I think this game is great. It reminds me of the original 'Legend of Zelda' game for the NES - wayyy back in the day. The environments looks great, the characters are funny, and the music is nice. It can be a bit repetitive, but that's the whole point because it brings back some of that old-school gaming. If you experience with the NES, then i think you'll like this game.

It took me a few hours to really get into 3D Dot Game Heroes. At first, I felt frustrated, trying to find various items and even the temples. I would just wander around, never finding anything. Once I got the hang of it, I started to have a lot of fun.

Part of the game is played above ground and part is played underground in temples. I actually find myself liking the above ground parts better than the temple parts. There are a multitude of characters to talk to and run errands for, with often funny outcomes. For instance, one mission is to give someone a "spa."

Some of the side quests are time limited, in that they have to be completed before you complete a temple. I recommend looking at a walk through just so you don't miss the side missions. I didn't realize just how much I was missing until I checked a walk through.

In both the temples and the above ground world, there are enemies to defeat. As you play, you have opportunities to upgrade your swords. You can also get new swords, some of which are funny and unique.

As you go through the game, you have to collect certain items, such as arrow, candles, or bombs to make it through the temple sections. The temple enemies tend to be more difficult than the above ground enemies and I found myself dying over and over in the same difficult rooms. This can be frustrating, since you have to start over at the beginning of the temple after each death. On the other hand, the temples aren't too difficult over all.

Another aspect of the game I like a lot is the mini-games. My favorite is "Block Defense." In "Block Defense" you have to set up stationary weaponry to defeat a swarm of roving enemies. I find myself wanting to advance in the main game just so I can play more "Block Defense."

Dot Heroes is a huge game and a good value for your money. I'm happy I bought it even though I was frustrated at first.

I love this game! Everything is made of blocks. 3D Dot Game Heroes is Zelda/Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest mix to it. But more strong to Zelda like temples, dungeons, the town and castle is more like Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest.

I thought it is cool that everything is made of block which got me to buy this game and I am so glad to bought it because there is lot of memories of Zelda series, Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest series. The text and window feels like an 8-bit feel to it.

This is recommend to everyone who were kids in 1980s and 1990s to play this games, and you will love it!

Great throwback to classic RPGs. Possesses a level of nostalgia perfect for scratching the itch of someone wishing video games were like they used to be. Must play.

i won't add what everybody else has wrote except i'm an accountant and work in a huge accounting firm. i've always had a very good self-control and a strong will power to stop any time wasting activities. but I DONT KNOW WHAT the heck happened to me with this game. i don't normally play video games. my spouse got a ps3 as a gift and i'm the one HOOKED on this game and hogging up all the t.v.

i dont like the violent, evil demon, slashing and gory type video games. the only other game i own and LOVE is Little Big Planet. when i started 3D DOT, i felt a lil ehhh... but as i discovered more, found hidden things, had to figure out this and that... it just got so addictive trying to solve all these mysteries. i'll admit to you though that i've had to cheat a couple of times and look things up in the internet cuz i'm not sure how else anybody can figure these things out. it may be i just almost never played video games my entire life but i did play zelda like 20 years ago.

so yeah, this game is soooooooo fun and so addictive. i swear i'm going to end up having performance issues because i can't seem to stop myself from playing this game.

I have just beaten the game and have started the second quest... Fantastic!!! This game is a complete Zelda rip-off, with a look that is patterned after a Link to the Past. When I say "Zelda rip-off," I mean this game is amazing in every way!! Of course, it's impossible to compare with the feel and look of the orginal games; I believe this homage was well-done and respectful of the originals.

For many years I have thought about how it would be great to start re-making some of the retro games in a retro fashion. The problem with so many re-makes is that they completely un-make the original, losing eveything that made the original fun.

I am so happy with how Atlus handled this game on such an advanced Platform. I was starting to get depressed with my PS3, and actually purchased an old super nintendo to go back to the time when games were a bit mroe simple and fun... 3d Dot Heroes has enabled me to use my PS3 again with renewed zeal and enthusiasm!

I hope they make a sequal to this, and "rip" more games off!!

I consider myself a modest fan of the Zelda series, having played every game of the series aside from the two Gameboy Color games and the CDi Zelda games. Naturally, I found myself interested in 3D Dot Game Heroes. The game takes The Legend of Zelda's dungeons and mixes it with A Link to the Past's progression. Throw some retro style beats and an odd block art direction into the blend, and you've got the basic makeup of 3D Dot Game Heroes.

There's nothing particularly bad about the game. The problem is there's nothing interesting about it either. The art style is certainly unique, but I can't help but feel the parody nature of the game makes the experience feel trivial and routine. The next most significant unique feature you'll find is you wield a sword that makes Cloud Strife's buster sword look absolutely tiny in comparison with full health. At first glance this is actually really cool, but once the novelty wears off, you're left with a mechanic that terribly upsets game balance, making the game gravitate from a cake walk to your standard game challenge. I actually feel refreshed by the combat oriented nature of this game, something I've felt missing from recent Zelda games, but the ease of maintaining full health dulls the excitement of battle.

I do believe there is still much merit to be found in the first Zelda games, but 3D Dot Game Heroes doesn't borrow its assets so much as it completely rips them off. I would not recommend this title to anyone but those desperate for a Zelda fix. For those who have never played the games 3D Dot Game Heroes references, you're best off playing the classics.

At 35 years old, I have seen my share of video systems come and go, starting with the Atari 2600. Through those years there were many fun games. Some of them awesome for their graphics (at the time anyways) others were just plain enjoyable, but there is one game that has a special place in my memories. The Legend of Zelda on the NES was the game that addicted me to video gaming like none ever has, or probably ever will again.

When I first read about this game, I got cautiously excited. It looked like my beloved Zelda (only produced in little 3D blocks.) Unfortunately, I have seen my share of disappointments and I was careful not to over react. Yes, There have been a few good games in this style over the years (Zelda for the Super NES rocked!!!), but for the most part, they all seemed to lack that special magic that I so fondly remember.

Even the new Zelda games, like Zelda Twilight Princess for the Wii, seem to be "the same" as all the other games that flood the market. Yes it was fun, but it didn't feel like Zelda to me. Perhaps nostalgia has built the original Zelda into more that it was, but in my mind that game will always be the ultimate.

I now have my copy of 3D Dot Game Heroes, and I must say, to this point, I have not been disappointed. Actually, quite the opposite, I am elated. This game reminds me so much of the orginial Zelda. All of the monsters I have run into are straight out of The Legend of Zelda (only produced in little 3D pixels). Even the first weapon I got from a dungeon was a boomerang! This game keeps bringing back old, welcome, memories.

Though I have only logged a few hours with this game so far, I must say WOW!!!! I work during the day and have three young children that want their daddy in the evenings, so I only get to play late at night after they go to bed. I will say this, I find myself very excited, even anxious, to get back to this game.

I would highly recommend this game to anyone who feels as I do about the original Legend of Zelda game.

I still hope that nintendo will make a new Zelda game in the style of the original Legend of Zelda. The New Super Mario Bros Wii, made in the style of the older Mario games, seemed to be a huge hit. Maybe Nintendo will take that que and do the same with Zelda. Until this GET THIS GAME!!!!!

Other thoughts: The huge sword you see in all the pictures bothered me at first, but give it time, it will grow on you.

Yikes, it's finally here. I've been waiting on this ever since I fell in love with the previous Atlus title Demon's Souls, and having given it some serious time since yesterday I've got an observation. This game is a fun throwback. Agree with those who say it's worth it just for the return to yesteryear, but also agree with those who say it's just a slick copy of Zelda with little new to offer. I think the disparity is in HOW developers pay homage to classic games for those of us who seek and love that "nostalgic" element. Demon's Souls was an incredible nextgen game with a throwback to the gameplay style of 8-bit games, where unforgiving levels literally drive you to the brink of insanity. That just makes success all the more sweet due to how hard you work to achieve it. I hadn't screamed and accused the computer of cheating so much since 1989, all because after I died I had to start all the way back at the beginning and that sucks (and rocks). Unfortunately, Atlus's new attempt to pay homage to classic games falls a bit flat because it's not replicating the gameplay style so much as the aesthetic and plot simplicity of a beloved set of classic games. The result, while fun, leaves you a bit empty and longing for the original. Still, it's not a full-price game, so there's that too. Overall a fun but shallow homage to (some of) the things, not all, that made classic 8bit so great.

If you love retro gaming and loved the original Legend of Zelda, you want this game, pure and simple. When I bought it, only the greatest hits games could compare in price, and this game is spending more time in my console currently than other more expensive games I've just bought, probably because I cut my teeth on 8 bit games.

Enjoying this game very much, My brother and I have been playing it and are having a great time. We have both played the original zelda and yes the game is very much like zelda. I don't think it will matter if you have or have not played zelda to enjoy the game because it's still a great game. Buy it, you won't regret it : )

Definitely a game for anyone who grew up in the NES days of gaming. For me, it's a must own.

I'll never forget the very first time I played the original Legend Of Zelda, and how cool I thought it was as a kid. That had to be almost 30 years ago! Well, times have certainly changed since then, but my taste for having fun hasn't, and "3D-DGH's" is good old fashion gaming greatness...

It's very much like the old Zelda that I remember / loved. Your major quest here is to find 6 orbs that are spread throughout the 6 various temples of Dotnia. You'll be fighting all kinds of enemies from bees, killer rabbits, bats, and temple bosses. You'll have a powerful sword, a bow, bombs, and magic among other things. While on your quest{s}, you can upgrade certain weapons, and buy things you'll need in the small surrounding cities, but buy wisely, certain quests will require certain items. All in all, "3D-DGH's" is a wonderfully created blast from the past, and if you loved the original Zelda games as much as I did back in the day, you'll have a ton of fun revisiting that classic gaming style, and playing "3D-DGH's". AWESOME GAME. FIVE STARS...

This is the most fun I've had with a console game in a LONG time. The gameplay elements are mostly zelda, but a lot of the references, menus, music, towns, and npc sort of thing is of Dragon Quest origin. If you're familiar with Dragon Quest (especially part 4), you'll find a lot of funny references here. The gameplay is classic Zelda and done very well. There are also a lot of mini games and various things to do, so check this one out for sure!
