Dead Space sucks you in and holds on with a gripping score, highly detailed environment and strong enemies. A tone of terror and claustrophobia is set from the game's very start when you are isolated from your team on a dark ship and then gnarly monsters show up. Without going into further detail about the story, I consider the graphics, environment, and sound A+. There are blood, bodies and other frightening effects everywhere, and a variety of startling sights and sounds continually try your nerves as you traverse the ship. You also hit zero-G areas where your character can jump from surface to surface while the camera re-orients the room to you. Instead of walking on the walls or ceiling, the walls and ceiling become the floor when you jump to them. One area that I would only give a "B" would be combat, although the "cut off their limbs" approach is very original. The game's essentially a first-person - the camera's just over your shoulder - so monsters that get close are tough to deal with. That being said, most monsters approach from sufficient distance to avoid this problem (which is in itself a minor strike against a game that's built on terror and thrills). But once you get started, you'll be much too engrossed to complain about minor gameplay shortcomings. And the story adds emotion and a sense of purpose, though it's somewhat convoluted. Overall an exciting, highly recommended game.

Dead Space is a wonderfully creepy and gory survival horror game. It reminds me a little of Dark Sector (3rd person, lots of atmospherics, lots of blood spurting), but the story seems a bit more engaging. This game supports 1080p graphics, and they do look really good on a big screen HDTV. The sound design is top notch. Weapons/tools are unique and add a fresh perspective to the whole 3rd person shooter genre. There have been several moments where I jumped out of my seat. Yes, this game will startle you. There were times when the camera got problematic, but once you get the hang of moving around it's easy to compensate. This is definitely worthy of a buy.

This is probably one of the best games i`ve ever played. The mood it sets will keep you on edge right up until the end. The enviroments look fantasic and the controls are very user friendly and are picked up quick. Playing this game was like being trapped in the best scifi/horror flick i`ve seen in the last two years. If you like games like silent hill or resident evil, this game is for you. There is enough creepiness, guns and gore to make this title one you`ll want to play over and over again. Great job by EA

The game is good, lots of shooting action with a bit of the thrill of cutting your adversary to pieces. I think this deserves a four and a half star rating. The half is only for the repetitive type play. This game would have made the 5 star mark if its venue was on a planet.

My other reviews have been in the 5 star, but now I'm beginning to shy away from it due to the numerous 5 star ratings given to games.

I would rent it first and try it out. I haven't played Bioshock, so I can't tell you if that is a 5 star. I do like the third person shooting game play of Dead Space.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid but I think these things are trying to KILL ME!!! I've done a lot of gaming but I can't remember the last time that I played a game that made my heart pound like this! I'm playing it on a Samsung 46" LCD TV, running it through the surround sound system. I only play it at night, in the dark and it completely freaks me OUT!!!!

The game is great...extremely terrifying...This is the option for any Resident Evil lovers...or any other games like that even though this game is much more qualified when it comes to terror. That's why it earned the award for best sound effects because they are truly macabre...

This is one truly amazing title. It has everything a horror game needs, and A great, deep story to follow with.

The game is constantly keeping players on the edge of their seats with thrilling moments. If you pay attention it has an amazing story, with lots of background on websites, other games, and media.

It has supplied me with personally one of the best games Ive played. I highly recommend anyone into scary adventures, considering buying this, or that is just looking for a good game to pick this up ASAP. Its probably really cheap as its slightly older, and it would be good to know the first story before the sequel comes out :)

If your playing through the first time, I recommend Trying to complete it on hard, as the lower difficulties will probably be to easy, and you might not get the full experience.

This game is definitely worth the money. It's nothing all that special but is certainly still entertaining. Playing Dead Space reminded me of Doom 3 a lot, but rest assured Dead Space is less monotonous and somewhat more fun. All in all I'm very glad I got this game.

Dead Space is like a beautifully exicuted horror movie. Remember how much you'd be squerming all over your seat, trying to cover your eyes up, but couldn't dare to take your eyes away from the screen? How each and every minuet would build suspense up higher and higher and higher til you could barly take it? Now what happens when you watch it twice, or three times, or heck, let's make it four times? Are you still scared? Probably not, and that's how Dead Space works.

Dead Space started out with all the right ingredients for a classic horror, much like a great scary movie, each room would paint a graphic, violent story, while your ears would be constantly penatrated by sounds from creeking and moaning to supensful buildups in a ship thats light so dismal you'd think it'd be a catacomb for hopes and dreams. No joke, sound, lighting and set peices are AMAZING, but once you play through a few hours, you start to notice a bad pattern. The monsters. Each and every encounter with the baddies quickly take you out of the vibe of tension and horror, manly for the reason that you know that they will always jump out of air vents. Each and every time. You'll walk into a extremly scarey room, only to know where the horror will come from. Much like a good scary that'd you've seen multiple times, you know what's gonna happen, befor it happens. This one minor fault take you out of the experince of terror very quick. Otherwise, EA would have a winner on there hands with Dead Space.

Other minor little faults would be that the monsters are just long limbs, attatched to stick bodies, once agian, a great build up to a scream, but after you see what's coming at you, it looks like a jumbled-up bag of limbs. Also, the 'necromorphs' look like a fish out of water when they die, the dead bodies the dead bodies can be kick around, like they where feather weights became very annoying to, but not to much of a problem. If I had a more percise scale on Amazon, this would earn a 7.5.

Certainly one of the best game for PS3. The best if you've loved Rama, Alien...

Just wanted to say this game is one of the best games I've played since I've played Doom. You will totally get a sense of suspense. To top it of it's storyline is fantastic. It's a must buy!!!

Dead Space is simply just an awesome Survival Horror game and anyone that is a fan of the Survival Horror genre MUST play this game. Actually, Dead Space was the first Survival Horror game that I ever bought and I think that it's a really good game for someone trying to get into the Survival Horror genre.

To take out the enemies in Dead Space effectively, you must use a system in the game that is called "Strategic Dismemberment". Basically in Dead Space, you just can't go for the typical headshot all the time and expect an instant kill, because in Dead Space, shooting an enemy in the head one time will NOT result in a Kill. In Dead Space you must target the limbs (arms and legs) of enemies to effectively take them out.

If you shoot an enemy in the head to blow his head off, usually it will result in the enemy coming towards you even faster and swinging it's arms around wildly...so in a nutshell, blowing of the heads of enemies make them faster and even more dangerous.

Also, if you take out both legs on an enemy, the enemy will still be alive and still can attack you because he'll just use his Arms to drag himself towards you and swing at you if he gets close enough. In Dead Space, try to avoid body shots as well because body shots are not really effective either.

In Dead Space, there is an abundance of Save Points, so if you die (you probably wont be dying too much in the game) you wont have to start back from a very long point before you reached the Save Station. I recommend saving the game whenever you see a Save station.

I found that Dead Space really wasn't really a hard game (I played Dead Space on my first playthrough on Medium Difficulty) and I only died a few times in the game. If you consider yourself pretty good with 3rd person shooters, I recommend that you play Dead Space on Hard Difficulty first because I really didn't get too much of a challenge from Dead Space on Medium Difficulty, however there were some parts in the game that got a little difficult on Normal Difficulty though during the last couple of chapters.

There are 13 Chapters in Dead Space and each Chapter should take you about a good Hour to complete, however, I think that a few Chapters took me a little over an Hour to complete. I completed Dead Space in a little over 16 hours. If you explore a lot in Dead Space, then I'd say that you should be able to complete Dead Space in about 14-16 hours, but if you just run through the game from point A to point B, you'll be able to finish the game quicker, however I recommend exploring because there's plenty of items to be found.

There are a couple of boss battles in Dead Space as well as parts in the game where you play in a particular area in Zero Gravity....there's even one boss battle that takes place in Zero Gravity.

There are a few puzzles in Dead Space as well, but the majority of them are rather easy to figure out, however there was just one puzzle in the game that really gave me a hard time and took me some time to figure out.

The music in the game works very well in making you feel tense and alert while playing. For anyone that's interested in the PS3 version, it does have trophies. I highly recommend playing this game with the lights out.... Dead Space, it's a game not to be missed.
