Close your eyes and imagine it was 1941 and you been drafted in to the war...and you can imagine what this game looks like. Your in the mist of World War 2 and the war is intense. This is definitely not for the squeamish. The game is intense, with very high levels of detail and gore. There are a lot of curse words and slurs used throughout the game to give it a more real feeling of the time.
The game play is excellent, and stands up to the Call of Duty franchise level of quality. There are multiple stages in the game and some require brute force, others sneaking around buildings and sniping, while others force you into the air to shoot down boats and planes. It's a very diverse game that will have you playing for hours on end. When you beat it, you get unlock a special stage where you fight ZOMBIES!!!
The story mode can be finished in a day or two depending on how bad you want it. There are PS trophies you can earn for completing certain objectives in the game. These trophies allow you to go online and compare with your friends, and show off who has more trophies. Bragging rights if you will.
The funnest part of COD is the online mode. You can play with up to 16 players online and battle for victory in an assortment of matches. Some require you to capture the flag, hold down a fort, bomb the others building, or straight death matches. Many varieties to choose from. The plasyatation network online play is free and you will be on there for hours. Games this intense and fun do not get old fast. You will always have someone to play with you online, and chat about the strageties you are using and what not.
Activision will no doubt be releasing updates to this game to add stages online later on, which I am sure they will be charging for.
This is a great buy since it doesn't get old when there is always someone to play online. I highly recommend it. See you online in Team Deathmatch!

Ok before I get started: CoD4 is by far the best FPS game on the PS3. CoD5 in its own right does not hold a candle to it but that being said the game is well done. It provides a great amount of gameplay. The single player is a well thought out storyline. Also, can you ever be dissatisfied with being Jack Bauer in a WWII setting. While I have heard many gripes about the weapons, you have to remember where the game is taking place. CoD4 was "Modern Warfare" therefore the weapons are on today's standards of weapons, while CoD5 is World at War. Remember history class, last time the world was at war was in WWII. Make sense? The split story line is great, games are becoming more and more like movies everyday. And last but not least the Commissioner from the Dark Knight, Gary Oldman, also lends his voice. In closing, the game is well thought out and provides a significant amount of gameplay. Hope this helps in your selection.
Note : This is a rushed review. I will probably update it later on.
This is a great game. I think all that apprehension about this being a Treyarch creation was somewhat misplaced. WaW has the same photo-realistic graphics as COD4. More importantly, it has the same highly responsive weaponry like COD4 which I have had trouble finding in any other FPS and which, at least for me, made it difficult to fall in love with any other FPS out there.
I've played about an hour or so of the single player campaign and it was quite thrilling. The enemy MO is different from that in COD4. There is a lot of guerilla fighting, which adds a tense touch to the proceedings. Enemy combatants will lie hidden in the bushes and jump out at you. Sometimes they will rush right at you, screaming, with bayonets and that's kind of scary. The weapons are DS3 compatible so that's awesome, especially for the machine guns.
I played online for about a couple of hours and it was quite satisfying. The atmosphere is different from COD4 in that it is grimy and overcast, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Instead of a helicopter, there are dogs that attack you, which was irritating because I kept getting killed, until I remembered that I keep getting killed by helicopters in COD4 as well. At least with the dogs, you can kill 'em back and also get xp points in the process. There are a some huge and highly detailed maps, for example, a huge bombed out city full of crumbling ledges, walls and other ruined infrastructure to lurk behind. I had a lot of fun sniping away. Campers will definitely have a good time.
As to weapons, I miss the red dot sight from COD4 most of all, but perhaps I will learn to live without it. The frag grenades are somewhat unsatisfying because they don't sound as loud and explosive as those in COD4.
I think I'm gonna be playing this game a lot in the days to come.
I have played many a video games, and this one with its online play I can not seem to stop playing.
I give it 9 out of 10 snipper caps. Coming in second from its big brother COD Modern Warfare 10 out of 10 s.p.
This is the first game I played in the COD franchise and I instantly loved it. Online is really fun and the experience points and ranks give you something to play for. Buy this one!
Call of Duty 5 is one of the very best FPS game on PS3 , the game details is greate you will live the WW2 actions , but to be honest the best part of the game is the Nazi Zombi mini game very cool game and very funny and grate idea , i love it.
this game is highly recomended must to buy .........
COD World At War is a great game, I personally think it is a good follow up to Modern Warfare, however i still think going back to WWII is a bad move for the "Call of Duty" franchise. But again the COD isn't in any danger with this new installment. Infinity Ward (the ones dat made modern warfare) didn't do this one, Treyarch (da ones dat did COD 3) created this one but still has the same feel as Modern Warfare.
The campaign is great but not as great as Modern Warfare. There are missions that vary from running and gunning to mobile tanks, or shooting a gunnary from and airship, all in all the campaign is good and definetly beats Call of Duty 3's campaign by miles. After you beat the game there is a NAZI ZOMBIES mode where your in a house with killing all the zombies that you can before you die. This mode a fun added extra to the game and is definetly fun w/ co-cp. The multiplayer is basically da same as COD4 with barracks, challenges, class customizations, level-up rankings w/ prestige, perks etc. The only real difference is the addition of mobile vehicles such as tanks.
GAMEPLAY - the gameplay is the same, but dats not a bad thing. The controls are perfect, the enemies are pretty smart, your comrads however are not, but overall gameplay is good. 9/10
GRAPHICS - World At War uses the same graphics engine as COD4, and the lushious vegetation, smoke effects and character models are beautiful. In full HD, you can't help but appreciate the beauty of this game. The explosions are epic and the gory blood when people are killedare juicy and gruesome. haha I LOVE IT!!! 10/10
SOUND - one word...INCREDIBLE. It feels like your really at the battles of WWII. The voice actors are believable and the overall atmoshpere is great. 10/10
MULTIPLAYER - Awesome!!! if you love the multiplayer from COD4 den you'll love this. 10/10
Bascially world at war isn't a new game, but more of an expansion of some sorts from COD4, but i still think the game is great. I recommend you buy it.
I played every COD game and I love COD4 the most.
I bought this game for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 and both versions look HORRIBLE, It's COD4 with Ugly graphics, I put both copies in storage not to ever play them again.
I you get WWII itch get an excellent game " Medal of Honor - Airborne".
I f you need a good multilayer, choose between Resistance 2, Left 4 Dead, Gears 2 and Killzone 2 is coming soon.DON'T WAIST YOUR MONEY AND TIME.
GRANDSON WAS THRILLED WITH YHE GAME. HE'S A BIG FAN OF THE CALL OF DUTY GAMES AND SAYS THIS IS THE BEST OF ALL THE ONES HE'S PLAYED.
This represents an excellent addition to the COD franchise. The use of the modern warfare style with the return to WWII is a great combination. Of course the on-line play is one of, if not the greatest feature of the game. Lovers of modern warfare will not disappointed and the WWII purest will not either.
Yes, indeed the campaign is a little bit tedious, i could't finish...it's true! BUT THE ONLINE...UHUHUHUHUHU! Incredible! Awesome. Better than COD4 (wich i'm a monster. "Joao_Botafogo", i certanly already kill you more than once)!!! Back to the game...it's a must have! The #1 in my PS3!
Buy and go to online! See you there...
for a used game it's in great condition. it's also a very good game a must have to the collection of COD's
Shoot, die and keep shooting. B/W COD 4 and 5, 5 is a bit better just b/c you can distinguish b/w the enemy and your troops. Your troops btw don't die if you shoot or torch them. Overall, if you want to relieve some stress and you don't have hours to play, this is the perfect game to kill you over until Resident Evil 5 comes out. I haven't played online yet, and I'm not completely through the entire game either, but so far I can tell you that you will kill and die more times than you can remember. You will need the dual shock controller for this game. I bought this used for 49.99. I thought the price was a bit high for the game play.
Update: Bought and sold Resident Evil 5. I'm back to playing Call of Duty and Bioshock, so far my two favorites.
I have been reading all the other reviews over the past few days and some of them made me wonder if the game was worth it or it was gonna be a dud. I was really worried about the aspect ratio in the coop mode. I was worried about the online play. I was worried about the scoring system. I was worried that a game I really enjoyed, Call of Duty 4, was going to be tainted by a bad game. WoW was I ever glad to be wrong.
Let me tell you about Call of Duty: World at War.
Its realistic. Its honest. Its brutal. Its massive. Its haunting. Its chaotic. Its mind-numbingly astonishing. Its everything COD4 introduced and everything COD4 could not be. It hits home. It makes you appreciate the terror our men faced during those times. It makes you realize that war is not pretty, its evil and sick; and the landscapes, buildings and natural surroundings are just as deadly as the people that hide in them.
For those of you who have ragged on this game I think your nuts. The controls are the same. The ranking systems are similiar. The coop play is amazing. The single player story line is terrifying. The maps on multi player stay with you long after you stop playing... the belfry that you can snip from, the cat walk beside the giant water tower that you can hide on, the tanks, the bunkers, the assylum and its haunting rooms, the air field, the normady beach, the cliffsides, the jungles...
I was playing last night on one of the online maps. I was running away from this guy and I had ditched him and found a small hiding place to make a stand and ambush him. As my heart slowed and I gained my bearings I started looking around... thats when I realized I was in a room with bars on the windows and a broken wooden door not far from me. I started examining the room. I looked up and thats when my heart stopped. I saw a long set of pipes that trailed the ceiling and at the end of each set of pipes was a sprinkler or a shower head... I was in a gas chamber. I was standing inside a chamber that was recreated from images out of a WWII concentration camp.
World at War is incredible. It is beyond imagination. I am floored and I am left without anything more to say than - WoW.
Buy this game. If you loved COD4... hold onto your SixAxis controller cause your gonna be blown away.
Happy Hunting and as you play, remember those who have embraced the slumber that they will never be awakened from... who sacrificed their life so you could have the freedom to play a game like World at War.
Never Forgotten! Always Remembered!
Edit:
It is December 22nd and I am reviewing what I previously wrote and I must say that I am even more impressed with COD5 than I originally was. I went back and played COD4 the other day and I was dissapointed at the lack of colors and suspense and at how 'sandbox' the levels are. I have fun with COD4 but to be honest there is just something about COD5 that hooks me.
I must admit that I am fairly new to the COD franchise. I recall playing COD3 I believe or possibly COD Big Red One. But I was not impressed. It was fun. But no high replay value. The WWII stuff was cool but not so much. The game was cheesy and hard and I was not impressed with the COD franchise at the time. When I played COD4 I was really impressed. When I played COD5 I was hooked and I am now a believer in the COD franchise.
I do not want to spoil too much for anyone but here are some small tips. Go online and try the Co-op campaing modes with your buddies. Or rather go head to head with them in a coop competition to see who gains the most points at the end of the session. COD5 is brilliant and I do not regret a day gone by for having bought it. While you are playing look around the maps, use teamwork that you will need to achieve victory against your opponent. I have to admit that I truly enjoy all of the maps. Each map has the perfect place for every kind of player and ever kind of player class. The only problem is others know those perfect spots too but occasionally you find your sweet spot.
So. Once again. Happy hunting and I will look forward to seeing you on the battle field.
