Expectations were high when Blizzard announced that they were developing a sequel to Warcraft 2. As if that game wasn't popular enough, the last strategy game they made was the legendary Starcraft. Well, Blizzard didn't disappoint, with Warcraft 3 being one of the best in the recent batch of real-time strategy games.

Unlike Starcraft, Warcraft 3 is much more focused on battle tactics and unit control ("micro") rather than base and unit production management. The introduction of the heroes is a unique twist on RTS gameplay, with the result that Warcraft 3 doesn't really play like any other strategy game on the market.

The single-player campaign is incredibly well designed, and the hero mechanic is uniquely suited for this purpose. Blizzard starts to add tremendous variety to the missions in the expansion pack, with the result that the campaign, though lengthy, never gets monotonous. The art design and graphics are beautiful and vibrant, while keeping system requirements at a reasonable level (unlike many RTSes currently on the market).

The longevity of this product really lies in the multi-player, though. The automated matchmaking system on battle.net does a great job of matching you with players of similar skill, but there are also a tremendous number of custom made maps developed by players using the Warcraft 3 map editor ("Defense of the Ancients", or "DotA", being the most popular one). While this game is not as strategically deep as Starcraft, it is still a blast to play, and if you enjoy strategy games, you shouldn't pass up this one.

I was getting pretty worn out from playing WoW, so I decided to grab this to see how "the" world of Warcraft started. It was cool to see A LOT of familiar characters, locations, mobs, etc. It's a different game, being an RTS. Definitely not as full as others, like Command and Conquer. But, the story-telling keeps it interesting. However, I think Blizzard makes their games simple enough for anyone to pick up and play, with the enough content to keep it challenging.

If you like strategy games then this is one you should buy, takes a while to complete so your money is more than well used. If you like the warcraft series then this is a game that should be in the collection.

One of the best real-time strategy games ever! The free Defense of the Ancients (search the web for DotA-Allstars) mod also enables many additional hours of online fun.

I had played these games back in the day when they first came out. Unfortunately, I lost my copies :(. Experiencing some nostalgia, I picked up a copy from Amazon (great delivery by the way). After the installation process, the fun began. I sat through the 1st and 2nd campagin without blinking. I'm still playing and the fun still hasn't stopped. Five stars from me.

You want to buy this game because you heard your friends are addicted to it? You want to buy this game because you just tried to play it on your friend's computer and you feel like playing it again? Or you want to buy this game because you just saw how much interesting this game is? The problem is you are afraid that you would regret buying this stuff and think its a waste of money.

After you buy it, you install it on your machine, either Windows or Machintosh, you go online and play several games with other people around the world (of course you should know how to play it first), I guarantee you would forget about the money that you have saved since you were a child (actually not that expensive though), even I forgot how much I bought it!!!

I bought this game just because I used to play it on my friends' computers while I was staying in campus dormitory. We played custom games using LAN thru dormitory network. After I moved out off campus, I felt that I lost something very big in my life. At last I got it back, I got my life back! I bought this battle chest and went online and it was so fantastic! But becareful of it, you would forget to eat, sleep and call your girlfriend!!!

If you are a fan of World of WarCraft, then you simply must play this game. While the original WarCraft: Orcs and Humans, and the others that followed really did alot to set-up the entire history and world that became WoW, none of the games before this one had the true and real impact that the third installment had. - This point can be argued for multiple reasons. - Regardless of that fact, however, all of your prominant WoW figures are introduced in this game.

For the Horde: Thrall - WarChief of the Horde, Grom Hellscream (father of Garrosh Hellscream), Cairne Bloodhoof, and Sylvannas Windrunner.

For the Alliance: Jania Proudmore, Muradin Bronzebeard, Tyrande Whisperwind, Malfurion Stormrage, and Uther Lightbringer.

Other important WoW Figureheads: Illidan Stormrage, Arthas Menethil, Terenas Menethil II, Lady Vash, Kael'thas Sunstrider, Kil'jaden, Archimonde, Manaroth, Mannoroth, Ner'zhul (The Original Lich King), Kel'Thuzad, Malganis, and so many many more...

As you can see to truly appreciate the work that went into World of WarCraft, one simply must play this game and learn for yourself why this game is so important to WoW and to WarCraft in general. WCIII simply is the pinnacle of WoW Lore!!

This game never gets old, with stand-alone single battles you can do whatever you like. The campaign is fun and fairly long, keeping you interested. Many different races to play and interesting story line. This game is fun because it involves real time stradegy and RPG to upgrade main characters. Great game! Second time i bought it and i still love it.

Ok, well I bought this warcraft war chest because 24-7 World of Warcraft (minus the 8 painful hours of maintenance on Tuesdays) just isnt enough. I actually played this game years ago, before WOW came onto the scene (and from what I can tell pretty much killed the PC gaming market). It is still great fun, very smart, and if you are a WOW addict gives you some nice back story and a way to get up close and personal with the various WOW bosses. If not, it is a great blizzard RTS (real time strategy -- I think this is the category this game falls into anyway). And if you are waiting for Starcraft 2, this will entertain you during your wait (or during the 8 hours of WOW maintenance on Tuesdays!)

Great Game. Runs Great. I'm a Mac Gamer (AND XBOX360 GAMER!!! WOO!!!) so I just wanted to let everyone know it runs perfectly.

Dota is the most awesome part of this game. Single player is more engaging than starcrafts. However, melee tanks compared to starcrafts. Hence the reason why custom games such as Dota is the most played.

I wish I had gotten these games this cheap. However, if I had to wait till now to play it I would be very unhappy. I have spent many hours enjoying these games with my friends over the last year. Several years ago when I first started playing Warcraft I found the games to be far more enjoyable than many others on the market. Blizzard knows how to put the right elements in a game to give it wonderful replayability. Their games have the most replayability of any I have known. Even though Starcraft Brood War may be old by todays standards we still find it a blast to get together with a group of friends and play it online or at a LAN party. The most recent Warcraft III set is no exception. If I have any complaint, it is that Blizzard reset the ladder scores after they found a few cheaters. Those of us that got to level 30 plus on the ladder were mad. I'm sure anyone that put hours of their time getting up the ladder wasn't happy. In fact we quit doing ladder games. So Blizzard you best keep in mind punishing thousands because of a handful of cheaters makes no sense. I would still say to anyone thinking about buying it, you can have a great deal of fun just playing single player or with friends against others or computer AI. That is why we still enjoy the game and highly recommend it.
