I love this game! The graphics are great! Playing with the old time players who I never got to see before is so much fun! For the price, this game brings lots of fun to football!
All Pro Football 2K8 is not worth the money. You CAN NOT truly create the team of your dreams with all your favorite players on it. You only get to choose 11 total players.
As the very thorough review of this product is given by T.A. Washingmachinemouth you can read all the good and bad points. What he does not tell you is that the BAD points OUT WEIGH the GOOD like William Perry to Ernest Givens (3 to 1).
The overall play is good as are some of the concepts of players having different skills and skill sets, but not being able to edit, trade, and pick more than 11 total All Pro stars is a complete let down. 2K had the best 2005 football game out, I know because I love playing football games and owned them all, I even dropped my Madden for 2K and I expected the same quality this time around.
I KNOW NOW I WAS FOOLED BY 2K'S PAST PERFORMANCE AND REALIZED I WASTED MY MONEY BUYING THIS GAME! RENT IT BEFORE YOU BUY!!!
If your buying this game with the vision of the dreamcast version of 2K football in mind, stop now and save your money! This game has some good points but it is not worth sixty bucks, or good enought to rent. Also keep in mind that I am not a Madden lover giving 2K a bad name, but a dissapointed consumer being forced to wait until 8/14 to buy Madden as a last resort!
First thing first, judge this game for what it is not what it isn't. Clearly, this game is not Madden and it's not an NFL licensed game, however, it's a great football game. The football play is first rate and it's equally fun to play both offense and defense. I've played multiple defensive positions and they're all solid. The concept is great and it's a lot of fun to build your team from the Gold, Silver and Bronze players from the Hall of Fame. I own Madden 2008 as well, which is also a good game, however, I find myself keep coming back to All Pro Football, it's just a hell of a lot of fun to play.
This is a super fun football game with some great names from the past...It runs smoothly and the graphics are nice too and the price was SUPER...The Madden series are great but this one is alot of fun and its different and the Hall of Famers you can be are great...There really is nothing like football in the good ol' days...Have fun, I know I am ;o)
Not a bad resurrection of the original. They did a good job of fine tuning the hall of famers, but it lacks the pep that playing todays players have. It's a shame we don't have a truly great football game in this day and age.
you see i really dont play football games anymore but I really do like this one but the madden fan boys are going to rip this game a new one instead of giving a honest rating its sad 2 this is a good game so pls rent before listing to these reviews cause it will be madden people who will give 2 stars and never had played it
Good game. Bought for 10 year old boy who loves football and his ps3. Shipping was fast too. Very happy with everything.
Well, to start out, I have been a "Madden" fan since the early 90's. I am a football fan period!! With that being said. I bought this game cause i did not want another Madden game for my PS3, seeing that i have so many of them for my ps1 & ps2 systems, which i still play. I wanted something different to make the experience fresh for me on the PS3. I also did not want to pay an arm and a leg for another game, you know with gas prices being what they are and all! :) This game was an answr to my prayer! i have no other 2K games to compare it to, so i guess that helps. True enough, it only has old school players to chose from, but i don't have a problem with that seeing these are the players that i grew up watching and made me fall in love with football anyway. ok the overall graphics could be a little better, but with the HD effect, cool sideline and huddle views, oh and my favorite part of all the trash talking, it wont even bother you. as far as gameplay, same as Madden to me. It is a little hard on defense to stop the run, but you wont mind that either when you are on offense. the only reason i gave it 4 stars and not five is because it would have been nice to be able to mix the up to date rosters with the all-pros. But overall i LOVE IT!! IT is hard to put the controller down, and i have not felt like that in years about a football game. BUY IT!!! If you are a real football fan you will love it like i do!!
All Pro Football 2k8 = slightly juiced up NFL 2k5
Now I'm not saying that this game is not fun, as you can tell by my fun rating. I enjoy the game very much. 2k sports continues to put out a line of quality products and most importantly, a good football game. Being able to play with the retired legends in this game is amazing and jumping right into the fantasy draft was awesome. Everything I loved about 2k5 was here.............
With that being said....... This game is basically a souped up version of 2k5.... and I'm talking Honda Civic with three different colors of body kits souped up. The graphics are honestly not that impressive, for a next gen game I would expect more. The controls feel a little sloppy at times, especially on defense when trying to tackle some of the legendary backs or receivers in this game. Lastly, the commentary sounds completely recycled from NFL 2k5 (although, there was a rather funny discussion that went one between Peter and Dan about them never hugging).
I have enjoyed APF 2k8 so far, it's a refreshing change from Madden. The overall gameplay is fantastic, you don't run into your lineman's backs and stop, your runner adjusts and turns to get by them. The way that the players interact is PHENOMINAL!! Your running back is never down from just the slightest contact with the defense. If you have a shifty back like Barry Sanders and throw a spin move on a 300 pound linemen or linebacker, a lot of times he is gonna leave them reaching for air just like Barry DID!! On the flip side! There is also gonna be that situation tho when he gets bottled up and one guy will stand him up and here comes two linebackers to take you down for a loss. These are the kind of small things that make football games enjoyable.
To sum it up, Will APF 2k8 give Madden a run for it's money?? Probably not this year. APF 2k8 is an excellent start for the 2k series into the next gen console market, but there in lies the problem. Dated graphics and features really hold this one back from being an excellent title without the BUT after words.
No, you can't play with all of the current stars on their current teams, but with the way free agency is these days: no big deal. I wanted to get the most recent installment of Madden as 07 wasn't that great, but 60 bucks! No way! I picked this one up for like 11 bucks and the gameplay is great. Who wouldn't want to play with Steve Young, Roger Craig, and Jerry Rice! Feel free to spend the big bucks on Madden, but I guarantee the fun factor on this one is right up there.
Ok, it may not be the NFL because we all know EA and the NFL monopolized the NFL gaming competition. However, on PS3 at 1080 this game is one of the best looking sports games hands down. The play is bone crunching, hard tackles, gang tackles, interactive fans. The sidelines are brimming with all kinds of activity and when you run out of bounds into the sideline, you hit whomever/whatever is there.
Due to NFL license as mentioned above, 2K had to get creative and I think they did an excellent job and creating some really awesome looking stadiums. The only draw back for me as a single player is that the season is not on-going with the same team. Once you win the APF Championship your done and have to create a new season.
I am not much for online sports play. For the price you can pick this game up for it is worth every cent. There is not a football game out as accurate and as detailed as this game. After 20 years you think EA would get it right but Madden 09 is yet another hyped up flop. Anyone that has played the series for any amount of time can hardly disagree.
The new contender will be back breaker and the Euphoria engine. But in 2010, EA's NFL license expires. Let's hope the NFL will not renew this load of garbage and allow fair competition back into the football franchise. If not, I will continue to boycott the NFL as well.
The best feature of this game is, obviously, the players. Anyone who's been watching football for the past 20+ years will recognize many of the names available to put together a team of great and pretty good historical pro football players. This was a great idea as Madden never did more than make historical teams with "numbers only" players. Another good feature is the price point. $20 or less is a pretty cheap football game for anyone's budget. The gameplay itself is okay and is pretty much what they had with NFL 2K5 before the NFL and EA Sports cut them out of the pro football video gaming business. Overall the game is better than Madden 07 for the PS3 but I doubt that it's better than Madden 08.
Although not as feature-rich as the Madden series that I'm used to, this game has a lot to offer. The game play exceeds that of EA's Madden games, especially the more recent Madden versions. Although the details of the graphics (faces, etc) may not be as clean and realistic, the game play (which is much more important) is better. The players move more realistically, they react to hits more realistically, the physics of the game feel much more real. The fact that EA has the NFL license leaves 2K Sports stuck using some historical players and made up teams, but they do well with what they have to work with. The lack of a franchise mode keeps it from being a 5-star game. If future versions add such a mode, this game would be everything Madden is supposed to be but has lately fallen short of.
Pros:
-It has the best physics of any football since ESPN NFL 2K5, also made by the same group of people.
-Passing is hard in this game but it's meant to be that way.
-The ball travels realistically and bounces much better than other sports games.
-The players looks much more real as they move up to the line and move along the field.
-Hall of Fame Players such as John Elway and Dan Marino
Cons:
-No franchise, only a single randomized season.
-Team create menu is ok, but leaves one desiring a little more.
-Thanks to EA, No NFL
-Same Commentary from ESPN 2K5, literally changed nothin from the original.
Overall ok game but is still rebuilding to its former glory.
