I LOVE THIS GAME! This was the first game I got for PS2, & I haven't even wanted to return it! It has a great story line, isn't to hard or to easy, & has a huge selection of all the best planes! These planes aren't hard to control. If you think so, you shouldn't be playing video games. Top Gun has planes that are hard to control. The only reason I would give this game 4.5 stars is because it is way to short. It should be longer, in my opinion. But, since there isn't 4.5, I put 5. I know the payload (weapon capacity) is unrealistic, but hey, who would buy a game where you have 4 missles & a couple of bombs? THAT would be a hard game! I want to fly F-16's for the U.S. Air Force, so this is the perfect game for aspiring fighter pilots like me. God bless!

This is the best flight game i ever played. I love it. Most flight sim Games i played were just using one plane and firing two cannons.WELL this is great you choose planes and buy new ones plus you can buy and use differnent wepons. I Finished the game in about three days in very hard mode. To my suprise you could start over, to ADD to you airplane count without loosing your old ones. I Have to put this in my top 10 games.

Flight simulators usually are either too dull or too fake or too detailed. This game strikes a perfect balance between entertainment and realism. The unbelievably detailed graphics supply the realism, and the well-concieved controls and view modes provide the action. Every notable 3rd generation jetfighter, plus a few 4th generation like the F-22 and Su-37 are present, along with old favorites like the F-14 and F-16.
If you liked Ace Combat 2 on the PSX, you won't be able to live without this game!!

I decided to take a chance when I picked up this title but I haven't had a single regret. A lot of games fail to keep my attention for long, but this one has kept me hooked. What first drew me to this game were the beautiful graphics but after I stopped drooling over the visuals, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was a story with depth and excellent gameplay to go along. There are times where you actually feel as if you're Morbius One and as the story builds, it gives more meaning to the missions. Namco has made a true gem. I've loved fighter planes since I first watched Top Gun and this game has been able to create the same excitement I felt when I first watched the movie. Definitely check this one out!

When I first started playing Ace Combat 04, I was a little disappointed as it seemed to be just a "suped-up" of version of the earlier Ace Combat games. But as I got deeper into the missions, I found out it was much, much more. Now I'm totally hooked on it, starting my third time through the missions. Yes it's that much fun!

I can't say enough about the graphics, they are just outstanding. The control scheme is easy to master and you can be up and running in no time at all. The levels load quickly so there's not a lot of wasted time, waiting to play a level. The sound is also outstanding.

This game has varying degrees of difficulty and is beatable fairly quickly in the easy mode, but you can go through and play it on one of the harder settings and have just as much fun the second time around, especially when you use different types of aircraft and weapons.

You'll also have the option actually taking off and landing in some of the missions, including the carrier based missions. You get a chance to refuel and rearm and even switch weapons to fight different kinds of enemies. Many of the missions require you to complete land based objectives only to have objectives added that include dogfights.

This a great game, in reality I give it 4.5 stars but since that's not an option I chose 4 stars. If you love flight combat simulators, you will not be disappointed.

If you are into fighter aircraft, this game is a must have. It is much like the other Ace Combat games (which is a good thing), but the graphics are AWESOME!!! The backgrounds finally look real, and the fighters look great. There is even an inside-the-cockpit view, which is different for each fighter! The radio traffic is more varied, and more phrases are used than ever before. In addition, the in-game music is even good. Special effects like missle streams and heat exaust add to the overall visual excellence. The awesome graphics, sound, and gameplay make this as close to the real thing as possible. The missions are even logical and realistic. I can think of no drawbacks to this game. It is solid in every way.

Although the game isn't much realistic, it's a great job from Namco. In my opinion it's the best AC series game. The plot is involving, and the music is awesome (specially the last, Agnus Dei is a classic, and will please everyone those who knows the history of this song).

Ace Combat 4 is a perfect example of what video games are supposed to be. It's an arcade style fighter jet game, where you engage in dogfights, and various bombing missions in enemy territory. It also has an interesting storyline. But HERE are the details.

The Controls: VERY simple. Each action has it's own button. You fly with the analog joysticks. Target Lock, Shoot, Accelerate, and Decelerate with seperate buttons. Give yourself 5 minutes and you'll have mastered the controls. The rumble pack is especially great for this game, shaking when you hit the afterburner, or take a missle in the rear end.

Graphics: Very nice. People who don't think these are good graphics have been playing too many computer flight sim games where the graphics are borderline insane (Jetfighter 4).
This is PS2 on your TV, the graphics are smooth, and the explosions are fun to see.

Sound: Great music. It's intense. Plane sounds are top notch. Missles wizzing by your plane sound great also.

The Game: FUN. It is NOT a flight simulator. You don't have to land, take off, or fly 15 minutes to your target desination. You put the game in and there you go. Pure arcade style fighter jet fun.

Extra Info: There are 18 missions, all of which are different. You can also purchase new, better planes, and more advanced weapons as each mission passes, and you obtain more money.

If your looking for a good fun game, this is for you. If you want a complicated flight sim, look elsewhere. Enjoy!

This game has set the standard for air combat games. It is fun, challenging, and cool. I wish newer games could be like this one.

It's one of my favorite PS2 games. I've been looking for good PS2 flight sim and this one is a jewel. Controls are simple and well taught in a series of tutorials. The difficulty is ramping up very gently. In the later missions different objectives and in-flight mission updates encourage you to try different planes to complete the entire mission. The planes are quite different and picking the right one could be crucial. I doubt that any real physics simulation is involved at all but the balancing and tweaking of the plane in-game parameters is superb. Graphics is absolutely awesome. Replay feature is very nice. Jets sound is very cool. The background music was probably the only annoying thing but it could be turned off. Dialogs are quite interesting and entertaining. I heard the story is good too, but I was so obsessed with flying that skipped all of it! The game has several levels of difficulty and is easy to pick up at "very easy" one. Same missions played at more difficult levels make you apply a bit of a strategy to the way you fly and fight. More tedious stuff like landing on a carrier is skippable which is great for playing the game first time. Playing second time I enjoyed all of these extra parts. The game works very well even for short gaming sessions (being quite busy I could play only half hour a day). Bottom line: one of the best PS2 games ever.

This game has great attention to detail and is a blast to play. The graphics are good looking and realistic, the textures are superb right up to subtle weathering. The backgrounds are beautifully rendered, there are realistic clouds, snowflakes and raindrops. The overhead views of the cityscapes are like looking at satellite photos. The environments are enormous and allow for a lot of maneuvering during dogfights. The effects are realistic also.

There are plenty of planes to choose from and you collect money fast enough to move up to better planes quickly. I like the fact that you can continue from one skill level to the next carrying over planes and money. There are a few missions where one type of plane works better than another might but for the most part you're free to pick your favorite and use it all you want. I've always been a fan of the A-10 Warthog and it's fun to fly with the Maverick missles.

The game isn't extremely difficult and I was able to beat the normal mode in a few days and the hard level in a day. The hardest part was meeting some of the time limits, but once you do a mission a few times you're able to come up with a strategy to beat the time. If I have one complaint it's probably that the game is short but there is so much replayability it's not much of an issue.

The story line is a good one. The cutaway scenes are done like a story board and the art is well done. I like the point of view the story is told through. It builds suspense and slowly comes together over the whole game. It's one of the few game storylines I've really enjoyed.

This game was a great time.

Just adding my 2 cents' worth here. If you're new to the series or haven't played this before, by all means get yourself a copy and play it. You may wish to purchase it as it is fun to play again. The graphics are quite good, even when compared to Ace Combat 6. The story itself I thought was fun and I appreciated that the "enemy" was portrayed (at least one or some of them) as being honorable soldiers, even in their treatment of civilians working against them. The game has the right combination of length of mission, variety, fun, finishability (is there such a word?) and just enough frustration to keep it from being too easy. If you are brand-new, just starting the AC series, I would say to skip Air Combat (think of it as Ace Combat 1) and Ace Combat 3. Try AC-2 first. Of course, you won't go wrong by starting with AC-4. You will have more appreciation for the improvement in the game, though.

No rival ,hands down one of the best flying simulator since Top Gun Fire at will(not counting the cheeze videos of fly crew talking to you).AC4 is highly addictive the the controller are sweet and easy to get the hang of it the graphics are top notch with a decent story line.the diversity of planes you acquired as you play along gives you a brand new experience in new and previous missions ,which by the way are quite a few with a killer awesome last mission that would keep your eyes glue to the tube as tilt your whole body making you believe you are in that plane trying to survive a stars wars like run on a missile bunker.I personally enjoy it to the point adquiring s ranking in all difficulty and still when back for more.in short if you dont want spend $49.99 on the sequel get this one, believe me Mobious One will make Maverik park his plane in the hangar and make Top Gun School file for a Chapter 11
