God of War: Collection

Re-released on the Playstation 3, God of War 1 & 2 are back. However, these aren't just ports. Both games are now shown in full 720p, support trophies, and house more than what the original titles brought to the Playstation 2.

Players take control of Kratos, a former Spartan general, now puppet to the Gods.

In the first game, Kratos is tasked with the impossible. Kill Ares, the God of War, and save the city of Athens from his army of hell. Masterfully written, giving the players a new look at Greek mythology, unlike any other game.

In the second installment, Kratos, the new God of War, uses his new position to command the Spartan army to conquer the world. However, there are those on Mount Olympus who see his actions in a darker light than the mortals. And so, the gears of betrayal have begun to spin.

Like with any game with a mature rating, it should only be bought and played by those who understand the difference between fantasy and reality. If you're child can't do that, or you, as a parent, won't supervise and instruct your kids, don't buy this, or any other mature rated title.

I have never played the GOW series on ps2, and now I am living the hype that i heard about on ps2 year ago. This game is addicting and alot of fun! It has gore, blood, and some other MATURE items you should look into before getting it for a kid. The remastering makes it look great and the sound is wonderful. I have played just a few hours and can't put the controller down. It also comes with a demo code for GOW 3 as well! Great package, and the only real knock i can give so far is the cut scenes are playstation 2 graphics, but it still looks good! I have been spoiled by HD Gaming and this game will not dissapoint! Must own for fans of the games and for new fans to come!

i was told so much about GoW3, but i didnt want to spend that much money on unknown game, so i bought these to try. And i love them, in fact, i like them more than the GoW3

There isn't much more that needs to be said about this. GoW and GoW2 are two of the greatest games ever made with excellent reviews nearly anywhere you look. The games are great. If you never played them, buy this without hesitation. If you have the ps2 versions, buy this one anyways and have them both on a single disc with some improvements (especially since newer ps3's are not backwards compatible).

I love the game. It does have a lot better graphics than the ps2 version except for the cut scenes. Well worth the money specially after the reduced price. If you havent played GOW ever, this is the time to buy it. Also you get to download the demo for GOW III and $5 off on the game when it releases. So there is no reason as to why you shouldnt buy this collection.

If you are a fan of God of War, you know that it is a great series, I have been waiting for this to be translated over, and it looks really good, not has good as GWIII beta but it is still very sharp and a great play. well worth the $35

Wow! I must say, if you want to enjoy this game you must be patient and brave.

First of all, is it still necessary to talk about the wonderful graphics AND music? Yes, I believe it is because it makes the game what it is, visuals that bring you into a world you can be into. The music is beautiful and give rhythm and atmosphere to your game. The story (absolutely not accurate) is awesome and builds you into it so much!

Finally, a game that is challenging but NOT impossible, yes you have to die many a time and say NO to the enticing yet embarrassing "Would you like to switch to easy mode?". You're gonna curse and scream in front of your tv so much, (our neighbors must think we're having marital problems).

It is a hard game, but it makes you think of puzzles, tactics, moves, speed... It's not just sword sword kill sword sword kill (well it kinda is). You go against many different enemies who have different skills (so you have to adjust to each one of them). It doesn't feel like you're doing the same thing over and over again.

I finished the first one and started the second, I love it, I'm addicted to it, yeah God of War!

This pretty much gets people who never had the chance to play GOW I/II a chance to get up to speed to GOW III that is coming out March 31st. This game is just as great as how it was on the PS2 and if not, better. 39 dollars? Great! 2 games for the price of one? GREAT! Overall, good game and price...Amazon was quite cheaper...no tax and at 36.99.

I originally played God of War 1 & 2 on my PS2 several years ago and thoroughly enjoyed both games. For people not familiar with the series, God of War places you in control of the fictional character named Kratos. The games are set in Greek Mythology, though they do deviate heavily and take several liberties with accepted mythology. As a work of fiction, the games are fantastic! Anyone looking for a history lesson in Greek Mythology is going to be disappointed.

The PS3 version combines both God of War 1 & 2 on one Blu-ray Disc with all the extras and special features from the original games. The graphics have been polished up and are anti-aliased (rough edges smoothed out) and presented in 720p at 60 frames per second. Both games feature their own respect trophy set. The results are spectacular given the original material. I'll state though that the games are definitely not up to the standards set by most top-tier PS3 games. Also GoW 2 is clearly the better looking game. Though for anyone who has ever played the games on the PS2, you'll be seeing the series better than you ever thought possible.

The two games in this collection take Kratos from humble beginnings all the way to Olympian deity. The journey along the way is fraught with screen-filling bosses, amble amounts of gore and dismemberment and some of the best voice-acting ever heard in a video game. Gameplay is probably best described as a hack-n-slash platformer. Think Devil May Cry but with more forgiving controls and combos and a much better camera system.

I've read a few reviews that claim the games are not for "casual" gamers and that the difficulty is turned to high. I disagree and offer that the games each have multiple selectable difficulty levels. Both games also offer the player the ability to switch to easy mode at any point in the game without having to start over. In easy mode you can rest assured that you'll have a leisurely stroll through the game.

One area of disappointment that I have with this collection are that the original CG cutscenes haven't been redone and in most cases look worse than the actual gameplay. It's understand given the price of the set but still a bit of a letdown. Otherwise this is an amazing deal for two of the best PS2 games ever released. Also, if you're new to the series and are interested in playing God of War 3 I would highly recommend playing GoW 1 & 2 first as each game is a direct sequel.

I don't have the perspective a lot of the reviewers have ("best ps2 game ever", etc, etc). I came to this game after playing Dante's Inferno on the PS3. All of the reviews claimed that the Inferno was extremely similar to GOW, so I checked it out. It is true, the games are remarkably similar. Nevertheless, I fell in love with this genre!

This game has great graphics and even more amazing sounds. If you aren't familiar, these two games are PS2 games re-released on the PS3. They are of the hack and slash, button mashing, taking out all enemies, huge end bosses variety. Since the action is so fast paced, most of the time, you cannot even tell this game was originally designed for the PS2. During cut-scenes, you sometimes get the feeling that something isn't right, which must be the upconversion to 720p (done by the development team) showing itself. Regardless, these two games on one disc are amazing.

The one thing I find annoying is the lack of user-camera control. Sometimes, I like to stop running around the world, and just pan around to get the lay of the land. Unfortunately, that is missing (in the first game, at least.) I haven't made my way into the second game yet.

If you are a GOW fan, then this is a must for your PS3. One thing I have learned is that there is a storyline arc that stretches across all of the GOW games. I am very excited to play each one out and to follow the story.
