Come on EA! With a huge budget and great graphics, this game could have been so much better! The combat is easily the best part of the game...too bad you rarely get to kill stuff!!! Half the game you spend hopping around on platforms and solving idiotic puzzles. If I want to play with a puzzle I'll download a puzzle game...pushing blocks around and pulling levers is boring and time-wasting. Dying over and over because you jumped two seconds too early is also a game play mechanic back from 1993. If I wanted to play a boring platform/puzzle solving game I would go play the original Tomb Raider. DO NOT buy this game if you do not like sitting and pulling blocks around in order to solve poorly-conceived puzzles. Its definitely worth a rent for the combat, though. I love the cross-powers, its just a shame you rarely get to use them. The graphics are great as well, and the story is pretty interesting. I just wish developers would stop with the checkpoints already, especially on games like this where you fall to your death often.

the game is just awesome, this game has great graphics, and a very weird vision of dantes inferno from the creators, but i think the game becomes kinda boring after the circle of greed, all those penises and vaginas in the circle of lust, lol, weird, whats up with the creators with all those deformed vaginas hahaha, could have been much better after greed, but still a great game...

People can say all they want about it being like God of War, ya so what the fighting is but the story line is amazing if your into the whole heaven and hell thing and the graphics if you have an HD tv are amazing the depth and detail is awesome to see. I would recommend this game to anyone who likes a good story line and a lot of action and why is being like god of war a bad thing? People write stuff about it being like God of War like they created God of War and are offended.

The game play is very good (easy for GOW veterans to pick up) but the story is even better. The masterminds behind this game deserve a big pat on the back. I don't understand some of the lower ratings given to this game just because it's similar to God of War. If you don't want to run into any spoilers, than quit reading now. The levels in this game are based off of the seven deadly sins that are listed in the bible. Each boss at the end of each level portrays a deadly sin. The boss that portrays lust was the funniest and coolest to look at. Basically, after completing one level, you go onto the next and by doing so, you're digging yourself deeper into hell. If you don't own this game and you're a fan of the God of War series, than pick this game up!

"i left alone. my mind was blank. i needed time to think to get the memories from my mind. what did i see. could i belive? that what i saw that night was real and not just fantasy. just what i saw in my old dreams. were the reflections of my warped mind staring back at me. 'cause in my dreams. it's always there. the evil face that twists my mind and brings me to dispair." these immortal words of Iron Maiden from their classic THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST taken from the cd of the same name come to mind when i first played DANTE'S INFERNO. the graphics are awesome and the combat is extremely bloody. there is even nudity when Dante who is the game's hero encounters his bride to be in Hell. Dante returns from the crusades carrying the sythe if the Grim Reaperto find his father and Beatrice butchered. he then vows to save Beatrice by entering Hell itself and killing Lucifer himself. i haven't beaten the game yet but the graphics are awesome. be warned the boss battles are almost next to impossible. parents pay special attention to the fact that the game is rated Mature due to the nudity and violence. This game could have been so much better and different.

I have only one question, have you played through the Demo? If yes, then you have ruined the only surprise in the game.

If not, then at least you'll have about 10 minutes worth of fun. The game is a monotonous repeat of level after level of nothing but slashing and dashing platform game play with some puzzles. The story is nothing (and I mean nothing) to admire.

The story is explained below (SPOILER ALERT):

**** MAYBE SPOILER*****

Dante runs after his wife though the circles of hell, circle after circle slashing acquiring relics that don't do much. He being crusader who sinned and now is facing his sins.

**** END OF MAYBE SPOILER*****

These abilities or relics add nothing much (expect 10% less damage, 15% resist whatever), something you "easily" notice with a health bar and character status detail like Final Fantasy....NOT (I know, a desperate attempt at a joke. Sorry). If they were thinking of adding the RPG element to the game they made a mistake, the game is too fast and too action paced to feel these 10%-15% changes.

I thought this game would be of the sorts of Darksiders, which is a 5/5 star game, you explore this vast land acquiring new abilities that allow you to explore more land.

This is far away from God of War that I see a lot of people comparing to, Date's has nothing of the story of GoW nor does it have the exploration factor and satisfaction of acquiring new abilities that allow for totally new experience of already visited locations.

An average:

Game play: 2/5

Graphics: 4/5

Fun: 1/5

Sound +Environment: 4/5

Total Score:2.75/5

What you should do: Rent (if renting is still around)

All I can say is WOW! This game rules! A must buy for God of War fans due to the similarities of gameplay. It does seem to be a "GoW clone" which is why I like it so much. To me the controls are not as smooth as GoW but is good in its own way. The graphics are wonderful, very well done. The only complaint I have is that they put a sticker on the slip cover, I guess as a seal, that when I tried to remove it, it took some of the foil on the cover with it. Not a big problem just an annoyance. Overall a very well done hack and slash game with an awesome story that is sure to please all who experience it. I imagine it will get even better when they add the Trials of St Lucia Download. According to the video on the game it will include multiplayer, I cant wait!!

I am not a big video gamer and use my PS3 for movies and streaming. I went a year before purchasing my first game; that is to say: not a big video-game type.

Dante's Inferno PS3 did end that. The game is well balanced for someone who does not play a lot of games. There are no surprises in the game play and the puzzles are straight forward. The game does have a repetitive factor to it; yet, it is well-rounded with amazing graphics. I adjusted the image on the screen mostly to enjoy the vast amount of detail. I am playing it for the second time -- which permits to develop the remainder of your skills to "the fullest"; and upgrade the relics.

My advice is to make sure you switched the relics once they reach level 3 to not waste souls. They are upgraded through souls continuously. There is word of a successor game at the end which got me even more excited.

I also advise, after downloading the free pack, to buy the Dante costume and the one free soul pack, as well as the three-relic package they offer -- there are two and I forget which one I bought. I did read the description. Paid $4 extra but the investment was well worth it.

I bought the game on sale at a store on sale for $40 -- and don't know if I would have paid more than that. :) It's worth paying more, however, since you get the 380 MB download for free that way.

the game is great, the different circles of hell are greatly described and the hellish creatures are grotesque and the designers put great imagination developing the minions of lucifer. I personally dont like the voice of dante, the caracher lacks the power and comand and its sound like a regular guy, but combos, moves, magics, items, artifact, bosses etc are good. Lacks the HD 1080p resolution, something that needs to be improved if they plan to make a second part.

It worth the purchase

This game is very reminiscent of God of War, like every other review has said, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. A lot of times while playing this I was vaguely reminded of a God of War experience I had. Still this had some tweaks to the GOW formula. I wish some of the puzzles were thought out better, and EA didn't try to monetize the soul collecting. Overall I did enjoy it much more than I thought I would.

My major complaints are that the game is dark and is, there are no moments of brightness, Hell isn't a happy fun sunny place. I wish somehow Hell could have had a level with funky colors and ambient lighting that felt light hearted, if only briefly.

One thing I noticed after playing this game and then playing God of War III, is that the controls in this game feel chunkier. I don't know how or why, maybe Visceral went heavy on the rumble. Playing this made me want to check out Dead Space. I could see me giving these Visceral dudes a chance after that.

If you are a God of War fan then this is a game for you. And for us older fans for the most part the repeating 0 need not to be as fast as the 0 in God of War.

You speend 99% of the game desending into hell and most of the save points are well spaced.

I enjoyed the game and replaying it on a harder level, so far there are just more creatures to kill.

For 360 owners this will give you a feeling of what the God of War series is like.

Enjoy

Have ever wondered what hell might look like? Dante's Inferno offers an incredibly vivid and detailed hypothesis. The game is based on the 14th-century Italian poem by Dante Alighieri, but Dante never could have imagined a hell this visually captivating. The walls themselves crawl with the bodies of the damned, other lost souls intermitently rain from the sky burning in torturous flames. In the distance, great columns of souls can be seen marching along monolithic causeways. The air is acrid with smoke and charred flesh, pierced by screams, fitful sparks and motes of ash. Each of the nine circles is here, along with the river Acheron and Limbo, and each setting is distinctive and fiendishly impressive. Through it all Vergil is your guide, just as in the poem.

The gameplay is fluid and satisfying, with Dante boasting an array of combos with either his scythe, stolen from Death himself, or his cross that Beatrice gave to him. There are a variety of trinkets to collect - from the 30 pieces of silver received in ramsom by Judas to dozens of relics that Dante can equip to enhance his abilities.

Dante attempts to rescue his lover Beatrice from the clutches of the Damned.along the way, Dante encounters many Lost Souls from various historical and mythological points in history, the player's interaction with these characters is not merely discourse, however, as Dante holds the power to either absolve these Lost Souls of the sins which condemned them to Hell, or hand down the ultimate Punishment instead. I consider this to be a brilliant mechanic that serves to immerse the player in a very personal manner, as it tends to compel the player to actually reflect on his/her own views of sin and punishment before deciding a Lost Soul's ultimate fate. Very well-executed.

I had very high hopes for this title, but it has far exceeded even those. This game is one of the best I have ever played.Do your self a favor and BUY DANTE'S INFERNO!!

Maybe if I made a game I'd shut the hell up, but I only play them. This is an action game and nothing, nothing else. First, the game's graphics are great and the unique way of telling the story through still art, the cross on his chest, the angel that you reach at certain stop points and ask questions is really entertaining. Riding on the beasts back and playing with a beast to make him jump up walls and breathe fire seemed pretty unique also and I liked it. Fighting the bosses was fun and the way they make you fight Lucifer is pretty creative and great.

The part that drove me crazy was when I learned I seemed to be doing the same thing. I'm not complimenting Heavy Rain but I respect it trying to change gameplay a little. I don't want gameplay to change for every game I play, but let me let me fool myself a little that I'm not playing a weaker version of God of War or The Darksiders. Even though the game forces you to press more than just square, I don't feel involved with the game. This is my biggest problem. I just don't feel my character. Especially on that board where it was like the 9 stages of where I had to beat things in under a minute for a bonuse and then kill all enemies in the air at first, then kill all enemies (as enemies continue to multiply) with one single combo, then kill all enemies with magic, then keep two random placed humans in the pit of hell from being killed, and this went on like I said for 9 stages back to back.

I only wish things made more sense. You can't say "for the sins of gluttony" and label a board or section this or that, yet when I fight I am doing the same thing for "the sins of adultery." There were very few puzzles and the puzzles they did have would make me do things like push a boulder here to cover up fire, or run from one portal to bring me out on another in a world that made no sense within the game to make me feel like it mattered. I give this game a three because the graphics are far to good to get a 2 but not better than some other games. Don't get me wrong they did not short you on background detail (the images in the pools of hell, and in the prisons of people's hands and faces was tight as....tight as Dante's hell) but it's just nothing different than your average "good" game. THE OTHER REASONS FOR 3 STARS:

The other reason I give it a 3 is b/c when it comes to character and story being cohesive I just didn't feel it. I felt like they were going to make the game play similar to God of War no matter what and the character/individuality of Dante just in no way came out through gameplay. Maybe if they took the story deeper with me doing things within the story instead of being separated from what I am actually doing then I would write different things. Uncharted is good for this. Someone says something that has to be done, or that he hopes isn't done and you do it and see the consequences of your actions. Noone expects a damn game to be more than a game (although a few games have blown my mind, but when you have all types of quotes through gameplay, and titles referring to things in which make no sense to what you are actually doing then I have to think like this. I'm bout to ramble. Why didn't the game give us riddles, or more informative fights? For example, lets think like this and take this for example: If we're in hell take my mind to hell and hell's order. Let me be lied to by a demon, let me catch someone who says this the truth yet that person is known for being a liar. Do this on a section that deals with lies. When a section says lies (let it be Silent Hillish in how I have to figure something out), or when a king is announced to have killed this many people and to have set up trials for his brother's wife, why don't I as Dante have to find friends within the game that I can consider allies to set this king up (like Assassin) and then fight the imphs he has in his possession, or why don't I in stealth kill a leader that I over hear talking about his/her devilish plans and use the information I hear from him to later use as a lie to tell a minion, demon, devil in hell to get me past a gate or some barrier; and if the lie I collected is rated strong enough then I pass; if not I have to go listen to another better lie. Make me fight for information, that's how you involve a character in a game with a story like this. Let me swim, fly ride a vehicle or move very fast or control another character like a clone; I'm rambling but you know. If your audience has to be 18 to get the game then it's okay to challenge the gamer a little mentally. So for the mental aspect, the character's involvement with story, graphics not being better than 4 star games or as good, and not giving the gamer variety with character's interaction with other characters in the game or fighting style; I give it 3 stars. I'm not asking for Heavy Rain or Silent Hill or God of War but if you're copying other games anyway, why not splice a lil here and there too? Play the game it's fun don't let my harsh criticism scare ya'. I'm just saying what I thought. This game was really fun. It is an action game and I guess not a successful adventure game and definitely not a mystery game like the old Resident Evils or Silent Hill or God of War or Darksiders.

Truly a great game with a real story that greatly compares to what video games used to be about. A must buy for any console gamer.

This is a very fun first person fighter. Personally, I like these action games over first person shooter. The playability did not disappoint and as a fan of Dante's Inferno, I found the literary reference pretty cool.

The battles are very fun, and as you level up the ability to do combos just gets better. The game's environment has a very dark feel to it, but the road is linear and the challenges repetitive.

Pros: Good story, fast passed, enough cut-scenes to create a captivating story but they are also brief, there is the promise of online content and downloadable levels,

Cons: Very fast play, very linear, the good vs evil path is pretty much the same. My biggest complaint is you cannot control the camera angle, I found this an annoyance through the entire game.

I highly recommend if you are a fan of 3rd person adventure/fighting games. If not then you will likely be disappointed.

Games of a similar genre I would recommend over Dante's Inferno: Devil May Cry 4, Bayonetta
