If you love Greek Mythology then you'll definitely love God of War. This is definitely a must have if you have a ps3. Graphics aren't epic but they're good. And if you hate figuring out what to do next (e.g.. puzzles-which happens quite a lot in this game) just google a walkthrough and you're set! All and all a really nice game and really nice story line. You wont be disappointed.

If you're in the mood for some random violence (as I am at the moment after dealing with a new brand of idiots at work) this game is great. I had never played these games even though people have raved about them for years. Finally I broke down and bought this fantastic collection and I have to say - it's well worth the money.

From the very beginning you're killing bad things (I assume they are bad things) and lots of them. You start out as pretty much a Bad A$$ and only get better from there.

Now I'm not a highly skilled gamer, so when things require combos or tons of patience... they aren't the game for me. I want to hit a few buttons and for things to happen. I was thrilled with the on screen prompts that told me what to do to kill the bad guys. I spend all day at work figuring crap out - I want my games fairly simple.

Now as to the story... it's no Bioware Title, but it does have a much stronger storyline then most "wander around and kill things" games. I did get a trophy right off for dying so many times it wanted me to lower the difficutly... but let me warn you, even lowering the difficulty doesnt make walking across those stupid boards any easier. There are little puzzles that require a bit of paying attention to figure out. But none of the ones I have come across have been tough enough for me to have to resort to the internet. Then again I haven't finished either game yet.

In regards to the new and improved graphics - I haven't seen the old graphics but these worked fine for me. They weren't PS3 graphics, but they were pretty snazzy.

For the price, getting both games is well worth it. Both are highly entertaining.

I was new to the GoW series when I bought this God of War Collection. The first thing I noticed was the remastered graphics was awesome. Whether you play it on 720p or 1080p, the graphics looks completely PS3, not PS2-era. The sound is great, too.

The story is confusing, but the gameplay is top-notch, made more fun by the user-friendly controller scheme. The game succeeds in integrating all the elements gamers love about action and adventure games. A few of the box puzzles can be tedious, but well worth the time and effort. The game's real-time environemnt is indeed cinematic.

In short, for someone who's never played the GoW games on the PS2, this is an awesome experience, one surely not to be missed.

I am new to the GOW franchise and have heard great things about the games, but was unable to play them until now as my PS3 is not backwards compatible. First, I would like to say to parents, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME FOR CHILDREN UNDER 18. The game does contain some nudity and suggestive themes and is very violent.

I was impressed by the game play and graphics. It was like Devil May Cry meets 300. The games contain killer combos and a great upgrade system, but there is one thing about the game that bothered me.

I consider myself a fairly good gamer, but there were points in GOW that frustrated me to no end. Even changing it to easy did not seem to make a difference. For example, in the Hades level you have to climb up rotating pillars, while blades are rotating around. Sounds simple enough right? Wrong, you touch one and you fall all the way down to the bottom and start over. This is just one of many frustrating obstacles. With that being said though, for some reason the game compels you to keep trying and eventually get through it no matter how many times you have to try. I am starting on GOW II now and so far so good.

PROS:

-Great graphics and story.

-Good control.

-Great value.

CONS:

-May be too difficult at times for some gamers.I would definitely recommend this game, but beware if you are just a casual gamer. The quest will not be easy. If you like this game you may also like the Devil May Cry series if your PS3 is backwards compatible.

I have owned the God of War for PS2 and I bought this mainly for God of War II, which I didn't play on PS2 and could now do it on PS3 and the bonus is the first game anyway.

I have always liked these kind of games and its the challenge and the levels of game play that make it interesting and keeps you glued to the gameplay.

I Feel this is worth the money if have upgraded to PS3 and would want to play any of the title ever.

God of War and God of War II were definitely two of the best, original games ever created for the PS2. They were challenging, violent, incredibly fun, intelligent, and featured graphics that not only pushed the PS2 to its limits, but may in fact have been the best looking games to ever appear on the system. Now, here we are with the God of War Collection for the PS3, which features God of War I & II re-mastered and re-vitalized for the console. Needless to say, the games look even more fantastic in HD, and play just as well and wonderful as they always have before. If you don't already own or have never played either game on the PS2, then you need to, at the very least, give the God of War Collection a try, and even if you have played the games before, playing them again in HD on the PS3 is certainly worth taking another revenge-driven trip with Kratos. The only flaw here is that playing both games will leave you drooling for God of War III, which can't arrive here soon enough.

I initially got into God of War with the version that game out on the PSP. It was my first time playing the game and let me say that I was all in. The little mini games with the various bosses are great and it adds depth and value to the game. Just great re-playability. I wanted to get GoW 1&2, but didn't want to buy and PS2 as I have a PS3 that isnt backwards compatible. However, when I heard the games were being re-released on the 3 in HD, this was great news. I purchased this as soon as it was released and have not been disappointed yet. Same great game play as in the PSP version. I hope more games like this come out in the feature and I cannot wait until GoW 3 is released. BTW, you get the GoW 3 E3 demo download voucher with this purchase, cannot beat that. If that's not incentive enough to buy it.

Great game, worth the money considering you get 2 games for the price of one. Definite a must buy if you happen to be a God of War fan.

You can really tell the graphics are redone and it looks a lot better. The only thing that i didnt like about this game was they didnt fix the cut-scenes. which is weird if they did it to the game already why not go that extra step and convert the whole thing.

God of War: Collection contains both God of War and God of War II remastered for the PS3. The entire series is one of my favorites, especially on consoles.

If you are familiar with the PS2 versions you will definitely notice a difference in graphical quality. I don't have the best audio setup currently so I can only say the audio is at least as good as the originals :P

Being that newer PS3s are not backwards compatible with the PS2 this is a huge win for late adopters to the PS3.

The Good:

- You get bang for your buck, for non-PS2 owners (like myself) this collection is great value (plus it's in HD)

- Great action Game (though not at all original)

- Great Puzzles (not too confusing but breaks up the action sequences perfectly) and they make sense!

The Bad:

- Storytelling of an immature child (heed the warning, the mature rating is only because of violence and nudity and not the story, there is nothing grand or epic about this plot, adults who appreciate good plot need not apply)

- Pointless sections of the game that test your patience to no end(the spike room...)

- I've played Devil May Cry 3, is this the same game... can't really tell (they even used the same graphics of Red Soul Lava thingies blocking doorways during boss fights)

- ZERO replayability.

I know a lot of people just swoon over GOW I & II like girls over boy-bands, but let me tell you it's not that amazing. I picked this up first for the PS2, both games, used for under $20 and played about half of the first game, but even in wide-screen mode it was hard to play the blurry 480p graphics on my 42" screen. When this update was announced and IGN praised the graphics (especially GOWII as the first one has horrible cut-scenes that look far inferior to the actual game)I decided the price was too good and with three coming out it seemed like the perfect time to put these two games to rest.

Part one goes by fairly painlessly. The main issue I had where the clunky swimming controls. However, overall it's a fun game, lots of puzzles, exploration and excellent battles to be won. The game does deteriorate slightly near the end as the constant need to press the right button at the right moment as they flash on the screen becomes the most important thing in the game -- this substituting for the brilliantly complex way say Link or Samus would have to kill a boss, is a cop-out in design and damned pointless.

The second game get's hairy. This time around fighting is an afterthought, the God of War is of course dragged down and turned mortal again (so we can have a sequel)immediately making the game feel unworthy and more like a cheap attempt to capitalize on the first. But he doesn't really have to fight, most of the game is spent doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and ... until you GET IT RIGHT. At the moment of writing this review I am facing down an impossible task, pull a lever, lower a door, run to a vent, double jump, fly to roof and coast over door before it slams shut ... yeah, right. You have to literally be running back to that vent before the game camera pans away from that door.(the real flaw here is logic, this guy breaks down huge stone walls, he can't chip a piece off, jam the lever open and just casually climb over???) There is NOT ONE SECOND of room for error and that defines this game, do it, do it again, keep doing it until it's perfect. Most of the hard puzzles could be solved by jamming a stone in a lever or tying something off with a bit of rope -- the logic here defies reason, why on earth do all these complex tasks when simple solutions are present but the game-makers render unavailable, before asking the player to do something really annoying you have to kill off all other logical options. If this was the first game, I'd never finish it, never play a sequel, I'm learning to hate it. There's not a few areas in this game like this, IT'S THE ENTIRE GAME. Every time I turn it on it's "how many hours of the same screen/task today? This entire game is designed around how fast and perfect you can press buttons. It gets very frustrating as you double jump from swinging grapple to grapple and as you pound the R1 button to grab the next grapple he grabs the last one again instead, when double jump doesn't register and you fall like a stone and have to start an area over. It's not the challenge, it's the fact that the game relies on both controller and player to be PERFECT task after task there's no room and that brings the game down.

I hope GOWIII is more like one and not at all like two.

I got this game for an "in between game". Once I started to play it, it became addicting. I just couldn't stop playing it if I had any spare time. I liked the way they mixed in the mythology with the game. The graphics were top shelf as well. The only thing that I didn't think highly of was all the puzzles. I know that you have to put something in to take up some time. You can't run around hackin' and slashin', right? However, some people don't have all day to sit in front of the PS3 to figure out one puzzle. I had to go online and get walkthroughs just for the puzzles. I did try and figure them out before going to the walkthroughs, but it didn't last long. On the GOD 2 game there was one puzzle I know that wouldn't have been able to figure out without the walkthroughs. Maybe it's just that I don't have the patience to sit there and figure it out for hours. I may get the GOD 3 when it comes out, but I will get the book if it has one too for the puzzles. I guess I'm more of a hacker and slasher gamer.
