I am rating the single player portion of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 only. I really love this game. The single player campaign is a lot of fun to play. I love playing the "Special-Ops" Mode too.
After I played the single player campaign, I notice that some of the missions are based after movies. The most obvious movie was a movie called "Red Dawn". When the Russians invade the United States in the first mission of Act 2, that mission is called "Wolverines". Well the name of the resistance fighters in the movie "Red Dawn" who fight the invading Russians are called "Wolverines". The other movie that comes to mind is the movie called "The War of the Worlds" by Steven Spielberg. There is part in the game where an American plane crashes into a nice suburban home in a United States neighborhood. That exactly what happens in the movie "The War of the Worlds". You can see that movies influenced the game developers on how to make this game. I have to admit that the single player campaign is not very long, but it is a lot of fun to play.
I am really impressed with the AI in this game. I have played every mission in this game and the enemy AI terrorists and soldiers always react differently every time I played the mission again. Even the AI dogs you fight against always react differently. One thing I liked too was how any vehicle in the game will catch on fire and then blow up like a real vehicle. It is neat to see the hoods on vehicles fly up in the air and see the tires either blow up or roll down the street and the glass shatter from the vehicle windows.
Their are so many different weapons to use in the game that it is fun just to try different weapons to use. The weapons sound really good.
The graphics are really good in this game. I like looking at my surroundings just to look at different things. In the mission called "Cliffhanger", the weather conditions changed from normal snow conditions to blizzard like conditions where you can't even see in front of you. That is impressive.
I would have to say the following four video games are so far the top video games to come out this year: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Killzone 2, Batman Arkham Asylum, and Uncharted 2 Among Thieves. One of these games will probably be voted for the "Game of the Year" award. These are all great games.
I purchased this game for my husband, I wasn't aware that there was a newer version on the market as well. I thought he'd have me resell it, but he decided to keep both and he plays this one quite often. I can't remark very much on the actually play of the game as I'm not a big FPS fan, but judging by the number of evenings it gets played in our house, I'd rank it up there with some of his favorite games, Red Dead, COD 4, etc.
I typically buy FPS games for the campaign, and rarely ever play the multi-player. The campaign is good, it's fun. Once I played the first round of multi-player in this game, I was exhilarated like no other game had done in a LONG time. Then as I realized I wasn't getting smoked by 8 year old kids that sit at home all day and that I was able to move up, earn points to get perks, unlock weapons and attachments, etc, I was in love. The game is so awesome, you can sit down and play 1 or 2 matches, or you could easily spend 2-4 hours playing non-stop. My friend and I get on in the evenings, it's a good way to stay in touch.
Excellent addition to the CoD series, the single player campaign, although relatively short (~8 hours) is very well designed, and a definite improvement over that of World at War. As for the multiplayer and co-op modes, both are a lot of fun, the only thing I would suggest is that you get a microphone.
I'll keep the review short and just get to the details. This game is really great, great gameplay, awesome story, great graphics (though i've seen better MSG4 and Uncharted 2, but one of the best if we're talking FPS), but the campaign is short. On the other hand multiplayer online is a whole new story and is wonderful and very time consuming. For any FPS and COD fans this surely a must buy, just be prepared for online cause you might get owned like me;)
ONE OF THE BEST GAMES YET! GREAT ON-LINE PLAY. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN.
Let me start off by saying I have played every call of duty, medal of honor and so on and so forth. I feel this game was very very heavily over rated. I was able to get the platinum trophy for this game in a matter of two days. The story takes only a couple of short hours to complete, and the glitching/cheating is out of control. This game I feel turned out to be a desaster in a very short amount of time. I'd rather play mag where there are more options and things to do than in this game.
Yeah sure the game has it's bugs, but I don't have many problems with it online. However the campaign is awesome and challenging and just plain fun. Recommended for those who enjoyed the first Modern Warfare.
Read some of the other reviews for an in-depth game review. I just wanted to raise one question to Infinity Ward...you had a successful game in COD4; what happened? MW2's single-player campaign is cool at times, but incredibly short and unsatisfying as a standalone component (makes no effort to even resolve the storyline, just leads right into a cliffhanger which promises another sequel). Lame. Now the online multiplayer is broken; yesterday I couldn't invite friends to play, now today I can't even get online with it at all. I hear the patch isn't due to fix the problem for another 2 days!? For such a HUGELY anticipated game release, it feels like they didn't even care to test this thing out ahead of time. How could this stuff not have been worked out in advance? I also agree with another reviewer who said the multiplayer (when it works) feels too much like a chaotic pinball machine with too many bonuses. Just keep it simple and sharp.
First of all i would like to say that Amazon release day delivery is awesome, i got it at 8am this morning which is amazing form UPS...ok now to the game, well the game is simply amazing, i played a couple missions of the single player and they were darn good and the visuals were amazing, i then moved to multiplayer and played for about 2 hours and never got bored once, there are so many unlockables and the maps are very expansive and alot of room to move around, the weapons are amazing also...your secondary weapon do sent have to be a pistol now, it can be any small weapon you want from a machine gun to a shotgun to a bazooka...overall if you need a game to play this holiday season and many months if not years after this is a must buy!!
This game is so freaking good. If you like FPS and are not offended by violence then this is the game for you.
This game is the bar that every other game measures itself against. I wish their was more team based missions and objectives that don't just award kills but actually involve using your brain, but alas..., the high speed, smooth graphics is what makes this game so great.
This game is one of the best shooter games... I would recommend to get this game 100%
This is the best FPS (First Person Shooter) that I ever played. If you are a fan of CoD4 or you just want to try this game for the first time, you are in for long hours of online entertaining. They really took care of all the details of the Multiplayer experience from the previous version. It really compensates for the short Single Player Campaign. And you also have Spec Ops Mode. In this mode you can play LAN, Split Screen or Online with another person in a co-op experience.
Hope it help you to make a wise decision...just buy it!!
Great follow-up to CODMW1. Ya, its VERY similar but if they changed it too much everyone would be whining and complaining about how its too different. So, shut up, be happy, and go kill some terrorists. That's the point of the game...right?
