very cheap. The picture book that it comes with is interesting but contains spelling errors which make it feel rushed and unpolished.
I do recommend the game though just save your money and do not buy the "Ultimately Crappy Edition".
This game is amazing if you can keep it consistently going. I was playing GOW3 on a PS3 FAT 80GB 1st Gen and my PS3 died (Yellow Light of Death due to motherboard death). I had to buy a PS3 Slim 120 GB (April 2010). This game is amazing for it's storytelling, gameplay and overall experience, BUT this game will crash. I have the Ultimate Edition. Be care not to overload your saves. I had around 10 save files and then the audio would loop, freeze, restart the system. Save often. I only allow 7 saves files of GOW3 at one time. Save files corrupt very easily. Save at every save point, but don't exceed the 7 save file limit, so overwrite your oldest save file. I had to backtrack in my saves repeatedly. Sometimes more than 1 file will corrupt and you'll need to backtrack until your on a clean save that will get you through the glitch/bug. Another trick that a lot of people have tried and worked, somewhat, is using a corrupted save and WALKING Kratos back to an earlier save and saving then picking up from that save point. Patience is a virtue I don't have. I spent more time restarting, going back to uncorrupted saves and replaying then being in the GOW3 experience. Good luck to all of you getting through this game. Santa Monica Studios and SCEA needs better QA.
