I had purchased this game for my ps2 and hands down the best college game ever made. so when I bought my ps3 I decided to purchase the same game for the ps3 version and I am very very disappointed the ps3 version is the absolute worst game ever produced who cares for good graphics if the game sucks get it right ea or Sony. buy the ps2 version it rocks.
I should have known that 10 was not going to be any real upgrade, but still bought it. As C. Dean points out, he did not by 09. I skipped 09 as well. C. Dean is spot on. What this tells me is that I am going to have to buy PS 3 eventually, even at $400. Sony is not investing anymore real monies into its PS 2 games and eventually the PS2 will go the way of the Gamecube. In a way I feel robbed, not by the game, because it is good. I just don't want to buy anymore PS 2 games new and yet I don't like going to Game Stop. This game is fun and is good. But it is the same as 2008. Same plays, same moves etc etc etc.
My son loves the game! He has played it a lot over Christmas vacation.
I was very excited about this game being released because i LOVED 2008. I skipped buying the 2009 game because i don't see the point in getting a new one every year. So i was very excited about the rosters on this year's games. However, after the first play, i could tell that nothing has changed since 08. The game play is exactly the same, and i didn't see any new moves. I've only had the game for 36 hours, but can tell u that i was disappointed in the lack of changes/graphics. There are a few new features, and some color schemes are different, but as far as the game itself, just not a lot of differences.
I do LOVE this game. I have played the 2008 version ever since it came out, so i still enjoy this game. I gave it 4 stars because it's still a GREAT game. However, i believe that since the PS3 and 360 are the big products now, and PS2 games aren't priced as high, they seem to be neglecting this format, and it's fans, with the new games. They still market these games, without making any changes, because we still are buying them, and they don't have to invest the money in making anything different. That part sucks.
His mom said he has been playing it ever since he got it. This lead me to beleive that he like the game. Thanks so much even though it was the wrong game that I recieved but I kep it anyway.
After seeing the ridiculously high reviews given by the other reviewers, I had to give my opinion. Other than some cosmetic changes in the Dynasty mode it's about the same as last year's version. But, the rosters are a joke, some schools have 68 players while some only have 47. Why the huge difference? If you like the Dynasty mode you'll need to create a bunch of players to flesh out your rosters. The ESPN crew says the exact same things as earlier versions, with the same glitches.
Campus Legend was changed to Road To Glory. It's set up mostly like the PS3 version, you only control your player, and the CPU calls the plays (rather stupidly). Some positions (QB,DE,DT,LB's) only receive 2/3 the points they used to get in previous versions for position drills. Moving up in attribute values cost more bonus points the higher you go. Unlike the PS3 version, where you earn practice points to move you ahead of the next guy in the depth chart, you are automatically a starter in the PS2. You'd be a 72 rated QB, unrealistically starting over a 95 rated one. nonsense!! Unlike the PS3 version Erin Andrews only lends her voice behind a photo.
Overall, the graphics seem to look even more rough. EA Sports seems to have just slapped together this game, not taking any real thought or effort to really improving anything. They didn't bother to include the uniform and helmet changes at New Mexico State, or Minnesota's new on campus stadium (they still have them playing in the Metrodome). These changes were included in the PS3 version.
The change from Campus Legend to Road to Glory, and sloppier graphics are what sank this year's version in my opinion. I liked calling the plays so my player would get more involved in the game, and better stats. The PS2 version peaked in '08, and the '09 was decent. This should be the last year of the PS2 version.
I ordered this game for my 25 year old son and he plays it all the time. He is laid off from work and staying with me so he has a lot of time to play. Very lifelike graphics. He says its a great game.
Two of my grandchildren, age 9 and 15, enjoyed playing this game. Great family action game.
I will only comment on gameplay. The game can be fun, but there are times you want to put the controller through the TV. The game cheats. A lot.
For example, if you call for a play action roll out (and have the lead) the CPU blitzes a corner. When this happens, you have zero time to get rid of the ball, as it takes your QB a few seconds to fake the handoff and turnaround. Its not like I call this play a lot. But when I do, it never fails for that freakin' corner to come flyin in and make the sack.
Also, God forbid you make a play defensively on third and long. I sacked the qb on third and long and was wrung up for an unsportsman like conduct - first down. Later, in the same freaking game, I dropped a receiver short of the first down, and jokingly said, 'here it comes.' Yes, I was right, it did come, the freakin yellow flag, along with a first down! It's not like there's a celebrate button I'm jamming on after a tackle, or even a button for the coach to grab his players helmet and scream in his face. I even turned that particular penalty OFF, and no, that doesn't work. I do mainly play Pac-10 and we know how good those officials are. Maybe the game has it right. Whatever.
I would just like to say thank you to EA and Sony for continuing to release NCAA Football editions each year on the Playstation 2 for those of us who don't have buckets of cash to dump on the whole plasma LCD 'HD' experience thats being crammed down everyone's throats. Oh and look its 40 bucks instead of 60 too. Even if its the same game as 08 it's already perfect no need to change a good thing, I just want the updated rosters, I'll pay for that every year they keep putting it out. Get the feelin' there's alot of people goin into massive debt tryin to keep up with the plasma tv/PS3/PS3 game prices/Blueray DVD prices. But hey its America right, pile it on, no worries.
I, like the other reviewers, am shocked...SHOCKED! that EA isnt investing more money into games for a platform that is 9 years old and on the way out. Don't they know the PS2 has just barely sctrached the surface of what is possible?!!
And when is nintendo going to make a new game for my N64?...i feel so abandoned.
