I had played both Ninja Gaidens before, so at first the controls seemed sloppy. I'm used to them now and a lot of the moves are more entertaining than Ryu's. This series is a must play for any action type gamer.

The remastering is great on this game. The funny thing is that the cut scenes look 100 times worse than the actual game play. How backwards is that? I don't know if this was because the remaster team wanted you to notice their nice work or because the original (not down scaled) scene was lost or deleted. Anyways, it's both funny and distracting from the game play.

Oh...milk dud nipples.

I never played either game until now but consider me a HUGE fan. I just finished up God Of War I and half way through God Of War II. Amazing. Story, fun factor, challenge, graphics, and music is all top notch. If you are a fan of Mythology and a fan of games that offer an easy pick up and play vibe but still want a challenge this is the perfect set if you own a PS3. Cannot wait for God Of War III. Epic.

I bought this bad boy. It got here on time. As soon as it got here i ripped it open and played. Maybe one of the greatest game series ever. And besides the two actual games, mine came with an E3 demo for God of War 3 (set to come out March 2010). Both games are beautifully remastered. A lot of the scenes are even in that new HD look where it looks like Kratos will crawl out of my screen and rip me in half. Anyways, the games are great, if you haven't tried them you really should. I've beaten both of them already and i still can play it all day.

Awesome game! superb action moves and hard puzzles. I like the swinging and later gliding capability in part II. Hooked up as soon as I started this game. But sometimes during game-play a character may hang or trap due to some programmatic error so you may have to restart from last save (not much of problem happened only couple of times in entire game). The controls are slightly different in part I and part II so need to adjust yourself before playing one after another. If you play part I and II simultaneously you will get confused due to different controls.

If you are a fan of GOW or are new to the series I highly encourage you to pick up this game. In my opinion this is one of the most entertaining games, gameplay and storywise, that I have ever played. The one problem I have with this collection is that not all of the cutscenes were redone in HD. You can tell immediately when some movies start that they are PS2 graphics. With that one exception everything else about the game is great. Fast action, fluid controls, over-the-top brutality, and a great story loosely based on Greek mythology. Plus you get a GOW3 demo code!

As if the original games weren't good enough this game just blows its greatness out of proportion. It has awesome graphics! The stories are the same but if you enjoyed playing them on ps2 then you will love playing them again on the ps3. This is a great buy for its great value.

I bought this game set along with GWIII and just about lost myself in the game. Nicely adapted for PS3. I didn't have a life for 3 weeks. Money well spent.

I have 2 xbox360s and quite a few 360 games. I went and bought me the ps3 bundle gamestop had on black friday, which came with GOW I& II. I think that was the best ps3 bundle that was offered on this year's black friday (due to god of war). Anyways, I hooked the system up and popped god of war in it and before I know it, it was 2 am in the morning-I had played it for 8 hours straight. In my opinion you are reading a review about the best game ever made. I am extremely glad that I eventually got me a ps3 and looking forward to sell one of my xboxs and most of my xbox games as they can not even be compared to blue ray video and sound quality - not even considering the great story line games like god of war have to offer. If you consider yourself at least a "half way" gamer this is one game you do not wanna miss out on.

- This game is really fun.

- The video quality of the cutscenes is worse than that of the normal gameplay (possibly because the cutscenes haven't been remastered for PS3). However, this doesn't negatively impact the game.

- I will offer one caveat to parents who are thinking about buying any of the God of War games for their kids: the game are very violent. However, if your child understands the distinction between video game violence and real violence then I see no problem with him or her playing the game.

- The game also contains a good amount of greek mythology and the overall plot is exceptionally well written for a video game. I think the story would actually make a great novel.

- I will be purchasing God of War III in the near future and I expect it to be just as enjoyable as God of War I and II.

I loved the God of War series and have always thought that the franchise is a major staple in the history of gaming and may single handily define Sony and their consoles. From the PS2 to the PSP, Kratos has always been one of the most interesting lead characters in a game franchise. However, several years into the PS3 life cycle, Kratos has been absent from the new hardware. Sony has revitalized God of War with this collection so that even those who have purchased newer, non-backwards compatible PlayStation 3 hardware may be able to revisit the games that helped set a new standard for action games. Running in native 720p, as compared to upscaling to 720p via backward compatible units playing the PS2 versions, the games run much smoother than their last generation counterparts. With great anti-aliasing being utilized, the game looks like a new game all on its own. It's almost impossible to think that these were once PS2 games. The one thing that Sony did overlook when producing this game was enhancing the cut-scenes of the game that utilize the in-game engine. These still appear to have the same resolution of the original games since when the game gets to these moments a drastically noticeable drop in resolution occurs. This is just a minor flaw and I can completely overlook it since I still think they look fairly good, just not as good as the rest of the game. If anyone has not played the first two games of this franchise, then I highly recommend this game. If someone owns the original two games, I also highly recommend this purchase since you will be missing out on trophies and native 720p resolution. The game also comes packaged with a voucher for the demo version of God of War III. So there is really no reason why someone who owns a PS3 should not pick this game up, even if you've played the originals they fail in comparison to this version. If you've ever been interested or intrigued by the series, now is your chance to get the first two parts of the trilogy for the same price it would cost to purchase the two PS2 versions.

When I first played God of War on the PS2, it was one of those games where as you get towards the end, you start realizing how close you are to being done and you get a feeling of dread.. "No! There must be more! Please!".. I had so much fun with the first GoW that I went back and played it on God mode (so crazy), did the Challenge of the Titans, etc.. I'm not normally "that guy", but I went back and unlocked EVERYTHING with GoW 1.

Unfortunately, my PS2 and I fell out of speaking terms for a while and I missed out on GoW 2.. So, how overjoyed was I to hear that the first two games were being remastered and cleaned up for the release of the 3rd (Note: Very)?

I went back and played GoW1 again on my PS3 hooked up to my Samsung 55" LED. I can tell you that the game looks amazing. Granted, it will not quite rival most native PS3 games as it lacks some of the anti-aliasing goodness that the newer games are built with. However, it looks superior to anything I have on my Xbox 360 and holds its own well enough against most of my PS3 games. God of War II looks even better, although some of the aliasing is evident in the panoramic 'pull back' shots.

So enough about the appearance, how about the games themselves? Well, the God of War is, simply put, an epic game in feel. As you traverse the often huge levels, you find yourself realizing how everywhere you have been connects. In fact, you can just about walk back to the earliest stages of the game from all but the last (in case you miss a trinket or something). The mammoth scale of God of War becomes apparent when you are working your way through Pandora's Maze; on your first trip through you will find yourself suddenly finding the key item to unlock an area you passed so far back you had forgotten about it.. only to find you have been brought full circle. The gameplay is epic in scale and while the computer's AI is somewhat simplistic at times, the sheer scale of the game makes it a continual challenge. Once you beat it, do try God mode. It is one of those rare games where if you beat it on God Mode, you will walk away feeling like you actually accomplished something.. it is THAT hard.

God of War II picks up right where the first leaves off, yet improves in pretty much every area. The gameplay is more fluid, Kratos has more moves and evasion techniques. The enemies are more numerous, larger in scale and MUCH smarter. FInally, the puzzles are significantly more intricate; a few will make you want to tear your hair out when you realize you have been staring the answer in the face for 30 minutes. While GoW2 is harder than the first, it still never escalates to that level of frustration where it stops being fun. I cannot yet speak to the Titan Mode level as I am currently saved at the last boss fight and hope to finish it tonight (I made myself promise I would go back and play 1 & 2 before starting God of War III).

Be aware, this is NOT a game for young children as there is quite a bit of blood and gore and the underlying storyline is .. well.. Kratos is a Spartan so.. let's just say "Brutally Greek". Murder, chaos and pillaging are all a day's work for your average Spartan and Kratos is an overachiever :).

All in all, adult gamers who like more than button-slapper games will not be disappointed by this franchise.
