First of all I have never been a first person shooter fan. EVER!. I was always only and purely an rpg man. But ever since (square) (enix) united and took over the final fantasy realm I have been at a lose. Even after XIII. But I guess I dont care any more becaus this game gave me my fix. I am addicted and fascinated. I am of the older rpg generation where turn passed ruled. I am sold on Fallout 3

So I was hyped to play the expansion packs finally. I got my copy, started playing it and after mqaybe 40 minutes the problems started. I enterd the Point Lookout area and started having massive framerate drops and freezing. The first time it happened in VATS, but the game unfroze after a few seconds. Ok I thought, maybe just a one-time thing. Less than a minute later, the game freezes again. This time though, it stayed frozen, causing me to do a hard reset on my PS3. I gave it another shot and still got the same issues.

After letting the game collect dust, I recently tried another DLC, this time The Pitt. I got maybe 10 minutes in and had yet again massive framerate issues. This eventually led to a frozen game. What is going on here?

I have tried everything to fix this. Started in safe mode and restored file system. Reinstalled the Game Data numerous times, tried saving often, but all to no avail. The worst part is that vanilla Fallout 3 works perfect, except for the occasional 1-second pause, which rarely ever happens and always fixes itself. Bethesda is also no help, as they advised me to do the things which I had already tried. Eventually, Bethesda said to check their site often for patch news and that was the last I heard from Bethesda.

Put simply, the GOTY edition for PS3 is broken beyond belief. Avoid this at all costs, or buy it for the 360 or PC. Numerous other PS3 owners of the GOTY edition report these same problems. As stated above, the original Fallout 3 works perfectly, along with every other game and Blu-Ray movie, so it is not my PS3. Avoid this on PS3 or buy at your own risk. Me, I ordered it for PC, because there are patches which make the PC GOTY very playable and because of mods.

I never owned fallout before the GOTY, and as of right now, I havent experienced the trouble that others are reporting. I only have about 2 maybe 3 hours of gameplay in right now, so it may be too early to tell. I wonder how big the hard drives are for those having trouble.

The game is wonderful, I really cant find any complaints with it. Give me a few more weeks and I will come back and do an update.

UPDATE-----------------------------------------------------29 OCT 09

Ok. The game does freeze up, but I think I found out why.

1. sometimes I play while I'm connected to teh playstation network and in chat it will freeze if I try to send a message or something. But that is really not the game itself.

2. I found myself playing for quite awhile the other day. Lets say almost 9 hours straight. The game actually froze up on me and I cut it off, granted I played for 9 hours straight, (a lot of wasted time I know). It has frozen slightly a few times but this game is huge. I have not experienced anything like others are saying but as I keep playin I will keep yall updated. Also, I think I'm gonna delete some of the demos I have so I can have more room on my HDD.

I still give it 5 stars, because this game is excellent.

**UPDATE**

I have found out that a majority of the problems with lockups occur after you beat the game. The main game plays almost flawlessly (except for quite a few bugs here or there). Although, after you beat the game, it will start to lockup after about 45mins-1hr worth of playtime. This still sucks, but at least you can continue to play the expansions, fool around, and discover new things in the Capitol Wasteland. I highly recommend doing everything you want to do before you beat the game, and then you can avoid most of these lockups. I just hope they come up with a patch to fix the lockups, but with Fallout Vegas right around the corner, I highly doubt it. Hope this helps.

**END OF UPDATE**

This is such a painful review for me. I love this game, but I also hate it at the same time. The game itself is great. There is so much to do and explore you will lose quite a few hours of your life playing this. The story is great, and side quest are no slouch in the story department either. The character customization is pretty cool too. The freedom is astounding. There is so much freedom, it actually drives you to play the game multiple times so you can see what changes take place in the world according to your actions. It truly is awesome game play.

There is one problem though, the bugs. The bugs are so horrible, that they actually break the game. Every hour or so it will crash and the only way to fix it is to restart your PS3 system (I actually maneuvered around this for a while by holding down the PS button until I could hit circle and the game would resume like nothing happened, but this stopped working latter in the game and the game started locking up my PS3). This is not just a PS3 problem. I have been reading the troubleshooting forums and these bugs have been happening on all systems (I love the game and I own all systems so I was wanting to pick it up on a system that did not have as many bugs, unfortunately, the bugs are everywhere). Even the last mission would have been amazing if it was not for the constant skips and lockups. There are so many bugs this game is almost unplayable. It really saddens me since it is such an awesome game. If you think you can take and ungodly buggy game, then pick this up. Other than else, wait until you hear a patch get released to fix a majority of the lockups and bugs.

I love this game wholeheartedly and cant wait for the Fallout: New Vegas Collector's Edition.

I do however recommend that if you have a capable PC to buy this game for PC and download the G.E.C.K. If you like to mod for games this is a great one to mod for. There is a huge community for modders for Fallout 3 and the things you can do are seemingly limitless. For example you can...

Add new perks, have ridable mounts, have new companions, new housing options, change the animations, add an expanded arsenal of weapons and armor, wear disguises to fool different factions.

It is a must in my opinion to play this game to its fullest.

Cheers,

Billy

Amazing game, and a good bang for your buck! Each of the 5 downloadable add-ons which come included with this game normally go for around $10.00 each on the PSN. While the game itself is very fun, the PS3 versian is riddled with many annoying bugs. I have had the game completely freeze up several times (thank-god for autosave), had a few long frame hic-ups, and even had the menu/pip-boy become really bright and difficult to view randomly. Despite these occasional flaws, it is still worth a play.

I pre-ordered this game from Amazon and it arrived right on the release date! I was very happy with that.

Now, I had already been an owner of the base Fallout 3 game, and when I found out the GOTY edition was going to be released, which included all five "expansions" (Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, Mothership Zeta), I knew I had to have it! This is especially considering PS3 owners had to sit back and wait while XBOX360 owners had them available months and months ago. Each of these expansions were selling for $10 for 360 owners, but now we can have the original game ($35) plus the DLC ($50 total) for $60 (total savings of $25). Not too shabby.

People have a few concerns with loading time, crashing, and save files not carrying over. I haven't experienced any issues with crashing (my original Fallout 3 crashed once in my 30+ hours of gameplay), but perhaps I can help shed light on the other two concerns.

1.) Long load times - When I first exited my house in Megaton, the game took about 2-3 minutes to load. This is *much* longer than usual. However, this is because the new content is initializing. Instantly, Point Lookout and The Pitt showed up in my quests. Next, I fast-traveled somewhere and again the load time was 2-3 minutes. Upon arriving at my destination, the remaining three quests (Broken Steel, Point Lookout, Mothership Zeta) became available. After this, load times were back to normal. Also, there were some frame rate issues at first coupled with the game freezing for one or two seconds periodically, but this ceased after about an hour or two of playing. I attribute these issues to the new quests being available and the game syncing up with your particular save game.

2.) Save files not carrying over - This is a regional issue. In the U.S., most players are not having difficulties. However, in Canada, I'm hearing a lot about how they only have an option to start a new game in the GOTY edition. This is because they played the Canadian version of the original Fallout 3 and it appears that saves generated by certain Canadian editions of the game aren't being recognized by the GOTY Edition. This is obviously a glaring problem for Canadian players, so we can only hope that Bethesda releases a patch to address this issue.

All in all, each DLC quest will add anywhere between 3-4 hours of additional gameplay (so about 15-20 more hours total). There are also new enemies and weapons introduced. The most significant DLC is Broken Steel, which adds an additional 10 levels to achieve, 14 new perks, and 6 new achievements to unlock, and probably the largest addition to gameplay time. As for sheer enjoyment, Point Lookout and The Pitt offer great excitement due to their intricate story lines and engaging environments.

If you are a PS3 owner and Fallout 3 fan, this is the compilation that you've been waiting for! More missions, more guns, more enemies, more perks, more hours of fun! Even if you own the original copy, I would advise you to re-sell it and pick up a copy of the GOTY edition. Also, keep in mind that the issues people are having are only a patch fix away. I feel these are rare (or just misunderstood), and your gameplay experience will not suffer in the least. The 2008 game of the year just got better in 2009!

Pre-Ordered the game From Amazon got it on launch day . SO far i have already played Close to 14 hours, and haven't Even Scratched the surface of what this game has to offer.

I had already owned the Xbox360 Version when it came out last year and played a easy 100-150 hours And didnt even finish every thing the game has ! but after a while of playing i began to notice Scratches all over the disc , went online and found out The Some Xbox360s Can scratch Disc , eventually the game was no longer playable, so i decided i would go pick up a new copy since the first DLC was coming out and i was excited and Then my xbox360 Crashed , i had it there, I went and bought a Brand NEW PS3 and decided not to get Fallout 3 since the DLC Was not coming to the PlayStation 3 , Well After a While i found out Bethesda was bring the DLC too The PS3 along with a GAME of the Year edition , i was freaking Excited , But worried m i had heard all about the problems and didnt know if i should just get a new 360 or Not, Well when it came out i decided to give it a try, and so far i have experienced less Technical Difficulties on the PS3 Version then my original Xbox360 Version, Along with Faster loading, But this is not to say it doesn't have it share of troubles, Some times It will Lag , Or Freeze And Even Make my guy walk VERY slow while every thing else runs fine, would be nice if bethesda but out a patch already! but i have noticed Things Look Nicer on the PS3 version up close, But the draw distance isnt Quite as good as the 360's But that's enough comparisons

For Fans of fallout 3 that don't have the DLC already wondering if its worth the money ? Answer is YES game if worth it

For People who have never played the Game, But enjoyed Oblivion , YES get this game i also Have Oblivion Game of the year edition And thats the reason i got this game

For people who never tried Oblivion , Well Maybe not ,BUT you should At least Rent it , You don't know what your missing

Basically , This game is my ALL time Favorite Game , i loved Fallout 1&2 Was skeptical of this game originally but it was By far the most Amazing Game Experience i have ever had , funny thing is i just got Uncharted 2 and that game keeps blowing me Away And i consider it the Best Action Shooter this gen , and i still find my self playing Fallout 3 more A year old game, THATS how good this game is.

As a junior high school kid I used to watch Mad Max "The Road Warrior" at least once a week. I loved the characters and storyline and had most of the dialogue in the movie memorized. Later on I went on to play text based role playing games in the same style like Iron Crown Enterprises Cyperspace game and expansions Death Valley Free Prison. This game is like a dream come true for me. I did not buy the original so I can't compare. I'm playing fresh install of GOTY. So far I have only been playing a couple of days (maybe 24-30 hours total?) but I have not experienced any crashes or frame rate issues. Once my character got stuck after being knocked back with an explosive but that's it. So I hope Bethesda will patch any bugs before I encounter them! This game is incredibly fun and everyone should get to enjoy it. It's a real improvement and refinement of the game system in Morrowind and Oblivion.

This game was the perfect mix of FPS + RPG games. I cannot wait to play Vegas, just wish it was coming out sooner.

I was really nervous about buying this game because of all the bad reviews saying how the PS3 version was so buggy it was unplayable. Well I have not had any problems whatsoever and I absolutely love this game. It is definitely a game of the year game that is for sure. I did erase all my old data from the original Fallout 3 and created a brand new file for the GOTY edition so maybe thats why I haven't had any problems I don't know. Anyway this game has huge replay value and is a great game to own not rent. Zero buyers remorse for me so there you go.

I'll start first by saying that I am a huge fan of Fallout 3. I logged more than 100 hours over the course of about a year playing the game and I never really got tired of it. When I originally reviewed Fallout 3 I gave the game 4-out-of-5 Stars. The only major detraction I found in the original game was the ending. Thankfully Bethesda saw to revise the ending for the "GOTY" edition. So needless to say, I expected a good game to get even better.

So I decided to go ahead and purchase the "Game of the Year" retail package instead of downloading the individual episodic content. The "GOTY" edition of Fallout 3 comes with all the content released on the Playstation Network and XBox Live packed on the disc - Broken Steel, Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta.

Unfortunately for PS3 owners it seems that once again we're getting a sub-par product. Shortly after booting up the game and starting the "Broken Steel" content I encountered some terrible frame-rate issues and eventually game-ending freezes that required a reboot of the PS3. These same issues have progressively gotten worse with each new episode. Parts of Operation Anchorage are borderline unplayable. I'm dreading the next quest - The Pitt because of the same problems.

The worst part of this all is that my regular copy of Fallout 3 rarely froze. Now even when just exploring the Wasteland - not even doing anything related to the GOTY content - my game will freeze. I would say in any given hour I'm restarting my PS3 on average 2 or 3 times. Over and over.

I really can't believe that any company would stamp their name on such a poor product. Bethesda should be ashamed to have released this product as is. As others have said, until there is a patch, STAY AWAY!

This game should have won game of the year, it'll last you forever and never get old

I was very hesitant to buy this due to the negative reviews and I remember being terribly frustrated with all the bugs and glitches while playing Morrowind on my old Xbox. When I first bought the regular edition of Fallout 3, I had no idea I'd enjoy it as much as I would. I knew I just had to play the add-ons somehow, so I took the risk and bought the GOTY version, despite the negativity surrounding it. I'm glad I took the chance. The fun this game has been has so far outweighed any irritation from its problems, and I'm pretty much finished with it. As for the freezing, glitches and bugs, to be honest, I haven't had a whole lot of problems. My game does tend to "freeze" during VATS sometimes, especially outside in the Wasteland, but it doesn't stay frozen. I just have to wait a few seconds. It does the same thing while simply walking around, too. Ironically, during the bottlecap exploitation, where you buy and re-sell the same item to a trader over and over again, in order to take all their caps, has actually been better on the GOTY version. My game used to freeze all the time with the regular version while doing that. Only once did my game actually freeze permanently and I had to restart my PS3, and that was using VATS outside in the Wastes. Irritating, yes, but in my case, rare. I have noticed that some of the NPCs act a bit more bizarrely than I'm used to, like Senora Cruz running outside in the middle of a fight between radscorpions and sentry bots. Never had that happen before. So there are problems, but nothing that has really given me a headache or make me want to throw my controller down in frustration. I really have no idea why others are having so many problems with the GOTY version, but I do have an older 80gb PS3 and my hard-drive is pretty clean, I don't know if any of that would matter or not. I also made a point of buying this game brand new, just in case the older shipments had something wrong with them that Bethesda won't own up to. In the end, for me personally and in my individual experience, this game has been significantly more good than bad. I wish everyone else had better luck with it.
